1st (5) (1/3 +38%) Mr Escobar |
1/3(+38%) | (5) Mr Escobar 1/3, Useful handicapper on Flat who is something of a ticking timebomb in terms of temperament but did little wrong when thwarted only by a stablemate at Listowel in September and not disgraced back on the level since. Sets a clear standard. Useful Flat racer; clear second of 16 on latest hurdling start; the one to beat here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (11/4 +50%) Kingston Narcissus |
11/4(+50%) | (2) Kingston Narcissus 11/4, Fair and consistent maiden on Flat in France and similar form over hurdles, again going down only narrowly in a C&D maiden 3 weeks ago. Should be firmly in the mix once again. Runner-up over C&D on consecutive outings this autumn; likely contender again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (22/1 -38%) Paddys Policy |
22/1(-38%) | (6) Paddys Policy 22/1, £45,000 buy after finishing runner-up only outing in Irish points but shaped with little promise in a Bangor bumper on Rules debut 4 weeks ago. Second on Irish point debut in March but only fifth of six in Bangor bumper last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (8/1 -33%) Maghlaak |
8/1(-33%) | (4) Maghlaak 8/1, Fairly useful Flat winner who offered little encouragement when last of 4 on recent Cheltenham hurdle debut. Should do better. Useful Flat racer; made underwhelming hurdle debut at Cheltenham but may improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (300/1 -20%) Knight Of Magic |
300/1(-20%) | (3) Knight Of Magic 300/1, Poor maiden on the Flat who is yet to show anything in a bumper/pair of maiden hurdles. Modest Flat maiden who was a well-beaten outsider on his two hurdling attempts last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (200/1 -100%) Tan Law |
200/1(-100%) | (7) Tan Law 200/1, Malinas gelding. Pulled up sole start in points and showed nothing sent hurdling at Ayr 24 days ago. Struggled when a 66-1 outsider for recent stable/hurdle debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (80/1 -21%) Fujita Scale |
80/1(-21%) | (1) Fujita Scale 80/1, Showed some ability on bumper debut here in May but failed to match that form at Ayr 6 months on. Not beaten far in course bumper in May but needs to improve to pose a threat today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (18/1 +28%) She's Got Bottle |
18/1(+28%) | (11) She's Got Bottle 18/1, Fair handicapper on Flat (stays 1¼m), successful twice in 2024, below form last time. Could have a future in this sphere. Five-time Flat winner at up to 1m2f; can be competitive here if she takes well to hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (300/1 -50%) Royal Romance |
300/1(-50%) | (10) Royal Romance 300/1, No impact in bumpers/maiden hurdle. Finished last in both her bumpers and was pulled up on her hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (12) (150/1 +25%) Tres Bien |
150/1(+25%) | (12) Tres Bien 150/1, Showed a bit when third in a Newton Abbot bumper on debut but has gone sharply downhill since, pulled up all 3 starts over hurdles, including on the back of a breathing operation last time. Placed in a bumper in the spring but pulled up on all three hurdling starts this autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (40/1 +0%) Myfavouritesister |
40/1(+0%) | (9) Myfavouritesister 40/1, Little form in 3 bumpers and made an unpromising start over hurdles at this course 12 days ago. Not beaten far in modest mares' race on recent hurdle debut but this is much tougher. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MR ESCOBAR will be the first of Willie Mullins' Closutton outfit to grace this track and he appeals as the one to beat. A useful sort on the Flat, he chased home a stablemate for second at Listowel on his latest start over hurdles. This race doesn't look as deep and any further improvement can see him go one better. Maghlaak was equally as useful on the level but he will need to leave a disappointing hurdling bow behind him, while the 107-rated Kingston Narcissus, twice a runner-up over this C&D, heads the remainder.
MR ESCOBAR is something of a ticking timebomb in terms of temperament but did little wrong when thwarted only by a stablemate at Listowel on his most recent outing in this sphere in September and sets a pretty high standard. Kingston Narcissus is likely to give his running once again, while Maghlaak should do better in this sphere at some stage given his fairly useful Flat form.
Willie Mullins' first Sedgefield runner MR ESCOBAR has his quirks but sets a clear standard on hurdling form.

