14:05 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A game winner over this trip at Wolverhampton last month, Cuban Grey can have another big say in proceedings on his return to handicapping. That said, CAESARS PEARL was only narrowly denied in maiden territory on her most recent run and commands respect on her handicap debut. She is well related and cannot be ignored, while Just A Spark and Wreck It Ryley add further spice to the mix.

CUBAN GREY reacted well to headgear when seeing off a next-time-out winner at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago and, now back in a handicap from an attractive mark, he's just about the most persuasive option, This is competitive, with Just A Spark, Erosion Risk and Wreck It Ryley a trio of dangers.

It was all pretty straightforward for JUST A SPARK (nap) at Wolverhampton and this progressive filly can complete the hat-trick.

LTO Selection:

14:40 Southwell Stakes (Class 5) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Racecourse experience could prove to be vital when considering PART TIME BRITAIN's chances here. He drops considerably in class having been well held in the Brocklesby at Doncaster earlier this month and could be worth siding with on his all-weather debut. Stablemates Zaphea and Chumbaa look the pick of the newcomers, although Mist Of Lir and King Garwood are also noted.

YORKSHIRE TERRIER makes a good bit of appeal on paper for a top yard that enjoyed plenty of success with juvenile newcomers last season and he could be the way to go before market clues. Mist of Lir is another interesting debutant, while Tees Douge and Part Time Britain bring Brocklesby form to the table and could improve plenty a week on.

The market should be informative. SOMMELIER brings a positive pedigree and represents a yard in decent early-season form.

2/1(+20%)
(3) Star Sprite 2/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 18/1, sixth of 11 in novice at Kempton (1m) when last seen in September. Pedigree suggests this much longer trip should suit her. Interesting on handicap debut.
LTO Selection:

15:15 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

STAR SPRITE steps up in trip following a seven-length defeat over a mile at Kempton in novice company when last seen in September and the daughter of Sea The Stars could be worth siding with on her return to action. Timewave has been gradually dropping in the handicap and is feared most, although Sovereign Spirit and Queenmambo cannot be completely ruled out.

STAR SPRITE is bred to come into her own now tackling middle distances and can strike on handicap debut. Charlie Johnston's Timewave may give her most to think about.

Timewave is solid but a chance is taken on STAR SPRITE, who is bred to be a whole lot better than this level.

LTO Selection:

15:50 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

NA SCOITEAR is worth a try over this trip having kept on well in the closing stages over 7f at Newcastle 26 days ago. The Phillip Makin-trained gelding was supported in the betting that day and stepping into a maiden handicap from the same mark is a potentially good move. Leap Year Lad has run respectably since being gelded and is another with strong appeal, while Capofan and Indication Rocket also have the ability to go well.

LEAP YEAR LAD has looked a tricky customer, but he went as close as he ever has to winning at Newcastle last month, and with this contest unlikely to take much winning, Kevin Ryan's charge gets the verdict back in headgear. This trip should be right up Na Scoitear's street so he may emerge as the main danger, with Storyinthesand another who needs considering.

Preference is for LEAP YEAR LAD, who was unlucky first time out this season and then bumped into an improver.

16:25 Southwell Stakes (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Global Effort is interesting on these terms and is respected on debut for a new yard, while One Of Our Own, who has been placed five times over this trip, should be on the premises as she gets weight from all bar one of her rivals. Nevertheless, BRYCE is less exposed and, given there are all-weather winners in his pedigree, he could be good value to make a smooth transition to racing on a synthetic surface.

MOUNTAIN WARRIOR shaped well on debut and, while disappointing next time out, he's worth another chance to open his account having been gelded since last seen 8 months ago. Della was green first time out and might prove a different proposition and One of Our Own should give a good account of herself.

Perhaps the most interesting one is MOUNTAIN WARRIOR, a half-brother to three useful winners and open to improvement now gelded.

17:00 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A winner of his last two starts over C&D, BLACKJACK has put together an excellent record around here and his most recent close call at Chelmsford suggests that he is still very much in form. Fellow C&D winner Em Jay Kay has ground to find with the selection but must enter calculations, alongside the determined Kempton winner Dark Side Thunder.

A case can be made for all of these but AIRSHOW still looks handily weighted despite taking a 3 lb rise for his recent course win so gets the nod. Churchill Bay has quickly got back on track since joining Ronald Thompson and is feared most ahead of C&D winners Dark Side Thunder, Blackjack and Em Jay Kay.

There are grounds for thinking that DARK SIDE THUNDER can take another step up the ladder back here following his recent Kempton win.

LTO Selection:

17:35 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

A convincing winner over C&D last month, LORD CHERRY must hold every chance of following up now returned to handicap company. Stuart Williams' charge can make it three wins from his last five starts at the main expense of the consistent Written Broadcast and Kodebreaker, who won well over further here last time out. Others to note include Back From Dubai, Elladora and Stallone.

WRITTEN BROADCAST really has thrived on his racing this year and might be good for another win. Elladora made a good return to action at Newcastle recently and is feared most ahead of Lord Cherry, who boasts a 2-2 C&D record.

Plenty to consider but KODEBREAKER did well to overcome trouble in running here last week and his new mark is very manageable.
