1st (7) (14/1 -100%) Al Suil Eile |
14/1(-100%) | (7) Al Suil Eile 14/1, Course winner. After 10 months off, shaped as if retaining ability when fifth of 12 in handicap (28/1) at this course (7.1f) 2 weeks ago, left poorly placed. Could take a step forward from that. Kept on well for fifth over 7f here a fortnight ago, after a break; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/5 +80%) King Of York |
6/5(+80%) | (2) King Of York 6/5, Remains a maiden after 18 Flat runs, but again ran respectably when fourth of 12 in handicap (8/1) at this C&D a week ago. Could be thereabouts from his career-low mark. Ran well from the front when fourth over C&D last week but is now 0-18. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (4/1 +0%) Revoquable |
4/1(+0%) | (9) Revoquable 4/1, C&D winner. Successful at Newcastle in October and soon left behind a lesser effort when ¾-length second of 12 to Equiami in handicap at this C&D (12/1) 22 days ago, faring best of those ridden prominently. Major player. Does not have much margin for error off this mark but was second over C&D this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (16/1 +0%) Back From Dubai |
16/1(+0%) | (5) Back From Dubai 16/1, Three-time C&D winner. Successful at Beverley in June but not in the same form since, twelfth of 13 in handicap (25/1) at this course (7.1f) when last seen in September. Others preferred. Runs this track very well but was out of form when last seen in late summer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (14/1 -17%) Captain Corelli |
14/1(-17%) | (6) Captain Corelli 14/1, Below his best this year but better signs on his last 2 starts, no extra only late on when sixth of 11 in handicap (14/1) at Newcastle (7.1f) 45 days ago. Has eased further in the weights but more needed to take advantage. Just a respectable sixth over 7f last month but today's longer trip suts him better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (25/1 -456%) Mr Strutter |
25/1(-456%) | (3) Mr Strutter 25/1, Course winner. Back to form when winning 11-runner handicap (11/1) at Catterick (7f, heavy) 59 days ago, suited by way race developed. Task is to back that up now. Good winner on heavy turf in October but 6lb rise might leave this veteran vulnerable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (22/1 -214%) Sienna Breeze |
22/1(-214%) | (1) Sienna Breeze 22/1, Twelve runs since her sole success back in 2021. Creditable efforts on her last 2 starts, fifth of 9 in handicap (15/2) at Chelmsford City (7f) 22 days ago. Can give her running once more. Comes here after two good efforts at Chelmsford (1m/7f) but is not one to rely upon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (11/2 +31%) Kodi Noir |
11/2(+31%) | (10) Kodi Noir 11/2, Produced his best work once the race was over when fifth of 10 in handicap (8/1) at this course (7.1f) 2 weeks ago, nearest finish. Back down to his last winning mark so he's capable if on a going day. Generally very consistent in second half of this year, and won off this mark in September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (10/1 -186%) Equiami |
10/1(-186%) | (11) Equiami 10/1, Back to best when winning 12-runner handicap (13/2) at this C&D 22 days ago by ¾ length from Revoquable, helped by being held up in strongly-run race. Respected as he bids for a third success at this venue. Came from off the pace for C&D win this month; effectively 6lb higher today, though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (50/1 -52%) Lucky Protector |
50/1(-52%) | (4) Lucky Protector 50/1, After 4 months off and in first-time hood, finished well held when last of 14 in handicap (80/1) at Chelmsford City (10f) 22 days ago. Has work to do as he makes his tapeta debut. Raced too freely and was always behind when 80-1 for recent handicap debut (1m2f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (40/1 +0%) My Boy Benji |
40/1(+0%) | (8) My Boy Benji 40/1, Making all-weather/handicap debut, fared no better when seventh in 10-runner event at this course (11.1f, 20/1) in August. Improvement required as he drops back down in trip after a break. Soundly beaten on handicap debut here (1m3f) in August but remains very unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (200/1 -100%) Straitouttacompton |
200/1(-100%) | (12) Straitouttacompton 200/1, Four-time C&D winner. Has been struggling for form, pulling hard when last of 6 in claiming hurdle at Huntingdon (15.8f, good to soft, 200/1) 54 days ago. Best watched back on the level. Struggles to get competitive nowadays and can't be recommended. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Equiami looks interesting sitting low in the weights as the three-year-old arrives after a win last time out over course and distance - his second from two starts for a 100% strike rate. That said, he is worse off at the weights with REVOQUABLE, who was a half-length behind him earlier in the month, and has perhaps the better of the draw here as well. Mr Strutter also makes the shortlist after an easy win at Catterick, but his all-weather strike rate isn't as good as it is on the turf.
