1st (7) (2.75/1 -46%) Sylvies Dance |
2.75/1(-46%) | (7) Sylvies Dance 2.75/1, Won twice in points early in her career and runner-up in that sphere last month. Not seen under Rules since finishing second in a Chepstow maiden for Paul Nicholls in March 2021. Close second in a point last month after more than two years off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (0.36/1 +46%) Basford |
0.36/1(+46%) | (1) Basford 0.36/1, Bumper winner who was runner-up 5 times over hurdles before landing the odds over C&D last week. Didn't look totally straightforward in the process but he's expected to outclass these again. C&D winner last week; ought to make a bold bid under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (18/1 +10%) Kylenoe Dancer |
18/1(+10%) | (6) Kylenoe Dancer 18/1, Has looked very limited but seemed to up her game when third of 8 to Basford here a week ago. Needs to back that up. Best effort when beaten 14l behind Basford here last week. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (16/1 -100%) Afta Party |
16/1(-100%) | (2) Afta Party 16/1, Fairly useful Flat winner for Alice Haynes. Not at that level over hurdles so far, falling on third start and always behind back from a short break at Warwick a fortnight ago. Usual hood back on upped in trip. Tailed off two weeks ago but can be seriously considered on earlier efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (100/1 -25%) Nuova Vita |
100/1(-25%) | (5) Nuova Vita 100/1, Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler E Street Boy and bumper winner Sweetlittlemystery. Dual winning pointer but made an unpromising start to his career under Rules when last of 5 at Worcester (23f) 12 days ago. Dual point winner; tailed off on recent hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (100/1 -25%) Farnon |
100/1(-25%) | (4) Farnon 100/1, Arctic Cosmos gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to smart hurdler (stayed 23f) Shinrock Paddy. Minor promise in a Newcastle bumper in January and goes up in trip now hurdling for new yard. Well beaten in a bumper in January; hurdle/stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An impressive winner over C&D last week, BASFORD looks to have a gilt-edged opportunity to follow up in this small field. The form of the Jennie Candlish stable is another plus and he should have too much for Sylvies Dance, who returns from long absence under Rules for a new yard and may well improve on whatever she shows. Afta Party can pick up the pieces if either of the aforementioned pair falter.
Another good opportunity for BASFORD, who can follow-up last week's C&D win under a penalty. Sylvies Dance has presumably had her share of issues but a recent second between the flags will hopefully put her spot on this, and she looks the main threat.
Although not impressive in last week's win, BASFORD can follow up.

1st (3) (1.75/1 +7%) Dancila |
1.75/1(+7%) | (3) Dancila 1.75/1, Useful Flat winner in Ireland for Jim Bolger and excellent start over hurdles when seeing off 3 winners at Musselburgh in February. Hasn't advanced his form in defeat twice since, but it's still early days and can resume winning ways now switching to handicap company. Won on hurdle/stable debut but hasn't built on that; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (2.75/1 +21%) Coolnaugh Haze |
2.75/1(+21%) | (4) Coolnaugh Haze 2.75/1, Fair handicap hurdler who returned to form when fourth at Ludlow in May and backed up that effort when runner-up at Warwick 10 days later, only beaten by a head. Can give his running again. Only just beaten at Warwick two weeks ago; consistent and deserves another win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (16/1 +0%) Aliomaana |
16/1(+0%) | (6) Aliomaana 16/1, Got back on track in a refitted hood after 4 months off when landing handicap hurdle at Stratford in October. However, not in the same form when fourth of 6 at Hereford later the same month. Others make more appeal on her return from 7-month absence. Absent since October but has won after a break; can make the running. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (3.33/1 +39%) Throne Hall |
3.33/1(+39%) | (2) Throne Hall 3.33/1, Useful on the Flat and winner of first 2 starts over hurdles. However, soft ground appeared to be against him when well held at Kempton on Boxing Day and ran no sort of race when pulled up at Taunton next time. Could get back on track returned to a sounder surface. Absent since pulled up on handicap debut five months ago; possibilities if all's well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (6.5/1 -44%) Just The Man |
6.5/1(-44%) | (5) Just The Man 6.5/1, Had been given a chance by the handicapper and left his reappearance effort behind when runner-up at Ffos Las 11 days ago, headed on the line. Can give another good account with cheekpieces now back on. Back to form when narrowly beaten at Ffos Las but this will probably demand more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (12/1 -60%) Valentino Dancer |
12/1(-60%) | (1) Valentino Dancer 12/1, Made solid start for this yard in 2021/22, winning twice over hurdles (at around 2m) either side of success on Flat. Possibly needed the run when well held at Chepstow when last seen in April last year, but he's been off a further 13 months since. Absent for 14 months but his form from 2021 makes him of interest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Denied by the narrowest of margins at Ffos Las last time out, JUST THE MAN can gain compensation here. The son of Rajsaman is narrowly preferred to the recent Warwick runner-up Coolnaugh Haze and Dancila, who could be well treated off a mark of 120 on his handicap debut. Stablemate Valentino Dancer is a player based on the pick of his form as well.
