1st (4) (7/2 +75%) Kamaxos |
7/2(+75%) | (4) Kamaxos 7/2, Some solid efforts in handicaps prior to making the most of a good opportunity back in maiden company at Market Rasen (20.5f, good) in March 2022. Ran well back in a 0-145 handicap on final start that season when last seen and good claims from his reduced mark if retaining most of his ability. Big shout on most form two seasons back but he has not been seen for 663 days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (14/1 -115%) Pozo Emery |
14/1(-115%) | (6) Pozo Emery 14/1, Promising novice hurdler for Paul Nicholls in 2021. Pulled up in 2 chase starts for new yard since returning from a long absence but proved he retains some ability in a first-time visor and tongue strap dropped in grade/returned to hurdling when third in a claimer at Leicester 15 days ago. Off 993 days before this term, with new yard; his third of five last time was in a claimer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (15/2 -88%) Douglas Dc |
15/2(-88%) | (5) Douglas Dc 15/2, A fairly useful hurdler in Ireland for Gordon Elliott who shaped well on his yard debut when fourth in a handicap at Ascot (15.7f) in December. Beat only one home at Kempton next time but shaped as if straight back in form when no match for a subsequent winner over C&D last month. 1-24; this season's efforts for new yard were his best for a while. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (17/2 -89%) Sizing Pottsie |
17/2(-89%) | (3) Sizing Pottsie 17/2, Smart chaser for Jessica Harrington in 2021/22 and, on his first run following another breathing op, he hit the crossbar in a 2m Uttoxeter handicap (heavy) in November. That form hasn't worked out, though, and he's run poorly on both subsequent starts. Enough to prove. Close second on heavy ground in November; one place behind Made For You on latest start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (12/1 -260%) Made For You |
12/1(-260%) | (2) Made For You 12/1, Fairly useful handicap hurdler who's back down to his last winning mark and ran respectably when third in 6-runner handicap at Leicester (15.5f, heavy) on his most recent outing. Should give another good account. No win since December 2022; respectable third both starts this term, latest on heavy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (15/2 -88%) Word Has It |
15/2(-88%) | (1) Word Has It 15/2, Came out on top after 7 months off to land weak Fontwell handicap in November and essentially had no excuses from a 1 lb higher mark when fourth a Warwick subsequently. 3-13 over hurdles and largely reliable, with no ground worries. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (11/8 +72%) Celtic Ned |
11/8(+72%) | (7) Celtic Ned 11/8, Improved again but was somewhat flattered by his proximity to the winner when runner-up in a 2m Lingfield novice in late November. Ran to a similar level on handicap debut there just under 2 weeks later and found a late error costing him valuable momentum here on most recent outing. Can go well. Looked stretched by 2m4f here; lot more lightly raced and less exposed than today's rivals. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Kamaxos showed a fair level of ability when last seen in 2022 and, off what looks to be a workable mark, Roger Teal's charge warrants respect on his return. That said, preference is for WORD HAS IT, who arrives on the back of a creditable fourth over 2m at Warwick and eased 2lb, he gets the tentative nod. Made For You represents a trainer firmly on the hot list and he too warrants serious consideration.
A late error cost CELTIC NED valuable momentum into a quickening pace here on his most recent outing, so he's well worth another chance in what looks an ordinary race for the grade given his previous promise. Kamaxos has been absence since April 2022, but has form in stronger company, including at this track, and could have a say from his reduced mark if retaining most of his ability. Made For You is next best.
The drop back in trip could spark improvement from CELTIC NED, who made a move from off the pace before two out in a 2m4f race here.