Refitted with a tongue strap, REVOQUABLE bounced back to form when runner-up at this C&D last time, faring best of those ridden close up, so he can build on that to gain a third win of the year. He is taken to reverse the form with Equiami from when the pair met here 22 days ago, with Al Suil Eile completing the shortlist.
The answer might be CAPTAIN CORELLI, who didn't run badly over 7f last month and now returns to his optimum trip on a workable mark.

1st (4) (6/1 -33%) David's Diva |
6/1(-33%) | (4) David's Diva 6/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 6/1, creditable sixth of 12 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW) 24 days ago, nearest finish. Remains low mileage and she may yet improve. Continues to show ability; remains open to progress at this level; second handicap attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (11/1 -10%) Daafy |
11/1(-10%) | (8) Daafy 11/1, Four-time course winner. Sixteen runs since last win in 2022. Possibly still needed run when seventh of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f, 20/1) 18 days ago. Should make more impact returned to this track. On a 16-race losing sequence but the return to Southwell is a plus; all wins here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (10/3 +17%) Camacho Star |
10/3(+17%) | (5) Camacho Star 10/3, 3 wins from 10 runs this year. First outing since breathing operation, won 12-runner handicap (13/2) at this course (7.1f) 14 days ago, driven out. Leading player from 4 lb higher mark. Had wind surgery prior to his 7f success here two weeks ago; stays 1m; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (5/1 +29%) Locked N' Loaded |
5/1(+29%) | (3) Locked N' Loaded 5/1, Fifteen runs since last win in 2022. Seventh of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 18/1) 19 days ago. Well treated if back to best. Went close at this course in March; interesting off 4lb lower back here; drops in class. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (17/2 -42%) Rose Light |
17/2(-42%) | (6) Rose Light 17/2, Another respectable effort when sixth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 24 days ago. Mark has edged down further and she's respected again. Still a maiden but looks well handicapped on peak efforts; third start for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (10/1 -25%) Martin's Brig |
10/1(-25%) | (9) Martin's Brig 10/1, Course winner. Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. Respectable fourth of 12 in handicap (3/1) at this C&D 22 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Needs a couple of these to falter. Has done all his winning at 7f but ran respectably over C&D three weeks ago; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (8/1 -14%) Amaysmont |
8/1(-14%) | (1) Amaysmont 8/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. Failed to land gamble when fifth of 12 in handicap (10/3) at Newcastle (7.1f) 20 days ago. Attractively weighted but needs to step up on recent efforts. Fairly useful on his day but was a disappointing favourite dropped to this grade last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (25/1 -56%) Miss Britain |
25/1(-56%) | (2) Miss Britain 25/1, C&D winner. 25/1, fourth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) 20 days ago, suited by way race developed. Can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals. Has become well treated; shaped encouragingly on latest start; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (40/1 -60%) Nine Elms |
40/1(-60%) | (7) Nine Elms 40/1, C&D winner. Last of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 16/1) 13 days ago. Can't be fancied on recent showings. Needs to rebound in a big way, having failed to beat a rival the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (7/1 +0%) Big Narstie |
7/1(+0%) | (10) Big Narstie 7/1, Temperamental sort. Course winner. 16/1, sixth of 12 in handicap at this C&D 22 days ago. Others make greater appeal. Ran quite encouragingly over C&D last time; defied a 15lb higher mark here in February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (17/2 +15%) Maurices Men |
17/2(+15%) | (11) Maurices Men 17/2, Lightly-raced maiden. 33/1, showed more when fourth of 11 on handicap debut at Chelmsford City (7f) 22 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Frame claims again. Signs of improvement at Chelmsford (handicap debut) three weeks ago; still unexposed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
CAMACHO STAR seemed to show the benefits of a wind operation when winning here over seven furlongs earlier in the month, despite failing to get a clear run, and as he can be expected to improve for that run, an added 4lb may not stop him doubling up. Trainer Mick Appleby won this last year and he has Big Narstie in here and as the five-year-old has won off 15lb higher he cannot be ignored for the places, leaving the consistent Martin's Brig to chase them home.
