1st (3) ( ) Shaha |
() | (3) Shaha , Promising individual. Second of 8 in novice (2/1) at Ascot (8f, good) on debut in May. That form is working out pretty well and, with improvement anticipated, she can be expected to make a bold bid to go one better. Went close in a useful contest on Ascot debut in May; off since but still the one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) ( ) Santorini Star |
() | (2) Santorini Star , 290,000 gns yearling, Golden Horn filly. Half-sister to 3 winners, including very smart 7f-9.2f and winner Dreamloper and 1¼m-1¾m winner Dreamweaver. Dam 1¼m-12.4f winner. Lots to like on paper. Belated debut but bred to be good, being a half-sister to a dual Group 1 winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ( ) Merry Widow |
() | (1) Merry Widow , Shamardal filly. Half-sister to useful 2-y-o 7f winner Desert Order. Yard can ready a newcomer and it'll be interesting to see what the market has to say. Half-sister to a useful AW winner; the betting should provide more clues. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Santorini Star makes plenty of appeal on paper as a half-sister to two-time Group 1 winner Dreamloper and she needs to be monitored in the market ahead of her debut. However, experience may count for plenty in this small field and, with that in mind, SHAHA looks the way to go. John & Thady Gosden's three-year-old only found subsequent Listed winner Diamond Rain too good on her debut at Ascot and, with normal progression, she could prove hard to beat. Merry Widow looks booked for third.
While both of the newcomers are appealing on paper, SHAHA showed plenty when just touched off by a subsequent listed winner at Ascot during the spring and, provided that she takes to this surface, the Cracksman filly will prove hard to beat. Santorini Star is taken to edge out Merry Widow in the race for second-place prizemoney.
The two newcomers make appeal but SHAHA went close in a decent race on debut and is the call before any betting clues are known.

1st (3) (6/1 -33%) Lady Nunthorpe |
6/1(-33%) | (3) Lady Nunthorpe 6/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, third of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (5f, 18/1) 14 days ago. Wouldn't be without an each-way chance if able to build on that. Back-to-form third on AW in cheekpieces 14 days ago; claims if she can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/1 +69%) Rogue De Vega |
5/1(+69%) | (5) Rogue De Vega 5/1, Seventeen runs since last win in 2023. Eighth of 11 in handicap (20/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 3 days ago, left poorly placed. Went close at Newcastle 3 starts back and a reproduction of that form would give him a serious chance. Went close at Newcastle last month but down the field twice since, taking losing run to 17. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/4 0%) Papa Don't Preach |
7/4(0%) | (1) Papa Don't Preach 7/4, 9/4 and blinkered for 1st time, improved on recent efforts to win 7-runner handicap at Chelmsford City (5f) 5 days ago, slowly away. 5 lb penalty may not be enough to prevent him from repeating the dose here. Comfortable win in blinkers at Wolverhampton on Saturday; can go in again if in same form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/1 +42%) Soul Singer |
7/1(+42%) | (4) Soul Singer 7/1, Winner at Musselburgh in September. Fourth of 7 in handicap (16/1) at Newcastle (6f) 16 days ago. Went close over 6f here on sole previous visit during the spring but minor place money is the most likely scenario. Won weak novice last month but 0-9 in handicaps after latest Newcastle fourth. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (11/1 +8%) Street Life |
11/1(+8%) | (9) Street Life 11/1, Three-time C&D winner. 4 lengths seventh of 9 to Azucena in handicap at Newcastle (5f, 5/1) 13 days ago. Blinkers back on and he looks vulnerable. Three C&D wins; also second here last month and can bounce back from lesser run latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (22/1 -83%) Vadamiah |
22/1(-83%) | (8) Vadamiah 22/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. Fourth of 8 in handicap (10/1) at this C&D 18 days ago. Cheekpieces on for 1st time and needs to raise her game. Three wins at Catterick in 2022 but hasn't added to them since; cheekpieces go on now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (9/1 -125%) Azucena |
9/1(-125%) | (2) Azucena 9/1, Won 9-runner handicap at Newcastle (5f, 17/2) 13 days ago, comfortably. Up 6 lb and, moreover, her hit-and-miss profile is cause for concern. Back to form to take advantage of reduced mark at Newcastle 13 days ago; respected up 6lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (80/1 -142%) Al Najada |
80/1(-142%) | (6) Al Najada 80/1, Blinkered for 1st time, tenth of 11 in handicap (50/1) at Musselburgh (5f, good) when last seen 16 months ago. First run for yard after leaving K. R. Burke and sports a first-time hood. Makes belated return for a new yard; could only consider if backed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (20/1 -25%) Eeh Bah Gum |
20/1(-25%) | (7) Eeh Bah Gum 20/1, 16/1, fifth of 11 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good) 15 days ago. Chance if rediscovering old form but it's a big 'if'. Is falling in th weights without obviously shaping as if ready to take advantage. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Papa Don't Preach proved a different proposition in first-time blinkers when running out a two-length victor at Chelmsford recently and he should mount a bold bid, despite his 5lb penalty. However, he could come out second best to LADY NUNTHORPE, who produced a better effort to make the frame in this grade at Newcastle earlier in the month. With Tom Kiely-Marshall claiming 5lb in the plate, she could be the one to beat. Soul Singer is another to note.
PAPA DON'T PREACH did the job well when resuming winning ways at Chelmsford on Saturday and he looks more than capable of shrugging off a penalty in this company. Lady Nunthorpe could be the one to follow him home if able to back up her latest effort, while Rogue de Vega needs to bounce back but he will certainly have a chance if able to do so.
If the blinkers continue to have a positive effect \bPAPA DON'T PREACH (nap)p looks capable of defying a 5lb penalty for Wolverhampton.

