Dark Crusade |
(3) (4/1 +38%)4/1(+38%) | (3) Dark Crusade 4/1, Has proved consistent across 6 starts to date, again faring creditably when 1¾ lengths fourth of 10 to Opal Storm in handicap at Carlisle (5f, good to firm) 21 days ago. Sound place claims again. Lightly raced 3yo; behind Opal Storm at Carlisle latest; needs more but that's possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Autumn Flight |
(10) (4/1 +75%)4/1(+75%) | (10) Autumn Flight 4/1, Not disgraced when fourth of 7 in handicap (7/1) at Catterick (6f, soft) 5 days ago and has good-value claimer aboard, but others still appeal as likelier winners. 0-8 for this yard but has run some fair races; return to 5f not enough to tempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Yazaman |
(9) (6/1 +14%)6/1(+14%) | (9) Yazaman 6/1, One win from 34 Flat runs. Turned best effort the season over C&D on penultimate outing and would have finished a touch closer with a cleaner run when fourth of 11 in handicap at Catterick (6f, good, 13/2) 51 days ago. Not the most reliable but player if in same form. No win since debut but threatening at a low level this summer, including over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Opal Storm |
(8) (9/2 +18%)9/2(+18%) | (8) Opal Storm 9/2, Improved to spring a 66/1 surprise in 10-runner handicap at Carlisle (5f, good to firm) at the start of this month and looked unlucky not to finish closer when fourth of 14 in handicap at Redcar (5f, good) 9 days ago. Ranks high on the shortlist. Improved efforts the last twice; met some trouble latest; yet to reach her ceiling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Blazing Hot |
(2) (12/1 -20%)12/1(-20%) | (2) Blazing Hot 12/1, Second over C&D in June and wasn't disgraced from falling mark when third of 7 in handicap at Doncaster (5f, soft) 68 days ago. First run for yard after leaving David C. Griffiths. Cheekpieces back on. Probably needs a couple of these to falter. 0-21 on turf but he's a regular AW winner and starts out for new yard on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Smooch |
(11) (14/1 +30%)14/1(+30%) | (11) Smooch 14/1, Has struggled across 3 starts in handicap company and though she's got fewer miles on the clock than most of her rivals here, she'll need to improve to figure. First two runs this season were promising but backward steps since; drops back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tilia Cordata |
(7) (14/1 -180%)14/1(-180%) | (7) Tilia Cordata 14/1, Improved on recent efforts to sharing spoils in 6-runner handicap (6/1) at Salisbury (5f, good) 49 days ago. Has to be taken seriously from 3 lb higher mark, despite widest draw. Tenth time lucky when dead-heating at Salisbury seven weeks ago; this is tougher up 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Van Gerwen |
(5) (15/2 +53%)15/2(+53%) | (5) Van Gerwen 15/2, Four-time C&D winner, including when opening his account for the year here in August. Not in same form in a pair of outings since, though wouldn't be out of it if able to bounce back. Loves it here and won well last month but it won't be easy trying to dominate today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Granny B |
(6) (16/1 -14%)16/1(-14%) | (6) Granny B 16/1, Fifth of 7 in claimer at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 45 days ago, again very slowly away. First run for yard after leaving John Quinn. Hood on 1st time. Hard to have faith in until issues at stalls are rectified. 0-10 for John Quinn; developing an aversion to the stalls and best watched on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Secret Equity |
(14) (20/1 +9%)20/1(+9%) | (14) Secret Equity 20/1, Well held both starts this year. Eyeshields on 1st time. Needs a couple of these to falter. Chance on last season's best but well held in two runs in 2023, eight months apart. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Glory Hallelujah |
(12) (25/1 -108%)25/1(-108%) | (12) Glory Hallelujah 25/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. Eighth of 10 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good to soft, 11/2) 12 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. On a workable mark but needs to shrug off a pair of poor recent efforts, Two fair runs last month but he's finished down the field in two runs in September. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brother Sebastian |
(4) (25/1 -56%)25/1(-56%) | (4) Brother Sebastian 25/1, Gone the wrong way since switching to handicaps, down the field agan at Nottingham on Tuesday. Plenty to find on form. This is easier than Tuesday's Nottingham assignment but he's still easy enough to swerve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cubanista |
(1) (28/1 -75%)28/1(-75%) | (1) Cubanista 28/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. First run since leaving Pam Sly when tenth of 15 in handicap (50/1) at Thirsk (7f, soft) 10 days ago. Down in trip. Must improve. Well beaten on recent stable debut and he needs to turn things around quickly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tommytwohoots |
(13) (50/1 -52%)50/1(-52%) | (13) Tommytwohoots 50/1, Twelve runs since sole win in 2022. Runner-up at Catterick (5f, heavy) in April but failed to beat a rival there on next start. Best watched after 155 days off. Sole success came on AW (6f); off since a poor run at Catterick in April; best watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
DARK CRUSADE has run with plenty of credit on both starts this season and the lightly-raced gelding remains open to further improvement in his bid to shed the maiden tag. Tilia Cordata forced a dead-heat at Salisbury on her latest outing and she is likely to go well despite a 3lb rise. The shortlist is completed by Yazaman and Opal Storm.
OPAL STORM took a notable step forward when scoring at Carlisle earlier in the month and shaped as if still on a fair mark at Redcar last time, so she's taken to get the better of the high-drawn Tilia Cordata, who produced a career best when dead-heating at Salisbury last time. Dark Crusade was in the frame behind the selection at Carlisle and can give a good account again.
Blazing Hot is interesting on his stable debut but OPAL STORM is on the up and she can register her second win.

