1st (3) (9/2 +25%) Rostello |
9/2(+25%) | (3) Rostello 9/2, Looked awkward when resuming winning ways over fences at Hexham in November. Mixed bag over fences next 2 starts but he did run up to best when second back over hurdles at Bangor 923f) 12 days ago. However, possible he'll find a couple too good back over fences. Good run back hurdling last time; rated higher over fences but should be a factor. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 -29%) Ali Star Bert |
9/4(-29%) | (2) Ali Star Bert 9/4, Scored 3 times over fences since November (twice over C&D) and left impression he was still in top form prior to unseating 5 out (yet to be asked for effort) at Haydock (28.4f) 2 weeks ago. Remains one to be interested in. Dual course winner; essentially a progressive 8yo at the top of his game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (13/2 +35%) Alkopop |
13/2(+35%) | (5) Alkopop 13/2, Veteran hurdles/chase winner who didn't fire in this sphere last term, beaten some way out when fifth of 10 in handicap at Ffos Las (25.2f) this time last year. Handicapper has afforded him a chance if a break has had positive effect ahead of this. Out of sorts when last seen a year ago but he's dangerously well handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (5/4 +23%) Galway Mahler |
5/4(+23%) | (4) Galway Mahler 5/4, Uninspiring record over hurdles but much more like it over fences, showing further progress when completing hat-trick at Huntingdon (23.6f, soft) 3 weeks ago, making all and eased down final 50 yds. Assessor applies further pressure but unlikely he's reached his limit yet. Up 11lb for bringing up the hat-trick but it was pretty easy; far from exposed.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Ali Star Bert was in the process of running another excellent race when unseating Jack Quinlan at Haydock last month, and he appears to hold every chance from an unchanged mark. However, GALWAY MAHLER has turned a corner of late, winning three on the bounce with the latest of those an emphatic success at Huntingdon. A subsequent 11lb rise will ask more of him, but he is still lightly raced over the larger obstacles and might be up to the challenge. Rostello heads the remainder.
A 3-time winner over fences since November (twice over C&D), ALI STAR BERT had yet to be asked for his effort when unseating 5 out at Haydock 2 weeks ago and he remains one to be interested in from his revised mark. Galway Mahler continues to thrive over larger obstacles and he's a big threat despite a career-high mark. Minella Double may show the benefit of his chase debut effort last month with blinkers now enlisted.
After only 12 races GALWAY MAHLER (nap) remains thoroughly unexposed and the outcome was never in doubt last time at Huntingdon.

1st (3) (10/3 +5%) Clonakilty |
10/3(+5%) | (3) Clonakilty 10/3, Scored over hurdles at Uttoxeter last season and also won easily in this sphere in 2m4f handicap at Lingfield in February. Remote second of 4 at Leicester (20.1f) 27 days ago. Worth another chance with cheekpieces added. Lingfield winner who was well beaten next time; still of interest in new cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/10 +60%) Imperial Bede |
11/10(+60%) | (1) Imperial Bede 11/10, French bumper/hurdles winner who run out a ready winner on chase debut over C&D. Good fourth of 8 in handicap chase at Sandown (20f, good to soft) 26 days ago. Remains less exposed than most. C&D winner and his latest fourth at Sandown was in a higher grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (15/8 +46%) Noche Negra |
15/8(+46%) | (4) Noche Negra 15/8, C&D winner in February but only third of 4 in handicap chase at Leicester (15.9f, heavy) 27 days ago. Back up in trip with cheekpieces refitted and not written off. Beaten over 2m last time and this is more his trip, having won over C&D; good jumper. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
NOCHE NEGRA didn't appear to be suited by a drop to 2m when going in search of his hat-trick 27 days ago but Laura Morgan's charge, a full-brother to the classy Nube Negra and a C&D winner on his penultimate start, can resume his progress returned to further. Glencassley returned from almost a year off the track to make a winning chase debut at Hereford 26 days ago and he is the main danger with improvement likely, while Imperial Bede must be respected now eased in class.
None of these can be ruled out but the vote goes to GLENCASSLEY who impressed when going in at the first time of asking over fences at Hereford and can make light of a 3 lb weights rise. Clonakilty could emerge as the chief threat ahead of in-form pair Imperial Bede and Eyed.
A tight contest in which all five have a chance. IMPERIAL BEDE wasn't disgraced in a higher grade at Sandown.