1st (5) (5/1 +50%) Fluorescence |
5/1(+50%) | (5) Fluorescence 5/1, Foaled May 5. Twilight Son filly. Half-sister to useful 2-y-o 7f winner New Dimension and 6f-7f winner Mellys Flyer. Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. One to note in the betting on debut for stable enjoying a fine season. Makes some paper appeal but it's likely a useful effort will be needed on this debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (8/15 +64%) Chiringita |
8/15(+64%) | (3) Chiringita 8/15, American Pharoah filly who built on her promising Newmarket debut effort when third of 8 in a Kempton novice (6f) 22 days ago, finishing well to pull well clear of the remainder. Pedigree an ongoing recommendation and she's of interest with further progress anticipated. Promising third at Kempton (6f) latest; the obvious danger to Shamrock Breeze. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (50/1 -25%) Marvelously |
50/1(-25%) | (9) Marvelously 50/1, £100,000 purchase as a yearling but notably green and not threatened in 2 outings to date, fifth of 8 in novice at Kempton (6f, 100/1) 22 days ago. Likely longer-term project. Modest form both runs, finishing over 6l behind reopposing Chiringita at Kempton latterly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (4/1 -191%) Shamrock Breeze |
4/1(-191%) | (1) Shamrock Breeze 4/1, Fairly useful filly (5f maiden winner) who quickly shaped as if back in form when fifth of 8 in competitive minor event at Dundalk (5f) 4 weeks ago. Sets the standard back in calmer waters and shortlisted upped to 6f with Tom Marquand booked. Useful 5f form, including placing at Listed level; tough to beat if seeing out 6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (22/1 -38%) Flashy Dark Angel |
22/1(-38%) | (4) Flashy Dark Angel 22/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Ninth of 11 in novice (18/1) at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 29 days ago, fading. Back up in trip now but handicaps promise to be more her bag. Showed ability on second of three turf starts but others preferred now switching to AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (16/1 -14%) Thecoffeepoddotco |
16/1(-14%) | (11) Thecoffeepoddotco 16/1, Encouragement when making the frame first 3 starts but progress has stalled of late, below form in first time cheekpieces when fifth of 11 in novice at Carlisle (5.8f, good to soft) 36 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Fair form at start of career but recent efforts disappointing, including in cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (66/1 -65%) Hot Breath |
66/1(-65%) | (6) Hot Breath 66/1, Foaled February 18. Bated Breath filly. Half-sister to several winners, including smart 6f winner Mobsta and useful 6f-7f winner Cincuenta Pasos. Half-sister to a Group 2 winner; betting should guide for in-form stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (50/1 -150%) Lady Diesel |
50/1(-150%) | (8) Lady Diesel 50/1, Twice-raced maiden. 40/1, sixth of 9 in novice at Kempton (6f) 27 days ago, headway under pressure 2f out without being unduly punished. Handicaps promise to be more suitable moving forward. Has hinted at ability but likely more one for handicaps after this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (200/1 -100%) Baby Rover |
200/1(-100%) | (2) Baby Rover 200/1, The Irish Rover filly who has finished well held both starts in maiden/novice company and she looks one for low-grade handicaps later on. Big prices and down the field in two outings on turf; outsider again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (28/1 -40%) Mseka |
28/1(-40%) | (10) Mseka 28/1, Foaled May 3. €130,000 yearling, No Nay Never filly. Half-sister to winner up to 1m McQueen. Dam lightly raced half-sister to useful 9.5f/1¼m winner Adool out of useful winner up to 7f Khulood. Betting should prove informative on debut. Wears hood. 130,000euros yearling in good hands but has a high standard to aim at; wears a hood. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CHIRINGITA finished a fair fourth on her debut before showing improvement to make the frame over 6f at Kempton on her latest outing. The daughter of American Pharoah looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to shed her maiden tag at the third time of asking. Thecoffeepoddotco brings plenty of experience to the table and might get into contention, along with Shamrock Breeze.
CHIRINGITA's latest Kempton third was an effort packed full of promise so, with clear potential for better still, she earns the vote ahead of Irish raider and standard setter Shamrock Breeze who has her first crack at this trip. Fluorescence and Mseka are a couple of newcomers to monitor in the betting for clues.
Irish raider SHAMROCK BREEZE has the ideal draw to showcase her speed and is taken to last home on her first attempt at 6f.