Flavour Maker |
(2) (2/1 -14%)2/1(-14%) | (2) Flavour Maker 2/1, Left debut form well behind when second of 13 in maiden at Windsor (6f, good to firm, 8/1) 24 days ago, staying on well. Holds leading claims with further progress to come. Kept on for second at Windsor and this stiffer track should work in his favour. |

Goldingreatstore |
(4) (4/1 +80%)4/1(+80%) | (4) Goldingreatstore 4/1, Foaled February 28. €16,000 foal, €30,000 yearling, Ten Sovereigns colt. Dam unraced out of smart winner up to 7f (2-y-o 6f winner) Mashoora. Yard capable of readying a newcomer. Dam unraced half-sister to French winners Tasleya (6f 2yo) and Adabeyaat (7f/1m1f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sala Da Ballo |
(10) (6/1 +14%)6/1(+14%) | (10) Sala Da Ballo 6/1, Better than the distance beaten suggests when fourth of 10 in minor event at Yarmouth (6f, good to soft, 5/1) 9 days ago, weakening only late on having raced freely. Capable of better still. Beaten 4l by a decent prospect last week at Yarmouth and should be on the scene. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Quantum Force |
(7) (7/2 +56%)7/2(+56%) | (7) Quantum Force 7/2, Some encouragement first time up when fifth of 11 in minor event at Lingfield (6f, AW, 10/1) in June, despite having not been ideally placed. Can take a step forward from that initial experience. Outpaced over 6f on the AW and there were some modest horses ahead of him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kings Merchant |
(6) (11/1 +8%)11/1(+8%) | (6) Kings Merchant 11/1, Only narrowly denied at Newcastle on debut, but went backwards from that effort when sixth of 13 in maiden at Thirsk (6f, good to soft, 4/1) 41 days ago. Not discounted given the promise of his first start. Only midfield at Thirsk last time but positives to take from near miss on AW debut. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Invincible Navy |
(5) (33/1 -175%)33/1(-175%) | (5) Invincible Navy 33/1, Still green but shaped better than on debut when fifth of 13 in maiden at Windsor (6f, good to firm, 66/1) 24 days ago, late headway. Will need to find more again. Has a bit to find with Flavour Maker on their Windsor encounter this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Triggerman |
(13) (33/1 -371%)33/1(-371%) | (13) Triggerman 33/1, Still in need of experience but improved from debut when second of 9 in minor event (12/1) at Newcastle (6f) 56 days ago, just failing having been slowly away. Can make his presence felt. Went close at Newcastle but the winner has been beaten in modest nurseries. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Rebel Icon |
(8) (50/1 -150%)50/1(-150%) | (8) Rebel Icon 50/1, Related to several winners but finished well held when last of 7 in minor event (20/1) at York (6f, good) on debut 18 days ago. May be one for further down the line. Showed some early dash before weakening to finish last of the seven over this far at York. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Renovate |
(9) (50/1 -127%)50/1(-127%) | (9) Renovate 50/1, Shaped better than the result when tenth of 12 in minor event (18/1) at this C&D (good to soft) on debut a week ago, running green before meeting some trouble over 1f out. Entitled to progress. Suffered some interference when down the field here last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Forest Gunner |
(3) (100/1 -100%)100/1(-100%) | (3) Forest Gunner 100/1, Raced too freely when last of 12 in minor event (14/1) at this C&D (good to soft) on debut a week ago, forcing pace before headed 2f out. Will need to have learnt plenty from that first run. Led early but was too free and dropped out to finish last here a week ago (good to soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On The Sherbet |
(14) (200/1 -150%)200/1(-150%) | (14) On The Sherbet 200/1, Never a threat on her first outing when eighth of 12 in minor event at this C&D (good to soft, 66/1) a week ago. Looks one for the longer term. Always behind when 15l off the principals here last week; one for another day. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
FLAVOUR MAKER stepped forward from his racecourse bow when filling the runner-up spot at Windsor earlier this month. That performance sets a fairly decent standard and he wouldn't need to improve much to get off the mark. Triggerman is capable of being in the mix following his second at Newcastle last month, while Sala Da Ballo appeals most of the remainder.
FLAVOUR MAKER was much sharper on his second start when runner-up at Windsor earlier this month and he can continue his progress to get off the mark. The main danger could be Triggerman, who also improved from his debut when just failing at Newcastle on his latest outing, while Quantum Force is another who merits consideration.
Roger Varian's FLAVOUR MAKER should appreciate this stiffer track after running on into second at Windsor.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Empire Of Art benefited from the experience gained on debut when getting off the mark at Windsor last month. However, the son of Best Solution will need to improve again if he is to back that performance up under a penalty. The vote, therefore, goes to MAGICO, who is likely to appreciate a step up in trip following his third at Epsom. Zayina and Sayalittleprayer can fight it out for the minor honours.
MAGICO seems the type to go on improving with experience so gets the vote over Zayina, who offered something to work on at Beverley. Penalised winner Empire of Art is another to consider.
Preference is for the filly ZAYINA, who did well to finish fourth on her debut at Beverley last month having been caught wide.

