(8) U Cant Be Serious 5/1, Rangy gelding who displayed fair form without tasting success in handful of bumper starts. Ran below that level sent hurdling after 10 months off at Exeter (16.7f, heavy) recently and may well be being brought along with handicaps in mind.
Held his own in some good bumpers last season but disappointed on his hurdling debut.

Carries a penalty but will go on improving back at a more suitable trip.

(5) Devon Dude 9/1, Dartmouth gelding who is bred to stay well but displayed enough speed to win 4-runner bumper at Chepstow (16f, heavy) in March. Fared easily best of those held up in a falsely-run race when fourth of 14 in novice at Ffos Las (20f, good) on hurdles bow 7 months ago and should improve.

12:45 Taunton Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

JACKPOT DES BORDES didn't do himself any favours with some poor jumping here last time out, but he did well to get up towards the finish and stepping up in trip looks like just what is needed for the son of Vision D'Etat. He can defy a 7lb penalty at the main expense of Katana, who is expected to improve plenty on his bumper debut at Wincanton in October for leading connections. Devon Dude and newcomer Bank On Frank may be capable of being in the shake-up as well.

JACKPOT DES BORDES got away with a drop in trip around this sharper track when scoring here last month and, with improvement on the cards back up in distance, Paul Nicholls' 5-y-o could take some stopping. He gets the vote over Katana, who showed ability amidst greenness in a Wincanton bumper a couple of months ago and warrants considerable respect now hurdling. Bank On Frank can edge out Devon Dude for third.

The most obvious answer is JACKPOT DES BORDES, who won over 2m here last month and can progress again over this longer trip.

13:15 Taunton Conditions Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

An expensive purchase from France, CLOTILDA made the perfect start to her career in Britain when comfortably making all at Huntingdon earlier in the month and she looks capable of following up under a 7lb penalty. Moutarde has strong claims on his penultimate success at Kempton, while Mill Street is another looking to overcome a penalty, following a taking success at Sedgefield in November. A relatively capable sort on the level, NH newcomer Infinity Blue could be a nice prospect for the David Pipe yard.

CLOTILDA made an immediate repayment on the €100,000 new connections forked out for her when landing a 3-runner Huntingdon juvenile and, with the second giving that form a timely boost at Kempton the other day, she should prove hard to beat. Zenato is an intriguing recruit to this sphere on the back of his Flat success in October and he is next on the list ahead of Moutarde, who will find this company more palatable compared to his latest assignment.

Paul Nicholls' filly CLOTILDA appeared to have quite a bit left in the tank when beating a next-time-out winner on her British debut.

13:45 Taunton Handicap Chase (Class 4) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A game winner at Hereford on his penultimate start, LANGLEY HUNDRED was denied a brace when touched off by an improver of Nicky Henderson's over this C&D last month. However, he did very little wrong on that occasion, finishing clear of the remainder, and can gain compensation off just a 3lb higher mark. A winner at Fontwell in November, Ri Na Cuirte has improved of late but needs another personal best after going up a further 4lb for his third-placed finish at Ascot latest. The competitively-weighted Shakeyatailfeather completes the shortlist.

A winning chase debut could be on the cards for RI NA CUIRTE, who looked an improved model over hurdles last month, striking at Fontwell prior to finishing a solid third at Ascot. The latter form has been boosted (the winner of that handicap has won again since, and the second also scored next time) and the fact that this 6-y-o was runner-up between the flags augurs well ahead of this switch to fences. The in-form Langley Hundred and likely improver Tout Sur Moi rate the main dangers.

Fourth over C&D on his recent chasing debut, TOUT SUR MOI still has potential and can make the necessary improvement today.

14:17 Taunton Maiden Hurdle (Class 1) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Listentoyourheart extended her unbeaten run over hurdles to 3-3 with a hard-fought success in a Listed event at Newbury in November. However, she picks up a 5lb penalty and might struggle to uphold the form with the third home, JUBILEE ALPHA, who is having only her second start in this discipline and should be a whole lot wiser now she has hurdles experience to draw upon. The winner of two bumpers and a couple of hurdle races, Hollygrove Cha Cha also appeals despite this being her toughest assignment yet.

JUBILEE ALPHA should have learnt plenty from her encouraging Newbury hurdles bow and may be able to turn the tables on Listentoyourheart, who carries a 5 lb penalty for that victory. Hollygrove Cha Cha is also of interest.

The vote goes to JUBILEE ALPHA, who lost significant ground at the final flight when third in a Listed race on her hurdle debut.

14:52 Taunton Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

The hat-trick seeking DESPEREAUX, whose yard won this race 12 months ago, has flourished with cheekpieces added and has a good chance of supplementing last month's C&D success, despite an 8lb higher mark. The Jane Willimas-trained gelding had plenty in hand on that occasion and looks well worth a try at this higher level. Tiny Tetley is still of low mileage and, having shown a liking for this venue, cannot be ruled out. Recent track-and-trip second Native Moon is also feared with first-time cheekpieces tried.

DESPEREAUX is unexposed as a stayer and makes plenty of appeal in his hat-trick bid having made it 2-3 here with a decisive C&D success 18 days ago. Native Moon also has a potential as a stayer and is feared most on the back of his improved second here last month, while Tiny Tetley, who found just one too good at Exeter, is another key player.

Hat-trick seeker DESPEREAUX gets the vote, ahead of solid-looking Tiny Tetley.

15:27 Taunton Handicap Chase (Class 5) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

CAERULEUM put a frustrating sequence of placed efforts firmly behind him when hosing up at Wincanton. This six-year-old may well defy an 8lb rise in his current frame of mind and go in again. School For Scandal finished a long way behind the selection in third that day when bidding for a hat-trick, but today's better ground will be more to his liking and he could feature, while Getupearly failed to fire at Exeter last time but would not be without a chance if back on song.

CAERULEUM upped his game when easily scoring at Wincanton last month and an 8 lb higher mark may not be enough to prevent the follow up. Touchwoodexpress and Unspeakable should also go well.

The pick is UNBLINKING, who went close off a 3lb higher mark in this race last year and made an encouraging reappearance this month.

16:00 Taunton Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 19f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The progressive Bread And Butter landed a hat-trick with a victory at Huntingdon last time and will likely be thereabouts once again, despite a further 6lb rise. Phoenix Risen won nicely at Wincanton recently and can also make his presence felt, but a chance is taken on TOM DONIPHON. The bumper winner was narrowly beaten in a novice hurdle at Hereford on only his second start over timber and looks the type to improve now handicapping for the first time.

PHOENIX RISEN was a ready winner at Wincanton earlier this month and remains feasibly treated on old form. He can score again. Bread And Butter and Tom Doniphon rate the principal dangers.

Topweight BREAD AND BUTTER (nap) has enjoyed a new lease of life since his wind op and is selected to extend his winning spree.
