12:23 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Running off just 2lb higher than his last winning rating, MIXEDWAVE has plenty to recommend him with the ground in his favour and he's likely to be sharper after blowing the cobwebs away at Uttoxeter last month. Stringtoyourbow has yet to sparkle over fences but, like the selection, might have needed the run last time out and could be a different proposition here. Ali Star Bert is back on a winning mark and shouldn't be underestimated.

Preference is for STRINGTOYOURBOW, who figures off a handy mark and arrives on the back of a creditable third at Worcester last month. Big Bee Hive and Hamartia can also make their presence felt in an open-looking contest.

This assignment shouldn't strain STRINGTOYOURBOW's stamina quite as much as Worcester last time. He's favoured over Big Bee Hive.

12:58 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

These fences can be tricky to negotiate and with that in mind, previous course winner ERIC CARMEN might have an advantage over the rest. The Gary Hammer-trained gelding has been struggling to find his form over longer distances of late and, getting plenty of weight from these rivals, dropping to this trip could be a profitable move. Lady Gwen is unexposed as a chaser and warrants respect as a result, while Jolyjump is another potential improver to seriously consider.

LADY GWEN isn't straightforward but made a good start over fences at Exeter last month and can get off the mark over the larger obstacles here. Jolyjump may provide the chief threat.

Back around a suitably sharp track, LADY GWEN can make it second time lucky over fences. Jolyjump can go close if jumping better.

13:33 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A mistake four out put paid to the unexposed DAVIDOC rewarding favourite-backers in a hurdle race at Plumpton last month but, looking every inch a chaser, the switch to this discipline can see the Ben Pauling-trained gelding make amends. Icare Grandchamp has winning form over fences and is feared most off a competitive mark. Last-time-out hurdle winners Begin The Luck and Doyen For Money command respect but have more to do from their revised marks now switched to chasing.

It's likely that point winners DAVIDOC and Doyen For Money will step up on what they showed over hurdles now switched to the larger obstacles. Marginal preference is for the former, who promises to be suited by this stiffer test and he hails from a yard that has made a very bright start to the season. Icare Grandchamp is third choice ahead of Begin The Luck.

Topweight DAVIDOC should take well to chasing and is first choice ahead of Icare Grandchamp, who looks another solid contender.

14:08 Southwell NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

LITTLE WATSON won a bumper on his racecourse debut for Nigel Twiston-Davies in May and was sold shortly after before moving to the Suzy Smith stable. He was beaten less than a length by the odds-on favourite over this C&D on his sole outing since and, if he improves again, then he could go one better today. Tony Joe makes his debut and has the pedigree as a son of Westerner but he may be better over further, while Remus showed glimmers of ability on his debut.

TONY JOE makes stacks of appeal on paper as a half-brother to Ahoy Senor and from a yard that makes hay in these races, so he could have the measure of the penalised Little Watson. Benmore is another newcomer to note.

The vote goes to LITTLE WATSON, who won on his debut in May and was only narrowly denied under a penalty over C&D on recent return.

14:43 Southwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

In a very small field, there is every chance that Anthony Honeyball has found a suitable opportunity for Plumpton bumper winner DANCE AND GLANCE to get off the mark on his first attempt over hurdles. He made all when last seen in May and with Richie McLernon keeping the ride, he could try the same tactics here. Bennettshill pulled up on his debut under NH rules at Bangor but did win his point-to-point at Ballingarry and can only improve, while newcomer Classical Sting is one to watch in the betting.

This looks a good chance for Plumpton bumper winner DANCE AND GLANCE to make a successful start to his hurdle career, with Classical Sting best of the rest.

Bennettshill may do better back on good ground but bumper winner DANCE AND GLANCE has good claims now hurdling.

15:18 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The progressive BARRONS LAND arrives here on the back of two victories and a 5lb rise for the most recent of those wins may not be enough to stop her from making a winning debut for these connections. Thankyourluckystar also scored on his latest outing and has to be of interest on his return, while Toonagh Warrior is the pick of the remainder.

TOONAGH WARRIOR could be spot on for this with his reappearance behind him and gets the vote in first-time headgear. Alastair Ralph has his team in form so Thankyourluckystar rates a possible threat on his first outing since scoring at Worcester in June. The prolific Barrons Land has changed stables since his latest win but still merits respect.

This can go to TOONAGH WARRIOR (nap), who shaped well on his recent seasonal debut, has slipped to a good mark and sports new headgear.

15:52 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 20f  Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

OFFICER OF STATE had plenty in hand when making a winning handicap debut at Fontwell a week ago and the five-year-old is very hard to oppose as he is 15lb well in here, despite a 7lb penalty. However, Laser Focus bolted up at Huntingdon on Tuesday and cannot be discounted off the same mark, while Martalite edges out Zoran to be the pick of the remainder.

OFFICER OF STATE and Laser Focus both scored with plenty in hand last time and should be able to feature once again, although the former makes more appeal given how much handicapping scope he has based on Flat form. Zoran is the best of the remainder returning to hurdling.

It's hard to get away from OFFICER OF STATE who made a mockery of his initial mark last week. He's essentially off the same mark here.
