1st (5) (5/1 +50%) Militry Decoration |
5/1(+50%) | (5) Militry Decoration 5/1, Course winner. Fifth of 8 in handicap at Kempton (12f, 11/1) 36 days ago, not ideally placed. Fairly treated if he can build on that. Close fifth at Kempton last month and last win came here; might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (18/1 -80%) Oyamal |
18/1(-80%) | (6) Oyamal 18/1, 80/1, good third of 10 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f) 21 days ago, having run of race. Up in trip. Not dismissed. Returned from layoff with good recent 3rd; this lightly raced 4yo could have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (12/1 -50%) Win Win Power |
12/1(-50%) | (2) Win Win Power 12/1, 4-time course winner. Five wins from 12 runs last year. Last of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 15/2) 28 days ago. Significantly up in trip. One to consider. Stamina the big question on first run beyond 9.4f; has an excellent record at Southwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (20/1 -43%) Lexington Hero |
20/1(-43%) | (7) Lexington Hero 20/1, 25/1, ninth of 12 in handicap at Thirsk (8f, good to soft). Off 6 months. Significantly back up in trip. Likely to need the run. Regressive on turf but has dropped down weights and return to AW could trigger revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (6/5 +0%) Tortured Soul |
6/5(+0%) | (1) Tortured Soul 6/5, Course winner. Evens, career best when landing 13-runner handicap at Kempton (12f) 8 days ago, readily. Carries penalty. Can win again. 6-7 since joining this yard, doing it cosily at Kempton last week; strong claims once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (33/1 -18%) Fandabidozi |
33/1(-18%) | (8) Fandabidozi 33/1, One win from 29 Flat runs. Twenty six runs since last win in 2020. Seventh of 9 in handicap at this course (14.1f, 22/1) 16 days ago. Has work to do. A couple of fair efforts this year but has poor strike-rate and others are more compelling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (7/2 -17%) Grigio |
7/2(-17%) | (4) Grigio 7/2, Career best when winning 7-runner handicap (6/4) at Kempton (12f) 36 days ago, getting first run. Makes tapeta debut. In top form and should go well again. Off the mark at Kempton last month and could continue to progress; respected up 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (8/1 +0%) For Pleasure |
8/1(+0%) | (3) For Pleasure 8/1, Fifth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Catterick (15.7f, soft, 5/2) 38 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Fair on the Flat, poor on last Flat run. Others preferred. Rejuvenated over hurdles in December; interesting on this first Flat run for a long time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
TORTURED SOUL is in the form of his life at present and the five-timer looks very much on the cards following another taking success at Kempton last week. Tony Carroll's charge should have too much for Grigio, who is still a leading contender after getting off the mark at the Sunbury circuit last month. Militry Decoration and Oyamal are capable of being in the shake-up as well.
TORTURED SOUL has been one of the most progressive horses on the AW this year and, having quickened to score with something in hand at Kempton 8 days ago, he's an obvious choice to extend his winning sequence to five. Grigio also arrives at the top of his game and looks the obvious threat, while Win Win Power is an interesting one upped in trip.
Winning machine TORTURED SOUL has thrived since joining Tony Carroll and can complete a five-timer, having done it cosily last time.

