(7) Desert Master 9/2, Doubled career tally over C&D 2 weeks ago but disappointed turned out under a penalty when last of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (5f, 5/1) 5 days ago. Needs to quickly leave that behind.
Best to forgive latest effort; narrowly beat Street Life over C&D the time before.

4/1(+27%)
(4) Show Me Show Me 4/1, Ended a long losing run under a good ride in 9-runner handicap at Newcastle (5f) 14 days ago, staying on to lead dying strides. Possibilities if arriving in same groove. Engaged 4.45 Newcastle Tuesday.
Seems best suited by Newcastle in this sphere; not the percentage call.

It's Showtime

16
16/1(0%)
(6) It's Showtime 16/1, Sole success at Lingfield (5f turf) in May. However, largely consistent subsequently and shaped as if better for the run after 8 weeks off when eleventh of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 28/1) 19 days ago. Not out of things just 2 lb above last winning mark.
Latest defeat took her AW record to 0-11 but this return to 5f is a plus.

Fortunate Star

(2) Fortunate Star 5/4, Dual C&D winner. Three wins from 18 runs last year. Latest win here in November. 7/1, creditable second of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 5 days ago, headed late on. Likely type returned to the minimum trip.
Clear second at Newcastle last Friday; scored twice over C&D in November; strong chance.

Stone Of Destiny

20/1(-67%)
(9) Stone Of Destiny 20/1, Untrustworthy individual. C&D winner. Bit below form 4 lengths fourth of 9 to Show Me Show Me in handicap (18/1) at Newcastle (5f) 14 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Strike rate obviously tempers enthusiasm but he's never been lower in the weights.
On a very handy mark but his very poor strike-rate since 2020 remains a drawback.

Shalaa Asker

13/2(+54%)
(1) Shalaa Asker 13/2, Hasn't been with current yard for long, never involved when seventh of 11 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 28 days ago. Went off at a big price that day (80/1) and interesting to see if market speaks more favourably today now dropped into class 6 company.
Not crying out for return to 5f but the drop to Class 6 may offset that negative.

(3) Better 14/1, Latest win at Newcastle (5f) in October before a very good third over C&D a month later. Disappointed back at first-named venue 5 weeks ago but no surprise to see a better showing.
Holds a fighting chance on his autumn form; Warren Fentiman takes off useful 7lb.

(5) So Obsessed 25/1, Recorded four wins from 13 runs last year but not operating at best at present, only sixth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 9 days ago. Something to find on form.
Not in top form at present but is competitively weighted granted a resurgence.

12:08 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Although Fortunate Star edged out BETTER when he dead-heated for first over this C&D in November, the latter has an 8lb pull at the weights and, with Warren Fentiman's claim added to the mix, he has a live chance of exacting revenge for that narrow defeat. Street Life and Desert Master are closely matched on recent form, with the former appealing most of that pair based on his more proven reliability.

A dual C&D winner already this winter, FORTUNATE STAR ran another solid race before the longer trip stretched him when second at Newcastle 5 days ago. He's a player turned out quickly back at the minimum trip, with Street Life and class dropping Shalaa Asker others to consider.

In-form FORTUNATE STAR (nap) holds strong claims returned to his ideal distance. Better ties in with the selection.

4/6(+56%)
(2) Dash Gordon 4/6, 4-y-o who was successful on final start for Alex French at Newcastle (5f) in October. Failed to justify support for new connections/after 3 months off when third of 11 in minor event back there 4 days ago but he may come on for that. Tongue strap on 1st time. Worth another chance.
Still an unexposed sort on AW; warrants respect on second run for shrewd new connections.

(10) Trulie Good 14/1, Modest mare. C&D winner. 28/1, below form after 10 months off when sixth of 12 in minor event at this course (6.1f) 12 days ago. That ought to have blown the cobwebs away and she wouldn't have to step up a great deal to play a part here. Respected.

(4) Hi Hoh Tonto 16/1, Unreliable sort. Seventh of 10 in handicap (2/1) at this course (6.1f) 63 days ago, weakening final 1f. Another to have switched yards ahead of this but pick of previous form for former stable gives him a shout.

12:38 Southwell Stakes (Class 6) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

A winner over 5f at Newcastle in October on his penultimate start, DASH GORDON was too keen for his own good when he returned to that venue and finished third in this company on Saturday. Now with a tongue-tie added, his match-fitness topped up and Billy Loughnane booked, the four-year-old appeals most. May Remain is feared most with a first-time tongue-tie and cheekpieces combination tried, ahead of Hi Hoh Tonto.

DASH GORDON failed to justify support when third on debut for Mick Appleby at Newcastle 4 days ago, yet that was still a respectable effort on the back of a 4-month break, and he's worth another chance equipped with a tongue tie for the first time. Trulie Good, Hi Hoh Tonto and Liv Lucky may emerge as the lead threats.

Although he was a beaten favourite last Saturday, DASH GORDON looks well worth another chance. Hi Hoh Tonto is second pick.