Blue Las |
(2) (3/1 +0%)3/1(+0%) | (2) Blue Las 3/1, Bred to stay well and, while he showed something to work on in a bumper at Huntingdon 56 days ago, there's more required if he's to seriously feature. 4th against the boys at Huntingdon and there's substance to that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Made For Me |
(4) (10/3 +33%)10/3(+33%) | (4) Made For Me 10/3, £35,000 4-y-o, Malinas mare. Dam unraced half-sister to smart hurdler/chaser (stayed 2½m) Made In Taipan and fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 25f) Made In Time. Runner-up completed start in Irish points (Mar 2023). Makes plenty of appeal on paper. Bought for £35,000 after finishing runner-up in an Irish point last March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Last Drop |
(6) (4/1 +0%)4/1(+0%) | (6) The Last Drop 4/1, Improved from debut when runner-up in an 8-runner bumper at Tramore 4 months ago. Has joined a new yard since and sets a reasonable standard. Ran well in both her Irish bumpers; latest form can be questioned but has ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carrig Kate |
(3) (9/2 +40%)9/2(+40%) | (3) Carrig Kate 9/2, £45,000 5-y-o, Westerner mare. Half-sister to 3 winners, including useful 2½m hurdle winner Carrig Sam and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Carrig Rock. Successful on last of 4 starts in Irish points (Mar 2023): Easy winner of a Portrush point (3m, soft/heavy) last March and then purchased for £45,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Shantwopointfive |
(5) (9/2 -13%)9/2(-13%) | (5) Shantwopointfive 9/2, £30,000 5-y-o, Shantou mare. Sister to fairly useful 19f hurdle winner/useful 3m chase winner Super Survivor and half-sister to a point winner. Won sole start in Irish points (Oct 2023), so deserves plenty of respect. £30,000 purchase after winning an Irish point; that form hasn't worked out that well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kuma Beach |
(8) (14/1 -17%)14/1(-17%) | (8) Kuma Beach 14/1, Jack Hobbs filly. Dam, French 2¼m hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to useful hurdler/staying chaser (Welsh Grand National winner) Raz de Maree. Worthy of respect. Dam French 2m1f chase/2m2f hurdle winner from family of a Wesh National winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hot Goddess |
(7) (66/1 -100%)66/1(-100%) | (7) Hot Goddess 66/1, Little encouragement at Kempton on debut and looks up against it. 33-1 when beaten a long way at Kempton after racing freely; others have shown more. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
An open contest in which only a tentative vote can go to SHANTWOPOINTFIVE. Warren Greatrex's point winner, a full-sister to the useful Super Survivor, was picked up for 30,000 pounds at the sales in November and, given her trainer's record in similar events, it would come as no surprise were she to make an immediate impact. The Last Drop hit the woodwork in a Galway bumper last time out and holds leading form claims, while market support should be noted for the Tom Lacey-trained Walkingtheline.
MADE FOR ME was runner-up in a point and her new yard should have her well prepared for this, so she gets the nod over The Last Drop, who found one too good at Tramore when last seen for different connections. Carrig Kate has scored between the flags and represents an in-form yard, so he's also worthy of consideration.
There was a lot to like about the debut effort of BLUE LAS against respected male opposition at Huntingdon and she's well bred.