1st (5) (4/1 +20%) How Lovely |
4/1(+20%) | (5) How Lovely 4/1, Foaled March 23. 200,000 gns yearling, No Nay Never filly. Half-sister to 2-y-o 5.5f winner Kodikova. Makes plenty of appeal on paper and it will look significant if the market speaks in her favour. Likely type on breeding for a respected stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (9/4 +72%) Nazuki |
9/4(+72%) | (9) Nazuki 9/4, Foaled February 20. Earthlight filly. Closely related to 2-y-o 7f winner Change For Good and half-sister to 6f-7f winner White Umbrella. Dam 2-y-o 7f winner. Watch the betting for clues. Makes paper appeal but all stable's 16 2yo winners this year have been on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/4 +30%) Dear Cat |
7/4(+30%) | (1) Dear Cat 7/4, Lightly-raced winner. Successful at Salisbury in August. Bit below form ninth of 15 in nursery at Doncaster (6.5f, good, 11/2) 35 days ago but sights lowered here and she will be a danger to all if taking to this surface. Made all in 7f maiden in August; held in Doncaster nursery since but player back in novice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (14/1 +13%) Elland Road Girl |
14/1(+13%) | (4) Elland Road Girl 14/1, Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 11 in novice (28/1) at Beverley (5f, good to firm) on debut 29 days ago. Up in trip and she needs to raise her game. Showed ability when fifth on turf debut but needs to leave that bare form behind. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (40/1 -233%) Jake Loves Laura |
40/1(-233%) | (6) Jake Loves Laura 40/1, Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 10 in maiden (80/1) at Newbury (6f, good to firm) on debut 49 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Dominic Ffrench Davis and she's probably worth taking on. Fifth on 6f Newbury debut for Dominic Ffrench-Davis; new trainer yet to have a winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (14/1 +13%) Manara |
14/1(+13%) | (8) Manara 14/1, Once-raced maiden. 100/1, seventh of 11 in novice at Kempton (6f) on debut 15 days ago, slowly away. Likely to improve with that run under her belt. Green when seventh of 11 on 6f Kempton debut; needs to have come on a fair bit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (16/1 -14%) Thamna |
16/1(-14%) | (10) Thamna 16/1, Once-raced maiden. 10/1, sixth of 8 in maiden at Newcastle (7.1f) on debut 23 days ago, not knocked about. Looks vulnerable. Hinted at ability on her 7f Newcastle debut 23 days ago; entitled to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (16/1 -60%) Bear Facts |
16/1(-60%) | (2) Bear Facts 16/1, Once-raced maiden. 25/1, seventh of 12 in novice at Kempton (7f) on debut 31 days ago. Will be more street-wise this time and it would be no surprise to see her step up on that here. Showed up well for long way on 7f Kempton debut; may last longer this time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BRAVE BYREFLECTION made a debut full of promise when runner-up at Ripon. The winner has subsequently won again, so that form looks solid and the daughter of Mohaather is one to keep on the right side of. Maiden winner Dear Cat faced a tough assignment in a nursery at Doncaster last time and can go well back at this level, while Jake Loves Laura and Bear Facts are both likely improvers.
The vote goes to BRAVE BYREFLECTION, who fared best of the newcomers when runner-up in a Ripon maiden in August and she is sure to improve. Dear Cat will find this company more palatable having contested a Class 2 Doncaster nursery last time and she is second choice ahead of likely-looking newcomers How Lovely and Nazuki.
Dear Cat should go well under a penalty but Ripon debut runner-up BRAVE BYREFLECTION may be able to improve past her.

