LTO Selection:

16:15 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

PREMIERSHIP has done very well since joining the Michael Wigham yard and dropping back in trip looks like the correct move, having won over this distance at Yarmouth on his penultimate outing. The four-year-old remains on a workable mark and he could have too much for Meng Tian and Amathus, who has won two of his last three starts. Others to note include Kalamunda, Lowick and Tacitus.

PREMIERSHIP shaped as if still in good form when stretched by the longer trip at Ripon and remains of interest back at a more suitable distance. Kalamunda has improved since switched to handicaps and is next best ahead of Meng Tian.

The choice is MENG TIAN who ran his best race for a while when third of 12 over C&D 12 days ago.

LTO Selection:

16:50 Southwell Maiden (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

RUN FOR THE SUN has shown more than enough in both career outings to suggest that she can get off the mark now, with the step up in trip expected to eke out further improvement. Cloudy Skye disappointed last time out but she had gone well prior to that, while Shakeela ran with credit on her racecourse bow at Doncaster. A costly purchase at the sales and closely related to a couple of smart sorts, Battle Queen looks to be the pick of the newcomers.

RUN FOR THE SUN gets the vote with 7f promising to suit her but a strong market move for well-bred newcomers Battle Queen and/or Completed would put a slightly different slant on things. Cloudy Skye got stuck in the mud last time but showed promise prior to that and also merits respect.

It may be worth siding with CLOUDY SKYE who has shown ability and whose half-brother won twice over this C&D earlier in the year.

LTO Selection:

17:25 Southwell Maiden (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A well-bred sort by Invincible Spirit who cost a pretty penny at the sales, SPINTO SOPRANO went well for a long way before fading late on her debut at Salisbury last month. Plenty of improvement is expected on that effort and she can break the maiden at the main expense of Elegant Friend and Salamanca City, who didn't do herself any favours when slowly away at Kempton before running on late for fourth.

SPINTO SOPRANO looked in need of the experience when fifth behind her better-fancied stablemate Skellet in a useful-looking Salisbury maiden on debut last month. She will be more street-wise this time and is taken to add to the Ralph Beckett yard's impressive haul of 2-y-o winners in 2023. Salamanca City and Elegant Friend are likely improvers too, and are feared most in that order of preference, while newcomers Secret World and Stars Away are both appealing on paper.

The vote goes to SPINTO SOPRANO who has a nice pedigree and the form of her Salisbury debut has since been boosted.

18:00 Southwell Stakes (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

VULTAR sets the bar quite high based on the official ratings and could be hard to beat if he runs true to his opening mark of 83. He finished a close third behind a couple of useful looking fillies at Kempton last time and, with the winner of that race subsequently allotted a figure of 90, the hint is too big to ignore. Summer Of Love ran green on debut but is entitled to be wiser now, while well-bred newcomers Souffionne and Dolce Courage both warrant betting checks.

Clear form pick VULTAR was left poorly placed after a tardy start when beaten favourite in a similar event at Kempton 3 weeks ago and is worth another chance. Summer of Love made an eye-catching debut at Kempton so rates the main threat, though well-connected newcomer Dolce Courage needs keeping an eye on.

This can go to VULTAR who has shown promise in all three starts and should be suited by the return to 7f.

LTO Selection:

18:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

CLUB MANAGER, a half-brother to useful hurdler Taglietelle, has flourished since being upped in trip and, having finished full of running when winning over two miles at Nottingham last week, he is a live contender for further success under a 6lb penalty. Papa Ricco got up late over 1m6f here last month and can go well off 2lb higher, with the additional yardage not expected to be a problem. Wannabe Brave is also considered off 7lb lower than his last winning mark.

The well-related CLUB MANAGER improved for the step up to 2m when scoring in cosy fashion at Nottingham recently and, with the promise of better to come from him at this trip, he is taken to follow up under a penalty. Wannabe Brave is 7 lb below the mark off which he gained his breakthrough success at Kempton last November and looks a threat on the back of a creditable third at the same course, while Ship To Shore and Papa Ricco can do battle for minor honours.

It was no surprise to see the well-bred CLUB MANAGER appreciate the step up to 2m at Nottingham and he's taken to defy a penalty.

LTO Selection:

19:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Noteable is still low mileage and, having shown improvement since undergoing wind surgery in May, she could have more to offer. However, a drawn in stall 10 is a disadvantage and she also looks vulnerable under top-weight. With that in mind, previous C&D winner CONGRESS shades the vote. Jonny Peate got a good tune out of the selection when a close second at Newcastle last month and, off just 1lb higher, the three-year-old can go one place better here. The in-form Flavius Titus is another to consider.

ANGEL AMADEA caught the eye when finishing with running left back from a break at Newcastle 11 days ago and she's one to be interested in again now. Flavius Titus and Malinheadsearovers head the dangers.

Billian should be sharper for his recent return but he may have to give best to the well-treated COAXING (nap).

LTO Selection:

19:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

ZING UP gained her first career victory at Lingfield last month following a string of consistent efforts and Tom Ward's filly, who was only making her fourth start on the all-weather, could have more to offer, despite a 3lb rise. Enchanted Night caught the eye when runner-up at Nottingham on Wednesday and she is respected along with Mehmo, who is 1lb lower than his last win at Beverley in July.

Perhaps MEHMO is in a consistent run of form- and can land another C&D win. Stallone is another who knows where the winning post is over C&D and is second choice ahead of recent Lingfield scorer Zing Up.

Mehmo should give it another good go but STALLONE is preferred as he bids for a third AW win of the year.

20:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

RODBOROUGH scored twice over C&D before filling the runner-up spot at Newcastle when going in search of a hat-trick. The return to this venue gives the daughter of Mayson an excellent opportunity to strike once again. Profitable Edge has been running consistently well this season and a drop in grade can aid her cause following her most recent effort at York. Starstriker is feared most of the remainder.

Perhaps STARSTRIKER simply found her latest below-form third coming too soon after her good comeback second at Windsor 16 days earlier and she's given another chance now handicapping after a short break. Rodborough arrives at the top of her game and rates an obvious danger. Profitable Edge has made a good start for the Barrons and should also have a part to play if taking to this new surface.

Rodborough is still improving and needs serious consideration but PROFITABLE EDGE can capitalise on today's drop in class.

20:30 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Lord Torranaga continues to hold his form well and another bold bid is expected. However, he is likely to be vulnerable for win purposes and the vote, therefore, goes to BLUE HAWAII. A winner when last seen on the level at Nottingham in May, the eight-year-old tasted defeat over hurdles soon after that success, but she has since been freshened up and may pick up where she left off in this sphere. Black Smoke and Spring Glow appeal most of the remainder.

LEDNIKOV is now rated lower than when scoring twice over C&D at the end of 2022 and might be worth siding with to resume winning ways back on AW after a decent run on turf last week. Lord Torranaga has been knocking on the door lately and rates an obvious danger. Oriental Art has proved expensive to follow but is more than capable of making an impact now dropping into a 0-60 for the first time.

The choice is SPRING GLOW who must have a solid chance if able to replicate his third of 14 from 2lb higher over C&D in August.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.

Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