1st (5) (5/1 -11%) Bathgate |
5/1(-11%) | (5) Bathgate 5/1, Still a maiden but comes here on the back of a solid fourth of 10 in 2m3f Ayr handicap 13 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. 0-7 over hurdles; in the frame on last 2 starts (2m3f); chance despite return to shorter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (6/1 -71%) National Question |
6/1(-71%) | (10) National Question 6/1, Confirmed previous promise when resuming winning ways in 9-runner handicap hurdle at Hexham (16.2f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Up 5 lb but he merits consideration. Improved form on last 2 starts, off the mark at Hexham last time; up 5lb; can go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (9/1 -100%) Trafalgar Square |
9/1(-100%) | (9) Trafalgar Square 9/1, Fair Flat maiden and matched that level with a very good fourth of 8 in juvenile hurdle over C&D (good) 12 days ago. Goes into handicaps on a lenient mark here. Player. Best run when 4th in C&D novice last time; up 9lb; headgear switch; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (9/1 +64%) King Otis |
9/1(+64%) | (2) King Otis 9/1, 18/1 and visored for 1st time, took a step back in the right direction when third of 5 in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (15.8f, good) 14 days ago. Considered off a handy mark for his in-form yard. Two 2m wins on good this summer; not quite as good lately; place chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (8/1 +76%) Royle Steel |
8/1(+76%) | (8) Royle Steel 8/1, C&D winner but failed to fire in two handicap chases this summer. Resumes over hurdles after a break with more needed. Both wins on this course; out of form over fences when last seen out; others look stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (7/1 +13%) La Quarite |
7/1(+13%) | (7) La Quarite 7/1, Remains winless but made an encouraging start for his new yard after 6 months off (formerly with Iain Jardine) when sixth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (16.9f, good) 26 days ago. In the picture. Ex-Iain Jardine; maiden; several fair runs including on stable debut last time; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (3) (10/1 +9%) Chicago Gal |
10/1(+9%) | (3) Chicago Gal 10/1, Fair on the Flat and landed 2m handicap hurdle at Market Rasen in May. Only tenth in 2m Newcastle handicap hurdle last time so needs to bounce back. Market Rasen winner in May; Flat winner since but not at her best on last three starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (13) (25/1 -25%) Inoue |
25/1(-25%) | (13) Inoue 25/1, Down the field in 2 bumpers for Stuart Crawford and yet to offer any encouragement over hurdles. Easy to look elsewhere. Ex-Stuart Crawford; modest form so far; 2lb out of the handicap; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (4) (33/1 +34%) Lady Babs |
33/1(+34%) | (4) Lady Babs 33/1, Off 23 months before coming in last of 10 in handicap hurdle (100/1) at Carlisle (17.2f, good to soft) 23 days ago. Hard to warm to. All wins over 2m at Market Rasen; acts on soft; well beaten after long break last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (12) (80/1 -60%) Foshan |
80/1(-60%) | (12) Foshan 80/1, Poor maiden on the Flat and over hurdles. Others make more appeal. Modest form on the Flat and over hurdles; hard to fancy from just out of the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (3/1 +75%) Lahire |
3/1(+75%) | (6) Lahire 3/1, C&D winner who recorded a creditable fourth of 15 in handicap hurdle (40/1) at Kelso (16.2f, good to soft) 31 days ago. One for the shortlist. C&D winner (soft) last October; sound run when fourth at Kelso last time; good claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (25/1 -56%) Cawthorne |
25/1(-56%) | (1) Cawthorne 25/1, Landed hat-trick between May and July and took advantage of a relatively simple task when landing 3-runner event at Uttoxeter last month. Solid fourth back hurdling there last time so should give another good account. Won four races (three over fences) in 2022, all on good ground; long absence to overcome. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (33/1 -65%) Detective |
33/1(-65%) | (11) Detective 33/1, A fair 7f Flat winner this summer for Dianne Sayer. Lightly raced in this sphere so needs to hit the ground running for his new handler after 2 years away from hurdling. Seven-time Flat winner; disappointing in 4 runs over jumps; well handicapped; a possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
National Question pulled well clear with the runner-up when on target by a narrow margin at Hexham last time and he may have more to offer after a 5lb rise, but the vote goes to BATHGATE. Philip Kirby's charge has yet to truly shine in handicaps, but better was expected at Ayr recently. Eased a further 1lb in the handicap and dropped in trip, the four-year-old might be able to sustain his finishing effort now. Others to note include King Otis and Trafalgar Square.