Hopes pinned on the first-time visor sparking improvement. Drawn a blank since debut win two years ago; needs a visor to make a difference. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (3/1 +25%) Spirit Of Applause |
3/1(+25%) | (1) Spirit Of Applause 3/1, Latest win at Beverley in August. Good third of 10 in handicap at this C&D (8/1) 12 days ago. Unlucky not to finish closer that day (denied a clear run at a crucial stage) and he's a major player. Back in form since cheekpieces went on, catching eye when third over C&D latest; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/1 -29%) Strong Johnson |
9/1(-29%) | (6) Strong Johnson 9/1, Sixteen runs since last win in 2023. 10/3, fourth of 7 in handicap at Hamilton (5f, good) 24 days ago. Back up in trip and he's one for the shortlist. Mostly respectable efforts lately but losing run now up to 16. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (11/1 -10%) Beyond Equal |
11/1(-10%) | (9) Beyond Equal 11/1, Thirty runs since last win in 2021. Respectable third of 12 in handicap (8/1) at Bath (5.7f, soft) 16 days ago. 1 lb lower now and he has to enter calculations from an each-way perspective. Creditable third at Bath latest but his very long losing run is a negative. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (12/1 -71%) Fiscal Policy |
12/1(-71%) | (4) Fiscal Policy 12/1, Two wins from 5 runs this year, the latest at Pontefract in September. Bit below form fifth of 10 in handicap at this C&D (11/1) 12 days ago, finishing around 2 lengths adrift of Spirit of Applause. Place possibilities. Two turf wins lately and better than result (hampered) over C&D latest; drawn widest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (12/1 -9%) Darlo Pride |
12/1(-9%) | (12) Darlo Pride 12/1, 4/1, first run since leaving Anthony Carson when seventh of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 17 days ago. On a reasonable mark but he will need to find something extra if he's to get his head in front. Four AW wins for Tony Carson but never involved on last month's yard debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (11/2 +54%) Cliffcake |
11/2(+54%) | (8) Cliffcake 11/2, Four-time course winner. Fifth of 8 in handicap (3/1) at this course (7.1f) 44 days ago, not ideally placed. Others look stronger. Four course wins and respectable fifth back here latest; not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (13/2 +28%) Glamorous Express |
13/2(+28%) | (7) Glamorous Express 13/2, Good third of 16 in handicap (11/2) at Bath (5.7f, good to firm) 32 days ago, suited by way race developed. Looks vulnerable for win purposes. Recent turf efforts respectable and he's better on AW (3-11). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (20/1 -25%) Bellagio Man |
20/1(-25%) | (11) Bellagio Man 20/1, C&D winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. 10/1, creditable fourth of 10 in handicap at this C&D 7 days ago. While he's not a forlorn hope, others make more appeal all the same. Down in weights and bit better when fourth over C&D last week; needs to build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (8/1 +0%) Lipsink |
8/1(+0%) | (3) Lipsink 8/1, Bit below form seventh of 16 in handicap at Bath (5.7f, good to firm, 5/1) 32 days ago, racing closer to pace than ideal. In good form prior to that and he's a live each-way candidate. Mainly in good form since joining this yard and can bounce back from below-par run latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (50/1 -127%) High Violet |
50/1(-127%) | (10) High Violet 50/1, Winner at Leicester in July. Ninth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f, 25/1) 14 days ago. Will need a couple of these to falter if she's to make a impact. Remains 4lb above the mark she defied at Leicester in June and others are more obvious. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (33/1 -65%) Ticktyboo |
33/1(-65%) | (5) Ticktyboo 33/1, Winner at Chepstow in August. 33/1, last of 13 in handicap at York (5f, soft) 39 days ago. Back up in trip and he's probably worth taking on. Went close in Newcastle handicap on previous AW start; this easier than York last time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SPIRIT OF APPLAUSE was beaten just a length when third over course and distance on his recent all-weather debut. That effort can be upgraded, given he had to be switched for a clear run, and Tim Easterby's sprinter makes plenty of appeal. Fiscal Policy was hampered when finishing fifth in the same race and can finish closer with normal luck in running, while Cliffcake won off a 5lb higher mark at the track back in March and is another to note.
The most appealing of these is SPIRIT OF APPLAUSE, who saw daylight too late in the day when a close third in a C&D handicap last time and he remains on an attractive mark. Strong Johnson's losing run is mounting up but, on the upside, the assessor is relenting and this 8-y-o has to be feared. Fiscal Policy, who wasn't too far behind the selection over C&D earlier this month, is also shortlisted, along with Lipsink.
Tim Easterby's SPIRIT OF APPLAUSE gets the vote to build on a promising first AW start over C&D 12 days ago.