CAMACHO STAR underwent a breathing operation prior to winning here a fortnight ago and Kevin Ryan's 3-y-o looks capable of following up. Rose Light has edged down the weights without having lost her form and can get involved, with Maurices Men also considered after a more encouraging handicap debut last time.
The shortlist comprises the 3yos CAMACHO STAR, David's Diva and Maurices Men in that order of preference.

1st (2) (13/8 +35%) Leap Day |
13/8(+35%) | (2) Leap Day 13/8, 33/1, bounced back to best making a belated handicap debut when third of 12 at Newcastle (7.1f) 3 weeks ago. Respected. Ran right up to his best when 3rd in a 7f handicap this month; should stay 1m; e-w claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 +20%) Gold Aura |
2/1(+20%) | (3) Gold Aura 2/1, 6/5 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, proved a let-down after 3 months off on first outing since leaving Richard Hannon (sold 25,000 gns) when third of 9 in maiden at Chelmsford City (10f) 22 days ago, wanting to lug right throughout. Makes tapeta debut. Worth another chance. Looked a tricky ride on stable debut latest; better than that and she's a solid candidate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (9/1 +0%) Rocklyn |
9/1(+0%) | (5) Rocklyn 9/1, Shaped quite well under a considerate ride from a poor position when fifth of 11 in maiden at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 33/1) on debut 25 days ago. Should improve. Couldn't threaten on 7f debut but did shape with some promise; open to plenty of progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (22/1 -144%) Catrake Force |
22/1(-144%) | (8) Catrake Force 22/1, Showed plenty to work on when runner-up at Wolverhampton on debut but finished last of 9 in maiden at Chelmsford City (10f, 6/1) next time. Down in trip. Promising second on debut; less good at Chelmsford since; each-way claims down to 1m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (13/2 +7%) Thelastwinterarrow |
13/2(+7%) | (6) Thelastwinterarrow 13/2, Aclaim filly. Half-sister to 6f-7f winner Robbie Roo Roo and 1m winner Hungry Heidi. Dam 2-y-o 7f winner who stayed 1¼m. Half-sister to two minor winners out of a 7f 2yo winner; check betting on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (5/1 -82%) On The Cards |
5/1(-82%) | (1) On The Cards 5/1, 9/2, improved from debut when second of 6 in minor event at Lingfield (8f, AW) 34 days ago, headed near line. In the mix again. Made a red-hot favourite work hard last time but not sure that's the most reliable form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (40/1 -264%) Pelissanne |
40/1(-264%) | (4) Pelissanne 40/1, 13/2, held back by inexperience when last of 4 in minor event at Newcastle (8f) on debut 8 weeks ago, very slowly away. In need of the experience when last of 4 on last month's debut (1m, Tapeta); can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (125/1 -525%) Teah |
125/1(-525%) | (7) Teah 125/1, 33/1, showed more than first time up when sixth of 12 in minor event at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 9 weeks ago. Still has something to learn. Modest form in two runs over shorter this autumn, including Tapeta; needs plenty more. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
On The Cards seems sure to prove popular after his head second over this trip at Lingfield, but he does have to give 7lb to the filly, CATRAKE FORCE, who will make sure he doesn't get his own way on the front end. Second on her debut, she tried to make all at Chelmsford before weakening late on over two furlongs further, but may last home back in distance. Gold Aura is another to consider.
