1st (5) (1/4 +38%) Ambiente Amigo |
1/4(+38%) | (5) Ambiente Amigo 1/4, Useful performer on Flat over middle distances, probably failed to get home upped in trip last time. In very good hands and this looks a gilt-edged opportunity if taking adequately to hurdling with a hood back on. Won twice, also made the frame three times in Listed company on the Flat; hurdles debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (16/1 -129%) Fine Point |
16/1(-129%) | (1) Fine Point 16/1, Fair maiden at up to 10.5f on the Flat in Ireland for Jim Bolger. Joined a stable which has tasted plenty of juvenile hurdle success over the years and he's entitled to step up on opening effort in this sphere. Raced freely on hurdle debut at Sedgefield and needs to learn to settle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/1 +38%) Roi De Baviere |
5/1(+38%) | (3) Roi De Baviere 5/1, Fair maiden on Flat in France (stays 1½m), placed 3 times but well held latest outing. Left Fabrice Vermeulen €6,000 in July and now goes hurdling for respected stable. 11-race maiden on Flat when trained in France but placed twice on heavy; hurdles debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (20/1 -67%) Trafalgar Square |
20/1(-67%) | (4) Trafalgar Square 20/1, Fair maiden at up to 1½m on the Flat and showed an aptitude for hurdling when second of 12 in juvenile at Market Rasen in June. Pretty disappointing in both codes since, however. Second on hurdling debut at Market Rasen in June but well beaten in two starts since.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (40/1 -100%) Mix De Gris |
40/1(-100%) | (2) Mix De Gris 40/1, Half-brother to useful hurdler Makitorix (2m winner, by Makfi) and fair French hurdler Hextravertix (19f winner, by Manduro). Modest form on Flat, tailed off on handicap debut last time. Hurdles debut. Didn't show much on the Flat and has something to prove now hurdling. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Fine Point is entitled to build on his opening bid in this sphere when fourth at Sedgefield at the beginning of the month, but it is hard to look past the smart Flat performer AMBIENTE AMIGO. James Owen's filly has posted several creditable efforts in defeat on the level in recent months and she should take all the beating if transferring that ability to hurdles. Roi De Baviere is also worth a second look tackling timber for the first time.
AMBIENTE AMIGO is a different class to these based on her Flat form and getting weight all round, an adequate round of jumping will surely suffice now hurdling. Fine Point could be the one for the forecast.
This looks to be an ideal opportunity for AMBIENTE AMIGO to make a winning hurdling debut at the chief expense of Roi De Baviere.

1st (3) (2/7 +57%) Skyjack Hijack |
2/7(+57%) | (3) Skyjack Hijack 2/7, Arrives very much on the up and he impressively completed a hat-trick in 7-runner handicap hurdle at Aintree (24.7f, good to soft) 4 days ago. Escapes a penalty for that and he's the one to beat. Unpenalised for his latest win, suggesting it will be very tough to deny him a four-timer.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (7/1 +13%) Jeteye |
7/1(+13%) | (6) Jeteye 7/1, Got off the mark at Hexham in June and posted a good fourth of 12 in handicap hurdle there (23.3f, good) 27 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. 2m7f winner; back in better form at Hexham latest; drops 1lb; each-way player.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (12/1 -71%) Mrs Tabitha |
12/1(-71%) | (7) Mrs Tabitha 12/1, Unreliable sort but was running well off the back of a wind op when ran out 2 out in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (19.6f, good) 23 days ago. Cheekpieces go on now up in trip. Ran out latest and cheekpieces are now added to a tongue-tie as she steps up in trip.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (22/1 -83%) Herewegohoney |
22/1(-83%) | (1) Herewegohoney 22/1, Dual hurdles winner but very lightly raced of late and fell 5 out (still in touch) in 2m4f Bangor handicap chase last month. More needed back in this sphere. Thorough stayer who has been below par since a wide-margin chase win in July.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|S| (2) (18/1 -100%) Velasco |
18/1(-100%) | (2) Velasco 18/1, Thrived towards the end of last season, winning three times, and shaped as if needing the run after 6 months off when fourth of 8 in 23f Hexham handicap 19 days ago. Can take a step forward. Should be better for reappearance but still needs to improve on his hurdles form to win.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (4) (28/1 -75%) Steps Match |
28/1(-75%) | (4) Steps Match 28/1, Resumed winning ways over hurdles at Perth in September but pulled up in handicap chase at Sedgefield (26.3f, good to soft) 11 days ago. Not ruled out though back in this sphere. 10lb higher than latest Perth win and likely to be playing for a place back over hurdles.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (150/1 -127%) Del La Mar Rocket |
150/1(-127%) | (5) Del La Mar Rocket 150/1, Landed a Ffos Las maiden hurdle in February 2022 but largely held back by his jumping over hurdles and fences for Ben Pauling since. First outing for new yard after 9 months off with lots to prove. Bumper and 2m6f hurdle winner; changed hands for £2,000; best watched for new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Having destroyed his rivals in a conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle at Aintree on Sunday, SKYJACK HIJACK is sure to prove a warm order off an unchanged mark. That was the third consecutive victory for the six-year-old and a four-timer looks likely if coping with a quick turnaround. Velasco was progressive over hurdles last season and he should strip fitter for his fourth-placed reappearance at Hexham earlier this month. Susan Corbett's gelding could serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of Mrs Tabitha.
