17:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 14f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Jack Doughty still being able to claim 3lb is a persuasive factor as he teams up with ALEX THE GREAT. Now under the tutelage of the shrewd and in-form Tony Carroll, the four-year-old's chance is compelling on just his third attempt over 1m6f. Blenheim Lad is respected bidding for a third consecutive C&D win. The selection's stable companion Gentle Fire is also noted on debut for the yard.

BLENHEIM LAD is on a roll and can make it 3-3 over C&D. Alex The Great is interesting on his second start for Tony Carroll, while Shaad is a potential improver now starting out for James Owen.

The majority have questions to answer and BLENHEIM LAD has less to prove than any as he goes for a C&D hat-trick.

17:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 7f  Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

WHIZZ BY finished full running when she made a winning nursery debut over this C&D 19 days ago and, as the only previous winner in the race, she has to be of high interest with a 7lb higher mark still potentially underestimating her potential. Sherlock is feared most after a creditable third-placed finish at Newcastle a fortnight ago, while We've Got This and Zadkiel can make an impact too.

Quite a competitive nursery but WHIZZ BY was well on top when opening her account on her first crack handicapping here 3 weeks ago and can follow up. Sherlock, Zadkiel and We've Got This are among the other key players.

The pick is SHERLOCK, who encountered some traffic when third on his nursery debut a fortnight ago and drops from 0-75 grade today.

18:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

NOVAK runs for a yard which enjoyed three winners last week and the five-year-old, who has flourished when teamed up with Archie Young in the saddle of late, should go well off a competitive mark and from a handy draw. Monopolise, who tends to go well for Billy Loughnane, needs considering despite a 5lb penalty for last week's success over 1m at Kempton. Dynamic Talent and Royal Parade complete the shortlist.

Having slipped in the weights, MONOPOLISE bounced back to score easily at Kempton recently and he's worth a chance to go in again under a penalty. Novak arrives in top form and should also feature, while Dynamic Talent can play a part if he avoids another sluggish start.

A touch unlucky not to make it 2-2 for Archie Young over C&D last Thursday, NOVAK looks the most solid option.

18:30 Southwell Stakes (Class 5) 6f  Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

NAZUKI shaped with bundles of promise when filling the runner-up spot on her debut over track and trip last month and she is likely to take a big step forward from that effort. The daughter of Earthlight looks to have been found a good opportunity and can find normal improvement to get off the mark. Cressida Wildes sets the standard with a rating of 82 on her first start for the Phil McEntee stable and could find more in first-time cheekpieces. Newcomer Nakaaha needs to be monitored in the market.

NAZUKI showed enough promise on debut to think she can improve past form-pick Cressida Wildes. Nakaaha is another newcomer to keep an eye on in the market.

The experienced Cressida Wildes sets the standard, but NAZUKI isn't far behind on her C&D debut second and should improve.

19:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 3) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Dutch Kingdom struck in pleasing style at Chelmsford on his latest outing, which made it two wins from his last three starts, and he should go well off a 6lb higher rating. However, SECRET GUEST gets the nod. Bryan Smart's four-year-old can be forgiven for his poor effort when well beaten at York last time, due to suffering interference at a crucial stage. He is better judged on his second at Ripon prior to that and could prove hard to beat. Tan Rapido is another to watch out for.

Quite a useful handicap, with Jack Channon's CAJETAN taken to resume his progression back on AW. Fellow 3-y-o City House is feared most ahead of Secret Guest, who has an excuse at York last time and had been in cracking form prior to that. Tan Rapido is drawn wider than ideal but is another 3-y-o in this line-up who may have more to offer.

This looks warm but DUTCH KINGDOM (nap) is thriving and could yet rate higher. City House and Mojomaker are feared most.

19:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 3) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

QAZAQ has made a strong impression in his young career so far with two impressive victories at Chelmsford and Kempton. The son of Kingman now tackles handicaps for the first time and, with any amount of improvement to come, he can defy his opening rating of 89. Magnum Opus finished fifth in a hot handicap at Doncaster in September and should go well, while Lion Of War could also have a say after his third at Kempton.

It's hard to resist QAZAQ, for all that he will likely be plenty short enough in the betting for this handicap debut. Indeed, he is bred in the purple and has looked a good prospect when winning 7f novice events at Chelmsford and Kempton, leaving the strong impression that there is plenty more to come. Rhythm Master resumes on the all-weather on a potentially very handy mark and is next on the list, while the in-form Chalk Mountain and Magnum Opus are others for the shortlist.

The vote goes to four-time course winner ELIGIBLE who has dropped 8lb lower than when winning over C&D in January.

20:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A competitive sprint handicap for punters to solve and just a tentative vote is for WHATS IN THE BAG, who performed well on soft Yarmouth ground three weeks ago when third and is entitled to have improved for that comeback spin. There are four last-start scorers in opposition, though, and Spirit Of Applause is a big player given he's holding his form really well at present. You can throw Thankuappreciate and Sugar Hill Babe into the mix as well.

Not many of these can be ruled out with any great confidence. SUGAR HILL BABE produced her best effort yet when coming from off the pace to beat Paddy's Day over C&D last month. She is taken to uphold the form with the runner-up, despite being 4 lb worse off this time. Dashing Harry struck at Kempton last month and is also accorded respect, along with another pair who occupied the first two positions in a C&D handicap recently, namely Thankuappreciate and Juicy.

Related to Tapeta winners, WHATS IN THE BAG ran with promise back from a long absence recently. Thankuappreciate is second choice.

20:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 14f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

There are a couple of interesting three-year-olds going to post and Thrilling Dream could go well now tried in a first-time visor. It's Jedd O'Keeffe's SOMETHING who is preferred, though, as he's impressed at Newcastle the last twice and should be fine going up to this trip. Of the older horses, Nibiru must be taken seriously following his determined Dundalk triumph.

While this is a stronger handicap than those that SOMETHING has landed at Newcastle on his last two starts. he is clearly thriving and, with the possibility of even better to come now moving back up in trip, he is taken to complete the hat-trick. Great Bedwyn and Heathen are taken to fill the places.

Thrilling Dream and Great Bedwyn can go well but SOMETHING can cope with another rise in the weights and grade.