1st (6) (4/6 +78%) Etalon |
4/6(+78%) | (6) Etalon 4/6, Hurdles winner who looked potentially smart as he made a winning return/chase debut at Newbury (16.4f) in December. Made little fuss following up in a match at Warwick last month, jumping boldly and going clear quickly. Big player in hat-trick bid. Acts on heavy; 2-2 chasing; his mark may well be lenient and he has stacks of potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (9/1 -80%) Gunsight Ridge |
9/1(-80%) | (1) Gunsight Ridge 9/1, C&D winner who was successful on return last season and quite possible he'd of given of the winner something to think about back from 14 months off at Wetherby (15f) in January, falling 4 out. Fairly low mileage for a 9-y-o and no surprise to see him thereabouts. He was off 406 days but disputing the lead when he fell four out at Wetherby last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/1 -64%) Hardy Du Seuil |
9/1(-64%) | (4) Hardy Du Seuil 9/1, Dual winner over fences during 2021/22 season and enjoyed a good spell campaigned over hurdles last term, successful here 13 months ago and signing off with pair of runners-up efforts in the spring. Possible this first start for 9 months will be needed back over larger obstacles. In good form over hurdles last spring; not seen since but has to be given a close look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (28/1 -180%) The Last Day |
28/1(-180%) | (7) The Last Day 28/1, Sparingly campaigned veteran who fell on return at Ascot and, despite early mistakes, ran well to finish second at Wetherby (15f) 33 days ago. Mark has eased a little more and he's one to monitor, particularly with spring festivals in mind. Aintree brings out the best in him and he was below form on his only start at Sandown. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (22/1 -214%) Le Ligerien |
22/1(-214%) | (3) Le Ligerien 22/1, Built up an impressive strike rate for present yard, adding small-field C&D veterans' chase to his tally at Kempton in November. Placed both subsequent starts, latterly chasing home a progressive youngster back at Kempton, and should give another good account. With this yard over the last year, clocking up a very solid record for them; not far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (8/1 +20%) Xcitations |
8/1(+20%) | (2) Xcitations 8/1, Returned to something like his best with a run under his belt when scoring over C&D in November (now 2-2 here). Mixed bag in trio of starts subsequently but his mark is beginning to steadily ease at least as a result. 2-2 at Sandown, latest in November; ran respectably in a warm race on latest; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (11/1 +0%) Red Rookie |
11/1(+0%) | (5) Red Rookie 11/1, Returned to pick of his chase form to land final start of last term at Warwick (16.2f, heavy) in March. However, yet to truly fire this season, finishing last of those to complete in a C&D handicap 12 days ago. 3rd of five in first-time cheekpieces over C&D 12 days ago, easily his best show this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (18/1 -200%) Fast Buck |
18/1(-200%) | (8) Fast Buck 18/1, Belatedly doubled his tally over fences when landing a small-field Wincanton handicap (15.7f, heavy) from the front last month. Remains feasibly treated nudged up 2 lb. Surged back near his best to win a four-runner race at Wincanton (2m, heavy); back up 2lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (22/1 -57%) Not Available |
22/1(-57%) | (10) Not Available 22/1, Hit the target 3 times at around 2m last term but his attitude has appeared to hold him back over both sets of obstacles in recent months, again racing indolently when third of 6 in handicap chase at Newbury (16.4f) 23 days ago. Visor replaces blinkers now. Looks tricky ride nowadays; latest start was his best show this season but he needs better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (33/1 -230%) Man Again |
33/1(-230%) | (9) Man Again 33/1, Winning hurdler who displayed fairly useful form over fences in France, landing minor events at Beaupreau and Moulins, and claimer at Auteuil (17.4f) in November 2022. Absent since but underfoot conditions will hold no fears on yard debut and the betting should guide. 3-5 over French fences, last seen with a heavy-ground win in November 2022; one to note. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ETALON has made a perfect start to life over fences, notching up two ready victories, and he can make a bold bid to bring up the hat-trick off a 4lb higher mark than his latest Warwick win. Hardy Du Seuil has been running over hurdles on his most recent outings, but he has demonstrated an aptitude for jumping fences in the past and is respected on his return to the larger obstacles. Gunsight Ridge came to grief four from home at Wetherby most recently, but Olly Murphy's gelding has the ability to get involved if his jumping holds up and he can fill the frame.