GOLD AURA was disappointing on first outing for this yard at Chelmsford earlier this month but she may have just needed the run so Jack Jones' filly is fancied to belatedly open her account at the expense of Leap Day, who bounced back to best making a belated handicap debut at Newcastle 3 weeks ago and would be a major threat with a repeat effort. On The Cards and Rocklyn can fight out third spot.
Rocklyn looks a likely improver but GOLD AURA is given another chance on her second run for new connections.

1st (9) (28/1 +15%) Good Morning Alex |
28/1(+15%) | (9) Good Morning Alex 28/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Blinkered for 1st time, modest fifth of 10 in nursery (25/1) at Newcastle (6f) 88 days ago, slowly away. Significantly up in trip. Has the worst chance on bare figures upped in distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (9/2 +0%) Jazzy Angel |
9/2(+0%) | (5) Jazzy Angel 9/2, Lightly-raced sort. Career best when winning 11-runner nursery (17/2) at this C&D 17 days ago by neck from Finn Ironside. Up 2 lb but she's well in the mix. Off the mark in similar event over C&D 17 days ago on handicap debut; warrants respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (2/1 +43%) Glistening Nights |
2/1(+43%) | (2) Glistening Nights 2/1, Good second of 8 in nursery at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 18/5) 7 days ago. Very much one to consider. Ran well in higher grade at Wolverhampton last week; holds major claims off same mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (10/3 +0%) Likeashadow |
10/3(+0%) | (4) Likeashadow 10/3, Latest win at Newcastle in November. 9/4, unlucky fourth of 11 to Jazzy Angel in nursery at this C&D 17 days ago, short of room 1f out. Expected to be bang there off the same mark. Ties in closely with Jazzy Angel and Finn Ironside on C&D running last time; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (6/1 -80%) Green Sigma |
6/1(-80%) | (1) Green Sigma 6/1, 12/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, respectable fourth of 12 in nursery at Lingfield (7f, AW) 23 days ago. Enters calculations. Has performed well in a couple of 7f handicaps since wearing cheekpieces; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (5/1 +17%) Finn Ironside |
5/1(+17%) | (3) Finn Ironside 5/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Very good neck second of 11 to Jazzy Angel in nursery at this C&D (11/1) 17 days ago, running on. Can give another good account. Neck second to Jazzy Angel over C&D 17 days ago, showing improvement; fighting chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (66/1 -32%) Indication Court |
66/1(-32%) | (8) Indication Court 66/1, Reluctant individual. Blinkered for 1st time, last of 11 in nursery at this course (6.1f, 50/1) 35 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Something to find on form. Has totally failed to build on debut effort; change of headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (18/1 -80%) Polly The Rocket |
18/1(-80%) | (7) Polly The Rocket 18/1, Creditable third of 11 in nursery (11/1) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 34 days ago. One for the shortlist. Ties in with Green Sigma on Wolverhampton form last month; place possibilities. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Green Sigma (second) improved with cheekpieces applied in her last two starts and the daughter of Havana Gold could find another gear now she steps up in trip. However, POLLY THE ROCKET (third) is equally open to progression over this distance and, given she is 3lb better of with the rival based on their encounter at Wolverhampton, Craig Lidster's filly could offer some value in a tight race to call. Any support of the selection's stablemates Finn Ironside and Indication Court should also be taken seriously.
Plenty are in with a shout. LIKEASHADOW didn't enjoy the rub of the green when fourth to Jazzy Angel over C&D last time and can gain compensation off an unchanged mark. Harry Eustace's filly rates the main threat despite taking a 2 lb rise for that victory, with in-form pair Glistening Nights and Finn Ironside also in the picture.
Back down in trip/grade, GLISTENING NIGHTS gets the vote. Green Sigma is second choice.