1st (12) (3/1 +40%) Paborus |
3/1(+40%) | (12) Paborus 3/1, Won novices at Redcar and Carlisle in May and shaped better than the distance beaten suggests when seventh of 16 in handicap at York (7.9f, good to firm, 8/1) 55 days ago, weakening late on after racing freely. Remains capable of better. Better than result on 1m handicap debut; impressed with 7f novice wins before that; player. |

4/1(+56%) | (5) Bobby Bennu 4/1, Landed the odds at Chester in June and defied a penalty at Thirsk (7f) in July. Not disgraced whilst looking no more than averagely treated since, fifth of 6 in handicap at Epsom (7f, good) 52 days ago. Needs to pull out more. Lightly raced but only fifth in his two handicaps and his mark demands improvement. |

40/1(-82%) | (7) Silver Samurai 40/1, Returning from a 4-month break when resuming winning ways at Doncaster (7f) in June but not scaled same heights in trio of starts since. Others make greater appeal. Won at Doncaster in June but well held all three outings since and 0-9 on AW. |

4th (4) (9/2 -13%) Billyjoh |
9/2(-13%) | (4) Billyjoh 9/2, Course winner who emerged with plenty of credit in big field turf handicaps this summer, not least when third in Stewards' Cup at Goodwood in August. Below best next time but quickly shaped as if back in form when midfield in Ayr Gold Cup next time. Of interest back at 7f. Placed at Royal Ascot and in Stewards' Cup; better than result latest; goes well here. |

Career-best RPR in Kempton conditions race recently; well treated from unchanged mark. |

Return to this venue may well have positive effect now. Possibly stretched by a mile on turf last twice and well treated on peak AW form. |

9th (1) (9/1 -13%) Cloud Cover |
9/1(-13%) | (1) Cloud Cover 9/1, Progressed into a useful performer on AW, adding to her tally on Finals Day at Newmarket (7f) in March. Not seen to best effect from so far back when seventh of 12 in handicap back at that venue in August and she's respected. Won 7f Newcastle handicap on Good Friday and second in AW Listed next time; excuses latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (18/1 -50%) Koy Koy |
18/1(-50%) | (8) Koy Koy 18/1, Ended last term in good heart, successful on AW debut at Wolverhampton (8.6f) prior to a good third at Ayr (1m). Has caught the eye on a couple of occasions this time around but ultimately had every chance when fifth of 9 in handicap at Sandown (7f, soft) 34 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Won previous AW start but hard to fancy on recent efforts; cheekpieces go on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (33/1 -267%) Persuasion |
33/1(-267%) | (9) Persuasion 33/1, Gained reward for a series of consistent efforts to get off the mark for the season in 11-runner event at Haydock (7f, good) 6 weeks ago, never far away in a race where it paid to be close to the slow gallop. One to consider from 3 lb higher. Knocking at door prior to latest 7f Haydock win but needs to show he's as good on AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (3) (40/1 +0%) Documenting |
40/1(+0%) | (3) Documenting 40/1, Latest win at Chelmsford City in April. Last of 9 in handicap at Thirsk (7f, good to firm, 22/1) 48 days ago, finding the run of the race against him. Better showing not ruled out back on AW but he lacks the potential of one or two here. Mainly in good form this year and given bit of time since a poor run in August. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
BILLYJOH gets another chance in an open contest. Mick Appleby's charge has yet to win over 7f, but has finished runner-up over this distance at both Ascot at Goodwood this season. Persuasion can go well again after scoring at Haydock, while both Bobby Bennu and Merlin The Wizard have plenty of scope for improvement and the veteran Documenting is still capable in this grade on his day.
BILLYJOH has acquitted himself with plenty of credit in competitive big-field handicaps on turf in recent months, not finding the gaps appearing in time when midfield in last month's Ayr Gold Cup. Boasting a positive profile on synthetics and still lightly raced at 7f, he could be the answer. This is competitive though, with Paborus, Zero Carbon and Cloud Cover others holding sound claims. Haydock-scorer Persuasion is another in the mix.
A good handicap in which the vote goes to BILLYJOH, who has a good track record and is only 1lb higher than when second at Royal Ascot.