1st (8) (3/1 +0%) Invincible Aura |
3/1(+0%) | (8) Invincible Aura 3/1, Fair performer who ran up to best on final start at 2 yrs when third of 12 in novice event at Chelmsford (6f) in October, leading final 1f and headed late on. Gelded subsequently and returns with yard in good form. One to consider under Hollie Doyle. Promise as 2yo but expensive to follow; gelded since last seen; stamina to be proven. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +0%) Castle In The Sand |
9/4(+0%) | (2) Castle In The Sand 9/4, Lightly-raced colt. 11/8, matched previous best (fairly useful form) when second of 6 in novice event at Brighton (1m, heavy) in October, no extra final 50 yds. Sets the standard on return/AW debut and shortlisted. RPR of 82 when second on soft twice last autumn; dam useful on AW; obvious claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (5/1 -11%) Blake |
5/1(-11%) | (11) Blake 5/1, Zoffany colt who stepped up on debut run when third of 9 in a Kempton novice (1m) in October without being unduly punished. Seems to possess scope and likely he can do better again now embarking on his 3-y-o campaign. Plenty of promise in two Kempton runs last autumn (1m); strong contender on his return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (14/1 +0%) Rock City Falls |
14/1(+0%) | (6) Rock City Falls 14/1, Once-raced colt. Shaped as if in need of the experience when sixth of 12 in novice event (12/1) at Kempton (8f) on debut 22 days ago, plugging on. Should improve. Green and outpaced in the straight on last month's debut (1m, Polytrack); can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (8/1 -14%) Corrales |
8/1(-14%) | (3) Corrales 8/1, 45,000 gns yearling, Dark Angel colt. Offered plenty to work on when fourth of 13 in maiden (11/1) at Kempton (7f) on debut 32 days ago, keeping on without being knocked about. In very good hands and he looks sure to progress. Promise over 7f on last month's debut; this trip will suit and he's got more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (14/1 +0%) Spanish Vega |
14/1(+0%) | (10) Spanish Vega 14/1, Son of Phoenix of Spain who was easy to back and ran to only a modest level when ninth of 13 in novice event at Kempton (1m) on debut in December. Subsequently gelded and likelihood is he can do better for good stable. Dropped away in the straight on his Kempton debut; gelded since; others stronger today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (14/1 -100%) Memories Maker |
14/1(-100%) | (5) Memories Maker 14/1, Makes plenty of appeal on paper and shaped promisingly amidst greenness when 1 length third of 8 in maiden at Newcastle (1m) in February. Still in need of experience when fourth of 9 in a C&D maiden 26 days ago and likely he can do better again. Didn't build on promise of his Newcastle debut when 4th over C&D latest; still early days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (18/1 -29%) Time Tested |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Time Tested 18/1, Time Test colt. Half-brother to smart 1m winner Fonteyn. Dam unraced. Interesting what the market makes of him on racecourse bow. Half-brother to 1m Group 1 winner Fonteyn (RPR 116); betting to guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (28/1 -40%) Sylvan Spirit |
28/1(-40%) | (12) Sylvan Spirit 28/1, €26,000 yearling, Waldgeist filly. Dam, 1m winner who stayed 10.5f, half-sister to smart 5f-7f winner Zaidan. Betting should prove a useful guide on debut. 26,000euros yearling; dam a well-related 1m winner; market can guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (100/1 -100%) Manhattan Sunday |
100/1(-100%) | (4) Manhattan Sunday 100/1, Twice-raced gelding. Eleventh of 12 in maiden (125/1) at Newcastle (7.1f) 37 days ago, beaten when hung right under 2f out. Can only be watched. Poor form in two runs over shorter at Newcastle; handicaps beckon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (33/1 +0%) Buttertubs |
33/1(+0%) | (1) Buttertubs 33/1, €9,500 foal, €50,000 yearling, Free Eagle gelding. Half-brother to 5f/6f winner Chica Mala and 2-y-o 6f/7f winner Gloria Gentis. Dam unraced. 50,000euros yearling; half-brother to two winners in Europe; useful standard to aim at. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CASTLE IN THE SAND improved as the season went on last year and this looks like an ideal opportunity on his first start as a three-year-old. The son of New Approach sets the standard on form and is preferred to Invincible Aura and Blake, who was slightly unlucky when not getting a clear run and finishing third at Kempton back in October. Corrales and Memories Maker cannot be ruled out either.
CASTLE IN THE SAND matched his previous best (fairly useful form) when runner-up on his final start at 2 yrs at Brighton in October and he could be the one to side with on return/making his AW debut. Invincible Aura returning for the in-form Marco Botti yard, and Corrales head up the dangers. Blake rates another likely improver now embarking on his 3-y-o campaign.
Corrales can go well upped in trip but BLAKE is fancied to build on his two promising runs last autumn.