Theoryofeverything |
(3) (4/1 +33%)4/1(+33%) | (3) Theoryofeverything 4/1, Created a taking impression when making a winning debut in 7f Doncaster novice (heavy) in April. Yet to build on that though and was below form sporting first-time cheekpieces at Goodwood (9.9f, soft) 8 weeks ago. Needs to get back on track. Needs a step forward but this 3yo is in top hands and things could click at some point. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Chriszoff |
(4) (5/1 -50%)5/1(-50%) | (4) Chriszoff 5/1, 3 wins from 5 runs this year, latest at Ayr in July. 5/6, good second of 5 in handicap at Ayr (10f, heavy) a couple of months ago. Open to further improvement and first-time cheekpieces may well eke out that bit extra. Player. Denied four-timer most recently but still ran well and this 3yo is a key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Auld Toon Loon |
(5) (6/1 +8%)6/1(+8%) | (5) Auld Toon Loon 6/1, Latest win at Chester in July. 10/3, shaped as if still right at the top of his game when seventh of 8 in handicap at Ayr (10f, good to soft) 7 days ago, going well when not clear run from 2f out. Two wins in the summer and this lightly raced 4yo could still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
First Impression |
(2) (9/1 -80%)9/1(-80%) | (2) First Impression 9/1, Latest win at Chester in August and ran at least as well in defeat when second of 10 in handicap there (10.3f, soft, 4/1) 12 days ago, running on. Looks back to his very best and has to be taken seriously. In top form at Chester and also effective elsewhere; can give another good account. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
King Lear |
(1) (13/8 +35%)13/8(+35%) | (1) King Lear 13/8, Off the mark second time up at Nottingham and ran at least as well in defeat when runner-up at Goodwood (9.9f, good to firm, 4/6) 23 days ago, better placed than most. Should have more to offer and he's of serious interest now handicapping. Has shown considerable promise and this unexposed 3yo brings potential to his h'cap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lightening Company |
(6) (15/2 +46%)15/2(+46%) | (6) Lightening Company 15/2, C&D winner in April. 9/2, third of 5 in handicap at Doncaster (10.2f, good to soft) 12 days ago, slowly away. Likely he will find a few too strong. Seen to good effect when winning over C&D in April and not ruled out now back here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Baryshnikov |
(7) (20/1 -135%)20/1(-135%) | (7) Baryshnikov 20/1, C&D winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. Seventh of 10 in handicap (5/1) at Chester (10.3f, soft) 12 days ago. Seems to have gone off the boil of late, so best to look elsewhere. Well handicapped on form as recent as June but not at the same level more recently. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A chance is taken on LIGHTENING COMPANY, who has been dropped 1lb in the ratings after running into a modest third in a handicap at Doncaster last time. He can make his presence felt. Ben Haslam's charge was slowly away on that occasion and he is likely to be seen in a better light should he get off on terms. First Impression rates as the biggest danger to the selection following his second over the extended 1m2f at Chester, while Theoryofeverything also commands respect.
FIRST IMPRESSION has looked back to something like his very best in recent starts so John Quinn's 6-y-o is fancied to notch a sixth career victory at the expense of King Lear, who went down fighting behind a progressive one returning from a long absence at Goodwood earlier this month and he should have more to offer now handicapping. Chriszoff and Theoryofeverything can do battle for third spot.
The 3yo CHRISZOFF has improved with each of his five starts, posting three wins in the process, and he's taken to land another one.