1st (7) (7/1 +22%) Oneforthegutter |
7/1(+22%) | (7) Oneforthegutter 7/1, 12/1, creditable third of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 20 days ago, well positioned. Needs to find some improvement in order to emerge on top here. Conditions shouldn't faze him; running well in defeat of late; more needed to win though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (10/3 -33%) Heathen |
10/3(-33%) | (11) Heathen 10/3, Career best when winning 9-runner handicap at this course (12.1f. 9/4) on debut for new yard 17 days ago, easily. 6 lb rise fair enough and he's of strong interest, despite facing stronger competition this time. Easy C&D winner on this month's stable debut; back up 6lb in better race but still feared. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/2 +40%) Graphite |
9/2(+40%) | (6) Graphite 9/2, Creditable second of 7 in handicap (17/2) at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 20 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Remains on a workable mark up 1 lb and this 9-y-o should have a part to play. Runner-up on his last two starts, both 1m4f AW handicaps; more needed to win here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (15/2 +53%) Postmark |
15/2(+53%) | (9) Postmark 15/2, Cheekpieces on for 1st time in this code, good third of 6 in handicap (22/1) at Chelmsford City (10f) 15 days ago. Back up in trip and vulnerable from a win point of view. Latest 3rd wasn't a bad run but he'll need more if he is to defy the same mark today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/1 -175%) Zealandia |
11/1(-175%) | (5) Zealandia 11/1, Latest win at Goodwood in August. 25/1, good third of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f) 36 days ago. Unexposed on the AW and should make his presence felt. Steady progress for this yard; return to 1m4f should be fine but he'll need a career best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (50/1 -79%) Aikhal |
50/1(-79%) | (1) Aikhal 50/1, Blinkered for 1st time, last of 13 in handicap at Sandown (10f, good, 40/1). Off 174 days (gelded in the interim) and moves back up in trip for this tapeta debut. Well treated judged on peak form for Aidan O'Brien but now has a fair bit to prove. Group 3 winner for former yard; two heavy defeats in midsummer; gelded since; risky. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (10/3 +52%) Educator |
10/3(+52%) | (8) Educator 10/3, 3/1, fourth of 7 in handicap at Ascot (16f, good) 84 days ago, not ideally placed. Back down in trip for this tapeta debut on first start for the Michael Appleby yard. High on the shortlist. Winless for W Haggas in 2023 but retained ability; sold 52,000gns in Oct; no headgear here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (13/2 -8%) Diamond Bay |
13/2(-8%) | (3) Diamond Bay 13/2, Latest win at Wolverhampton in September. 4/1, creditable sixth of 11 in handicap at this course (16.5f). Off 107 days and back down in trip. Probably a shade too high in the weights for now. Multiple AW winner; better than ever in September; one to take seriously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (25/1 -56%) Furzig |
25/1(-56%) | (10) Furzig 25/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Respectable fourth of 12 in handicap (33/1) at Newcastle (12.4f) 13 days ago. Others make more appeal. Winless so far in 2023 and doesn't look in the form required to exploit his reduced mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (100/1 -733%) Galactic Jack |
100/1(-733%) | (4) Galactic Jack 100/1, Hooded for 1st time when last of 7 in juvenile hurdle (9/1) at Sandown (16f, heavy) on debut for new yard 21 days ago. Useful at his best in this sphere but well beaten on latest Flat start at Haydock in July. Useful for A Balding on the Flat; jumping an issue since hurdling; others look stronger. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Graphite (second) and Oneforthegutter (third) are hard to split based on their proximity to each other at Wolverhampton last month, while Educator starts out for Mick Appleby off just 2lb higher than his last winning mark and is dangerous to dismiss. However, GALACTIC JACK was quite highly tried on the Flat during his time with Andrew Balding and is of interest after a couple of spins over hurdles.
