---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st (2) (4/1 +11%) Chankaya |
4/1(+11%) | (2) Chankaya 4/1, Fair form on the Flat and runner-up twice from half-a-dozen starts over hurdles, including in a 13-runner handicap at Wincanton (19.8f). Only sixth after making mistakes on chasing bow there last time. In the mix back in this sphere. Clear second at Wincanton in November and following defeat was on his chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (3/1 +14%) Imperial Measure |
3/1(+14%) | (7) Imperial Measure 3/1, Opened his account at Newton Abbot in September and in good form after until only sixth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (19.8f, soft) 56 days ago. Sort to bounce back. Heavy-ground winner; reportedly bled when a disappointing favourite last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (25/1 -108%) Diamand De Vindecy |
25/1(-108%) | (1) Diamand De Vindecy 25/1, Fair performer on the level in France and in 3 runs over hurdles for his current yard last term. Didn't fire at Carlisle on reappearance 3 months ago and improvement is required. Remote finish on his handicap debut and stamina could be an issue over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (11/1 +8%) Getuptheyard |
11/1(+8%) | (4) Getuptheyard 11/1, Getaway gelding who has been well held in 2 bumpers/3 novice hurdles. Needs more now handicapping. Modest standard in novice events but consequently goes handicapping at a realistic level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (8/1 +33%) Mini Yeats |
8/1(+33%) | (5) Mini Yeats 8/1, Maiden hurdler who was pulled up in handicap hurdle at Leicester (20.5f, heavy) 20 days ago. Cheekpieces go on for 1st time. A 14l fourth in 2m Wincanton handicap (1m7f, heavy) before a puzzling run at Leicester. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (6/1 +50%) Irlandais |
6/1(+50%) | (12) Irlandais 6/1, Only poor form shown over hurdles (first one for Dan Skelton) to date and lots more is required from 1 lb out of the handicap. Beaten 17l into fifth on handicap debut at Wincanton and looks up against it once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (66/1 -32%) Gardons La |
66/1(-32%) | (9) Gardons La 66/1, Just a modicum of promise in 2 starts in France and has shown little for current connections, having a wind operation before refusing to race at Wincanton in December. Others appeal more. Hasn't shown much when she has consented to race (has refused); hood removed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (33/1 -32%) Dora's Addrezz |
33/1(-32%) | (11) Dora's Addrezz 33/1, Offered little tongue tied in a Newton Abbot bumper on only outing for Brian Barr and poor efforts to date over hurdles. Switch to handicaps needs to bring about improvement. Best run looks flattering and she goes handicapping with much to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (9/2 +10%) King Of The Road |
9/2(+10%) | (3) King Of The Road 9/2, Well held in Newbury bumper and in 3 runs over hurdles last month but qualified for them on the back of his most encouraging display at Taunton (16.5f, good to soft) latest when late headway into eighth. Interesting for yard among the winners. Modest achievements to date but he now goes handicapping for an in-form yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (40/1 -344%) Bruce Gobbler |
40/1(-344%) | (6) Bruce Gobbler 40/1, Last of 4 sole start in point bumpers and well beaten all 3 starts under Rules to date. Poor profile but there could be improvement lurking now raised in trip for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (22/1 -267%) Citizen Jane |
22/1(-267%) | (10) Citizen Jane 22/1, Point winner who arrives winless over hurdles but often shaped better than bare result in handful of starts for Alastair Ralph. Well worthy of note if market speaks in her favour starting out for new yard back up in trip. Has performed okay in two of her handicaps but needs more if she's to win this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) (9/1 -29%) Tribesmans Glory |
9/1(-29%) | (8) Tribesmans Glory 9/1, Fair winning chaser for Tom George in 2020. Lightly raced since but posted largely creditable efforts over hurdles this term. No forlorn hope. Disappointed last time but he's a player on his penultimate piece of form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CHANKAYA could only manage sixth on his chasing debut at Wincanton in December after making a few jumping errors, and he's expected to go much better now back over hurdles. Imperial Measure warrants respect as he goes well fresh and has underfoot conditions to suit, while winning point-to-pointer Citizen Jane is another for the shortlist on her return/debut for a new stable.
Not so competitive as the numbers suggest and KING OF THE ROAD appeals as a likely improver for the in-form Ben Pauling team now stepping into handicaps so gets the nod. Chankaya reverts to this sphere on a handy-looking mark having made mistakes on his recent chasing bow at Wincanton and is next on the list ahead of Ryan Potter's new recruit Citizen Jane.
