Ali Shuffle, Maaleezmagic and Piccalina all have something to recommend them on paper and are notable options for a shortlist. However, SUCKING DIESEL showed up well for a long way in the Brocklesby at Doncaster and is entitled to be a lot wiser with that experience to draw upon. Assuming the daughter of Aclaim handles the stalls procedure a little better, a more accomplished performance can be expected.
The only one of these to have raced is SUCKING DIESEL, who showed promise when eighth in the Brocklesby, and she earns the vote.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Groundhog |
7/2(+50%) | (4) Groundhog 7/2, Beaten 6l in a maiden over 5f at Beverley last time out in September; hood first time; up in trip; not badly treated on handicap debut Hasn't achieved much but the first-time hood could help on this handicap/seasonal debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) ![]() Ottoman |
16/1(-60%) | (6) Ottoman 16/1, Down the field in a nursery over 7f at Galway most recent run back in October; had run quite well in nurseries last summer; up in trip; dangerous if returns to best of falling mark 0-7 in Ireland last year but case can be made on best form; watch betting on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) ![]() Amber Honey |
12/1(+0%) | (10) Amber Honey 12/1, Beaten 8l in a novice over 7f at Wolverhampton last time; poor previous start and promise debut now looks flattering; up in trip; bit to find Yet to build on debut promise but things may well click again on this first handicap start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) ![]() Keats House |
5/1(+9%) | (1) Keats House 5/1, Below par beaten 5l in a nursery over 5f at Newcastle last time; generally out of form after useful maiden run at Ripon second start; hood first time; returning from a break; plenty to prove No threat in either nursery but the first-time hood and step up in trip may be positives. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) ![]() Hashtagnotions |
7/2(-17%) | (11) Hashtagnotions 7/2, Landed a handicap by a neck off 51 at Newcastle last time after a series of solid efforts; this is a poor race and may follow-up despite 2lb rise Two wins at Newcastle from last four starts; strong claims if he's just as good on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) ![]() Ardaddy |
20/1(-43%) | (2) Ardaddy 20/1, Below par beaten 8l in a handicap over 6f at Newcastle last time; consistent in novices prior to that; up in trip; not out of it Has shown ability but he finished last on his recent handicap debut at Newcastle. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Being fitted with a visor helped HASHTAGNOTIONS win two of his last four starts on all weather and as he reverts to turf on a workable rating, Richard Fahey's gelding can play another strong role if the application continues to keep him focused. Flamborough Head has also shown enough to suggest he can be a player if handling the step up from 7f to a mile. Groundhog and Keats House complete the shortlist.
The step up in trip could be a firm plus for AMBER HONEY and she's the pick ahead of fellow handicap newcomer Hill O Rue.

15/2(-114%) | (5) Pallas Lord 15/2, Game when scored by 3/4l off 61 at Newcastle three starts back; second beaten a head off 66 last time backing that run up; ought to go well In rude health on AW and won a division of this in 2022; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (9) ![]() Ideal Guest |
14/1(+36%) | (9) Ideal Guest 14/1, Made too much use of down the field in a handicap at Newcastle most recent effort and out of form since long break following Yarmouth win off 67 in 2023; plenty to prove Struggled on his three runs towards the end of last year, following an absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (8) ![]() Quintus Arrius |
20/1(+9%) | (8) Quintus Arrius 20/1, Below par down the field in a handicap over 6f at Newcastle most recent run; returning from a break, not proven trip and somewhat out of form Mark continues to fall but this regressive 5yo needs to halt the slide. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
PALLAS LORD won the penultimate staging of this race in a gutsy manner and the seven-year-old, who has enjoyed a profitable all-weather season, can repeat the feat despite running off 4lb higher. Admittedly, there are several others who can have a big say, including handicap-debutant Toralou, whose recent second in a novice stakes at Newcastle has a solid appearance. Stratocracy, Roaring Ralph and Ahamoment are other each-way options.
Preference is for PALLAS LORD, who has been in rude health on the AW of late and won a division of this race in 2022.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) ![]() Hale End |
16/1(+11%) | (10) Hale End 16/1, Below par down the field in a handicap at Newcastle most recent start in October; in much better form than that last summer and mark is fair; top course jockey takes ride Two wins last season and his reappearance record suggests he could have a part to play. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (9) ![]() Empire Of Light |
22/1(-144%) | (9) Empire Of Light 22/1, Ran to form fourth beaten 7 1/4l in a handicap over 7f at Doncaster latest start in October and very consistent prior to that; up in trip (does stay) and off a break Often ran well last season (including over C&D); one to be interested in on return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
BAREFOOT WARRIOR chased home a couple of useful rivals home on his debut and is unbeaten in two starts since, the latest of those coming at Newcastle in September. The son of Saxon Warrior has a layoff to overcome but, if ready to roll, an opening mark of 87 looks well within range. Good Morning Alex has gone well fresh previously so is considered, along with the George Boughey-trained Classic Encounter.

200/1(+0%) | (9) One True Thing 200/1, Probably needed race well beaten in a novice over 8f at Newcastle second start, but well beaten debut at two; up in trip; all to prove Big odds and beaten a long way on his first two starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CONVERGENT was a comfortable winner over a mile here on debut but Karl Burke's colt, who holds an entry in the 2000 Guineas, should be even better now upped in trip and is expected to prove difficult to beat. Debutant Colinski is related to a couple of winners and could pick up some minor money, while Without Burlington should relish a switch to turf.
This looks a good opportunity for course novice winner CONVERGENT to make it 2-2. Newcomer Colinski is feared most.

LECHUGA LAD finished a creditable third at Wolverhampton last month considering he failed to settle. James Fanshawe's inmate has plenty of scope for improvement having only his second outing in a handicap, and could be bang there at the finish on his turf debut, with an apprentice's 3lb allowance further helping his cause. Titainium ran well for second here last autumn and returns to action with a shout, while Capla Lazarus should be noted making his handicap debut.
A case can be made for several and ELEMENTAL EYE is just a tentative choice now back on a good mark with conditions to suit.

HAWKESBURY LEGEND came up against a progressive sort when runner-up at Wolverhampton on his handicap bow. This looks less competitive and the son of Nathaniel is fancied to launch a serious challenge off his current mark. Salaria went close over today's distance at Newcastle on her penultimate start and rates a threat if reproducing that effort, while Aurelius Maximus will likely appreciate this extra test of stamina now handicapping and it would be no surprise if he proves competitive.
Ths is the racecard key.