TRAFALGAR SQUARE took his form up a notch with a recent C&D fourth and can now capitalise on a handy-looking mark on his first venture into handicap company. La Quarite started life well for his new stable when sixth at Newcastle and heads the list of dangers with King Otis, National Question, Bathgate and Lahire all in the mix too.
This can go to LAHIRE, who ran one of his best races since winning over C&D last year when fourth in a Kelso handicap last time.

1st (5) (6/4 +50%) Clean Getaway |
6/4(+50%) | (5) Clean Getaway 6/4, Has done well over fences this year and capitalised on this lenient hurdling mark last 2 starts here. 12 lb higher back over fences now but clearly thriving. C&D winner in October and twice successful over hurdles here since; obvious contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/2 +0%) Mutual Respect |
9/2(+0%) | (2) Mutual Respect 9/2, All the better for return when narrow winner at Worcester and benefited from the late fall of another rival for the second start in succession when following up at Bangor 4 weeks ago. Only 2 lb higher so respected in hat-trick bid. Probably fortunate when winning his last two races but ought to be on the premises again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (25/1 +24%) Ensel Du Perche |
25/1(+24%) | (8) Ensel Du Perche 25/1, Won 2m1f handicap chases at Market Rasen and Cartmel early last season. Raced only twice since, excuses at Hereford final start. May need this after 7 months off. Dual chase winner in summer 2023 but absent since a poor run in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/1 -10%) Six One Nine |
11/1(-10%) | (1) Six One Nine 11/1, Has really enhanced his strike rate over fences at Newcastle last season, winning 3 times. Just respectable fourth here final start and handicapper may be in control for now. Off 6 months. Did well last season, winning three times at Newcastle; absent since C&D fourth in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (11/2 +0%) Minella Youngy |
11/2(+0%) | (4) Minella Youngy 11/2, Fair winning hurdler in Ireland and opened his account for Iain Jardine in a Kelso handicap chase off 6 lb higher last September. Best effort so far for this yard when third at Hexham last time. Player if building on that. Ran well when third at Hexham last month and faster ground can aid his cause here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (3/1 -20%) Augharue |
3/1(-20%) | (7) Augharue 3/1, Went agonisingly close to breaking his duck from a tumbling mark at Sedgefield (17f, good) in May. Followed that with a series of uninspiring performances but back on track when runner-up to a subsequent winner at Kelso last month. Player with a repeat. Ran game race from the front at Kelso last month but is too inconsistent to rely upon. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
There has been no stopping CLEAN GETAWAY of late. A C&D winner over fences from 3lb lower in October, the son of Getaway has since recorded a brace of hurdling successes and there could be more to come. Mutual Respect completed a double in somewhat fortuitous fashion at Bangor last time out but he merits respect from 2lb higher nonetheless. Minella Youngy showed more at Hexham recently and is another to enter calculations from 6lb below his last winning mark.
AUGHARUE was headed only late on by a subsequent winner at Kelso last month and he looks ready to shed his maiden tag. Thriving pair Clean Getaway and Mutual Respect are the obvious threats.
The most obvious answer is bang-in-form 7yo CLEAN GETAWAY (nap), who has already collected three course wins this autumn.