An open race in which nothing stands out. IMPERIAL MEASURE had excuses last time and he had been running well.

1st (3) (4/1 +11%) Doyen Quest |
4/1(+11%) | (3) Doyen Quest 4/1, Made a successful bumper debut at Ffos Las in November. Hasn't quite gone on as expected but shaped better than first time up over hurdles when third in a Chepstow maiden (19.4f) last month. May do better still. The Chepstow maiden (2m3f) in which he finished third was an ordinary race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (15/2 -67%) Cornish Storm |
15/2(-67%) | (2) Cornish Storm 15/2, Fair Flat winner who seemed to excel himself when second of 17 in a maiden hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, soft) 39 days ago, running on. Player if backing that up. Modest Flat winner; ran surprisingly well to finish runner-up at Wincanton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (8/15 +21%) Golden Move |
8/15(+21%) | (12) Golden Move 8/15, Fairly useful handicapper on Flat, stays 1½m, creditable effort last time. Sold from Richard Fahey for 215,000 gns later in October and gelded. Makes obvious appeal on hurdle debut. Useful Flat handicapper who joined this yard for 215,000gns; has the Triumph entry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (16/1 -78%) Solar System |
16/1(-78%) | (7) Solar System 16/1, Showed more than when disappointing a bumper when fourth of 12 in a maiden hurdle at Worcester (16f, soft, 80/1) in May. Off since. Related to winners and can no doubt raise his game at some point. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (12/1 +0%) Cawthorne Banker |
12/1(+0%) | (1) Cawthorne Banker 12/1, Fairly useful form when placed 3 times in bumpers last term but underwhelming so far over hurdles, failing to meet expectations in a lesser race over C&D 43 days ago. Given his bumper promise it's been a surprisingly quiet start over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (150/1 +0%) Bob O Rhino |
150/1(+0%) | (10) Bob O Rhino 150/1, Winning Irish pointer but well held in bumper/completed start over hurdles. Hard to make a case on her initial hurdling efforts and hasn't looked straightforward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (200/1 -33%) Palawan Du Mazet |
200/1(-33%) | (5) Palawan Du Mazet 200/1, Little encouragement in bumpers/over hurdles. Came last in two bumpers and he's finished well behind in both his hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (9/1 +0%) Walkingoneggshells |
9/1(+0%) | (9) Walkingoneggshells 9/1, Point winner who ran to a fair level on his second outing in bumpers and did the same when finding only one too good on his 2m Taunton hurdle debut in January. However, went backwards when well held at Huntingdon since. Hood on for 1st time. Promising efforts before finishing down the field at Huntingdon; now hooded. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (66/1 -100%) The Cypriot |
66/1(-100%) | (8) The Cypriot 66/1, €58,000 3-y-o, Jukebox Jury gelding. Offered something to work on when third of 6 in a Chepstow bumper on debut in November but failed to repeat that effort in a similar event there 3 weeks ago. Makes hurdle bow. Wouldn't be the obvious answer judged on his two bumper runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (200/1 -506%) Seren Y Teigr |
200/1(-506%) | (6) Seren Y Teigr 200/1, Down the field in minor event/maidens on Flat. Makes little appeal on hurdle debut. Ordinary form in three Flat runs for this yard in 2022 (7f-1m4f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (200/1 -33%) Ilfonce |
200/1(-33%) | (4) Ilfonce 200/1, Well held both starts to date (bumper/maiden hurdle). Tailed off in an Exeter bumper and Wincanton maiden hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (250/1 -25%) What An Icon |
250/1(-25%) | (14) What An Icon 250/1, Poor maiden on Flat and no encouragement in 2 juvenile hurdles. Has had a breathing operation since last seen. Limited maiden on the Flat and it's been a quiet start over hurdles; returns from wind op. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
It's hard to look past useful Flat performer GOLDEN MOVE, who represents the in-form Paul Nicholls team and the son of Golden Horn can show his rivals the way home on his hurdling debut. Cornish Storm quickly made up for being pulled up over this C&D last month by posting an excellent second at huge odds over 1m7f at Wincanton four days later, and he merits respect with that experience under his belt. Solar System remains open to improvement after showing some encouragement on his latest outing in May last year and he could make the frame, provided he is fully tuned up for his return.
