(5) Mr Escobar 10/11, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 1¾m) and he wasn't disgraced without looking straightforward when tenth in Cesarewitch at Newmarket (18f) back in October. However, he has to merit serious consideration now his attentions switch to hurdles for his leading Irish stable.

14:30 Newton Abbot Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Having placed in third on his hurdles bow at Ffos Las in May, BOYLES HILL should put that experience to good use. The son of Watar has also proven himself in soft underfoot conditions in the past, and he rates the one to beat. Market support for fellow point-to-point winner Manowest would be interesting on his Rules debut and the six-year-old warrants respect, but the Willie Mullins-trained Mr Escobar may give the selection most to think about on his first outing in this sphere.

MR ESCOBAR didn't always look straightforward when campaigned on the Flat but his leading Irish stable looks to have found a very good starting point now his attentions switch to timber and he gets the nod to come out on top. Boyles Hill, following his encouraging Ffos Las third, and point-scorer Manowest can provide chief resistance.

Hurdling debutant MR ESCOBAR, who was fairly useful on the Flat and is a rare runner here for champion trainer Willie Mullins.

15:05 Newton Abbot Handicap Chase (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

IN THIS WORLD built on a trio of runner-up efforts when opening his account over fences at Worcester. The Dan Skelton-trained gelding was value for further that day and a 6lb higher mark might not be enough to prevent him from completing the double. Fellow last-time-out winner Feel The Pinch scored on the hurdle track at this venue and the switch to chasing shouldn't prevent another bold bid. He is feared most, ahead of Opening Bid.

IN THIS WORLD has taken well to this discipline and produced a professional display when opening his account in good style at Worcester 19 days ago, leading run-in and well on top finish. He can defy the handicapper and follow up. Opening Bid and Feel The Pinch, who has built up an impressive strike rate for his present yard, rate next best.

A commendable fourth off this mark in a competitive race at Uttoxeter a fortnight ago, OPENING BID might dominate from the front here.

15:40 Newton Abbot Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The hat-trick seeking Clearance warrants respect in his current heart and the son of Authorized is likely to give another good account of himself. However, he hasn't always performed to his best on a slower surface, and this could prove a suitable opportunity for WINTERWATCH to regain the winning thread. Harry Fry's charge performed creditably behind a subsequent winner in a novice hurdle at Stratford last month and this return to handicap company will suit. Melton Mossy also enters calculations dropping in class.

You can set your watch by CLEARANCE over this C&D, and back from a short break up 3 lb, the hat-trick looks on the cards. Winterwatch should be a factor returned to handicap company, while better is expected of Melton Mossy back on his correct mark.

There is more to come from MELTON MOSSY (nap), who won his first two handicaps comfortably and was not discredited here last week.

16:15 Newton Abbot Handicap Chase (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BEGIN THE LUCK found only an unexposed chaser too strong over C&D last month and this looks a good opportunity to go one better. That said, previous C&D winner Fat Sam continues to edge down the weights and there was encouragement to be drawn from his recent Stratford fourth. Limerick Leader showed up well for a long way at Perth in May and recent wind surgery could spark some improvement.

LIMERICK LEADER is potentially on a nice mark starting out for an in-form yard so could be the answer. Begin The Luck was an excellent second over C&D 3 weeks ago and is a solid alternative.

Olly Murphy's new recruit LIMERICK LEADER has been given a wind op and might capitalise upon a career-low mark here.

16:50 Newton Abbot Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SEREN Y TEIGR kept on well to finish second over 2m at Ffos Las recently. Evan Williams' five-year-old looks ready for a step back up in trip on that evidence and he is taken to record a breakthrough success. Stratford winner Getmetothemoon hit the frame over 2m1f here latest. That is a solid piece of form given the winner has been on a roll recently and she merits the utmost respect from an unchanged mark. Culligran is also noted.

EURKASH has been the subject of a very interesting trainer change and is worth chancing under Harry Cobden, with confidence increased should the betting vibes be strong. Getmetothemoon has made a solid start to the season and is second choice ahead of John O'Shea's Culligran.

Getmetothemoon is respected but EURKASH makes his stable debut from a tempting mark and might be worth chancing.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A step up in distance appeared to unlock some improvement in KONIGIN ISABELLA when opening her account over C&D last month. A 4lb higher rating looks more than workable for the Anthony Honeyball-trained mare and she's taken to follow up. Stable debutant Bushmill Boy looks just the type that will benefit from a change of scenery and an improved bid is forecast, while Invictus De Brion is entitled to build on last month's reappearance fourth at Worcester.

There were positives to glean from GET THE VALUE's efforts in a Stratford maiden and a novice event here in May, and he is of interest now switched to handicap company off a feasible opening mark. With recent winning form at a premium in this contest, Konigin Isabella, who got off the mark over C&D last time, has to be feared, while Bushmill Boy, Invictus de Brion and Testflight are all strong each-way contenders.

Preference is for INVICTUS DE BRION, who returned from a long layoff with a pleasing fourth at Worcester last month.

17:55 Newton Abbot NH Flat Race (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

There was plenty of encouragement to be gleaned from BACK IN THE BAY's fourth-placed Rules bow at Worcester at the start of July. An extra furlong is sure to suit the daughter of Doyen and she ticks the most boxes. Fellow point-to-point runner-up Pure Seduction may serve the most resistance to the selection on her debut in this sphere, ahead of the Tom Lacey-trained newcomer Eskimo Sam.

PURE SEDUCTION has shown ability in points and her stable has a good record in this sphere, so she's marginally preferred to Back In The Bay, who made a positive start under Rules at Worcester last time. Eskimo Sam is also considered.

Irish point runner-up BACK IN THE BAY made a pretty good start to her rules career at Worcester last month and gets the nod.
