(9) Cawthorne Cracker 4/1, Successful at Stratford in June but it's been downhill all the way since and hopes pinned on recent wind op (second time he's undergone the procedure) sparking a return to form.

(2) Foster's Fortune 5/1, Little impact in bumpers and first 3 starts over hurdles but he looked a different proposition when making a winning handicap debut over C&D (good) in May. Though absent since and now 6 lb higher in a stronger race, he has to enter calculations.
Scored over C&D on handicap debut in May; could still have more to offer.

(1) Trailblazer 17/2, Longstanding maiden on the Flat but off the mark at fifth attempt in this sphere when landing an 11-runner Perth handicap (2m, good) in July. Plausible excuses for subsequent defeats and one to consider at a track where he has been placed on both previous visits.
Opened account with surprise win in June but two lesser efforts have followed.

Won off much reduced mark in August and remains very well handicapped on older form.

(3) Sefton Warrior 11/2, This Irish raider is 0-18 over hurdles but has returned to form with creditable efforts in defeat the last twice, latterly finding just one too good in a Worcester handicap (2½m, good). Dropping back in trip here will be no bad thing and he's likely to be on the premises.
0-18 over hurdles but arrives here after two good efforts and probably won't be far away.

13:50 Sedgefield Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

FOSTER'S FORTUNE made a winning start in handicaps when scoring over C&D back in May. The five-year-old returns to action raised 6lb, but he won with plenty left in the tank and looks assured to make another bold bid. Milajess is still seeking that elusive first victory, although she found only one too good at Uttoxeter last time and makes more appeal than Treasured Company, who ended a losing run stretching back to 2021 when successful at Cartmel and is 7lb higher now.

The vote goes to TRAILBLAZER, who opened his account at Perth during the summer and, now back on better ground and over this optimum trip, the 5-y-o is taken to resume winning ways. Treasured Company isn't certain to be in the same form nor mood as when scoring at Cartmel last time but will be a danger to all if he's again in the groove, while Sefton Warrior is third choice ahead of Foster's Fortune and Milajess.

Sue Smith's TREASURED COMPANY (nap) looked back in good nick when drawing clear to score at Cartmel in August and gets the nod.

14:25 Sedgefield Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Model Approach makes a quick reappearance having finished third at Market Rasen on Saturday. He looks sure to feature again with Brian Hughes keeping the partnership intact, but TRAFALGAR SQUARE may edge this. The latter struggled on heavy going when last seen over timber, but had shown plenty of promise when runner-up at Market Rasen on his hurdling debut, with a subsequent winner back in third, and he gets another chance. There's No Limit travels over from Ireland and may improve with blinkers applied for the first time.

MODEL APPROACH showed enough at Market Rasen on Saturday to think he can win a race like this if coping with the quick turnaround. Nigel Hawke saddled the runner-up in that Market Rasen race and his new recruit Fine Point may give the selection most to do ahead of Irish raider There's No Limit.

Among the best of these on the Flat, MODEL APPROACH started his hurdling career with a good run in a better race than this on Saturday.

15:00 Sedgefield Handicap Chase (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

It could pay to forgive CLIMBING a disappointing effort at Worcester last month. The six-year-old had made a promising debut over the larger obstacles, when runner-up at Stratford on his handicap bow, and Jamie Snowden's charge remains open to plenty of improvement. Lipa K landed a double over fences back in the spring, although he has more to find now 10lb higher than when last successful. The remainder all make their chasing debuts, with Hashtag Boum preferred on the strength of her form over hurdles.

This looks wide open and marginal preference is for HASHTAG BOUM, a reliable and fairly useful winning hurdler who has the services of Brian Hughes for the first time now she goes over fences. Jamie Snowden's Climbing has been placed on both his runs in this sphere and seems sure to be on the premises again, while Lipa K is another worthy of consideration despite failing to complete on his last three runs.

Having won a point and two races over hurdles HASHTAG BOUM is an interesting contender on her chase debut.

15:35 Sedgefield Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

MY FRIEND YEATS stepped forward from his hurdling bow when filling the runner-up spot at Cartmel in July and the six-year-old appears to have been found an ideal opportunity to go one better. I'm Ravenous may benefit from rising in trip after a disappointing effort at Worcester, while Irish raider Isle Of Sark is best judged on his second at Tramore in August, which gives him every chance of being in the mix.

Irish raider ISLE OF SARK will be suited by the drop back in trip and can open his account. I'm Ravenous and My Friend Yeats look the likeliest dangers.

The choice is ISLE OF SARK, who was a good second in a decent Tramore maiden hurdle on his second start and didn't stay 3m last time.

16:10 Sedgefield Handicap Chase (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

DREAM JET has continued to run well since a Market Rasen victory and this looks to be an ideal opportunity for him to get back to winning ways. Noble Anthem made his chasing debut when fourth in the aforementioned contest and is likely to step forward from that effort. Neigh Botha and Chase A Fortune are both capable if bouncing back from their latest displays.

NOBLE ANTHEM has run well on all 3 of his starts over jumps for Adrian Keatley, including on his chase debut behind Dream Jet at Market Rasen last time, and he gets the vote with improvement likely in this sphere. His old rival seems sure to be in the mix again under Sean Bowen, while Coqolino is on a very dangerous mark if backing up his Cartmel second dropped markedly in trip.

In an interesting race FEARLESS, back from a wind op, is preferred to Noble Anthem, who ran well on his chase debut.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

HOSTILE HOTELIER caught the eye when keeping on into third on his return from a break at Worcester last month. The application of cheekpieces for the first time is likely to bring about some improvement and he gets the vote at the chief expense of Barrons Land, who has gone up 5lb for her Worcester success in August. Boomslang and Beholden appear best of the remainder.

LET'S GO JOE took a step back in the right direction on his most recent outing in May and, having dropped to an attractive mark, he's selected to make it 2 wins from as many starts at this track. Barrons Land and Beholden head up the opposition.

Rebecca Menzies won this last year, so there's scope to think that she can repeat that success with the ground-versatile BOOMSLANG.