GOLDEN MOVE showed a good level of form on the Flat last summer and makes obvious appeal having been found a weak-looking race on hurdle debut. Cornish Storm and Doyen Quest can battle it out for minor honours.
Paul Nicholls has won the last two runnings of this maiden and his Triumph entry GOLDEN MOVE was quite decent on the Flat.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st (1) (9/4 +32%) Enjoy Your Life |
9/4(+32%) | (1) Enjoy Your Life 9/4, Fairly useful ex-French winning hurdler/chaser who built on his solid reappearance second at Wincanton when cosily landing a 3m Exeter handicap in November. Better than bare result the last twice (in higher-grade races) and a bold show is anticipated. Has the form to feature but not easily trusted after his last two efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/8 -15%) Airtothethrone |
11/8(-15%) | (5) Airtothethrone 11/8, Opened chase account at the second attempt over C&D last season and has performed with credit several times since, including when departing 3 out last time at Lingfield where he was going well at the time and likely to be involved in the finish. Since undergone a wind op and major chance back here. Still moving with some purpose when coming down three out at Lingfield two months ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (13/2 -18%) Lubeat Foras |
13/2(-18%) | (4) Lubeat Foras 13/2, Point/bumper winner who was third in each of his 3 starts in maiden hurdles at up to 2¾m. Hasn't shown much in handful of attempts over fences since returning from a lengthy absence in November and major improvement is needed in the jumping department. Has yet to find his form over fences (0-3) and jumping looks an issue. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/2 +30%) Mumbo Jumbo |
7/2(+30%) | (2) Mumbo Jumbo 7/2, Yet to win a race of any description and while he has a big chance judged on his effort behind Enjoy Your Life at Exeter (beaten 3½ lengths into third there and now 7 lb better off with the winner), his 2 subsequent displays have not been at all inspiring. Pulled up the last twice but he's on a competitive mark on last season's best efforts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The suspicion is that point-to-point winner LUBEAT FORAS has yet to show his true colours under Rules, despite some flashes of ability, but he has slipped to an attractive mark and, with the booking of Harry Cobden catching the eye, it may pay to side with Rebecca Curtis' charge to outrun his forecast odds. Airtothethrone showed up well for a long way before coming down three out at Lingfield most recently and, off an unchanged mark, the C&D winner can give the selection most to think about. The class-dropping Enjoy Your Life should be thereabouts at the line in these calmer waters.
With pretty significant doubts surrounding the other three, AIRTOTHETHRONE and Enjoy Your Life are the pair to concentrate on. The latter has plenty going for him eased in class here but Tim Vaughan's charge had yet to be asked for his effort when exiting at the third-last at Lingfield and, provided he is none the worse for that tumble, the 8-y-o could have the edge back at the scene of his breakthrough success last season. Mumbo Jumbo will be a threat if able to bounce back but it's a big 'if'.
Tim Vaughan's AIRTOTHETHRONE isn't on a bad mark at all and he was still going okay when coming to grief at Lingfield.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st (6) (6/5 +60%) Into The Park |
6/5(+60%) | (6) Into The Park 6/5, Plenty about him physically and is improving with experience, making all for a ready success in a big-field maiden at Newbury (16.3f, soft) last time. Further progess likely now pitched into a handicap and he's a must for the shortlist. It wasn't a strong Newbury maiden that he won but did so easily; was Cheltenham entered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/4 +0%) Inca De Lafayette |
11/4(+0%) | (7) Inca De Lafayette 11/4, Winner of 2 of his 3 starts since returning to action in October, most recently landing a 12-runner handicap here (19f, good to soft). Cobden's pick of the Nicholls-trained trio and, with a 4 lb rise fair and this drop back in trip no problem, he has to enter calculations. Not sure what happened two runs back but he's won his other two races this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (22/1 -144%) Celtic Art |
22/1(-144%) | (8) Celtic Art 22/1, Useful winner on Flat and bagged third success in this sphere when scoring at Lingfield in November. Below form both runs since, however, and needs to get back on track. Quite well handicapped but didn't look at home on the heavy ground at Wincanton last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/2 -27%) Vicki Vale |