1st (10) (10/3 +52%) Snash |
10/3(+52%) | (10) Snash 10/3, Course winner. 9/1, respectable fourth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 14 days ago. Return to class 5 company looks in his favour and the assessor continues to relinquish his grip. Not far away on last four outings (three of those at 7f) so has a place chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (13/2 +7%) Bicep |
13/2(+7%) | (3) Bicep 13/2, Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. 6/1, respectable fifth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (8f) 13 days ago, seemingly stretched by the trip returned to a stiffer track. No surprise to see a better showing returned to 7f. Second on last two visits here; each-way claims with return to 7f likely to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/1 +0%) Airshow |
10/1(+0%) | (1) Airshow 10/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Salisbury in August. 6½ lengths eighth of 11 to Embarked in handicap (11/2) at this C&D 18 days ago, racing closer to pace than ideal. Likely type to bounce back. 9yo; highly competitive sequence prior to a disappointing show over C&D on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (10/1 +60%) King Of York |
10/1(+60%) | (12) King Of York 10/1, C&D winner. Seventh of 8 in handicap at this course (8.1f, 28/1) 18 days ago. Yard look to hold stronger claims with Embarked. C&D winner in February and March during consistent spell; not in the same form since April. |

5th (4) (11/2 +21%) Bella Taslina |
11/2(+21%) | (4) Bella Taslina 11/2, 33/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, respectable sixth of 16 in handicap at Newbury (7f, good to firm) 49 days ago. Drop back down in grade likely in her favour. Won handicap debut at Doncaster (7f) in July; hasn't lived up to that in three runs since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (9/1 -100%) Embarked |
9/1(-100%) | (6) Embarked 9/1, Won 11-runner handicap (13/2) at this C&D 18 days ago, value for extra having been the only one at the finish who had raced up with the strong pace. Shortlisted in follow-up bid from 3 lb higher mark. Hung on by a nose when making all from stall 1 over C&D 18 days ago; back up 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (50/1 -317%) Heretic |
50/1(-317%) | (5) Heretic 50/1, Lightly raced 5-y-o who made final start for Hugo Palmer a winning one at Newcastle (1m) in January 2023. Changed hands for 10,000 gns a month later and the betting can prove an informative guide on belated return/following wind surgery. Won handicap debut at Newcastle (1m) in January 2023; 10,000gns buy; wind op that November. |

8th (9) (20/1 -43%) Makalu |
20/1(-43%) | (9) Makalu 20/1, Course winner. 4 wins from 13 runs this year. Seventh of 11 in handicap (9/1) at Hamilton (8.3f, good to soft) 17 days ago, left with too much to do. Enters calculations. Four wins this season; form has dipped on last two outings but he is not dismissed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (22/1 -83%) Forever A Diamond |
22/1(-83%) | (11) Forever A Diamond 22/1, Respectable sixth of 11 in handicap (11/2) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 24 days ago, forced wide home turn and running on. Comes here operating 3 lb below last winning mark and she's one to consider. Close third at Kempton (in first-time blinkers, kept since) two runs back; none too solid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (25/1 0%) Rob's Umberella |
25/1(0%) | (2) Rob's Umberella 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Off 7 months/gelded, offered little when last of 11 in handicap (125/1) at Catterick (7f, soft) 15 days ago. Return to tapeta needs to have positive effect now. Absent 221 days (gelded) before tailing off so badly on handicap/turf debut (7f, soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (5/1 +9%) Highland Olly |
5/1(+9%) | (7) Highland Olly 5/1, Winner at Musselburgh in August. Respectable third of 8 in handicap at Catterick (7f, good to soft, 3/1) 37 days ago, keeping on final 1f. Can give another good account returned to AW. Won at Musselburgh in August; only one AW run (June) and may well need a career best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) (17/2 +58%) Only In Jakarta |
17/2(+58%) | (8) Only In Jakarta 17/2, Last of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f, 16/1) 37 days ago, weakening when hampered over 1f out. Needs to bounce back. Won a novice at Newcastle (7f, AW) in January but sparked in only one of six starts since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Embarked showed a likeable attitude when making all over C&D last month and, upped 3lb, another bold bid looks likely. That said, SNASH is narrowly preferred. Tim Easterby's charge caught the eye when making headway from off the pace to finish fourth over 6f in a deeper race than this at Newcastle earlier in the month. Eased 1lb and stepping back up to 7f, this might be the time to catch him. Heretic scored on his handicap debut for Hugo Palmer when last seen in January 2023 and is interesting on his return.
EMBARKED did best of those who had raced up with the strong pace when successful over C&D 18 days ago and a 3 lb rise should see him competitive again. Forever A Diamond and Grant Tuer's pair Bicep and Highland Olly are others to consider. Heretic on belated return for his new yard also commands a market check for positive vibes.
Tricky. Embarked and Airshow are shortlisted but today's return to 7f and Southwell could enable BICEP to emerge on top.