A useful winner on the Flat, DANCILA made an impressive start over hurdles when successful at Musselburgh in February and was left with too much to do when third at Huntingdon on his latest outing. He can resume winning ways on his handicap debut, with Just The Man feared most after he was only narrowly denied last time. Coolnaugh Haze also merits consideration.
It may pay to trust that VALENTINO DANCER can return from an absence with a win.

1st (5) (3.5/1 +36%) Cresswell Queen |
3.5/1(+36%) | (5) Cresswell Queen 3.5/1, Made a winning chasing debut at Ffos Las last summer and ran at least as well in defeat when second in 4-runner event at Newton Abbot next time. Shaped as if needing run back over hurdles 11 days ago and better expected now. Well held over hurdles on return from a break; needs to find her best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/1 -50%) Investment Manager |
6/1(-50%) | (2) Investment Manager 6/1, Fair winner over hurdles who gained his breakthrough success at Exeter (19.2f, heavy). However, added to an increasingly patchy record when well held here 3 weeks ago. Sterner headgear on. Easy Exeter winner in April but tailed off here since; blinkers on and back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (14/1 -27%) Lord Bryan |
14/1(-27%) | (1) Lord Bryan 14/1, In top form when completing a hat-trick around 3m between April and June in 2022. Pulled up 4 of 5 starts since, however, including on return 3 weeks ago (bled). Hat-trick last year but pulled up in four of five outings since; deal to prove for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (1.62/1 +28%) Shortcross Storm |
1.62/1(+28%) | (4) Shortcross Storm 1.62/1, Finally took advantage of a much-reduced mark over C&D 3 weeks ago, very much having the run of things. Similar scenario could happen again here so big shout. Made all and held on well when tried over C&D three weeks ago; 3lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (2.25/1 -13%) Hurricane Vichi |
2.25/1(-13%) | (3) Hurricane Vichi 2.25/1, Ffos Las bumper winner who went close off this mark in a 23f Lingfield handicap hurdle in January. Not disgraced both starts since and should make a chaser (runner-up sole start in Irish points). Of interest in first-time headgear. Unable to win over hurdles but ran well enough; considered on chasing debut with visor on. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A winner at a big price over C&D last time out, SHORTCROSS STORM can prove that was no fluke by going in again off a 3lb higher mark. The eight-year-old is still well below a career-high mark of 106 over fences and he could have too much for Hurricane Vichi, who is interesting on his chase debut. A winner at Exeter on his penultimate start, Investment Manager is entitled to be thereabouts as well.
HURRICANE VICHI went very close off this mark over hurdles earlier in the year and should make a chaser (runner-up sole start in Irish points), so could be the answer with Harry Cobden taking over. Recent C&D winner Shortcross Storm is the obvious threat, especially if allowed the run of things again.
Shortcross Storm could prove hard to catch again but preference is for chasing debutant HURRICANE VICHI.