13:08 Southwell Handicap (Class 5) 11f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

With his yard in good nick, one-time Group 3 winner AIKHAL, who was rated 111 at his peak for Aidan O'Brien, could be primed to strike returning to the all-weather off a mark of just 70. The Bay Warrior, a creditable second over C&D last month, is feared most off just 2lb higher. Night Bear boasts winning course form and is also noted running for another in-form yard.

NIGHT BEAR stepped up on his comeback run when third in a handicap over shorter here 17 days ago, and he's fancied to go well again from what is a workable mark. The Bay Warrior is another in-form sort who is feared along with Harry The Haggler provided he sees out this longer trip. Path To Glory is a handicap debutante to note.

This can go to NIGHT BEAR, who has won over 1m4f here and finished a good third over the same trip here last time.

13:38 Southwell Handicap (Class 4) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A case can be made for a few of these so only a tentative vote goes to ANGEL OF ANTRIM. He has done nothing but improve this winter and he was impressive when coming clear of his rivals in the style of a well handicapped horse to bring up a four-timer over this trip at Wolverhampton recently. Despite a 10lb hike in the ratings, he looks the one to side with once more. Enola Grey did it well when scoring over 7f at Dunstall Park on her penultimate start and she warrants respect dropping back in trip, while Ormolulu and Lattaash are a couple of others to consider.

OUR HAVANA was strong in the betting after 7 months off and went like the best horse at the weights when runner-up at Newcastle 18 days ago, his early keenness/muddling gallop just leaving him short in the finish. He's worth siding with to confirm his mark a workable one. Course specialist Eligible arrives having landed 2 of his last 3 starts and he's feared along with the thriving Angel of Antrim. Ormolulu and Lattaash are others to consider in a competitive heat.

Lightly raced OUR HAVANA may be more settled this time and he gets the vote, ahead of Harvard Sound.

14:08 Southwell Stakes (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

This may prove a good opportunity for MONSIEUR FANTAISIE to rediscover his shooting boots. He went down narrowly in second in a similar contest over C&D recently and a reproduction of that effort should suffice here. Mr Slicker has shown flashes of decent form in handicaps this winter and he could go well pitched into Classified company for the first time, while Kodebreaker was rated 7lb higher only three starts ago and he looks to hold solid claims on figures.

Several of these arrive out of sorts but that's certainly not the case for MONSIEUR FANTAISIE, who went down by just a head over C&D 11 days ago and can go one better with a repeat effort. Kodebreaker rates as an obvious danger back in grade, with Headshot and Tres Chic another couple fancied to be in the shake up.

C&D winner MONSIEUR FANTAISIE comes here at the top of his form and he is the one to beat. Headshot may be next best.

14:40 Southwell Stakes (Class 6) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

EVOLUIR (fourth) was only a head behind Miss Billie (third) when the pair met in a similar contest here recently and the former gets the nod to reverse that form en route to victory this time. He came from a long way back to finish with a wet sail on that occasion and, provided the cards fall more favourably here, it would be no surprise if the four-year-old wound up in the winner's enclosure. This step back up to 7f can help My Boy Jack be seen to better effect.

MY BOY JACK has bounced back to form in his 2 starts this year, only narrowly denied at this course on the first occasion, so he could be ready to return to winning ways this time around. Wrath of Hector placed in handicaps on his final 3 outings in 2024 and is respected, while Frightening is also one to note dropped in grade.

His recent strong-finishing fourth over C&D was encouraging and EVOLUIR is taken to come out best, ahead of My Boy Jack.

15:15 Southwell Stakes (Class 5) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SUNSHINE SOUL did little wrong when finishing a close-up fourth in a competitive class 5 fillies' novice over 5f here in August and a return to 6f on her reappearance looks a positive move. George Boughey's charge should put her experience to good use and she's taken to open her account. Newcomer Diamont Katie, a half-sister to three-time winner Forefront, is a potential fly in the ointment and market support must be noted. Suzuka looks the pick of the remainder.

SUZUKA shaped well from a poor position when fourth here on debut and she should have benefited from the experience, so she gets the nod over Diamont Katie, who looks an interesting newcomer on paper for a top yard. Sunshine Soul has the best form but is potentially vulnerable with her level already established.

Form choice SUNSHINE SOUL is taken to get off the mark. Suzuka and Diamont Katie complete the shortlist.

15:50 Southwell Handicap (Class 6) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

The hat-trick seeking Bomb Squad warrants respect after scoring at Wolverhampton and at this track within the past month. A 2lb rise for the seven-year-old's latest C&D triumph looks surmountable, but BELLAGIO MAN is slightly more compelling. Antony Brittain's charge arrives on the back of a solid second at Newcastle a fortnight ago and he may prove to be the better handicapped of the pair off just 1lb higher. Rusheen Boy and Yoshimi are also worth a closer look.

BOMB SQUAD has struck up a good partnership with Cieren Fallon lately and had more in hand than the bare result when scoring narrowly over C&D last time, so he's worth a chance to complete the hat-trick at the possible expense of Bellagio Man, who also arrives at the top of his game. Rusheen Boy is another one worthy of respect.

The return to Southwell swings the vote in favour of RUSHEEN BOY, ahead of hat-trick seeker Bomb Squad.

About U.K Horse Racing

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.

Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