1st (9) (9/2 +72%) St Pancras |
9/2(+72%) | (9) St Pancras 9/2, Winner at Pontefract in July. 11/1, tenth of 11 in handicap at Salisbury (14.2f, good to soft) 14 days ago. Makes tapeta debut and he may find one or two too good. Flop on heavy last time; AW debut but this lightly raced 3yo may still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/1 +25%) Caustic |
6/1(+25%) | (2) Caustic 6/1, Sixth of 9 in handicap (5/1) at Epsom (10.1f, good) 52 days ago, inadequate test. Significantly back up in trip and it would be no surprise at all were he to take a hand in the finish. More to prove over new trip but he started off in bumpers and it may well be manageable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7/2 +13%) Boldly |
7/2(+13%) | (6) Boldly 7/2, Creditable fourth of 11 in handicap (11/1) at this course (16.5f) 49 days ago. Now tried in blinkers and he will have every chance if he puts his best foot forward. 0-10 but made the frame seven times, including in five of six AW starts; headgear switch. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (15/2 +17%) Sharp Distinction |
15/2(+17%) | (8) Sharp Distinction 15/2, 25/1, creditable second of 6 in handicap at this course (16.5f) 18 days ago. Back down to last winning mark and he's not discounted. Wind surgery before returning to some form when second of six here (2m) on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (6/1 +14%) Kitsune Power |
6/1(+14%) | (5) Kitsune Power 6/1, Latest win at Thirsk in June. 13/2, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Ayr (13.1f, good to firm) 26 days ago. Should make his presence felt. More to prove on 1m6f run on Wolverhampton Tapeta (his second AW race) three starts back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (16/1 -88%) Saratoga Gold |
16/1(-88%) | (1) Saratoga Gold 16/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2023. 15/2, fourth of 7 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 14 days ago. Mark continues to slide and he's an each-way player. Pretty solid sequence; over a year since he raced at this far but he won over 1m6f in 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (20/1 -300%) Sonnerie Power |
20/1(-300%) | (3) Sonnerie Power 20/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. Good second of 13 in handicap at Kempton (11f, 11/1) 22 days ago. Back up in trip. Knocking firmly on the door of late and he merits respect. Yard also saddles Le Rouge Chinois. Bang there at 1m4f/1m3f lately but sole attempt at this trip (last November) did not work. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (9/2 +36%) Le Rouge Chinois |
9/2(+36%) | (7) Le Rouge Chinois 9/2, Latest win at Nottingham in June. Creditable second of 7 in handicap at Chelmsford City (14f, 4/1) 28 days ago. Still, he looks vulnerable for win purposes. Two wins this year; good second at Chelmsford (1m6f) latest and probably effective here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (18/1 -50%) Prince Maxi |
18/1(-50%) | (4) Prince Maxi 18/1, Fifth of 6 in handicap (20/1) at Yarmouth (14.1f, good to firm) 28 days ago. Edging down the weights but he needs to get back on track. Ran fairly well both outings for new yard; made an awkward start when trying 1m6f latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SONNERIE POWER has shaped with plenty of promise in second on his last three starts and, stepping back up to 1m6f, the son of Almanzor gets the nod to return to winning ways. Le Rouge Chinois was last seen finishing second behind an in-form rival over this trip at Chelmsford last month and a 1lb rise shouldn't prevent another bold bid. The class-dropping Kitsune Power completes the shortlist.
This step back up in trip will suit CAUSTIC, who found things happening too quickly over 1¼m at Epsom last time and he gets the nod in this open-looking handicap. Boldly may well emerge as the main danger, provided he responds positively to the first-time blinkers, while Sharp Distinction is just about third choice ahead of Sonnerie Power, who has been knocking on the door of late.
Each-way cases can be made for all of them. A chance is taken on two of the less exposed candidates in CAUSTIC and St Pancras.

