1st (1) (4/9 +40%) Iceo |
4/9(+40%) | (1) Iceo 4/9, Lightly raced over hurdles but useful form, winning the Imperial Cup at Sandown in March. Trip too far there following month. Of obvious interest on chase bow. 3-7 over hurdles including Imperial Cup win in March; good prospect for chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/4 -13%) Mount Tempest |
9/4(-13%) | (3) Mount Tempest 9/4, Promising hurdler who took a big step forward when notching up a second win in 2m Warwick handicap in March. Shaped as if amiss following month and off since. Chase debut. Inconsistent over hurdles last season but won twice; had wind op; makes chase debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (10/1 -43%) Timeforatune |
10/1(-43%) | (2) Timeforatune 10/1, Smart bumper performer who left hurdles debut effort well behind when making all in 15-runner Exeter novice. Steady progress since, resuming winning ways under a penalty at Taunton on final start for Paul Nicholls in December (sold £12,000 in June). 2-5 in novice hurdles for Paul Nicholls last season; makes stable/chase/handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Last season's Imperial Cup winner ICEO failed to stay when stepped up in trip at Sandown in April. The five-year-old looks the sort who could take his form to the next level now making his debut over fences and is fancied to take this contest en route to bigger things. His former stablemate Timeforatune is feared most now under the tutelage of Evan Williams, while Mount Tempest could also improve now tackling the larger obstacles.
An excellent opportunity for Imperial Cup winner ICEO to make a winning start over fences with Mount Tempest (shaped as if amiss in April) and Timeforatune (sold for only £12,000 from Paul Nicholls in June) arriving with something to prove.
All three runners are good chasing prospects. MOUNT TEMPEST looked good over hurdles at Warwick in March and gets the vote.

1st (7) (5/2 +17%) Foxey |
5/2(+17%) | (7) Foxey 5/2, Showed fair form in bumpers and over hurdles for James Ewart in 2020/21. Shaped as though he retains ability when returning from a 26-month layoff on debut for this yard at Worcester (2m, soft) and likely to be sharper now. Not disgraced on recent stable debut, after a long absence, and can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (5/1 +0%) Idilico |
5/1(+0%) | (4) Idilico 5/1, Latest success was registered off a 2 lb higher mark at Perth last summer. Mixed bag since and was well held on recent debut for this yard on the Flat, but he will be a threat if he puts his best foot forward. Safely held on the Flat for new stable last month but won twice over hurdles last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (9/1 +73%) Ocean Reach |
9/1(+73%) | (8) Ocean Reach 9/1, Modest on Flat and just poor form at best over hurdles. Looks up against it from 14 lb out of the weights here. Modest third in this grade at Stratford last month and has each-way claims again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4/1 +60%) Peaceful Sunday |
4/1(+60%) | (3) Peaceful Sunday 4/1, Fair ex-Irish winner who posted his best effor for his current yard when fourth of 8 at Stratford (18.7f, good) on penultimate start. Failed to build on that upped to 23f at Worcester next time and now tried in a tongue strap. Not at best this season but ran fairly well in this grade last month and is on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (17/2 -143%) Absolute Ruler |
17/2(-143%) | (2) Absolute Ruler 17/2, Fair Flat winner who built on hurdles debut promise when accounting for 6 rivals in 2m Huntingdon maiden at the end of May. Disappointing on latest start in this sphere in July, though, and subsequent spin on the level was hardly encouraging. Won Huntingdon maiden in May but flopped in modest seller on latest hurdling start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (7/2 -27%) Systemic |
7/2(-27%) | (6) Systemic 7/2, Gained breakthrough over hurdles in a 2m Plumpton handicap in May 2022. Shaped pretty well when bidding to win that same race on return this year and while his subsequent efforts haven't been up to scratch, he has to be considered in a race of this nature. Inconsistent and regressive but probably still good enough for this grade if in right mood. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (18/1 +10%) Kalma |
18/1(+10%) | (5) Kalma 18/1, Winner on the Flat and off mark over hurdles for Alan King at Exeter in April 2022. However, failed to complete on 3 of his 4 starts for this yard in the second half of last year and fair bit to prove here back from a 12-month absence. In contention when carried out on stable debut in July but form has nosedived since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
With solid recent form thin on the ground, a tentative vote goes to six-year-old SYSTEMIC. Gary Moore's gelding performed well on testing ground when runner-up off the same mark at Huntingdon a couple of seasons ago. Absolute Ruler is another to consider judged on the pick of his form over hurdles this season, while Idilico could appreciate a drop in trip having failed to see out 2m4f at Perth in August.