1st (8) (11/2 +8%) Inner Temple |
11/2(+8%) | (8) Inner Temple 11/2, Thrice-raced winner. Won 8-runner maiden at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 6/4) 79 days ago, unchallenged. Makes handicap debut having been gelded. May well do better again. Cut above rivals when making all over 7f in January; can make his mark in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (16/1 -33%) Celtic Warrior |
16/1(-33%) | (9) Celtic Warrior 16/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Sixteenth of 17 in valuable sales event (50/1) at Doncaster (6.5f, good to soft). Off 6 months/gelded. Makes handicap debut. Plenty to find on form. Third in 7f Chelmsford novice on 2nd start; well held on soft in September; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (3/1 +33%) Daring Legend |
3/1(+33%) | (3) Daring Legend 3/1, Improved when winning 7-runner handicap at Newcastle (6f, 11/8) 14 days ago, keeping on well. That was only his second start for current connections and sure to go well again. Made bright start for yard, close 3rd over 7f then impressive at 6f; up 8lb; improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (8/1 -33%) Drama |
8/1(-33%) | (2) Drama 8/1, Lightly-raced winner. 20/1, good fourth of 22 in valuable sales event at Newmarket (6f, good to firm), helped by being held up in strongly-run race. Off 166 days/gelded. Makes tapeta debut. Opening mark looks high enough. Two useful 6f runs on turf as a juvenile; open to improvement over 7f on AW debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (18/1 -13%) Commander Of Life |
18/1(-13%) | (7) Commander Of Life 18/1, Eighth of 12 in nursery (18/1) at Kempton (6f). Off 134 days/gelded. Makes tapeta debut. First run for yard after leaving S. P. C. Woods. Easy to look elsewhere. Best form at 6f as 2yo; sold 18,000gns since; likely best watched back from break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (8/1 -45%) Runaround Sioux |
8/1(-45%) | (10) Runaround Sioux 8/1, Improved when winning 8-runner event on handicap bow at Chelmsford City (6f, 5/1) 26 days ago, overcoming positional bias. Makes tapeta debut. Remains unexposed and likely to go well again. All races at about 6f; made up plenty of ground for ready Polytrack win; first Tapeta run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (11/2 +21%) Engineer |
11/2(+21%) | (1) Engineer 11/2, One win from 3 runs last year. Winner at Wolverhampton in November. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, good fourth of 10 in handicap (9/2) at Kempton (6f) 32 days ago. Off the mark in 6f Wolverhampton maiden; fair efforts in two handicaps; more needed for 7f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (12/1 -33%) Flag Carrier |
12/1(-33%) | (4) Flag Carrier 12/1, 3/1, career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Kempton (7f) 59 days ago, leading 1f out then hanging right (also unruly to post and unseated rider). First run for yard after leaving Harry Eustace. Acts here; found plenty when 7f winner at Kempton; good contender up just 3lb; new trainer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (4/1 +20%) Smart Vision |
4/1(+20%) | (5) Smart Vision 4/1, Improved when winning 8-runner event on handicap bow (11/4) at Newcastle (7.1f) 28 days ago, plenty in hand. Expected to be bang there. Made the running and never looked like being headed at Newcastle (7f); up just 3lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A comfortable winner when getting off the mark at Wolverhampton in January, INNER TEMPLE remains unexposed and could be well treated off a mark of 76 on his handicap debut. Archie Watson's charge has been gelded since that run and he gets the vote ahead of Newcastle scorer Daring Legend and Flag Carrier, who must be noted on his first start for Brian Toomey. Drama ended his two-year-old campaign with a highly creditable fourth in a valuable auction race at Newmarket so has to enter the reckoning.
SMART VISION had plenty in hand when making a winning handicap bow at Newcastle 4 weeks ago so can defy a 3 lb rise. Runaround Sioux has a similar profile to the selection so is feared most ahead of Daring Legend and Inner Temple.
This looks open, with half the field having won last time. DARING LEGEND impressed over 6f recently and gets the vote back at 7f.