7/2(-27%) | (5) Vicki Vale 7/2, Signed off last term by winning a C&D mares' novice and, having undergone a wind op during the summer, she has resumed this season with a series of solid efforts in handicaps, including when 2 lengths third to Inca de Lafayette here (19f, good to soft) last time. 2 lb better off with the winner now. Dual winner; placed in all her handicaps and coming back to 2m looks the right move. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (11/1 -83%) Lallygag |
11/1(-83%) | (2) Lallygag 11/1, Brother to very smart chaser Lalor and proved a useful novice hurdler last season, winning on 3 occasions. No real surprise that he swiftly returns to this sphere following a couple of low-key displays over fences and while Harry Cobden prefers Inca De Lafayette, he's not discounted. Not looked happy over fences the last twice; returns to hurdling on a realistic mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (40/1 -82%) Current Mood |
40/1(-82%) | (9) Current Mood 40/1, Three-time winner over hurdles during 2021/22 campaign and entitled to come on for her spin at Chepstow 3 weeks ago when returning from a 13-month absence. Still, others make more appeal. Needed to shape better on her return to be strongly considered for this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (25/1 -79%) Wild Max |
25/1(-79%) | (1) Wild Max 25/1, Fairly useful hurdler who developed into a better chaser in 2022. Hasn't been seen for 19 months but he's potentially well treated on his return to hurdles, so it'll be interesting to see how he fares in the betting, particularly in relation to stablemates Lallygag and Inca De Lafayette. Prolific winner who has had a long time out; makes sense to heed market signals. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (50/1 -178%) Wolf Prince |
50/1(-178%) | (3) Wolf Prince 50/1, Acquitted himself well in a couple of outings for Fergal O'Brien in 2022 but finished out with the washing when returning from a 17-month absence at Doncaster. Others look safer. Quiet run after a layoff and this a tough race in which to turn things around. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (100/1 -456%) Now Or Never |
100/1(-456%) | (4) Now Or Never 100/1, Fair form over hurdles in France and made the frame both starts over fences on the other side of the Channel, too. However, shaped as if amiss with usual tongue strap omitted (again absent here) on British debut at Newbury and he's opposable on the back of that. A winner in France but was weak in the betting on British debut and pulled up. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
INTO THE PARK was an impressive winner of a maiden hurdle over 2m at Newbury last month and that performance suggests an opening mark of 120 may underestimate him on his handicap bow. Inca De Lafayette is an obvious threat to the selection, having won two of his last three starts, while Vicki Vale and Wild Max are others to consider.
There should be plenty more to come from INTO THE PARK, who did the job well when opening his account in a Newbury maiden and he has been handed what appears to be a fair mark for this handicap debut. It would be no surprise to see Vicki Vale turn the tables on Inca de Lafayette back down in trip here and she is feared most, while Lallygag is actually the most appealing of the Paul Nicholls-trained trio and is next on the list.
The unexposed INTO THE PARK (nap) brings significant potential into his handicap debut after dotting up at Newbury.

1st (9) (7/2 -100%) Macklin |
7/2(-100%) | (9) Macklin 7/2, Chase winner in France in 2020. Won 4 of his 6 starts in points for this yard last year and interesting recruit to hunters. Has been paying his way in points, winning four of his last five. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/1 +29%) Lieutenant Rocco |
5/1(+29%) | (3) Lieutenant Rocco 5/1, Useful on his day but unpredictable and arrives on the back of a tame display in a handicap chase at Wincanton on Boxing Day. Might make more of an impact in this less intense scenario. Formerly smart and still useful last season; recent hunter chase debut was very laboured. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (9/1 -50%) My Reprieve |
9/1(-50%) | (5) My Reprieve 9/1, Chase winner in France last summer. Runner-up in a point last month ahead of this hunter debut. Beaten by a talented ex-Paul Nicholls horse on debut for this yard in a recent 3m point. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (2/1 -100%) Lalor |
2/1(-100%) | (2) Lalor 2/1, Smart chaser earlier in his career. Off 2 months, shaped as if retaining a good chunk of that ability when second in a Wincanton hunter 19 days ago. Can go one better now. Former quality handicapper; encouraging 2nd on hunter chase debut after an absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (33/1 +18%) Haven't Time |
33/1(+18%) | (8) Haven't Time 33/1, Winning pointer who was in process of running well when falling in hunter chase at Ludlow on Rules debut in January 2022. No encouragement over hurdles for Kerry Lee last season, though. Off since last April but possibilities if as good as he was; run well in a hunter chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (5/1 +58%) Singapore Saga |