SKYJACK HIJACK is impossible to oppose given he can race off the same mark as when a facile scorer at Aintree only four days ago. Jeteye appeals as the one to chase home Jennie Candlish's improver ahead of Steps Match.
Barring disasters, this looks a very good opportunity for the progressive SKYJACK HIJACK to add another win to his CV.

1st (8) (1/1 +33%) Sayva |
1/1(+33%) | (8) Sayva 1/1, Proved a different proposition to debut when winning 11-runner bumper at Bangor (16.7f, good) back in June. Encouraging start to hurdling when third at Sedgefield 22 days ago and can improve enough to open his account. Bumper winner; fair 3rd on hurdles debut earlier this month; should improve; every chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (16/1 +0%) Devon Skies |
16/1(+0%) | (9) Devon Skies 16/1, Well held in 2 bumpers in the spring and showed something to work on when fourth in a novice at Sedgefield 11 days ago. Could be more to come and she's not ruled out. Modest form in two bumpers; fair fourth at 150-1 on hurdles debut and improvement likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (8/1 +43%) Athair Mor |
8/1(+43%) | (1) Athair Mor 8/1, Brother to useful 11f-1¾m winner Glen Savage. Dam, ran twice on Flat, half-sister to fairly useful but temperamental hurdler/useful chase winner (stayed 2½m) Percussionist. Decent-enough page and warrants a market check on hurdling debut. £3,000 4yo; brother to useful Glen Savage; has had two wind ops; best watched on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (7/4 -7%) Iorangi De L'isle |
7/4(-7%) | (3) Iorangi De L'isle 7/4, Won completed start in Irish points. Shaped with promise in a Catterick bumper and best effort to date when third in a novice at Kelso on recent return. Solid claims if he's in the same form. Irish point winner; has finished third in a bumper and two novice hurdles; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (14/1 -75%) Leader Wing |
14/1(-75%) | (6) Leader Wing 14/1, Left debut form behind as he got off the mark in 10-runner bumper at Sedgefield in May. First run since leaving Tom Weston when a low-key sixth at Sedgefield 22 days ago. Needs to step up on that. Bought for £9,000 after bumper win in May; well beaten on hurdles debut but should improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (16/1 -14%) Burglar's Dream |
16/1(-14%) | (5) Burglar's Dream 16/1, Fair maiden on the Flat, below form last two starts. Up against it switched to hurdling. 0-15 on the Flat but placed four times (best at 1m2f); quite interesting on jumps debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (125/1 -279%) Moonfleet Moment |
125/1(-279%) | (7) Moonfleet Moment 125/1, Lightly raced and quite limited on the Flat, so not an obvious sort switched to hurdling. Ex-Harry Eustace; lightly raced maiden on the Flat and plenty to prove on jumps debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (200/1 -100%) Knight Of Magic |
200/1(-100%) | (4) Knight Of Magic 200/1, Poor maiden on the Flat who is yet to show anything in a bumper/novice hurdle. Modest on the Flat and pulled up on hurdles debut (150-1); others stronger. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
IORANGI DE L'ISLE offered much more encouragement on his reappearance when finishing third at Kelso earlier this month. This contest might not take that much winning and a similar performance from Donald McCain's charge may prove sufficient. The biggest threat may emerge from Sayva, who hit the frame on his hurdles bow at Sedgefield recently. Devon Skies is a possible danger if improving her jumping and she completes the shortlist.
Bumper winner SAYVA should have learned plenty from his hurdling debut and he's likely to improve enough to get the better of Iorangi de L'Isle, who sets the standard at this point. Devon Skies isn't without hope.