1st (1) (7/4 -17%) Medici Pass |
7/4(-17%) | (1) Medici Pass 7/4, Produced a career best on first run since leaving Michael O'Meara when winning 7-runner handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) 9 days ago. Obvious claims under a 5-lb penalty. Hacked up on debut for this yard and she's 4lb well-in even with the penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (11/2 -10%) Van Zant |
11/2(-10%) | (10) Van Zant 11/2, One win from 26 Flat runs. 11/4, creditable fourth of 9 in minor event at this C&D 7 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. One to consider. Only 1-26 but has continued in good form since that breakthrough win at Wolverhampton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (6/1 -20%) Locked N' Loaded |
6/1(-20%) | (6) Locked N' Loaded 6/1, Nineteen runs since last win in 2022, though latest run over C&D is best excused, keeping on when badly hampered and snatched up final 100 yds. Infrequent winner (4-47) and often compromises his chances by racing too freely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (18/1 +0%) Total Lockdown |
18/1(+0%) | (5) Total Lockdown 18/1, Unreliable sort. One win from 22 Flat runs. Blinkered for 1st time, last of 9 in handicap (28/1) at Kempton (12f) 22 days ago. Significantly back down in trip. Hood back on. Fitting blinkers backfired last time; a hood returns but still opposable in current form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (16/1 -60%) Twistaline |
16/1(-60%) | (7) Twistaline 16/1, C&D winner in January but is merely ticking over at present, only seventh of 8 in handicap (18/1) at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 10 days ago. Plenty went wrong last time; of interest back here off what remains a competitive mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (16/1 +0%) Anif |
16/1(+0%) | (2) Anif 16/1, Course winner. 25/1, sixth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (8f) 20 days ago, unsuited by way race developed. Blinkers back on. Multiple winner but has been struggling for a while with slow starts an unwelcome habit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (5/1 -25%) Neptune Legend |
5/1(-25%) | (4) Neptune Legend 5/1, Latest win at Wolverhampton in February. Creditable fourth of 8 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 10/3) 19 days ago, though it was all very laboured. Significantly back up in trip. Running well elsewhere over shorter trips and worth another go over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (28/1 +0%) Tacitus |
28/1(+0%) | (9) Tacitus 28/1, One win from 23 Flat runs. Ninth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 50/1). Off 150 days. 0-8 on the AW; out of form when last seen in October. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (16/1 +0%) Mr Marvlos |
16/1(+0%) | (8) Mr Marvlos 16/1, Unreliable type. Remains a maiden after 18 Flat runs. Seventh of 9 in handicap (12/1) at Kempton (7f) 15 days ago, nearest finish. Cheekpieces back on and will prove suited by a return to this trip. 0-18; only seventh of nine runners over 7f at Kempton on his return from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (14/1 +0%) Rocklyn |
14/1(+0%) | (3) Rocklyn 14/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Eighth of 9 in maiden at this C&D (33/1) 58 days ago, slowly away. Makes handicap debut and may have better still to offer at some stage. Shown some ability; could have potential lurking now sent into handicaps. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Rocklyn was never in contention in a maiden over C&D in January but based on her first two starts, she could have a say on her handicap bow off a rating of 57. However, it's hard to get away from MEDICI PASS' impressive four-length victory over 7f at Newcastle on her first outing for the Iain Jardine stable. The daughter of Raven's Pass remains in the same grade and can defy her penalty to record a double. Neptune Legend should remain competitive off his mark and fight it out for the minor honours.
MEDICI PASS got off the mark in emphatic fashion on her first start for Iain Jardine at Newcastle last week and will take a bit of stopping under a penalty if turning up in similar form. Locked N' Loaded had little go right at Wolverhampton last time and is second choice ahead of Van Zant.
There's no strong temptation to see past the easy Newcastle winner MEDICI PASS, who looks to have turned a major corner.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (3/1 +14%) Urban Dandy |
3/1(+14%) | (7) Urban Dandy 3/1, Course winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. 7/1, creditable close second of 9 in C&D handicap 11 days ago. Has to be taken seriously off the same mark. Unlucky second over C&D 11 days ago and he's a major player off the same mark today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (16/1 -14%) Rockin Rosa |
16/1(-14%) | (9) Rockin Rosa 16/1, Won at Newcastle (7f) last August. Best run since when fifth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (7f) in October. Off 156 days. Inconsistent but capable of having a say if she's on song on this return from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/1 +0%) Midnightattheoasis |
7/1(+0%) | (1) Midnightattheoasis 7/1, Course winner. Creditable third of 8 in C&D handicap 23 days ago, running on. Close third off this reduced mark over C&D last time and could be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (11/2 +0%) Meng Tian |
11/2(+0%) | (6) Meng Tian 11/2, Twenty runs since last win in 2022. 9/5, creditable second of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford (1m) when last seen in November. On 20-race losing sequence but posted some good runs last year; returns from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (13/2 -18%) Handel |
13/2(-18%) | (3) Handel 13/2, One win from 29 Flat runs. 12/1, creditable second of 12 in handicap at Kempton (1m) 19 days ago, left poorly placed. Not taken lightly. Poor strike-rate and not straightforward, but in good form and might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (11/1 -57%) Fieldsman |
11/1(-57%) | (2) Fieldsman 11/1, C&D winner in December and went in again at Wolverhampton in January. Below form seventh of 12 in handicap (7/2) at this course (1m) 9 days ago, ridden too aggressively. Did too much too soon here last time; running consistently well previously (including C&D). |