ETALON has been quick to mark himself down as a potentially smart novice with back-to-back victories over fences upon returning to action this winter and Dan Skelton's charge is fancied to defy another small rise in the weights and complete the hat-trick. Gunsight Ridge was firmly in the mix when falling 4 out at Wetherby in January and he's a danger. Xcitations, who is 2-2 over this C&D, and Fast Buck complete the shortlist.
The highly promising ETALON (nap) has to be the selection, seeking to make it three out of three over fences.

This is a line-up full of promise, with not much between most of them on form, but slight preference is for SMILING GETAWAY.

|U| (3) (16/1 -78%) Champagne Court |

Last year's winner Broken Halo has had three non-completions this term. FARCEUR DU LARGE is therefore taken to win again.

1st (10) (16/1 -78%) Bretney |
16/1(-78%) | (10) Bretney 16/1, A dual scorer last term who arrives in decent nick, third of 8 in handicap chase at Fakenham (29.1f, heavy) 58 days ago. Not dismissed. Acts on soft, below form on heavy; 3-19 over fences; placed all three starts this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (15/2 +70%) Trincomalee |
15/2(+70%) | (8) Trincomalee 15/2, Useful hurdler/chaser at his best but was having his first run since April 2022 when coming in a well-held sixth in handicap chase (22/1) at Newbury (22.4f, soft) 23 days ago. Should strip fitter now. Last month's run (beaten 32l after 642 days off) needs to have done him a lot of good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (4/1 +33%) Copperhead |
4/1(+33%) | (7) Copperhead 4/1, Not the force of old but he's proving consistent this season and came in a solid third in 3m1f handicap at Wincanton 14 days ago. He shouldn't be ruled out. Nothing like the force of old but second or third in four of his last five outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (10/1 +29%) Yes Indeed |
10/1(+29%) | (4) Yes Indeed 10/1, Fairly useful winning chaser in France and some decent placed efforts for this yard, though needs to bounce back from 2 poor runs in December. Several minor honours last year; backward steps on his last two outings are offputting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (5/2 +9%) Animal |
5/2(+9%) | (6) Animal 5/2, In excellent form this season, scoring over C&D before runner-up in handicap chase at Lingfield (28.8f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Has to be taken seriously off an unchanged mark. C&D win (soft) in December before solid places at Market Rasen (3m3f) and Lingfield (3m5f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (16/1 -14%) I See You Well |
16/1(-14%) | (5) I See You Well 16/1, Plumpton specialist who gained his latest success over this C&D in December 2022. Reproduction of that form would put him firmly in the picture but he's rather up-and-down nowadays and others look safer. C&D winner; his second at Plumpton in November has been followed by three lesser efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (18/1 -414%) Placenet |
18/1(-414%) | (1) Placenet 18/1, Useful hurdler/chaser in France who looks to have been handed a lenient opening mark on his UK/stable debut but was pulled up in 3m Cheltenham handicap hurdle in November. Subsequent breathing surgery needs to spark a resurgence. Has had wind surgery since the flop when well backed at Cheltenham on his British debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (3) (7/2 +30%) Hudson De Grugy |
7/2(+30%) | (3) Hudson De Grugy 7/2, Course winner who resumed after 7 months off/wind surgery with a respectable third of 8 in handicap chase here (15.4f, soft, 9/2) 69 days ago. Merits consideration now back up in distance. 4-9 at Sandown; his only race beyond about 2m4f was not conclusive proof of his stamina. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (14/1 -17%) Fern Hill |
14/1(-17%) | (2) Fern Hill 14/1, Deservedly got his head in front over fences at Uttoxeter (22.5f) over a year ago. Finally returned to that level when third at Chepstow on his comeback but pulled up (had wind op and tongue tied) at Lingfield since. Needs to get back on track. Wind op and tongue tied when pulled up last month, perhaps with 3m5f playing a part. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
C&D winner ANIMAL arrives here on the back of a highly-encouraging second in the Surrey National at Lingfield last month and he can race off the same rating here. Suzy Smith's gelding is in great heart and could be the one to beat. Hudson De Grugy returned from a 223-day break, after undergoing wind surgery, to finish a fair third over an extended 1m7f here last time and is an interesting contender taking a big step up in distance. Special Acceptance is worth a second look in first-time blinkers.