1st (6) (4/1 +47%) Good Impression |
4/1(+47%) | (6) Good Impression 4/1, Successful twice during the autumn, latterly at Ffos Las in October. Hasn't scaled same heights upon returning to action this spring. Won off higher mark last October but hasn't been at his best in recent starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (50/1 -25%) Tally's Son |
50/1(-25%) | (11) Tally's Son 50/1, Poor strike rate on the Flat (1-42) and hasn't shown much over hurdles. Slightly better latest but 1-50 in career and 6lb out of the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (16/1 +36%) Professor Calculus |
16/1(+36%) | (5) Professor Calculus 16/1, Taunton winner in February but jumping often lacks fluency and that has held him back since. Shock winner in February but no sign of a repeat; visor is taken off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (12/1 -33%) Turpin Gold |
12/1(-33%) | (2) Turpin Gold 12/1, Fair in bumpers and opened hurdling account in 2m Stratford novice in September. Lame at Huntingdon a month later and pulled too hard back from a break at Ffos Las recently. Others make more appeal. Too free on handicap debut and finished last; hood now fitted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (6.5/1 -86%) Buxted Too |
6.5/1(-86%) | (4) Buxted Too 6.5/1, Borderline useful Flat winner. Below that level so far over hurdles but more encouragement in a novice at Huntingdon last time and he's potentially thrown in trying handicaps. Handicap hurdle debut may see him in a much better light given his Flat ability. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (9/1 +59%) Fight For It |
9/1(+59%) | (3) Fight For It 9/1, Opened his account in Ludlow novice hurdle over a year ago but below form since, including on the Flat. Others appeal more. Too free and yet to be placed in handicaps; hood on for first time over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (16/1 -191%) Energy Two |
16/1(-191%) | (7) Energy Two 16/1, Shaped as if amiss when pulled up in bumper at Warwick but much more encouragement so far over hurdles. Handicapper has taken no chances with opening mark but there could be more to come. Third in both hurdle starts; handicap debut with a hood on; unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (16/1 +43%) Emberscombe |
16/1(+43%) | (10) Emberscombe 16/1, Down the field in a bumper/over hurdles. Makes no appeal. Hasn't shown much yet; well beaten on handicap debut last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (7/1 +7%) Marley Head |
7/1(+7%) | (9) Marley Head 7/1, Fair maiden on the Flat. Hasn't shown a great deal in this sphere but now tongue tied for handicap debut, so might well make more of an impact. Yet to achieve much over hurdles; tongue-strap on for handicap debut; market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (2.75/1 +17%) Hunting Percival |
2.75/1(+17%) | (1) Hunting Percival 2.75/1, Not long with this yard and proved he retains ability when second at this course a week ago. Should be on the premises again if the race doesn't come too soon. Back to form when second here last week and now 7lb lower. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (14/1 -115%) Free Chakarte |
14/1(-115%) | (8) Free Chakarte 14/1, Fair on the Flat in France and scored on hurdles debut at Hexham a year ago. Form dipped after but there was a bit more encouragement in first-time blinkers when fifth at Worcester recently. Not completely dismissed. Clear leader in blinkers at Worcester but faded; others are more likely. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HUNTING PERCIVAL belied odds of 80-1 to finish second here a week week ago and the son of Sir Percy can go one better as he remains well treated judged on past exploits. Energy Two showed plenty across her qualifying runs and must be of interest, hooded for the first time ahead of her handicap bow, while Buxted Too is another to consider.
BUXTED TOO took a step in the right direction last time and he's potentially thrown in based on Flat form, so he gets the nod over fellow handicap debutant Marley Head. Hunting Percival arrives on the back of a good second at this course, so he also merits consideration.
Handicap hurdle newcomer BUXTED TOO has a tempting mark, given his Flat ability.

Gio's Girl |
(2) (7/1 +56%)7/1(+56%) | (2) Gio's Girl 7/1, Winning pointer who hasn't stood much racing under Rules and has struggled since returning from a 2-year absence earlier this year. Opposable back in a handicap. Little in four starts this year after a very long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (5) (1.5/1 +57%) Saxon Queen |
1.5/1(+57%) | (5) Saxon Queen 1.5/1, Clearly not straightforward but showed her first form after a 20-month break when second of 7 in handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (23.9f, good) 11 days ago. Player if able to back that up. Narrow defeat at Ffos Las on her first start since October 2021. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (2.12/1 +61%) Rubys Reward |
2.12/1(+61%) | (6) Rubys Reward 2.12/1, Landed a gamble for Anthony Honeyball at Fontwell last spring and ran her best race for this yard when fourth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Taunton (23.9f, soft, 11/1) 41 days ago. Clearly stays well and isn't ruled out. Beaten less than 2l at Taunton in April latest but this may demand more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (3/1 +75%) Danzini |
3/1(+75%) | (3) Danzini 3/1, Won at Southwell last summer but arrives after a brace of poor efforts, going in snatches when down the field at Stratford (26.4f, good, 12/1) 17 days ago. Tongue strap and cheekpieces now applied. Southwell winner last July but yet to recover her form; both aids on for the first time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A few with chances, so only a tentative vote can go to DANCINGONTHEEDGE. Paul Nicholls' charge was beaten a neck at Uttoxeter on her latest outing, but first-time cheekpieces could elicit the improvement required to come home in front. Saxon Queen defied a lengthy absence to fill the runner-up spot at Ffos Las on her return and she is the main danger off a 4lb raised mark. Keep an eye on Rubys Reward too.