8th (8) (10/1 -100%) Mine That Ship |
10/1(-100%) | (8) Mine That Ship 10/1, 18/1, first run since leaving Alice Haynes when good second of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford (6f) on reappearance 12 days ago. Claims if in similar form. Close second on recent stable debut at Chelmsford and could have more to offer for yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (12/1 +14%) Major Gatsby |
12/1(+14%) | (5) Major Gatsby 12/1, Latest win at Wolverhampton in October. 12/1, bit below form sixth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7f) 27 days ago, ridden too aggressively. Won off 2lb higher at Wolverhampton last October but not at the same level this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (40/1 -21%) Ishani |
40/1(-21%) | (4) Ishani 40/1, Last of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7f, 40/1) 69 days ago. A refitted tongue strap and first-time cheekpieces combination needs to spark improvement. Well beaten on her two runs this winter but the recent form of the stable catches the eye. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Mine That Ship made a highly encouraging start to life in the care of Michael Wigham when hitting the crossbar over 6f at Chelmsford, and she could get involved now up in trip off an unchanged rating. However, URBAN DANDY overcame interference at a vital stage over C&D to just get touched off recently. The son of Dandy Man is able to compete off the same mark and could prove very hard to beat with a clearer passage. Meng Tian and Handel are others to consider.
URBAN DANDY looked unlucky when just failing to get up over C&D last time and should take a bit of stopping off the same mark if showing up in similar form. Handel needs things to drop right the way he's ridden but can go close off his mark if they do. Meng Tian and Mine That Ship are others who should have a say in a competitive race for the level.
This can go to URBAN DANDY (nap), who was having his first crack at 7f when denied a clear run and short-headed over C&D 11 days ago.

Could be ready to return to winning ways. Near miss at Newcastle last week on first run back with this yard; leading contender. |

2nd (1) (8/1 -14%) Alfred Cove |
8/1(-14%) | (1) Alfred Cove 8/1, One win from 27 Flat runs. Went backwards from recent run when eleventh of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 11/) 19 days ago. Drops in grade but others still more persuasive. Yet to fire this year but drops in grade and of interest on last year's best. |

3rd (2) (8/1 +0%) Bluebells Boy |
8/1(+0%) | (2) Bluebells Boy 8/1, Thirteen runs since his sole success back in 2022. After 4 months off, shaped as if needing the run when last of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 9/1) 2 weeks ago. Could fare better with the blinkers back on. Low-key return but drops into his first 0-50 and can't be discounted. |

9/1(-13%) | (5) Lil Wade 9/1, After 8 weeks off, ran well when fourth of 9 in handicap at this course (5f, 16/1) a week ago. never nearer. Should be suited by going back up in trip and he can make his presence felt. Not beaten far in a 5f handicap here last week; contender dropped into his first 0-50. |