Had her winning run ended up in grade when second of 10 in nursery (7/1) at Yarmouth (6f, soft) 7 days ago, clear of rest. Sure to remain competitive in this similar company. Thriving in nurseries; only second last week but clear of the third; may do better yet. |

Free Nation |
(3) (11/1 -38%)11/1(-38%) | (3) Free Nation 11/1, Hooded for 1st time, possibly unsuited by conditions when ninth of 12 in minor event at Newbury (6f, good, 7/2) 10 weeks ago. Soveraine |
(9) (66/1 -136%)66/1(-136%) | (9) Soveraine 66/1, Runner-up over C&D on debut in June but beaten in excess of 77 lengths combined since, well held on nursery debut at Leicester (6f, good to firm) on latest. Would take a significant leap of faith to get involved. Went close over C&D on debut but not come close to that level since; lots to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ANOTHER GIFT has been a model of consistency of late and she was denied a four-timer recently by a well-handicapped rival. This looks a good opportunity to get back to winning ways as Ed Dunlop's charge was a clear second at Yarmouth and there could be more in the locker. Last-time-out winner Beyond Borders is feared most after winning a competitive Racing League contest over 6f at Wolverhampton, while better can be expected of Whoop Whoop.
It's tough to get away from BEYOND BORDERS, who showed improved form to resume winning ways at Wolverhampton 3 weeks ago and Karl Burke's colt can continue his upward trajectory returned to turf. Another Gift had her winning run ended at Yarmouth last week but remains in top form so heads up the dangers, with Whoop Whoop and Swordplay completing the shortlist.
Swordplay is respected but fellow topweight BEYOND BORDERS (nap) is taken to defy a 6lb rise for his Wolverhampton success.

(4) (11/4 -46%)11/4(-46%) | (4) Rogue Tornado 11/4, Opened account at this C&D in July. Upped further in trip, found only a well-handicapped rival too strong when second of 11 in handicap at Salisbury (14.2f, good, 5/2) 49 days ago. Major player. Bumped into a sharp improver last time; progressing himself and still well treated. |

Myboymax |
(5) (11/1 -38%)11/1(-38%) | (5) Myboymax 11/1, Made more impact than previously this season when second of 6 in handicap at Thirsk (14f, good to soft, 11/1) 19 days ago. Lurks on a dangerous mark, so he's shortlisted with cheekpieces reapplied. Finally showed more this year when a length runner-up at Thirsk (1m6f). |

Night Life |
(7) (14/1 +58%)14/1(+58%) | (7) Night Life 14/1, Upped in trip, raced freely when fifth of 7 in handicap (22/1) at Ripon (12f, good to firm) 23 days ago. Bred to stay this far but will need to settle better if she's to be effective at this distance. Remains a maiden (0-10) and was only fifth of seven over this far at Ripon latest. |