HEATHEN had lost his way for Ed Dunlop but got firmly back on track when easily seeing off his eight rivals on debut for David O'Meara here 17 days ago. On that evidence, he is likely to take both this 6 lb higher mark and the rise in class in his stride. Educator has also joined a stable adept at getting the best out of recruits from rival yards and he will be a big threat if taking to this surface (went close on polytrack on sole previous all-weather start). Zealandia is best of the rest.
Heathen won well on his stable debut but this looks tougher and he may have to give best to the progressive DIAMOND BAY.

1st (1) (5/4 +69%) Hiya Maite |
5/4(+69%) | (1) Hiya Maite 5/4, C&D winner. Successful twice this year, with his latest win at Beverley in June. Ran well after 8 weeks off when second of 13 in handicap (9/2) at this C&D 17 days ago, collared only late on. Leading contender. Career best when just pipped in a stronger race here 17 days ago; another big run on cards. |

2nd (3) (12/1 -60%) Strong Johnson |
12/1(-60%) | (3) Strong Johnson 12/1, Three wins from 18 runs this year, with latest success at Newcastle in November. Followed good run with a below-par one when sixth of 13 in handicap (16/1) at this C&D 17 days ago. Not discounted back down in grade. Weakened behind Hiya Maite latest but he'll be a danger to all if matching recent AW best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (22/1 -57%) Above |
22/1(-57%) | (2) Above 22/1, Returned to winning ways at Newmarket in August. However, not in the same form since, tenth of 13 in handicap (20/1) at this C&D 17 days ago. Others more persuasive. Not kicked on from his winning stable debut in August; well behind Hiya Maite latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (18/1 +18%) Honour Your Dreams |
18/1(+18%) | (11) Honour Your Dreams 18/1, Not in the same form as his previous outing when sixth of 12 in handicap at this course (6.1f, 14/1) 8 days ago, racing freely. Visor reapplied but others make more appeal as he goes back up in grade. Conditions could suit him well but he will need to raise his game a notch to win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (7/1 -110%) Captain's Bar |
7/1(-110%) | (8) Captain's Bar 7/1, Better than ever when winning 11-runner handicap (8/1) at this C&D a week ago by neck from Rose King, staying on to lead close home. Not dismissed lightly under a penalty. Kept on well to win over C&D last week; more needed off effectively 6lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (9/2 +25%) Crimson Sand |
9/2(+25%) | (4) Crimson Sand 9/2, Has returned to form on his last 2 starts, faring best of those held up when third of 13 in handicap (11/1) at this C&D 17 days ago. Can give another good account with cheekpieces back on. Stayed on from well back when 3rd here 17 days ago; change of headgear today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (13/2 +54%) Simple Man |
13/2(+54%) | (5) Simple Man 13/2, Failed to come on for his recent run when fifth of 7 in handicap at Bath (5f, soft, 9/2) in October, merely passing beaten rivals. Needs to get back on track as he makes his tapeta debut. Unexposed 3yo; needs to bounce back from a couple of modest runs in the autum; AW debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (17/2 +6%) Stone Of Destiny |
17/2(+6%) | (10) Stone Of Destiny 17/2, Ended long losing run at this C&D on his penultimate start. Shaped as if still in form when 2½ lengths fourth of 11 to Captain's Bar in handicap (13/2) at this C&D a week ago. Needs everything to drop right. C&D win two weeks ago and ran creditably here last week; fast early pace would suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (125/1 -150%) Zargun |
125/1(-150%) | (9) Zargun 125/1, Eighteen runs since his sole success back in 2021. Struggling for form, 7 lengths ninth of 11 to Captain's Bar in handicap (50/1) at this C&D a week ago. Has plenty to prove at present. Suspicion he'll find his level soon but his stable has more obvious candidates here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HIYA MAITE (second) fared best of the bunch who clashed over this course and distance 17 days ago and is fancied to uphold that form with the reopposing Crimson Sand (third), Strong Johnson (sixth), Conquistador (eighth), Above (10th) and Zargun (12th). A high draw proved to be beneficial for the selection that day and from an even higher stalls position here, he can brush aside the 2lb rise. Captain's Bar is feared most carrying a 5lb penalty for his C&D success last week.