This looks a good opportunity for SAYVA to get off the mark over hurdles. Iorangi de L'Isle looks his main danger.

1st (3) (7/2 +0%) Flic Ou Voyou |
7/2(+0%) | (3) Flic Ou Voyou 7/2, Eight-time winner of various race-types for Paul Nicholls and while it was a struggle initially for this yard, he has rediscovered his shooting boots the last twice. Ultimately did too much too soon on the elongated run for home at Kelso (21.6f, good) on latest start and he's a big player. Has run well on last two starts, notably when second last time and is worth considering. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (13/8 +19%) Boomslang |
13/8(+19%) | (2) Boomslang 13/8, Maiden hurdle winner in June and delivered an extremely polished round of jumping when successful on chase debut at Downpatrick (19.4f, good to soft) earlier this month. Mark for handicap debut in this sphere demands improvement but he almost certainly has more to offer as a chaser. Three wins in 2024, the latest on chase debut at Downpatrick; should progress; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/3 +26%) Backbyjet |
10/3(+26%) | (4) Backbyjet 10/3, Recently made it 3-7 over fences at Hexham (2½m, soft) where he proved ½-length too strong for the re-opposing Coqolino (1 lb pull), again displaying a willing attitude. That fighting spirit will likely stand him in good stead once more but this demands a new personal best. Improved with cheekpieces, winning three out of last four, all over 2m4f; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (6/1 +14%) Special Dragon |
6/1(+14%) | (6) Special Dragon 6/1, Improved sent handicapping over hurdles, runner-up either side of success at Ludlow (21.2f, good) in April. Showed aptitude for this job when eighth of 13 in handicap chase at Southwell at the beginning of this month and she can be expected to leave that form well behind in time. Won mares' handicap hurdle in April; well beaten on chase debut; should do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (15/2 +38%) Hold Onto The Line |
15/2(+38%) | (5) Hold Onto The Line 15/2, Fortunate to land his fourth success (15.8f, soft) at Musselburgh in January, looking held when left in front 2 out. However, yet to win away from that course and subsequent display at Carlisle lacked spark. Cheekpieces refitted. Capable but inconsistent; last win was over 2m but stays 2m4f; could go well. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
FLIC OU VOYOU was only collared late over an extended 2m5f at Kelso last month and this in-form gelding looks primed to offer another bold bid. Coqolino is feared most after a good second over 2m4f at Hexham earlier this month and, off 1lb better terms, he can reverse form with the reopposing winner Backbyjet. Boomslang is another to consider.
The vote in this trappy-looking contest goes to FLIC OU VOYOU, who proved that his Uttoxeter effort in July (dead-heated at odds of 66/1 but subsequently demoted to second) was no flash in the pan when going close at Kelso last time. He remains well-handicapped based on his exploits when in the care of Paul Nicholls and has conditions in his favour. There was much to like about the chase debut success of Boomslang and he is feared most ahead of Coqolino.
Preference is for BOOMSLANG who won in good style on his chase debut and should make further progress. Backbyjet is next best.

1st (13) (9/1 -13%) Balranald |
9/1(-13%) | (13) Balranald 9/1, Ran out a fortunate winner of 6-runner handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (16.8f, soft) 22 days ago, left with every chance after clear leader Cawthorne Cracker fell last. Has the same mark to work with here but has never been the most consistent. Lucky winner after Cawthorne Cracker fell when clear last time; on same mark; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (15) (40/1 -21%) National Question |
40/1(-21%) | (15) National Question 40/1, Modest winner on the Flat but has yet to take to hurdling, jumping none too fluently when seventh in 12-runner handicap at Perth (16.2f, soft, 20/1) 35 days ago. Easy to look elsewhere. 1m4f winner in July; modest form over hurdles and stiff task from 6lb out of the handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (5/2 -11%) Cawthorne Cracker |
5/2(-11%) | (7) Cawthorne Cracker 5/2, Landed a gamble on the back of a breathing operation at Sedgefield at the start of the month and would have followed up in straightforward fashion but for a final-flight fall there the following week. 9 lb higher now but still warrants plenty of respect. Improved since wind op, winning on first occasion and unlucky last time; the one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (8/1 +43%) Purple Gown |
8/1(+43%) | (8) Purple Gown 8/1, Isn't straightforward but she'd been successful on the Flat over the summer and shaped quite encouragingly back over hurdles when fifth at Perth in September. Not seen to best effect back on the level since. Dual Flat winner; fifth in two runs in handicaps over hurdles; each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (14/1 +22%) Getaway Jewel |
