11:05 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

TOPTIME regained the winning thread in smart style over 5f at this venue on his latest outing and is only 6lb higher for that success. Roy Bowring's six-year-old has lots in his favour in his attempt to record a fourth course victory, with his main threat possibly Rebel Empire, who showed big improvement to score in a first-time tongue-tie over C&D. Emily Post completes the shortlist.

Plenty of these arrive in form, with TOPTIME the pick of them having turned a 5f handicap here into a one-sided affair 10 days ago. Rebel Empire opened his account at the same meeting (6f) and has to be feared, along with Ormolulu.

A revelation when bolting up over C&D ten days ago, REBEL EMPIRE (nap) is taken to defy a 9lb rise. Toptime rates the main danger.

11:35 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Reporter was denied by just under a length in second on his nursery debut at Newcastle on his penultimate start and a repeat of that display would see him go close. However, ARDENNES made a pleasing beginning for the Mick Appleby yard when filling the runner-up spot at Kempton and is only 1lb higher. If he remains in the same form, he could be the one to beat. Carbine Harvester is another to watch out for.

CARBINE HARVESTER was still in need of the experience but improved when making a successful handicap debut at Wolverhampton last time and he can score again now that he's up and running. The main danger could be Ardennes, who returned to form on his first start for Mick Appleby.

Ardennes should make another bold bid but CARBINE HARVESTER isn't fully exposed and can make it 2-2 in nurseries.

12:05 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Feel The Need accounted for Hitched (third) when successful by a neck over track and trip and he can confirm that form to go close. However, it may pay to side with DEMBE, who justified favouritism to make it two wins from his last three starts at Kempton last month. Simon Pearce's charge remains on a workable mark and it would be no surprise to see him go in again. First Kiss makes her handicap/stable debut and warrants a market check.

If FEEL THE NEED is in the same form as when winning here a couple of weeks ago a 4 lb rise may not prevent him going in again. Hitched had his winning run ended when third to the selection here last time but it was another good run and he's likely to figure prominently again. The shortlist is completed by First Kiss, a possible improver in handicaps for new trainer Ollie Sangster.

A 4lb rise demands more from FEEL THE NEED but he may well be up to the job. Eligible has plenty in his favour too.

12:40 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Being an habitual slow starter, BOWOOD is not without risk. However, he counters that with an impressive haul of three wins from six starts since joining Ivan Furtado and looks worth chancing after another bold effort when second in a similar event over C&D. Elle-May Croot gets on well with the four-year-old and her claim is another factor in his favour. Bella Bisbee, a winner over 7f here last time, and the still-unexposed Vibrato are also solid options.

BELLA BISBEE only went up 2 lb for her recent 7f course success and is taken to defy the handicapper. Bowood will be a threat if in the same form as when going close over C&D a fortnight ago. Gincident is also down to a mark he should be very competitive from.

On the back of a career-best effort, BOWOOD could well go one better and record a first AW win. Gincident is second choice.

13:15 Southwell Stakes (Class 5) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It's difficult to assess what WAITING FOR LOVE actually achieved when she won by seven lengths in a novice event at Wolverhampton. However, it was promising enough to suggest she can brush aside a penalty in this company. Muddy Mooy won with less in hand at Chelmsford on her debut in January, but is interesting returning for a new stable after a break. Nahy, who cost 525,000gns as a yearling, is another must for the shortlist.

WAITING FOR LOVE confirmed debut promise when a wide-margin winner at Wolverhampton and is the one to beat under a penalty. The well-bred Zepparella should have more to offer having left her debut run well behind when third at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago and rates the main threat ahead of debut-winner Muddy Mooy, who has an absence and penalty to overcome.

Wolverhampton scorer WAITING FOR LOVE looks capable of defying a 5lb penalty. Second choice is Zepparella.

13:50 Southwell Stakes (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SINGOURA, who chased home a now 78-rated opponent on debut, has the scope to build on that and can get off the mark at the second time of asking. Gemma Tutty's filly was keen in the early stages of that race, but a more settled approach could make her hard to beat with the experience to draw upon. Commendation represents a powerful yard and could leave behind her two Newbury performances. Suzuka offered some encouragement at Newcastle and is another to consider.

MY MATE BEATTIE showed improved form when runner-up on her nursery bow at Wolverhampton and sets the standard back in a novice. Suzuka did some decent late work starting out at Newcastle and should have more to offer over this extra 1f, while Singoura made an eye-catching debut when second at the same track 5 weeks ago.

Singoura and SUZUKA both shaped well on their Newcastle debuts and the latter could take the bigger step forward.

14:25 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

YURINOV shaped with promise on his stable debut earlier this month. Fourth, having suffered interference inside the final furlong, the four-year-old competes from an unchanged mark and may well step forward. The unexposed Last Empress returned to action with a positive performance and is an interesting candidate eased 2lb in the ratings, while the consistent Gold Aura should not be far away.

Cases can be made for several but, with his reappearance under his belt, NIGHT BEAR is selected to regain the winning thread with his usual headgear reapplied at the expense of Incan Empire, who should advance his form now handicapping for his up-and-coming handler. Last Empress, Yurinov and long-standing maiden Gold Aura are a handful of others to consider, too.

The well-related LAST EMPRESS could well turn things round with the exposed Blue Collar. Yurinov is second choice.

15:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 14f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

The vote goes to KHANGAI, who kept on gamely to score over 1m4f at Wolverhampton earlier this month and if improving for the step up in trip, should not be overburdened by a 3lb rise in the handicap. Socialist Agenda faded out of contention over the extended 2m at Newcastle recently, but he merits respect dropped in distance. A drop in class and trip could also bring Albert Lasker into contention.

A low-level handicap and a chance is taken on LINDWALL, who'll surely go close from an easing mark if returning to the sort of form shown on his penultimate outing at Newcastle. Last-time-out scorer Khangai is the danger ahead of Socialist Agenda.

Khangai is in good form but SOCIALIST AGENDA can confirm the promise of his staying wins on the AW in the spring.

15:35 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

STREET LIFE has been holding his form well in recent starts and, with far less to prove than some of these, he ought to go very close with the assistance of Ryan Kavanagh's 7lb claim. Show Me Show Me might not be the force of old, but he merits respect at this level and it would come as no surprise to see a big run. Ninety Nine reached the frame at Newcastle last month and appeals as one of the likelier candidates from a 3lb higher mark.

SHOW ME SHOW ME was better than the result last time and he's handicapped to win now so, down in grade, he's worth a chance to take this if the pace is strong enough. Street Life is in good order and should be on the premises again, and So Grateful can't be dismissed.

So Grateful and SHOW ME SHOW ME appeal as being a cut above this level and can fight out the finish.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