It's reasonable to expect FOXEY to come on for his comeback run at Worcester where he was returning from a lengthy absence and, granted a more assured round of jumping here, the 8-y-o can make his second start for the Olly Murphy yard a winning one. Systemic is clear second choice ahead of Idilico.

1st (1) (50/1 +0%) Afta Party |
50/1(+0%) | (1) Afta Party 50/1, Fairly useful Flat winner for Alice Haynes but failed to better modest form over hurdles for Syd Hosie and left that yard after finishing well held back on the Flat in July. Placed in low-grade handicap here in June but has a lot to find on this stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (6/5 +36%) Roger Pol |
6/5(+36%) | (6) Roger Pol 6/5, Runner-up in an Irish point and went one better on Rules/bumper debut at Worcester (2m) last October. Doubled his tally when last seen at Huntingdon (15.8f, good to soft) 7 months ago and he looks a likely contender now hurdling. Looked quite useful in bumpers last season and is from a good jumping family. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (9/4 +78%) Prince Imperial |
9/4(+78%) | (5) Prince Imperial 9/4, Some encouragement in all 4 starts over hurdles at the start of the year (for Richard Hughes) and but arrives on the back of a lamentable effort on the Flat at Goodwood (20.4f, soft) a couple of months ago. Must bounce back but can on first start over obstacles for this yard. Useful Flat-racer; placed in two novice hurdles last winter but has a bit to prove now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (66/1 -136%) Wonderweasle |
66/1(-136%) | (11) Wonderweasle 66/1, Sound start to her career when third at Market Rasen last October but failed to match that effort 7 months later when fifth at Plumpton (15.9f, good to firm) in May. Off since and tough to know what to expect. Showed promise on first two hurdling starts but faces tough task on first run since May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (11/1 -83%) Damarta |
11/1(-83%) | (3) Damarta 11/1, Showed more than first time up when third in a Hereford bumper in March and carried over his headstrong tendencies on hurdling debut when fourth at Uttoxeter (15.8f, soft) 5 months ago, very much catching the eye under exaggerated hold-up tactics (rider suspended for 2 weeks). Interesting. Made eyecatching late headway on hurdling debut in May; ought to be capable of better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (8/1 -220%) Colonel Whizz |
8/1(-220%) | (2) Colonel Whizz 8/1, Soldier of Fortune gelding who shaped like a stayer when runner-up in bumper at Market Rasen (16.6f, good) back in May. Looks one to note sent hurdling and is seemingly the choice of Sean Bowen. No match for impressive winner when second of six on bumper debut but still considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (150/1 -127%) No Mean Feat |
150/1(-127%) | (9) No Mean Feat 150/1, Milan gelding who was pulled up sole start in points and given a considerate introduction to hurdles when down the field at Limerick (16f, soft) in July. Has since left Padraig Roche and a first-time tongue strap is applied. Not beaten that far on hurdle debut in Ireland but best watch on first run for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (6/1 -80%) Lone Soldier |
6/1(-80%) | (4) Lone Soldier 6/1, Soldier of Fortune gelding was strong in the betting and shaped with some encouragement first time up when mid-field in a newcomers bumper at Huntingdon (15.8f, good to soft) 8 months ago. Makes hurdles bow (had wind op) and is certainly worth a second look for his top yard. Just a respectable sixth on bumper debut but open to significant improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (40/1 +39%) Blackacre |
40/1(+39%) | (8) Blackacre 40/1, Aided by a good position but still showed ability when third on debut in Ludlow bumper in April. Acquired by new yard for £17,000 in May and probably needed the run making his hurdling debut after 3 months off when well held at this track (21.6f, good) 9 weeks ago. Placed in a bumper but made low-key stable/hurdle debut over C&D in July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (250/1 -25%) Hidden Belle |
250/1(-25%) | (10) Hidden Belle 250/1, Showed nothing in pair of novices hurdles so he's impossible to fancy returning from 10 months off. Well beaten at triple-digit odds in two novice hurdles last autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (50/1 -257%) Vinnie Sparkles |
50/1(-257%) | (7) Vinnie Sparkles 50/1, Won his sole outing in points but proved to be a disappointment on Rules bow when tailed-off last in a bumper at Exeter (16.7f, soft) 6 months ago. Makes hurdles debut and looks yard second-string on jockey bookings. Point winner; flopped badly on bumper debut but can surely do much better. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
COLONEL WHIZZ is a half-brother to a couple of Rules winners and he can be fancied to have been well schooled for his debut over hurdles. Well backed for a bumper at Market Rasen in May, the son of Soldier Of Fortune has given his connections cause for optimism. Afta Party has C&D experience and is feared most, while Damarta, a stablemate of the selection, is also considered.