HIYA MAITE produced a good effort back on all-weather when runner-up at this C&D 17 days ago, headed only late on by an in-form rival, and he can go one better as he drops back down in grade. Heading the list of dangers is Rose King who resumed his progress when narrowly denied here last week, with Conquistador also considered.
This is a drop in grade for HIYA MAITE (nap) and Roy Bowring's speedy front-runner can take full advantage.

1st (7) (7/2 +13%) Tyke |
7/2(+13%) | (7) Tyke 7/2, C&D winner. Latest win here in September. Good second of 12 in handicap at this C&D (9/1) 8 days ago. Merits consideration. C&D record reads 112 with last week's 2nd a career best; 2lb well in; obvious contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (11/1 +39%) Nammos |
11/1(+39%) | (9) Nammos 11/1, Shaped as if retaining ability after 15-month absence (left Hugo Palmer/had wind op) when sixth of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW) 16 days ago. Needs to step forward now. May be sharper for recent stable debut after long absence; this looks competitive though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (40/1 -122%) Airshow |
40/1(-122%) | (6) Airshow 40/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Goodwood in June. Back on track when respectable fifth of 13 in handicap (22/1) at Bath (5.7f, soft) 88 days ago but possible he may need this on return from break. Three of his 12 career wins have come here; returns from a break off a fair mark; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (14/1 -155%) Wee Fat Mac |
14/1(-155%) | (11) Wee Fat Mac 14/1, 4 wins from 20 runs this year. 7/4, career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Newcastle (5f) 13 days ago. Back up in trip. Not taken lightly in search of the hat-trick. Chasing a hat-trick after two ready Class 6 wins; up in class but can't ignore. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (4/1 +50%) Dark Side Thunder |
4/1(+50%) | (1) Dark Side Thunder 4/1, Three-time C&D winner. Six wins from 18 Flat runs. 3 wins from 9 runs this year. Creditable fifth of 11 in handicap at Kempton (7f, 3/1) 16 days ago. Remains on career-high mark but shouldn't be discounted. 6-10 in AW h'caps and 3-4 over C&D; return to Class 5 in his favour; strong contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (11/1 -38%) Razzam |
11/1(-38%) | (4) Razzam 11/1, Winner at Yarmouth in August. 9/2, step back in right direction when third of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 44 days ago. Frame claims. Conditions shouldn't faze him but a career best will be required to come out on top. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (28/1 -211%) Topo Chico |
28/1(-211%) | (2) Topo Chico 28/1, Latest win at Lingfield in August. 10/1, back on track when fifth of 10 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 16 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Needs to progress further to defy this mark. Promising return from a break at Kempton; sharper today and holds each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (25/1 -127%) Jeans Maite |
25/1(-127%) | (10) Jeans Maite 25/1, Four-time course winner. Creditable close third behind Snash in 12-runner handicap (16/1) at this C&D 17 days ago. Place claims again. All wins at 5f but she went desperately close over C&D last time; should give it a good go. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (12/1 +25%) Beelzebub |
12/1(+25%) | (3) Beelzebub 12/1, Sixth of 9 in handicap at Chelmsford City (6f) 78 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Adrian Wintle. Tongue strap on 1st time. Others more persuasive. Makes stable debut having undergone wind surgery; tongue-tie added; on a winning mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (22/1 -83%) Magical Max |
22/1(-83%) | (5) Magical Max 22/1, Latest win at Newmarket in June. Respectable fifth of 12 in handicap (14/1) at Newcastle (7.1f) 21 days ago. Can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals. Running well over 7f of late and return to 6f should be fine; one to be interested in. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (8) (6/1 -9%) Snash |
6/1(-9%) | (8) Snash 6/1, Enhanced fine all-weather record to win 12-runner handicap at this C&D 17 days ago. Has to be considered again from only 1 lb higher mark. Good record on AW and did well to win over C&D latest; 1lb rise negligible; contender. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
DARK SIDE THUNDER has been in decent form of late and a return to this track can only be a positive, having won three of his four previous starts over C&D. His most recent came in April off 5lb lower, and he is preferred to the likes of last-start C&D winner Snash and Wee Fat Mac, who arrives on a hat-trick. Others to note include Jeans Maite, Razzam and Tyke.