5th (4) (6/1 -50%) Fantasy Navigator |
6/1(-50%) | (4) Fantasy Navigator 6/1, Doubled his tally when scoring at Newcastle in February. Merits consideration. 6f win at Newcastle last month and ran creditably here (7f) last time; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (8/1 -14%) Trulie Good |
8/1(-14%) | (8) Trulie Good 8/1, In first-time visor, off the mark at this course (5f) in February. Not in the same form when seventh of 9 in minor event at Newcastle (6f, 17/2) 6 days ago, but she's not discounted back at this venue. 5f win here last month before a lesser effort at Newcastle last week; needs a full revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (10/1 +0%) My Boy Jack |
10/1(+0%) | (6) My Boy Jack 10/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2023, but creditable effort when fifth of 9 in minor event at this course (7.1f, 17/2) 5 days ago. Cheekpieces reapplied. Will need things to drop right returned to 6f. Not beaten far over 7f here last week but others appeal more for win purposes. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
LIL WADE hit the line well for fourth over 5f here off a mark of 50 last week and he now tries classified company for the first time in his career. Scott Dixon's four-year-old is joint top-rated with four others in this contest, but that most recent run just gives him the edge. Catherine Chroi was only denied by a head at this level at Newcastle and it would be no surprise to see her get into contention once more. Fantasy Navigator is also a player.
CATHERINE CHROI made a promising return when narrowly denied at Newcastle 6 days ago and she can go one better making only her second start back with Iain Jardine. The main danger could be Lil Wade, who shaped as if he should benefit from going back up to 6f when fourth here last week, ahead of Fantasy Navigator.
A few possibles but CATHERINE CHROI is fancied to go one better than at Newcastle last week.

1st (4) (6/1 -20%) Hard Solution |
6/1(-20%) | (4) Hard Solution 6/1, Modest gelding. Arguably unlucky not to win when third of 8 in handicap (16/1) at Chelmsford City (6f) 12 days ago, meeting trouble at a crucial stage. Not the easiest to score with but player if in same form. Better recent effort when third at Chelmsford 12 days ago; in the mix if backing it up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/2 -38%) Higher Law |
11/2(-38%) | (5) Higher Law 11/2, Modest gelding. Remains a maiden after 20 Flat runs. 4/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at this course (5f) 7 days ago. Step back up in trip should suit and he's respected. 0-20 but has shown winning potential; return to 6f can help; one for the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/4 -17%) Admirable Lad |
7/4(-17%) | (1) Admirable Lad 7/4, Modest gelding. 13/2, won 7-runner minor event at Chelmsford City (6f) 21 days ago. Has to be taken seriously in another ordinary event. In good form after a wind op, winning two minor sprints this year; should go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (10/1 -25%) Ustath |
10/1(-25%) | (8) Ustath 10/1, Four-time C&D winner. Three wins from 11 runs last year but has struggled since returning from 8-month break and others make more appeal. Multiple course winner; should appreciate returning to 6f; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (14/1 +0%) Mikka |
14/1(+0%) | (7) Mikka 14/1, Showed more than previously when fourth of 8 in minor event at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 22/1) 61 days ago but bit more will be needed if he is to get off the mark. Engaged 8.00 Southwell Wednesday. Unplaced all starts but not beaten far in January; also declared 8.00 here Wednesday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (33/1 -32%) Banana |
33/1(-32%) | (3) Banana 33/1, Poor mare. Remains a maiden after 27 Flat runs. Runner-up in handicap at Wolverhampton in February but well below form last 2 starts. Very hard to make a case for. Exposed low-grade maiden who finished out the back in a C&D handicap last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (11/1 -38%) Bama Lama |
11/1(-38%) | (2) Bama Lama 11/1, Modest mare. Creditable fourth of 12 in handicap at Kempton (6f, 7/1), faring best of those ridden prominently. Off 134 days. Place claims if ready to roll after break. Unplaced in all eight AW runs and likely vulnerable back from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (11/2 +31%) Liv Lucky |
11/2(+31%) | (6) Liv Lucky 11/2, Modest mare. One win from 29 Flat runs. Last of 8 in minor event at this course (8.1f, 17/2) 56 days ago. Peak form would see her in the mix but she needs to bounce back with visor on 1st time. Hard to win with but this is her level and the new visor could give her a lift. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
ADMIRABLE LAD won a similar contest over this distance at Chelmsford three weeks ago and the six-year-old is hard to oppose on the back of that performance. Hard Solution was a close third in handicap company on his most recent outing and he should not be underestimated as a result, while Higher Law and Bama Lama are others who make the shortlist.
ADMIRABLE LAD resumed winning ways in a similar contest at Chelmsford last month and sets the standard on that form. Higher Law is a long-standing maiden but his recent form over this trip is better than the 5f he raced at here last week, so should give a good account, whilst Hard Solution also merits respect after getting little luck in-running last time.
Higher Law and Admirable Lad are serious players but perhaps HARD SOLUTION can build on the promise of his latest run.