Olly Murphy saddles a couple of interesting contenders in COLONEL WHIZZ and Damarta and it's the former who gets the narrow vote under Sean Bowen having shaped with plenty of encouragement when runner-up in a Market Rasen bumper back in May. Roger Pol and Lone Solider are another couple of interest representing top yards and they should also be in the mix.

1st (3) (4.5/1 -125%) Jet Plane |
4.5/1(-125%) | (3) Jet Plane 4.5/1, Emphatic winner of 25f Hereford handicap chase in November and better than ever when resuming winning ways at Ludlow in May, making all. Capable of defying 5 lb rise if ready to go. Inconsistent last season but produced good performance to make all at Ludlow in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/1 +9%) Investment Manager |
5/1(+9%) | (5) Investment Manager 5/1, Opened chase account at Exeter (19.2f, heavy) in April and resumed progress in recent months, scoring at here twice before good second here 3 weeks ago. Return to this trip will suit so needs considering. Dual course winner this summer (3m2f/2m5f); versatile regarding ground; likely contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7/2 +50%) Bells Of Peterboro |
7/2(+50%) | (6) Bells Of Peterboro 7/2, Consistent sort who again made the frame when third in 15-runner Chepstow handicap (23.6f) in February, rallying well to gain that place close home. Respectable efforts over hurdles since and given chance by handicapper back over fences. Useful hurdler; took fairly well to chasing last season; resumes on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (6/1 +14%) Tommie Beau |
6/1(+14%) | (1) Tommie Beau 6/1, Dual chase winner in the summer who ran well back over hurdles last time. Others look better treated back over fences, however. Six-time chase winner (once over C&D); ran well over hurdles here last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (12/1 -20%) Favori De Sivola |
12/1(-20%) | (7) Favori De Sivola 12/1, Multiple chase winner but below par both starts this summer for new yard. Mark continues to slide at least. Well beaten on stable debut in August and just a respectable fourth of five last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (5/2 +0%) Fantastikas |
5/2(+0%) | (2) Fantastikas 5/2, Progressive novice chaser last term but disappointing this time around and has a bit to prove. Not much went to plan last season but he's eased in grade here and can get back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (25/1 +0%) Innisfree Lad |
25/1(+0%) | (4) Innisfree Lad 25/1, Third in last year's Eider and back to form from much-reduced mark when landing weak conditional jockeys' veterans' handicap at Hereford in February. Similar form when fifth of 20 at Cheltenham and might have found next run coming too soon. Off 5 months. Veteran stayer; off since poor run in April but not not of this if fully tuned up. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
JET PLANE wasn't fully extended when winning over a similar trip at Ludlow when last seen and, having won two of his six previous starts over fences, he looks the type to make some further progress in this sphere. Tommie Beau has match-fitness on his side and is next best, although Investment Manager is a previous C&D winner who also commands respect.
JET PLANE looked better than ever when making all in good style at Ludlow in May and a 5 lb rise doesn't look insurmountable if backing up that performance. Bells of Peterboro has been given a chance by the handicapper back over fences and is next best ahead of the in-form Investment Manager.
He lost his way last season but FANTASTIKAS (nap), a very useful novice chaser in 2021-22, can exploit this significant ease in grade.