Highlands Legacy |
(3) (2/5 +35%)2/5(+35%) | (3) Highlands Legacy 2/5, Placed in a pair of bumpers earlier this term and made a promising start over hurdles when second of 12 in a Wincanton maiden (15.2f, heavy). In the process of running creditably when falling heavily 2 out at Carlisle subsequently. Sets the standard. In front but pressed when falling at Carlisle; this has the look of an easier race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ascension Day |
(2) (11/2 -57%)11/2(-57%) | (2) Ascension Day 11/2, Looked all set to record a big-priced debut win under Rules only to career off the course late on at Worcester last summer. Disappointed at Cheltenham 6 months later but shaped better than the distance beaten suggests when third at this course (20.4f) last time. Latest third was remote; has place claims but looks vulnerable from a win perspective. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Montys Soldier |
(4) (6/1 -9%)6/1(-9%) | (4) Montys Soldier 6/1, Easy winner of sole start in Irish points. Showed promise on his only outing in bumpers for Michael Scudamore and did the same under a considerate ride when fourth on his hurdling debut at Doncaster (16.6f). Open to improvement but it'll likely be handicaps over further when he's of most interest. Tailed off at Doncaster but remains of interest on his pointing/bumper promise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Musique De Fee |
(8) (12/1 +14%)12/1(+14%) | (8) Musique De Fee 12/1, Ran to modest level both starts in bumpers and was given a considerate introduction to hurdling when fourth of 7 at Wincanton (2m5f). However, went backwards when well held at Plumpton subsequently and has since had a breathing operation. Close up in a point and bumper; has made an ordinary start hurdling (over further). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Arlo |
(1) (16/1 -60%)16/1(-60%) | (1) Arlo 16/1, Fair hurdler for Stuart Crawford and, after 18 months off, showed that he retains plenty of ability when third in a Sedgefield maiden in October. Has been disappointing since, though, running no sort of race in first-time cheekpieces at Huntingdon 18 days ago. Blinkers now the choice of headgear. 12-race maiden who needs to raise his game in the blinkers to stand a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Moor End |
(5) (33/1 +50%)33/1(+50%) | (5) Moor End 33/1, Showed a bit when third in his sole outing in bumpers but made an inauspicious start over hurdles at Hereford 26 days ago. Fell at the sixth at Hereford and his jumping had been ponderous before then. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Moves Like Monty |
(6) (66/1 -32%)66/1(-32%) | (6) Moves Like Monty 66/1, Irish point winner but has been pulled up both starts over hurdles. Irish point winner; pulled up in both his hurdles, over 3m on soft and 2m on good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Telenn D'annain |
(7) (250/1 -400%)250/1(-400%) | (7) Telenn D'annain 250/1, Well beaten in bumpers and fared no better sent hurdling at Taunton last week. Has shown little in two bumpers and a novice hurdle for which he went off at 300-1. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HIGHLANDS LEGACY bumped into a useful type when finishing second on his penultimate start, and he was similarly luckless when coming down two from home over 2m1f at Carlisle most recently. However, he has shown enough to suggest that a contest of this nature should be within his grasp. Arlo has shaped as if the application of blinkers may eke out some improvement on more than one occasion and is expected to bounce back from a subdued effort last month to emerge as the main danger. Montys Soldier made eye-catching late headway over an extended 2m at Doncaster last month and completes the shortlist.
HIGHLANDS LEGACY sets a clear standard so he's a straightforward choice to get off the mark in a weak maiden. Ascension Day is preferred to Montys Soldier for forecast purposes.
Jonjo O'Neill's HIGHLANDS LEGACY was just starting to look vulnerable when coming down at Carlisle but this could be an easier race.

Wild Side Of Life |
(2) (15/8 +0%)15/8(+0%) | (2) Wild Side Of Life 15/8, Easily opened his account in Irish points at third attempt last spring and runner-up on 2 of his 3 completed starts in novice hurdles, most recently at Sedgefield (19.8f, soft) on Boxing Day. Booking of Harry Cobden and step up in trip are both big plus points for this handicap debutant. Second in two novice hurdles (2m3f/2m4f); can improve over 3m in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Innisfree Lass |
(6) (2/1 +33%)2/1(+33%) | (6) Innisfree Lass 2/1, Looked an improved model in first-time cheekpieces when landing a 6-runner C&D mares' handicap in February. Went down narrowly in follow-up bid back here (heavy) 17 days ago, for which a 4 lb rise is fair, and another bold show anticipated. Wide-margin C&D winner in February may have bettered that form when second here last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hostile Hotelier |
(4) (6/1 -100%)6/1(-100%) | (4) Hostile Hotelier 6/1, Made a winning handicap debut over hurdles at Hexham in November. Doubled his tally back in this sphere with a tongue strap added (retained) over 20.4f on heavy going here recently and a 4 lb rise looks manageable. 2-7 over hurdles after last month's 2m4f course win; tries a new trip today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Faded Fantasy |
(5) (7/1 +22%)7/1(+22%) | (5) Faded Fantasy 7/1, Opened his account in a 20.4f maiden here last summer, but hasn't made much of an impact in handicaps since and looked a non-stayer tried over a similar trip to this at Wincanton last time. Impressive course maiden winner last June but has lost his way a bit since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barricane |
(3) (10/1 -67%)10/1(-67%) | (3) Barricane 10/1, Back to form when scoring at Uttoxeter in December and posted a career-best when striking again over 25f at Huntingdon on his penultimate start, despite racing lazily. Bad mistake at the third-last did for him at Catterick last time but could be a factor here if avoiding such mishaps. Dual hurdle winner this season but has some quirks and is not an easy one to predict. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grove Road |
(1) (16/1 -14%)16/1(-14%) | (1) Grove Road 16/1, Looked a promising stayer in the making when winning a brace of novice hurdles in late 2022. However, hasn't kicked on since and while he's now 10 lb below the mark off which he was well held in this sphere at Ludlow in January (otherwise campaigned over fences this season), he is hard to warm to. Reverts to hurdling on a very good mark but has much more to prove than some. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
In a race where few hold secrets from the handicapper, it may pay to side with the relatively unexposed WILD SIDE OF LIFE. He ran with plenty of credit when finishing second over an extended 2m3f at Sedgefield in December and can make his handicap debut a winning one off what looks a workable opening mark. Hostile Hotelier may emerge as the chief threat having been nudged up 4lb for a recent success over 2m4f here, while Innisfree Lass clearly thrives over C&D and she cannot be dismissed for the in-form Stuart Edmunds team.