4/1(-45%) | (7) Young Endless 4/1, 7/4, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at this course (1¾m) 16 days ago, kept up to work. First run for yard after leaving Sam Thomas. Visor back on. Considered. Off the mark over 1m6f here latest; query as to whether that trip suits better than 2m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

7/2(+0%) | (3) Ney 7/2, C&D winner last month. Good third of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (2m) since. Should go well again. In good form; clear C&D winner last month and can prove suited by the return to this track. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (66/1 -32%) Northern Rose |
66/1(-32%) | (12) Northern Rose 66/1, Poor form on the Flat and over hurdles. Others are more obvious. Not many suitable chances but again well held when back on AW latest, over 1m6f here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (4/1 +50%) Prince Abu |
4/1(+50%) | (5) Prince Abu 4/1, Unreliable sort. C&D winner. Twenty runs since last win in 2022. Respectable sixth of 11 in handicap (7/1) at Wolverhampton (1¾m) 6 days ago, merely closing up late. Cheekpieces on first time. C&D winner; capable of going well on best form; first-time cheekpieces (3 wins in a hood). |

33/1(-106%) | (2) Tying The Knot 33/1, Well held in 3 hurdles lately ahead of this return to the Flat. Has plenty to prove. Hurdle winner for previous yard in early 2023 but very mixed over hurdles/on Flat since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (20/1 -43%) Shadowfax |
20/1(-43%) | (1) Shadowfax 20/1, Came good at Chelmsford (1¾m) in November but well held here on his next 2 starts. Been off for 105 days. Off the mark over 1m6f on Polytrack; two poor efforts here since; back from break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (5/1 +29%) Stolen Encounter |
5/1(+29%) | (8) Stolen Encounter 5/1, Creditable third of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (1¾m, 11/2) 6 days ago. Another who could make his presence felt. Narrow defeat over 1m4f; in good form at 1m6f but stamina to prove up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (25/1 -56%) Kitten's Dream |
25/1(-56%) | (11) Kitten's Dream 25/1, Unreliable type. C&D winner. Twenty three runs since last win in 2023. Respectable fifth of 10 in classified event at Wolverhampton (1½m, 50/1) 38 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. C&D winner but he has little to show for this winter's efforts; looks best watched again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (40/1 -100%) Leazy Lindsay |
40/1(-100%) | (9) Leazy Lindsay 40/1, Modest on Flat last year and no show over hurdles for Anthony Charlton this winter. Now back on the Flat with a new trainer. Glimmer of promise on 1m4f handicap debut in 2023; worth market check for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (4) (33/1 -32%) Sindri |
33/1(-32%) | (4) Sindri 33/1, 100/1, eighth of 9 in handicap at Kempton (1½m) 22 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Respectable 1m6f Tapeta run in November but two low-key runs for this yard of late. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
NEY was an impressive winner over C&D two starts ago and he was third off this mark at Newcastle subsequently. The Danny Brooke-trained six-year-old clearly remains on a workable rating and just gets the vote ahead of Young Endless, who scored over 1m6f at this venue earlier in the month and has since switched yards. Others to consider are Zephlyn, Prince Abu and Stolen Encounter.
Last month's C&D winner NEY ran another solid race when third at Newcastle and might be able to resume winning ways back here. Zephlyn is another who arrives at the top of his game and can fill the forecast spot ahead of last month's 1¾m course scorer Young Endless and Archie Watson's Stolen Encounter.
This can go to NEY who was a convincing winner of his first C&D start last month and can prove suited by the return to this track.
Ths is the racecard key.

It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