1st (3) (5/1 -67%) Caramay |
5/1(-67%) | (3) Caramay 5/1, Two wins from 5 runs this year. Career best when winning 12-runner handicap (12/1) at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 42 days ago by 1¼ lengths from Storm Asset, suited by way race developed. 4lb rise fair but this looks tougher. Carries head bit high but won first and latest starts this term; not proven over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (15/2 +6%) Bay Of Naples |
15/2(+6%) | (9) Bay Of Naples 15/2, C&D winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. 11/1, creditable fourth of 8 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 20 days ago. Place possibilities. Made the frame at Wolverhampton on last three outings, so has solid each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (8/1 -14%) Storm Asset |
8/1(-14%) | (11) Storm Asset 8/1, Eighteen runs since last win in 2023. Visored for 1st time, creditable third of 11 in handicap (14/1) at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 17 days ago, faring best of those held up. Up in trip and he shouldn't be far away. 2024 placings on Tapeta put him into calculations despite his being unraced beyond 1m2f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (8/1 +11%) Jimmy Mark |
8/1(+11%) | (5) Jimmy Mark 8/1, Latest win at Ffos Las in July. 9/2, below form eighth of 13 in handicap at Bath (10.2f, soft) 16 days ago. Makes tapeta debut and each-way chance if handling the surface. Close up in his only AW race, last October; unraced beyond 1m2f but needs a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (5/1 +50%) Chagall |
5/1(+50%) | (6) Chagall 5/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2023. 22/1, last of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 24 days ago. Back up in trip and he's another who is dangerous to discount having been given a chance by the handicapper. 6-41 on AW, with all the wins on Polytrack but he's too far down weights to be ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (9/1 -13%) My Brother Mike |
9/1(-13%) | (2) My Brother Mike 9/1, Course winner. Creditable sixth of 11 in handicap at Bath (10.2f, good to firm, 8/1) 32 days ago, never nearer. Can make presence felt. 1m race here in March saw him break a long losing run; needs to better his recent efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (12/1 -33%) Bond Spirit |
12/1(-33%) | (8) Bond Spirit 12/1, Course winner. Latest win at Bath in May. 13/2, fifth of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 30 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. Others more persuasive. Won twice over 1m4f here in first half of 2023; ran creditably at Bath penultimate start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (9/1 +0%) Lednikov |
9/1(+0%) | (10) Lednikov 9/1, C&D winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. Good sixth of 12 in handicap (33/1) at this C&D 7 days ago, faring best of those held up. Not without each-way hope. Won twice here late in 2022; beaten just 2l under Elle-May Croot over C&D last Thursday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (33/1 -106%) Total Lockdown |
33/1(-106%) | (7) Total Lockdown 33/1, Unreliable sort. 4/1, respectable sixth of 10 in handicap at Brighton (11.9f, good to soft) 9 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Likely to find a few of these too good. Quirky sort with a 2-34 strike-rate; three runs for new yard and needs to better those. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (4/1 +43%) Olympicus |
4/1(+43%) | (1) Olympicus 4/1, Eighth of 12 in handicap at this C&D (13/2) 7 days ago, slowly away. Continues to slide down the weights and he's therefore dangerous to discount. No impact in six starts this term, albeit not beaten far on latest; not proven on AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (100/1 -52%) Riffa Fort |
100/1(-52%) | (4) Riffa Fort 100/1, Eleventh of 12 in handicap at Redcar (14f, good to firm, 66/1). Off 14 months (gelded in the interim) and he can only be watched for now. Seven-race maiden who's gone downhill, unraced since August 2023; gelded since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
CARAMAY (first) was doing her best work late on when getting the better of Storm Asset (second) over an extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton last month and, although the latter is 2lb better off at the weights this time, it is hard to envisage him reversing that form over this longer trip. Bay Of Naples wasn't disgraced when finishing fourth over 1m4f at Dunstall Park last time out and must also enter calculations.
Though below par of late, CHAGALL could be worth chancing in this wide-open contest. He is now 7 lb below his last winning mark and shades preference ahead of My Brother Mike and Storm Asset. Last-time-out Wolverhampton scorer Caramay has more on his plate here and is probably worth taking on this time.
Caramay has a major chance. Plenty of others bring each-way interest, however, and BOND SPIRIT is narrowly preferred.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