1st (4) (9/1 -13%) Salsada |
9/1(-13%) | (4) Salsada 9/1, Useful Flat winner who showed benefit of a spin on the level when going agonisingly close in a handicap hurdle at Hexham (16.2f, good) last month. Commensurate with her rather in-and-out profile she ran no sort of a race at Wetherby next time, but the ability is certainly there if on a going day. Went close over 2m two starts ago but has since performed poorly; hard to predict. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (18/1 +10%) Punxsutawney Phil |
18/1(+10%) | (7) Punxsutawney Phil 18/1, Sole hurdles success was gained in a maiden over 3 years ago and while he wasn't disgraced back in this sphere at Market Rasen (20.6f, good) recently, others make more appeal. Didn't run badly at Market Rasen recently but overall profile remains unconvincing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (2/1 +20%) Harper Valley |
2/1(+20%) | (2) Harper Valley 2/1, Winner of 3 of his 13 starts over hurdles, including this race 12 months ago, and went close to adding a fourth success in a first-time visor (retained here) at Kelso (21f, good to soft) recently. Nudged back up 3 lb for that but remains feasibly treated overall and another bold show on the cards. Won this in 2023 and returns here after running a big race in first-time visor this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/4 +10%) Laser Focus |
9/4(+10%) | (3) Laser Focus 9/4, Successful 3 times on the Flat this year and wide-margin winner of handicaps at Huntingdon (20.7f, good) and Fakenham (23.4f, good to soft) in this sphere of late. More needed under a penalty in this higher grade but he's clearly at the top of his game and is impossible to rule out. Twice an easy winner this month; effectively 20lb higher today; still respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (7/2 +22%) Knacker Trapper |
7/2(+22%) | (9) Knacker Trapper 7/2, Off the mark over 20.4f at Southwell in May and has returned from a break in good order, placed in handicaps at Sedgefield and Wetherby. No reason to think he won't be in the thick of things once more. Back from break with two good efforts this autumn, including a close second over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (14/1 -40%) Finisk River |
14/1(-40%) | (5) Finisk River 14/1, Just 1 lb higher compared to when resuming winning ways in a Class 2 Bangor handicap in September, but his good run of form came to a halt over this C&D last time and he looks vulnerable against some younger, in-form rivals. Just held on to win off reduced mark in September; not quite in same form since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (28/1 -12%) Belvedere Blast |
28/1(-12%) | (6) Belvedere Blast 28/1, Scored at Hexham in June but it's been all downhill since and he needs to bounce back in a major way. In poor form since his Hexham win in June and needs to turn a corner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (40/1 -233%) Nibiru |
40/1(-233%) | (1) Nibiru 40/1, Fair winner on the Flat, notching fourth success on the level in a Dundalk claimer (final start for Mrs C. O'Leary) last month. Wasn't disgraced starting out for new yard in 1¾m Southwell handicap next time and worth a second look back in this sphere off a workable mark. Very well handicapped on useful Irish form but has looked temperamental at times. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (125/1 -25%) Fugitives Drift |
125/1(-25%) | (8) Fugitives Drift 125/1, Went the wrong way for Nicky Henderson in 2022 and pulled up in hunter chase at Kelso sole outing in 2023/24 for Miss Lucy Brown. Also failed to complete returned to this sphere for new yard at Ayr 13 days ago and it's easy enough to look elsewhere. Won a point in March but achieved nothing when back under rules this month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LASER FOCUS arrives here on the back of two impressive victories earlier in the month and the progressive six-year-old is hard to oppose, despite being 20lb higher than when successful at Fakenham last time. Harper Valley hit the crossbar at Kelso a couple of weeks ago and could prove to be the main threat to the selection. Others to note are Knacker Trapper and Punxsutawney Phil.
The vote goes to HARPER VALLEY, who landed this race last year and looks poised for a repeat following his recent near miss at Kelso. Knacker Trapper's turn also appears near judged on his solid placed efforts the last twice, while the hat-trick seeking Laser Focus has to be feared. Salsada is not the easiest to predict but she will have a serious chance if on-song.
Laser Focus is in superb form but HARPER VALLEY might win this race for the second year running.

