16:42 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

HAVOCK has to shoulder top-weight for the Skelton team, but caught the eye on his chasing debut at Ffos Las when running well for a long way to finish fifth. Dropped 3lb by the handicapper and upped a furlong, he is entitled to find this company more to his liking. Cokytho has some solid placed form to his name and could be interesting if recent wind surgery brings improvement, while Fast Deal won over further last month and won't be stopping late on.

HAVOCK took a step back in the right direction sent chasing at Ffos Las 2 weeks ago so makes the most appeal down in class in a weak event. Cokytho should be in the mix again, while it's still early days for the unexposed Lord Denning.

It's hard to trust any of these. A chance is taken on HIGHWAY ONE O FOUR who is bred for this new discipline.

17:12 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Taste The Fear could prove popular here after his C&D success last month, but he won by less than a length that day and an added 4lb from the handicapper looks prohibitive. ERNEST GRAY has also been successful over this C&D and was a length second at Doncaster in March. With the going ideal, he can go well for the in-form Alan King yard, while Minella Double is only six and may have more to offer.

TASTE THE FEAR was perked up no end by the fitting of blinkers when cashing in off his much-reduced mark over C&D 2 weeks ago. With his rider's claim off setting his rise in weights, he looks a live player again provided the headgear has the desired effect once more. Son of The Somme, back up in trip, and Ernest Gray are others to consider.

Ernest Gray is perhaps the most solid of these but SON OF THE SOMME made a good start for Toby Lawes at Newbury.

17:42 Southwell NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Briery Bee might be the obvious pick after her second at Fakenham last month when beaten less than a length at the line. Roaring Home is another to consider seriously, but a chance is taken on GALE MAHLER. Sent off favourite on her Sedgefield debut, she had to be switched for a run a furlong out, and again close home, so was possibly an unlucky loser.

A few in with a squeak but the vote goes to ASIAN STAR, who would have likely gone close had things broken better for her at Cheltenham last month. With improvement on the cards, she can get the better of Gale Mahler, who was well backed and made a promising start when finishing a close fourth at Sedgefield 8 weeks ago. Debutantes Marco's Light and Wilmcote are worth keeping a close eye on, too.

Dan Skelton's ASIAN STAR was just getting up a head of steam when stopped in her tracks on the run-in at Cheltenham.

18:12 Southwell NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

EITHER WAY was second on her only start between the flags in Ireland and it would be no surprise to see the five-year-old make a winning Rules debut here. Yesanna cost 88,000 pounds as a store and she is closely related to plenty of winners, including the Grade 3-placed hurdler Tedham. Barrabool and Made For Me are the pick of those with racecourse experience but could be vulnerable.

EITHER WAY finished second in a point and has been picked up by Nicky Henderson since, so she looks the obvious way to go in a race where the bar isn't set very high. Yesanna is a notable newcomer on paper and Made For Me should step up on her Rules debut.

Either Way is an obvious one but YESANNA didn't come cheap at the sales and her dam was a dual bumper winner.

18:42 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

In a moderate event it is hard to oppose ASCENSION DAY, who was second in maiden hurdle over C&D a month ago, albeit well held. A reproduction of that form would give him a big chance on his handicap debut here. Mersey Street was not disgraced at Taunton last time and may have more to offer, while similar comments apply to Marrakushi.

The suggestion is the O'Neill stable handicap newcomer MERSEY STREET, with confidence in his chance increased should the betting vibes be strong. Chemical Welfare is a potentially dangerous opponent on his first outing for David Pipe and is another for whom market strength could prove significant. Handicap newcomers Marrakushi and Ascension Day are others who could have a say.

He's been off for 105 days but MARRAKUSHI has shown enough in two non-handicaps for this yard to believe he might not be on a bad mark.

19:12 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Therapist has yet to show her Flat form over hurdles but cannot be discounted on her first start in a handicap. That said, preference is for ORBYS RIVER, who has filled second place off this mark on two of her last three starts and this appears to be an ideal opportunity to go one better. Others to note are Common Acclaim, Illucidate and Duneomeno.

Tricky stuff with JUMPING JUPITER chanced on his first start for Mark Walford having been placed twice here for his previous trainer. Therapist could be well ahead of her mark now handicapping in this sphere for Nicky Henderson, while Orbys River can win a race like this.

The outstanding candidate is THERAPIST (nap) who, considering her Flat ability, is potentially thrown in for her handicap debut.

19:42 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SOLAR SYSTEM scored by just over two lengths in a class 5 event at Fontwell last month and he only has a 6lb higher mark to contend with. The son of Pastorius makes only his third handicap start and he could have plenty more to offer. The main danger is Fierce Warrior, who is a bumper/maiden hurdle winner making his handicap debut off a workable mark of 110, while Allbetsoff is another to note.

Low-mileage 5-y-os SOLAR SYSTEM and Fierce Warrior could be the pair to concentrate on and preference is for the former, who settled much better in a first-time hood when scoring in good style at Fontwell and neither this 6 lb higher mark nor the step back up in trip are likely to be an issue. It's best to draw a line through Fierce Warrior's latest effort given that his yard was enduring a torrid time of things at that point and he is clear second choice ahead of Pozo Emery and Allbetsoff.

The 5yo SOLAR SYSTEM settled better in the hood at Fontwell and he duly produced a much-improved performance. He can go in again.

20:12 Southwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Point-to-point winner Eaton Anne changed hands for 25,000 pounds in December and it would be no surprise to see him get involved on his debut for the in-form Olly Murphy team. However, the vote goes to NEW ORDER, who was a long way clear of the third when second at Market Rasen last month, despite jumping left throughout. Charlie Longsdon's six-year-old may benefit from this left-handed track and he should have no issues with this drop in distance, while any market confidence behind Mostly Sunny would also be interesting.

Olly Murphy has his string in good order and saddles an appealing type here in EATON ANNE, who landed a maiden point towards the end of last year and it will look significant if the market speaks in his favour ahead of this Rules debut. New Order is much the best of those with experience over hurdles and will be a big threat if coping with this drop in trip, while Mostly Sunny, a three-time winner on the Flat, has to enter calculations on debut in this sphere for the Dan Skelton yard.

Dan Skelton's MOSTLY SUNNY was pretty decent on his day on the Flat and could easily be the answer to this modest contest.