1st (3) (3/1 +0%) Coal Fire |
3/1(+0%) | (3) Coal Fire 3/1, Opened his account at Market Rasen (20.6f) in July and has backed that up with creditable efforts in defeat at Cartmel (2¾m) and Worcester (23f) since. Shapes as though he'll stay this trip and a bold show is anticipated. Placed twice off this mark since 2m4f win in July; looks ready for crack at marathon trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/1 +9%) Fortunate Fred |
5/1(+9%) | (5) Fortunate Fred 5/1, Yet to get his head in front but placed on several occasions and proved his stamina when fourth in a 15-runner handicap over this C&D last time. Very much one to consider off the same mark. 0-9 over hurdles and somewhat frustrating but ran well over C&D in August. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/3 -11%) Ben Lilly |
10/3(-11%) | (1) Ben Lilly 10/3, Useful 7-time Flat winner for David Brown and off the mark in this sphere at the eleventh attempt over C&D (heavy) 10 days ago. This 3 lb higher mark should be manageable and he's a must for the shortlist. Came good over hurdles with C&D win last week and his claims are very obvious. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (10/1 +38%) Astroman |
10/1(+38%) | (2) Astroman 10/1, Belatedly off the mark (fortunate winner) in maiden hurdle at Stratford in May and followed up under a penalty back in a handicap at Fontwell. However, he was beaten 6¼ lengths when fourth to Ben Lilly over C&D recently and there's no real reason to think he'll turn the tables on that rival. Didn't quite last home on heavy ground here ten days ago but that was still a good run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (7/2 +46%) Wot You Wearing |
7/2(+46%) | (6) Wot You Wearing 7/2, Fair in bumpers and left previous hurdles form when narrowly prevailing upped in trip on his handicap debut at Uttoxeter (23.3f, good to soft) where the re-opposing Mactavish was a close-up third. 4 lb rise tolerable and should make his presence felt. Prevailed in three-way photo-finish when upped to 2m7f for recent handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (11/2 +15%) Mactavish |
11/2(+15%) | (7) Mactavish 11/2, Remains a maiden following 11 attempts in this sphere but produced one of his better efforts when putting in good late work to finish a close third to Wot You Wearing at Uttoxeter last month. This further step up in trip should be in his favour and he needs considering. Very close third to Wot You Wearing last month and still unexposed as a stayer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BEST MATE DAVE was 12 lengths clear of the third when denied by a neck over 2m7f at Worcester last time and he could show improvement for this further step up in distance. The son of Passing Glance goes off a 4lb higher mark here, which is unlikely to stop him from going one better. The recent C&D victor Ben Lilly has to be respected in his follow-up bid off only a 3lb higher rating, while Coal Fire will appreciate this step back down in grade.
This looks very trappy indeed and the suggestion is FORTUNATE FRED, who benefited from the step up to this trip when fourth in a big-field handicap here in August and he is appealing off the same mark. Coal Fire is likely to appreciate this stiffer test and he has to be feared, along with recent C&D scorer Ben Lilly.
The answer to a competitive race might be BEST MATE DAVE, who went down fighting against a next-time-out winner at Worcester last time.

1st (1) (2.12/1 +29%) Rambo T |
2.12/1(+29%) | (1) Rambo T 2.12/1, Confirmed previous promise upped in trip when off the mark in 13-runner novice at Chepstow (19.5f) in February and would likely have followed up had he not swerved and unseated late on at Sedgefield next time. Below that level when last seen at Haydock in May but remains low mileage. Promising novice last season and didn't run badly on handicap debut; has more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5.5/1 +50%) Shallow River |
5.5/1(+50%) | (3) Shallow River 5.5/1, Ended his time with Fergal O'Brien with runner-up efforts at Market Rasen and Perth this summer but was below form on debut for new connections at Fontwell last month. Made low-key stable debut last month but current mark is workable; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (12/1 +14%) Mr Muldoon |
12/1(+14%) | (2) Mr Muldoon 12/1, Left tame reappearance well behind when landing a 19.5f handicap hurdle at Chepstow in January. However, couldn't add to that success and his profile has become somewhat patchy in recent years. Returns from 5-month absence. Surprise winner at Chepstow in January but ended last season with some lesser efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (4.5/1 -64%) Sherborne |
4.5/1(-64%) | (7) Sherborne 4.5/1, Returned to form after breathing operation, winning back-to-back handicaps at Ffos Las and over C&D in May. 6 lb higher now but won with something in hand last time and is a big player. Won twice in the spring, after a wind op; obvious contender if in same form after break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (3/1 +25%) Just Loose Change |
3/1(+25%) | (5) Just Loose Change 3/1, Career best when winning 13-runner handicap hurdle at Taunton (19f, soft, 4/1) in April. 8 lb higher on return but further improvement may be forthcoming. Signed off with good win in April; has fitness to prove but further progress is possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (33/1 -32%) Harlem Soul |