A strong-looking heat for the grade, with WEE FAT MAC fancied to maintain his rich vein of form from a mark 4 lb higher than when scoring under a penalty at Newcastle a fortnight ago. Water of Leith took advantage of a reduced mark when winning over 5f here last week and has to be respected under a penalty, with Tyke and Snash also shortlisted after good recent efforts here.
Magical Max and Dark Side Thunder are feared but WATER OF LEITH can defy a penalty for last week's 5f win here.

100/1(-150%) | (12) Nevzilla 100/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 66/1, tenth of 11 in maiden at Beverley (5f, good to firm). Off 135 days. Back up in trip. More required. Showed little on turf in the summer. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

20/1(-25%) | (6) Wrath Of Hector 20/1, Modest gelding. C&D winner. Eighteen runs since last win in 2022. 9/1, respectable sixth of 10 in handicap at this course (7.1f). Off 123 days. Has some respectable classified form this term; could go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

15/2(-15%) | (3) Smasher 15/2, Modest gelding. 5/1, creditable second of 12 in handicap at Chelmsford City (6f) 18 days ago. Should be on the premises again. In-form 3yo maiden; placed in handicaps the last twice; solid claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (20/1 -67%) Cloud Cuckoo |
20/1(-67%) | (1) Cloud Cuckoo 20/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Eleventh of 13 in handicap (12/1) at Chepstow (5.1f, good to firm). Off 7 months. Makes tapeta debut. Others preferred. 0-4; return to best piece of form would put him in the picture. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (25/1 -56%) Tantastic |
25/1(-56%) | (4) Tantastic 25/1, Modest gelding. Course winner. Bit below form fifth of 10 in minor event (9/1) at Musselburgh (5f, good). Off 177 days. Back up in trip. First run for yard after leaving John Wainwright. Worth a market check. Both wins at 5f; absent since July; debut for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (25/1 -25%) Elizabeth's Joy |
25/1(-25%) | (2) Elizabeth's Joy 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 28/1, eleventh of 12 in handicap at this C&D 35 days ago. Others make more appeal. 0-4; never figured in C&D handicap (AW debut) most recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (8/1 -45%) Amroon |
8/1(-45%) | (8) Amroon 8/1, Modest colt. Winner at Chelmsford City in November. 4/1, below form sixth of 11 in nursery at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 24 days ago. Not one to write off. 6f scorer on penultimate start; this 2yo colt looks one of the main players. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (200/1 -150%) Dash Power |
200/1(-150%) | (9) Dash Power 200/1, 125/1, 20½ lengths last of 11 to Rusheen Boy in nursery at this C&D 7 days ago. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. First-time headgear needs to make a difference. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (100/1 -300%) Nassau Bay |
100/1(-300%) | (11) Nassau Bay 100/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 40/1, last of 11 in nursery at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 24 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Chance depends on how well she responds to the headgear. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
RUSHEEN BOY could not have done it any easier over C&D last week, on the back of a gelding operation, and he will prove extremely difficult to beat with a repeat performance. His form looks stronger than that of Smasher, who deserves a change of luck having placed on four of his last five outings. Chelmsford scorer Amroon and Cloud Cuckoo cannot be ruled out either.
RUSHEEN BOY had plenty to spare over C&D last time and looks well-in under a penalty taking on his elders for the first time, so he's an obvious choice. Smasher should be thereabouts once more and Amroon can't be dismissed.
Judged on his C&D performance last week, RUSHEEN BOY holds the best chance. Fellow 2yo Amroon is second choice.
Ths is the racecard key.