1st (2) (7/4 +22%) Pep Talking |
7/4(+22%) | (2) Pep Talking 7/4, Lightly raced 6-y-o who improved on hurdles form when making winning chase debut at Huntingdon in March. Runner-up on 2 of his 4 starts thereafter before resuming winning ways at Uttoxeter (2½m, good to soft) last time. 5 lb rise fair enough and he may well have more to offer. Off the mark for this yard at Uttoxeter last time; up 5lb; has won on soft; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (18/1 -29%) Beat The Edge |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Beat The Edge 18/1, Ungenuine type who has just one win to his name from 26 starts under Rules. Opposable starting out for new yard here following almost 6 months off. Ex-Tim Easterby; only in was over 1m7f on soft; stays this trip well; may need the run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (15/8 +38%) Bebside Banter |
15/8(+38%) | (3) Bebside Banter 15/8, Made it 3 wins from 4 starts over fences here when landing an 11-runner C&D handicap chase 3 weeks ago, proving 2½ lengths too strong for the re-opposing The Paddy Pie. 6 lb rise demands more but he's a sound jumper and is likely to give it a good shot from the front. All 3 wins have been here; latest last time when beating The Paddy Pie; up 6lb; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (15/2 -36%) Tom Creen |
15/2(-36%) | (1) Tom Creen 15/2, Back-to-back winner here last season and again put his best foot forward on this terrain when third over C&D (good to soft) back from a break last month. Live each-way chance off the same mark. All 4 wins have been here; good run after a break latest; acts on any ground; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (14/1 -87%) Kicksaftersix |
14/1(-87%) | (6) Kicksaftersix 14/1, Opened his account in a handicap chase over 15.6f at Hexham in summer 2023. Winless since but consistency hard to knock in recent months, runner-up on each of his last 3 starts at up to 21f, and he should be in the mix once again. Only win was over 1m7f; has been in good form; trip and ground fine; an each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (14/1 -17%) Empty Nest |
14/1(-17%) | (4) Empty Nest 14/1, Remains a maiden and there wasn't enough promise in his recent reappearance spin at Hexham to suggest that he'll put that right here. Chance on his Kelso third in April; hasn't fired in three starts since; bit to prove now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (15/2 -15%) The Paddy Pie |
15/2(-15%) | (5) The Paddy Pie 15/2, Losing run stretches back almost 2 years but his mark reflects that and posted his best effort for a while when chasing Bebside Banter home over C&D last time. 4 lb better off with that rival now but whether it'll be enough for him to reverse those placings has to be doubtful. Back to form when 2nd to Bebside Banter over C&D last time; should be in the mix again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (80/1 -142%) Wotsmyname |
80/1(-142%) | (8) Wotsmyname 80/1, Wasn't disgraced on chase debut at Ayr in February 2023 but absent since and this maiden (0-14 overall) is entitled to come on for the run. 0-12; fair 6th over 3m on chase debut; may need the run after 651-day break; 4lb wrong. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Bebside Banter beat The Paddy Pie into second over C&D three weeks ago and both are likely to be in the mix once again. That said, preference is for PEP TALKING, who bounced back to form on his second start for this yard when scoring over 2m4f at Uttoxeter at the beginning of the month. A 5lb rise for that win appears to be fair as he may have more improvement to come.
PEP TALKING raised his game when scoring on second start for this yard at Uttoxeter and looks capable of going in again off this 5 lb higher mark. He won't have things all his own way, though, as Bebside Banter is carving out a reputation as something of a course specialist (form figures over fences here read 1121). Kicksaftersix has been knocking on the door and he is third choice ahead of The Paddy Pie, who was second to Bebside Banter over C&D last time, and top-weight Tom Creen.
The vote goes to TOM CREEN, who ran well when third here last time and overall has a good record on this track.

9/2(+10%) | (7) Snapaudaciaheros 9/2, Modest form and in the frame both starts in bumpers in May/June, second of 9 at Southwell. THart just about sets the standard on return for in-form yard. Improved when second in Southwell mares' bumper in June on second run; wouldn't rule out. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SNAPAUDACIAHEROS confirmed the promise that she displayed on debut when finishing second in a Southwell bumper on her latest outing in June. If finding any further improvement, the four-year-old could be hard to beat in this company. However, Moonbow has to be of interest having won between the flags earlier in the year, while Is That Alright and Old Blue Eyes are others to note.
The market will be revealing but OLD BLUE EYES is a half-brother to a dual-bumper winner for the same connections so a winning debut at this sort of level would come as no surprise. Moonbow and Sweetlikechocolate displayed ability in points so they need considering, along with Snapaudaciaheros.
It could be worth taking a chance on the well-bred OLD BLUE EYES making a winning debut with Is That Alright another to consider.
Ths is the racecard key.