Gift Of Raaj |
(3) (25/1 -56%)25/1(-56%) | (3) Gift Of Raaj 25/1, After 5 months off, below form when fourth of 5 in handicap (8/1) at Catterick (13.9f, soft) 16 days ago, despite having been well positioned. Rhyme Scheme |
(9) (150/1 -127%)150/1(-127%) | (9) Rhyme Scheme 150/1, Struggled for form on the Flat last year. Made no impression when fifth of 9 in handicap hurdle (11/1) at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good) when last seen in June. Best watched back on the level. Dual winner but 0-14 for this yard and has been struggling over hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A taking winner over C&D on his penultimate start, ROGUE TORNADO has since run with credit over further, and he remains on a workable mark with Ross Coakley taking over in the saddle. He is narrowly preferred to Dashing Panther, who has done very well since upped to this distance and conditions look to be in his favour once more. Gift Of Raaj and Myboymax are capable of being in the shake-up too.
Having got off the mark at this C&D in July, ROGUE TORNADO bumped into one who is thriving when runner-up at Salisbury last time, so he is taken to resume winning ways back at this venue. Dashing Panther is respected having shown improved form upped to this trip in handicaps, with Myboymax completing the shortlist.
Tom Clover's ROGUE TORNADO might be the answer provided a sound surface isn't important to him.

(5) (5/2 +44%)5/2(+44%) | (5) Milbanke 5/2, 6/1, creditable fourth of 11 in handicap at Doncaster (6f, heavy) 54 days ago, never nearer. First run for yard after leaving Ruth Carr and he's one to be interested in from this mark. Conditions shouldn't be an issue and he starts out for a new yard off a handy mark; chance. |

Roundhay Park |
(1) (9/1 +10%)9/1(+10%) | (1) Roundhay Park 9/1, C&D winner. 3 wins from 12 runs this year, latest at Ripon in August. Ran one of lesser races when last of 11 in handicap at Chester (7f, soft, 12/1) 13 days ago. Needs to bounce back quickly but can. Having a good year and conditions should suit; one to take seriously. |

Tribal Hunter |
(4) (10/3 +49%)10/3(+49%) | (4) Tribal Hunter 10/3, Won at Hamilton on second start in August 2022 and ran creditably under his penalty when fifth of 10 in minor event at Newcastle (6f) next time. Not seen for 13 months and needs a market check ahead of this handicap debut. Promise as a 2yo but not raced for 391 days; market should be revealing. |

King's Crown |
(7) (14/1 +22%)14/1(+22%) | (7) King's Crown 14/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. 10/1, below form after 10 weeks off when seventh of 12 in handicap at Chester (6.1f, soft) 13 days ago. Will need to leave that effort well behind. Dropped a long way in the weights this year; handy draw and revival could be imminent. |

The Dunkirk Lads |
(8) (17/2 +29%)17/2(+29%) | (8) The Dunkirk Lads 17/2, Below form fifth of 11 in handicap at Doncaster (5.6f, good, 15/2) 11 days ago. Capable from this sort of mark but he's tough to predict. In and out since his Beverley win in April but that run shows what he's capable of. |

Shandy Star |
(2) (28/1 -180%)28/1(-180%) | (2) Shandy Star 28/1, C&D winner. 20/1, failed to come on for recent run when last of 7 in handicap at this C&D (good to soft) 7 days ago. Others look stronger. Yet to shine after ten months off; conditions fine but others look stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Trilby |
(9) (66/1 -230%)66/1(-230%) | (9) Trilby 66/1, 50/1, possibly needed the run on first run since leaving George Boughey after 4 months off when fourth of 7 in minor event at Catterick (7f, good) 29 days ago. This should reveal what ability remains. Satisfactory stable debut four weeks ago and return to 6f a plus; mark looks high enough. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An intriguing recruit to the Julie Camacho stable, MILBANKE ran with plenty of credit on his most recent start at Doncaster and, with previous form over C&D to call upon, the son of Intello can get back to winning ways. A taking winner over C&D on her penultimate outing, Emily Post commands attention along with Mersea, who has been in consistent form of late.
A tricky closing contest to solve but the vote goes to MILBANKE, who was narrowly beaten when fourth at Doncaster last month and, having moved to Julie Camacho since, he's one to be interested in from this mark with a valuable 3 lb claimer taking over in the plate. Emily Post has got her act together since the hood went on so she heads up the dangers, ahead of Mersea and the enigmatic Roundhay Park.
A trappy event but MERSEA ran creditably behind useful fillies over C&D last week and she could be the answer in a weaker race.
Ths is the racecard key.