5/1(+58%) | (11) Singapore Saga 5/1, Irresolute performer but she did win an Exeter hunter last March. Pulled up at Stratford when last seen under Rules in June but has a win and a third to her name in points this winter. Capable mare on her day but heavy ground has looked an issue in the past; wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (66/1 -136%) Say About It |
66/1(-136%) | (4) Say About It 66/1, Won a small-field Stratford hunter in May 2022 but pulled up there when next seen under Rules 12 months later. Fit from a point second last month but has plenty to find on form with some of these rivals. Has won over regulation fences but he's down the pecking order here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (200/1 -300%) Broadclyst |
200/1(-300%) | (6) Broadclyst 200/1, Temperamental sort. Pulled up in a Newton Abbot hunter last May and fell in a point on his reappearance last month. Easy to look elsewhere. Has won his share of points but was beaten when falling in the latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (15/2 +0%) Drop Flight |
15/2(+0%) | (7) Drop Flight 15/2, Fairly useful ex-French chaser who was placed on all 4 completed starts in hunter chases for this yard at the beginning of 2023. No impact in 2 chases for Noel Williams this winter but can fare better back in a hunter. Three times a runner-up in hunter chases last year and ran to a respectable level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (150/1 -200%) Rewritetherules |
150/1(-200%) | (10) Rewritetherules 150/1, Multiple point winner and posted his best effort under Rules for a while when third in Stratford hunter (17f, good) last summer. Disappointed on Warwick return last month, though. A declining force last year and he was pulled up at Warwick; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Plenty of promise could be taken from LALOR's second at Wincanton at the beginning of the month, given that was his first start in 670 days, and the veteran could be hard to beat with the benefit of that outing. Lieutenant Rocco has to be of interest now switched to this sphere, while multiple point-to-point winner Macklin also makes the shortlist.
The talented LALOR made a sound start to his hunter career when second at Wincanton recently and is the one to beat. Macklin won a chase in France earlier in his career and was prolific in points for Will Biddick last year so he's second choice ahead of Drop Flight.
Will Biddick's MACKLIN has been showing enough in points to believe he can make his presence felt.

1st (1) (8/15 +27%) Lady Balko |
8/15(+27%) | (1) Lady Balko 8/15, Improved since handicapping, winning by 14 lengths at Hereford last week. The step up to 3m shouldn't inconvenience her and she's the one to beat under a penalty. Bolted up last week at Hereford and tough to beat under a penalty if in the same form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/2 +8%) Ginderella |
11/2(+8%) | (4) Ginderella 11/2, Maiden hurdler but her runner-up efforts at Wincanton and Uttoxeter this winter suggest she can put that right at some point. Latest Uttoxeter conqueror seems to be improving and this mare has a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (5/1 +0%) Cooleenymore |
5/1(+0%) | (2) Cooleenymore 5/1, Has made the frame in all 4 handicaps, on the latest finishing second of 8 over 20.5f at Leicester (heavy). Has cheekpieces added for the first time here. This mark looks challenging but she should give her running. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (16/1 -78%) Sindabella |
16/1(-78%) | (5) Sindabella 16/1, Back to winning ways at Exeter (18.5f) in December. Creditable fourth there next time but needs to shrug off a poor run at Leicester since. Exeter winner in December; below par latest and heavy ground perhaps not ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (14/1 -115%) Bridget Mary |
14/1(-115%) | (3) Bridget Mary 14/1, £75,000 buy after winning a point. Beaten a long way in maiden/novice hurdles but she's one who could come into her own now handicapping. The booking of Harry Cobden catches the eye. An Irish point winner who is entitled to raise her game now handicapping off a modest mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
It is very hard to oppose LADY BALKO, who bolted up by 19 lengths over an extended 2m5f at Hereford last week and only has to carry a 7lb penalty here. Ginderella filled the runner-up spot at Uttoxeter on her most recent outing and could do so once again if the selection runs to form. Cooleenymore remains a maiden but is more than capable of picking up some minor money.
If LADY BALKO is in the same form as when successful at Hereford last week she should be up to defying a penalty. Bridget Mary appeals as a possible improver in handicaps and might be the one to follow David Pipe's charge home.
Ginderella can chase home LADY BALKO who is hard to oppose under a penalty after winning so easily last week at Hereford.
Ths is the racecard key.