33/1(-32%) | (4) Harlem Soul 33/1, Twice a winner over fences last term but ran no sort of race when last seen at Kempton in March and is likely best watched on return over the smaller obstacles here, Both chase runs this year were lacklustre; reverts to hurdling after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (40/1 +20%) Round The Buoy |
40/1(+20%) | (8) Round The Buoy 40/1, Fair winning hurdler for David Dunne but offered little in a couple of starts for this yard. Didn't show much on first two starts for current stable and needs to turn a corner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (18/1 -100%) Howling Milan |
18/1(-100%) | (9) Howling Milan 18/1, Sole win gained in novice company in 2019 and made no impact on first start for 2 years at Uttoxeter recently. Made low-key return from two-year layoff last month but lurks on a dangerous mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (25/1 +50%) Wearapinkribbon |
25/1(+50%) | (10) Wearapinkribbon 25/1, On a lengthy losing run and has plenty on his plate from 13 lb out of the handicap here. Tailed off over 3m2f here in August and 13lb wrong today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (33/1 -267%) Rock The House |
33/1(-267%) | (6) Rock The House 33/1, Right back to his best earlier this summer, completing the hat-trick at Worcester (20f) in June. Below form when last seen in July, however, and starts for new yard off career-high mark. Won three in a row for another stable in June/July; makes stable debut after £7,500 sale. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SHERBORNE scored in comfortable fashion over C&D when last seen in May and that made it a double after his victory at Ffos Las earlier that month. The son of Getaway is 6lb higher than last time but, considering his rapid improvement, he could complete the hat-trick. Just Loose Change returns from a break after his victory at Taunton over 2m3f and he could get involved, while Rambo T will find this easier than his assignment at Haydock last time.
C&D winner SHERBORNE still looks feasibly treated and is fancied to score again. Just Loose Change and Rambo T rate the principal dangers.
With his breathing issues resolved, SHERBORNE got his career back on track with two wins in the spring. He gets the nod.

1st (2) (4.5/1 +68%) Kym Eyre |
4.5/1(+68%) | (2) Kym Eyre 4.5/1, Took well to chasing but her hurdling form is rather uninspiring, pulled up at Southwell 3 months ago. Has a bit to prove. Won gruelling 3m3f chase in April but ran poorly when back hurdling in June. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (6/1 +25%) Caitlin's Court |
6/1(+25%) | (3) Caitlin's Court 6/1, Improved effort over hurdles when returning from 5 months off to win over 18.5f here in May. Off 3 months prior to a disappointing follow-up bid at the track but too soon to write her off. Came good with 8l win here (2m2f, good) in May; a possible if handling today's ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (16/1 -14%) Harthill |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Harthill 16/1, Well held in bumpers and little impact over hurdles, hampered and unseated 3 out at Warwick 142 days ago. Others preferred. Showed only minor promise in her qualifying runs; upped in trip for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (0.83/1 +45%) Lady Berlais |
0.83/1(+45%) | (5) Lady Berlais 0.83/1, Down the field in bumpers but some signs of encouragement over hurdles. Poor effort on final outing for Tom Symonds 6 months ago but well worth a market check starting out for a shrewd stable. Placed in big field on handicap debut in March; now has her first start for Dan Skelton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (6/1 -71%) Ryder's Rock |
6/1(-71%) | (4) Ryder's Rock 6/1, Just modest form over hurdles to date and only seventh of 13 here off stiff opening mark on handicap bow 41 days ago. Still unexposed and longer trip could bring out more. Not bred for this step up in trip but has twice finished second here this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (22/1 -83%) Designer Destiny |
22/1(-83%) | (1) Designer Destiny 22/1, Fair form in bumpers and over hurdles earlier in her career but has shown little back from a long absence this season, including over fences last time. Looked promising in 2019 but lightly raced and disappointing since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LADY BERLAIS was well held when last seen in March at Bangor but she was dropped 2lb in the ratings for that effort. The five-year-old has since switched yards to the in-form Dan Skelton stable and that could bring out the improvement needed to take this. Ryder's Rock wasn't entirely disgraced when seventh on her handicap bow over 2m1f here and she goes in a first-time tongue tie, which could eke out more. Baby Sham is capable at this level and is another to consider.
BABY SHAM had excuses on both outings since scoring at Fontwell in June and, after a short break, she's worth a chance to bounce back and land a weak contest. Lady Berlais is an obvious threat on debut for Dan Skelton and the market should be informative with regard to her chance.
Now 3lb lower than when placed in a big field on her handicap debut, LADY BERLAIS could be hard to beat on her debut for Dan Skelton.
Ths is the racecard key.
