14:10 Newton Abbot Handicap Chase (Class 4) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Behind The Curtain is likely to be well found in the market after a game victory over hurdles last month. That said, he hasn't looked a natural chaser in the past and David Pipe's ten-year-old may prove vulnerable to younger legs, namely chasing debutant PENTIRE HEAD. Paul Nicholls' charge was last seen staying on into third over 2m4f at Ffos Las and connections will be disappointed if a race of this nature wasn't within reach for the son of Presenting. Recent C&D winner Lightonthewing also warrants respect, notwithstanding a 5lb rise for that performance.

FAVORI DE SIVOLA is potentially well handicapped back with a yard he had success with so could be worth chancing after 7 months off. Lightonthewing and Puddlesinthepark both arrive in top form having finished 1-2 over C&D last month and are others to consider.

Plenty with chances. As with so many Paul Nicholls horses, PENTIRE HEAD is fully entitled to be a better chaser than hurdler.

14:40 Newton Abbot Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

It is hard to look past HUELGOAT, who pulled clear with the eventual winner when finishing runner-up over 2m6f at Stratford last month and he should be hard to stop with a reproduction of that effort. Eileen's Milan ran too green for his own good when finishing down the field in a Plumpton bumper on his debut last month, but he is surely capable of better and can emerge as the main danger to his stablemate. It will be interesting to see how Victoria Line fares on his first start in this sphere, but has a bit to find judging by his exertions on the Flat.

HUELGOAT isn't as good over hurdles as he is fences but even so, he's expected to outclass these. Stablemate Eileen's Milan goes up in trip now tackling obstacles and could be the chief threat in a thin race.

Go Johnny Go brings some potential to the table but this should be easy pickings for HUELGOAT.

15:10 Newton Abbot Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

SAINT BIBIANA impressed with the manner of her victory over 3m2f at Stratford last month, coming clear in the closing stages to win going away, and, on that evidence, a 6lb rise may not be enough to anchor her. Mollie Brown shaped like the application of blinkers would suit when finishing third in a similar contest at Hereford a few weeks ago, while the class-dropping Shirocco's Dream completes the shortlist.

SAINT BIBIANA took her form up a notch when going in at Stratford and a 6 lb rise doesn't look sufficient to prevent her from following up given she's still unexposed over staying trips. The reliable Kentford Mallard appeals as the one to chase home Georgina Nicholls' mare, with Maroochi, Jaunty Belle and Mollie Brown all worthy of respect too.

The move up from about 2m4f worked a treat when SAINT BIBIANA (nap) scored over the extended 3m2f at Stratford last time.

15:40 Newton Abbot Handicap Chase (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Not beaten far over C&D last time out, AMERICAN GERRY must hold every chance off a 3lb higher mark with conditions in his favour once again. Hughie Morrison's charge may not be the most consistent, but he should have enough to see off Him Malaya, who makes his debut over fences after some promising efforts of late over timber. Midnight Centurion didn't shape badly on his return from a 413-day break at Ludlow in January and he is entitled to improve from that outing.

AMERICAN GERRY quickly dispelled a lesser effort when second behind an aggressively ridden rival over C&D 16 days ago, noted closing all the way to the line and, again partnered by Freddie Gingell, he looks to hold sound claims again. Him Malaya goes chasing following a good solid third over hurdles at Ludlow (form working out well) and he's of interest. Up For Appeal is another to keep an eye on.

American Gerry is the solid option but he might prove vulnerable to chase debutant HIM MALAYA if he stays this longer trip.

16:10 Newton Abbot Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

An easy winner at Hereford last time out, SWIFT HAWK should have plenty more improvement forthcoming off a 5lb higher mark and he can notch up a third win in five starts. Clearance arrives with similar claims after a taking win here over further on his latest outing, while Uggy Uggy Uggy is another to consider after scoring over 2m5f at Warwick.

SWIFT HAWK is going the right way for this stable and had loads in hand at Hereford last time, so he boasts leading claims with further progress on the cards. Fellow last-time-out winners Clearance and Uggy Uggy Uggy are formidable opponents.

Uggy Uggy Uggy and Clearance command respect but the selection is SWIFT HAWK who doesn't look harshly treated off a 5lb rise.

16:40 Newton Abbot Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Colonel Lesley wasn't beaten far into third in this grade at Hereford last month and has to be respected off only 2lb higher. However, the eight-year-old could come out second best to KING'S CASTLE, who scored in pleasing fashion in a class 4 event at Warwick last month and the handicapper may have let him off the hook with only a 3lb rise for that triumph. Jeremy Scott's seven-year-old looks well placed to record a double, while Gorcombe Moonshine can fight it out for the minor money.

KING'S CASTLE got the better of an even less-exposed rival when opening his hurdles account at Warwick last month and, with more still to offer in this sphere, he can make it back-to-back wins. Good Impression landed this race last year and is respected back here, while Colonel Lesley could also be thereabouts.

Jeremy Scott-trained KING'S CASTLE looks good value for his 3lb rise but it will not be easy in conceding weight to Colonel Lesley.

17:15 Newton Abbot Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

CITY ROLLER was denied by just under two lengths into second over an extended 2m2f at Stratford on his latest outing and he is only 2lb higher for that effort. The son of Scorpion lurks on an appealing mark and he can record his first career victory. Clinton Lane was dropped 2lb for finishing fifth in this grade at Fontwell last month and he should get closer, while Thurley goes in a first-time hood, which could eke out more.

Hard to be bullish about many here, so it may be worth chancing WESTERN SOLDIER, who wasn't seen to best effect under restraint at Hereford last time and looks on workable mark based on his Flat form. City Roller remains winless but arrives after a sound runner-up effort and also makes appeal, whilst handicap newcomer Ocean Ridge could do better in this sphere.

A chance is taken on GREATNESS AWAITS, who has hinted at winning potential over hurdles and this year's Flat exploits bode quite well.
