(2) Ultra Beat 3/1, First form over hurdles when third at Ffos Las last May and backed that up 5 months on switched to fences when runner-up at Bangor in October. Not all plain sailing since, but she had been well backed and was moving like the most likely winner when departing 5 out here 10 days ago. Can make amends.
Narrowly in front when unseating five out here ten days ago; could be a contender.

Narrowly denied a 4-timer at Newton Abbot the following month but found her run of good form halted when tailed off at Cartmel (25.4f, soft) when last seen in August. Makes return/chase debut.

Returns from absence with new stable in fantastic form and could improve now chasing.

14:35 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BRAVETHEWAVES arrives here having won two of his last three starts and a 3lb rise for the most recent of those wins may not be enough to stop him from following up. Martalmix'jac has been knocking on the door but could have to settle for second once again, while recent Market Rasen runner-up Jar Du Desert is the pick of the remainder.

Cases can be made for several of these but the most persuasive is for ULTRA BEAT, who was travelling like the most likely winner in front when unseating his rider 5 out here recently and Henry Daly's 7-y-o is fancied to make amends at the expense of Ghost Hunter, who looks every inch a chaser and has switched yards ahead of his return. Bravethewaves and Saint Bibiana can fight out third.

Point runner-up and chasing newcomer GHOST HUNTER returns from an absence with his new trainer Jamie Snowden in excellent form.

15:05 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TOMMY CULLEN was only narrowly denied when trying to follow up February's Doncaster success at the same venue earlier this month. A reproduction of either of those efforts would give Matt Crawley's seven-year-old a big chance in this company. The rest all have questions to answer right now, but Stringtoyourbow edges out Salley Gardens to be the pick of them.

A previous C&D winner, SALLEY GARDENS has acquitted himself well on 2 of his 4 starts over hurdles this season and, returned to larger obstacles from a workable mark, he could be worth siding with to bag this small-field affair re-united with Sean Bowen. Fellow course winner Stringtoyourbow may emerge next best, ahead of another in-form sort, Tommy Cullen.

The return to better ground could be ideal for STRINGTOYOURBOW and he is taken to add to his two wins at the end of last year.

15:35 Southwell NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SERVICE MINIMUM confirmed the promise she displayed on debut when second at Ludlow and Dan Skelton's mare is clearly the one to beat on the back of that performance. Miss Tinkerbell was well held on her racecourse bow, but is likely to improve for the experience and should not be discounted. The shortlist is completed by Rock Sensation, Harley's Pride and Misty Sunrise.

ROCK SENSATION was too keen to last home under testing conditions on her Uttoxeter debut on New Year's Eve but the strength behind her in the market on that occasion suggests she's well regarded by a good stable and she could prove a different proposition faced with a sounder surface this time. Service Minimum and Scavengers Reign have the form to figure, while Misty Sunrise is an interesting newcomer for the Olly Murphy stable.

The Dan Skelton-trained SERVICE MINIMUM has shown strong form in defeat on both starts and can get off the mark.

16:05 Southwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

KOAPEY has done little wrong in filling the runner-up spot in each of his three previous starts and can take advantage of dropping back down in class. He simply went off too quickly, failing to last home at Newbury most recently, but Sean Bowen taking over in the saddle could provide the missing ingredient. Dual bumper winner Dunskay is feared most, although Saviour has scope for progression and is dangerous to underestimate.

KOAPEY has shaped with plenty of encouragement in finishing runner-up on both starts over hurdles, and this looks an excellent opportunity to make it third time lucky. Dunskay has been underwhelming so far over hurdles considering his bumper form, but did at least show more second time up at Warwick earlier in the month and rates the main threat ahead of Saviour, who could do with settling down.

This should be a good opportunity for KOAPEY, who has bumped into some good horses when runner-up on his three starts.

16:40 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

COASTAL ROCK has won two of his four starts since joining Olly Murphy and has a good chance of enhancing his strike-rate. He had something in hand when bouncing back to form at Bangor, where he readily banished a disappointing effort at Taunton to the memory. A 5lb higher rating looks workable for the follow-up attempt. Feivel is better treated in this sphere than he is over fences and is feared most. Top-weight Tigerbythetail is the pick of the remainder.

A contest lacking in depth and numbers, and it may pay to side with FEIVEL who has slipped back down to his latest winning hurdles mark having not been seen to best effect under an overly aggressive ride last time. Dual hurdles winner Coastal Rock is the least exposed of the field and could well improve again, while Tigerbythetail has largely run with credit this season and should be in the mix again.

The lightly raced COASTAL ROCK has won two of his last three starts and can score once more. Tigerbythetail is the likely danger.

17:10 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Turned out again quickly after an easy success at Sedgefield last week, SCORSESE is likely to have plenty more improvement forthcoming and he can follow up under a 7lb penalty. Not beaten far when an untidy jump at the last cost him at Fontwell, Ivane is entitled to be thereabouts again on his second run for new connections. Sailed Away has dropped to a mark just 2lb above his last victory and cannot be ruled out with confidence.

IVANE shaped well when a clear second at Fontwell last week on his first run for the excellent James Owen and is fancied to go one better off an unchanged mark. Recent Sedgefield scorer Scorsese is feared most under a 7 lb penalty with Sailed Away, Klapton Boy and Shan't Wait all worthy of consideration too.

Preference is for IVANE, who went close on last week's stable debut at Fontwell and is due to run off 5lb higher in future handicaps.

17:40 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Now that the penny has dropped for TRAMUNTANA after a comfortable success on his handicap debut at Huntingdon last month, Olly Murphy's charge should have plenty more to come and he can double up. Narrowly denied over the same track and trip recently, Our Pink Lady must enter calculations, while Ted's Friend continues to drop in the handicap for a stable in excellent form at present.

Lots of these arrive with a question mark against them and this looks a very good opportunity for TRAMUNTANA to build on his Huntingdon victory and go 2-2 since sent handicapping. C&D winner Our Pink Lady rates much the biggest threat, with Pottersjetamay appealing as the pick of the rest for minor honours.

Bumper winner TRAMUNTANA (nap) scored on last month's handicap debut at Huntingdon and can defy a 5lb rise and follow up.