With improvement likely now upped in trip for this handicap debut, WILD SIDE OF LIFE makes plenty of appeal with Harry Cobden in the hot-seat. The 6-y-o has found just one too good on both completed starts in this sphere and his opening mark looks plausible. The mare Innisfree Lass has left her previous form well behind equipped with cheekpieces over this C&D the last twice and she is greatly respected, while Hostile Hotelier is also another strong candidate.
C&D winner INNISFREE LASS has made rapid progress since cheekpieces were added in February and is taken to double her tally.

Bobbi's Beauty |
(7) (11/4 +17%)11/4(+17%) | (7) Bobbi's Beauty 11/4, Point winner who stepped up on her hurdle exploits when making a successful switch to fences at Leicester (20.1f) in February. May have found race coming too soon when disappointing at same course since and must enter calculations back over the smaller obstacles. Second on handicap hurdle debut in February and has won a chase since; may progress again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Larkfield Lusive |
(3) (10/3 +39%)10/3(+39%) | (3) Larkfield Lusive 10/3, Made the frame a couple of times for previous yard in Ireland, latest when respectable third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (21f, heavy) 65 days ago. Market may prove best guide to claims on debut for new connections. 0-8 in Ireland but signed off with two very respectable runs in the winter; stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brandt |
(1) (10/3 -11%)10/3(-11%) | (1) Brandt 10/3, Showed a bit in a couple of bumpers for Gordon Elliott and produced best effort to date for current stable when fourth in novice hurdle at Warwick (16f, heavy) in November. Longer trip should suit after a break, so he's a notable handicap debutant. Improved form when fourth in 2m Warwick novice in November; up in trip for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ismael |
(2) (9/2 -29%)9/2(-29%) | (2) Ismael 9/2, Career best when winning 11-runner handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (19.9f, heavy) in January and appeared not to stay longer trip when well held at Doncaster since. Respected. Scored on heavy ground at Uttoxeter in January; found 3m too taxing on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Saint Bibiana |
(4) (9/1 +10%)9/1(+10%) | (4) Saint Bibiana 9/1, Fair bumper winner for Kim Bailey but she hasn't shown a great deal in 3 starts switched to hurdles for new yard. Switch to handicapping may bring about improvement, though. Safely held in three maiden hurdles but might get more competitive today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Uno Mas |
(6) (12/1 -20%)12/1(-20%) | (6) Uno Mas 12/1, Five-time winner in 2021 but lightly raced since and out of sorts when making it to the track. Well beaten on all four outings this year but may yet stage a revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cosheston |
(8) (14/1 +44%)14/1(+44%) | (8) Cosheston 14/1, Long-standing maiden hurdler who shaped as if amiss when pulled up at Uttoxeter in January. Continues to fall in the weights but clearly comes with risks attached. 0-17 over hurdles; on a good mark but would appeal much more on good ground. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The step back in trip promises to suit ISMAEL, who ran well for a long way before weakening late on over an extended 3m at Doncaster last month, and off an unchanged mark, he can return to winnings ways. Bobbi's Beauty no doubt has the ability to be competitive and is likely to bounce back from being pulled up at Leicester last month, while ex-Irish recruit Larkfield Lusive also warrants respect on his stable debut.
Preference is for BRANDT, who posted his best effort over hurdles at Warwick last time and promises to be suited by this longer trip on handicap bow. Ismael and Bobbi's Beauty can also make their presence felt.
3m on heavy ground was a struggle last month but ISMAEL produced a good performance to open his account over 2m4f two starts ago.
Ths is the racecard key.

Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