A few of these arrive with question marks against them so this looks a good opportunity for ANIMAL to quickly resume winning ways and bag a second C&D success. Course-scorer Hudson de Grugy is feared most if, as expected, building on his reappearance third here over a much shorter trip, while the consistent duo Copperhead and Special Acceptance need factoring in too.
Placenet returns after the flop on his British debut and he's had wind surgery. The solid alternative is the in-form ANIMAL.

1st (3) (8/11 +73%) Titan Discovery |
8/11(+73%) | (3) Titan Discovery 8/11, Runner-up in 2 bumpers last spring and going the right way over hurdles, making a successful switch to handicaps at Ascot (2m, good to soft) in December and finding only the thrown-in Jingko Blue too strong over C&D subsequently. Every chance of resuming winning ways. Found only a Henderson-trained favourite too hot in ten-runner C&D handicap (good to soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8/1 -33%) Classic Lord |
8/1(-33%) | (1) Classic Lord 8/1, Useful on Flat and came good over hurdles for his new yard when landing a brace of novices at Fontwell (2¼m) and Bangor (2m) before Christmas. A shade underwhelming when fifth on his handicap debut at Aintree but he was racing from 5 lb out of the weights that day. Twice in novices at 2m1f/2m on heavy; faded markedly in 2m4f handicap on soft, however. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (22/1 -389%) Valens Bruyee |
22/1(-389%) | (6) Valens Bruyee 22/1, Left previous efforts in this sphere well behind back down markedly in trip when getting off the mark in a 11-runner novice at Chepstow (2m, heavy) 22 days ago. That form is nothing out of the ordinary, though, and more will be needed to follow up on handicap debut. 50-1 when he won by nearly 10l in 11-runner novice at Chepstow (2m, heavy) three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (4/1 -78%) Wal Buck's |
4/1(-78%) | (5) Wal Buck's 4/1, Has made an encouraging start to his hurdle career, again shaping well when neck second of 6 in novice hurdle (9/4) at Leicester (15.5f, heavy) 36 days ago. Makes handicap debut up in trip and open to further improvement. Beaten a neck in Leicester novice (1m7f, heavy) last time, making most and keeping on well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (7/1 -40%) Storming Nelson |
7/1(-40%) | (2) Storming Nelson 7/1, Unpromising in points but going the right way under Rules, showing much improved form to get off the mark in 10-runner novice at Exeter (16.7f) 45 days ago. Into handicaps now and may do better still. Exeter novice win (2m, heavy); the sort to gallop on and there's stamina on the dam's side. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (20/1 -100%) Hard Rain |
20/1(-100%) | (4) Hard Rain 20/1, Shed his maiden status in a 17f Limerick handicap hurdle in July. Proved as good as ever when runner-up back there in October but found run of good form coming to a halt at Thurles the following month and has since left Padraig Butler. Off the mark at Limerick in July and three places in the mud over 2m7f, 2m5f and 2m since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
VALENS BRUYEE was mightily impressive when bolting up by nine-and-a-half lengths over 2m at Chepstow last month at a big price. Rebecca Curtis' gelding could have plenty more to offer now that he has got his head in front and is taken to defy his opening mark of 107. Titan Discovery has finished in the top two on each of his last three starts and is likely to be in contention once more, while Wal Buck's is an interesting contender on his handicap debut.
TITAN DISCOVERY has upped his game appreciably since being switched to handicaps and, having found only a thrown-in rival too good over C&D on his most outing, he's well worth siding with to resume winning ways. Wal Buck's and Storming Nelson are a pair of interesting handicap debutants, particularly the former who again shaped with plenty of promise when narrowly denied at Leicester last month.
C&D runner-up Titan Discovery faces some promising graduates from novice hurdles, with STORMING NELSON preferred to Wal Buck's.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