This looks a gilt-edged opportunity for DANCINGONTHEEDGE to get off the mark over hurdles, beaten only by narrow margins on 2 of her last 3 starts and clearly still on a workable handicap mark. The danger could be Rubys Reward, who will be suited by this stamina test and can take another step back in the right direction.
This may well be the chance for DANCINGONTHEEDGE to gain a first hurdle success.

1st (4) (0.29/1 +49%) Chief Black Robe |
0.29/1(+49%) | (4) Chief Black Robe 0.29/1, Much improved when opening his account over fences for new yard at Market Rasen (23.8f) last month and made very light work of following up under a penalty at this C&D (good) 7 days ago. Outstanding claims of a quickfire hat-trick. Two easy wins since joining this yard; hat-trick is on the cards despite 12lb higher mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (7/1 -110%) Balko Saint |
7/1(-110%) | (2) Balko Saint 7/1, Dual winner over hurdles and unlucky to bump into a handicap blot when claiming a third successive runner-up finish over fences at Worcester (20f, good) 12 days ago, off the bridle some way out. Looks the most obvious threat to Chief Black Robe. Second in three of last four chasing starts and every reason to expect another good effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (14/1 -40%) Umndeni |
14/1(-40%) | (3) Umndeni 14/1, Won over hurdles at this venue in August 2021 but yet to match that form in this sphere, finishing a well-beaten third at Worcester (20f, good) 12 days ago. Mark drops a further 5 lb and blinkers replace the usual cheekpieces worn. Yet to make his mark over fences but better than it looks at Worcester latest; blinkers on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (9/1 -29%) Bagheera Ginge |
9/1(-29%) | (1) Bagheera Ginge 9/1, 5-y-o who proved steadily progressive over hurdles last term, scoring at Stratford (18.6f) in August prior to readily defying a penalty at this course (21.5f) a month later. Shaped as if amiss sent chasing at Kempton just over 5 weeks ago so a big leap of faith is required. Two hurdle wins; pulled up on chasing debut last month and plenty to prove now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CHIEF BLACK ROBE has been a facile winner on both occasions since switching to the Fergal O'Brien stable and a hat-trick could be on the cards, despite racing off a 12lb higher mark than his C&D triumph seven days ago. Balko Saint arrives in fair form having finished runner-up on his last two appearances and is the chief threat, while connections of Umndeni reach for first-time blinkers and he's dangerous to dismiss off a tumbling mark.
CHIEF BLACK ROBE is clearly a different proposition for current connections, so Fergal O'Brien's 7-y-o is strongly fancied to bring up a quickfire hat-trick under a penalty and remain unbeaten over the larger obstacles. Balko Saint rates the obvious danger and he could be set for a fourth successive runner-up finish over fences.
It's hard to look beyond CHIEF BLACK ROBE after his two easy wins.

1st (2) (2/1 +20%) Corporal Jackjones |
2/1(+20%) | (2) Corporal Jackjones 2/1, Milan gelding who dropped away gradually when ninth in 10-runner Huntingdon bumper (15.8f) on debut in January. Possibly unsuited by racing along inside then and he may well step up here. Didn't live up to expectations when ninth on debut in January. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (0.62/1 +0%) Gregorian Diamond |
0.62/1(+0%) | (1) Gregorian Diamond 0.62/1, Failed to complete both starts in points but showed some ability when third in a Stratford bumper 17 days ago. Entitled to build on that for in-form yard and bold showing anticipated. Third in a decent Stratford contest last month; obvious claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (7.5/1 -36%) Palawan Du Mazet |
7.5/1(-36%) | (3) Palawan Du Mazet 7.5/1, Papal Bull gelding. Dam, lightly raced over hurdles in France, sister to useful hurdler/smart chaser in France (17f-2¾m winner) Princesse Kap. Wears blinkers for debut and betting should guide. Some appeal on pedigree and trainer does well in bumpers at this course. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GREGORIAN DIAMOND posted a fair third on his bumper debut at Stratford last month and a similar level of performance may suffice in this weak affair. Palawan Du Mazet is the potential fly in the ointment on his racecourse bow and Alan Jones' gelding is worth noting in the market. Better was expected of Corporal Jackjones when ninth at Huntingdon in January and it's too soon to be writing off the four-year-old.
GREGORIAN DIAMOND represents a yard firmly amongst the winners and showed ability when third on debut in a Stratford bumper 17 days ago. Entitled to build on that, he gets the nod to come out on top, possibly at the chief expense of Corporal Jackjones. The betting should guide with debutant Palawan du Mazet.
Third in a good race at Stratford, GREGORIAN DIAMOND earns the vote.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