14/1(+22%) | (10) Getaway Jewel 14/1, On a losing run but he ran creditably when third of 12 on his most recent outing over hurdles at Worcester in July. Veteran; creditable third on latest run over hurdles (July) and has a chance on that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (18/1 -13%) La Quarite |
18/1(-13%) | (6) La Quarite 18/1, Easily best effort when second on handicap debut fitted with a hood at Musselburgh in February. Did too much too soon trying to dominate a stronger field back there (17.4f, heavy) next time but was below form at Sedgefield on final outing. Has left Iain Jardine. Ex-Iain Jardine; fair third in handicap in on February; modest efforts since; bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (14) (150/1 -50%) Ivynator |
150/1(-50%) | (14) Ivynator 150/1, One-time fairly useful Flat performer for Charlie Fellowes but has shown little for current yard, including over hurdles. Modest performer who is hard to fancy from 5lb out of the handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (15/2 +53%) Chillhi |
15/2(+53%) | (1) Chillhi 15/2, Fairly useful handicapper on Flat (stays 1¾m) who showed aptitude for hurdling on his debut in July. Well held completed start since but could show more now handicapping in this sphere. Formerly decent on the Flat; fair third over 2m4f on hurdles debut; chance on that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (5/1 +44%) Game Beaaa |
5/1(+44%) | (9) Game Beaaa 5/1, Has been holding form well lately and posted another solid showing when fifth of 9 at Market Rasen (18.6f, good to firm) 33 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Return to 2m a plus and should give another good account. 1-21 over hurdles; fair form since winning in August 2023 and has an each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (8/1 +20%) Chicago Gal |
8/1(+20%) | (2) Chicago Gal 8/1, Fair on the Flat and landed 10-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (16.6f, good) in May, responding well. Found good run halted at Southwell the following month but opened her account on the Flat at Beverley in July and shaped as if back in form at Pontefract on most recent outing. Won novice h'cap hurdle in June; Flat winner since; good ground suits; each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (6/1 +0%) Grifter |
6/1(+0%) | (12) Grifter 6/1, Went the wrong way on the Flat this year but placed twice back hurdling last month, finishing second of 12 at Perth (soft) latterly. Has improved over hurdles this season with two good placed runs last month; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (4) (22/1 -57%) Blueberry Wine |
22/1(-57%) | (4) Blueberry Wine 22/1, Has been most disappointing over fences this season but could go well reverting to hurdling off a reduced mark. Has won five chases; not been in best of form recently and bit to prove back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (5) (100/1 -100%) Montys Rock |
100/1(-100%) | (5) Montys Rock 100/1, Reached the frame in maiden hurdles in Ireland for Eoin Doyle but has shown nothing in a brace of handicaps this season for new yard. Ex-Irish; fair form in maiden hurdles for Eoin Doyle; not so good recently; new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (40/1 -43%) Star Contact |
40/1(-43%) | (11) Star Contact 40/1, Limited impact both starts in Ireland for S. Curling and fared no better starting out for this yard at Carlisle 2 weeks ago. Modest efforts in two maiden hurdles in Ireland and pulled up on stable debut last time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CAWTHORNE CRACKER was well in command when falling at the last over 2m1f at Sedgefield earlier this month and with a clear round of jumping, he looks primed to return to winning ways. The five-year-old will have to defy a 9lb hike but that doesn't appear likely to halt his progression. Grifter looks the biggest danger after a decent second over 2m at Perth in September, while Balranald heads the remainder.
CHICAGO GAL shaped as if back in form on her most recent Flat outing and gets the tentative vote to notch a second win over hurdles. Purple Gown isn't straightforward but potentially has a bit more to offer as a hurdler, especially when the emphasis is on speed. Cawthorne Cracker had the race at his mercy when coming to grief at the last at Sedgefield just over 3 weeks ago and warrants plenty of respect, also.
This can go to CAWTHORNE CRACKER who has improved for wind surgery and can make amends for his unlucky fall at Sedgefield last time.

1st (1) (5/2 -25%) Chemical Warfare |
5/2(-25%) | (1) Chemical Warfare 5/2, Course winner who is proving progressive for this yard and has landed back-to-back handicaps at Sedgefield (both 26.3f) in recent weeks. Raised 8 lb for latest victory but looks sure to go well again. In cracking form; another career best latest; up 7lb but bold hat-trick bid anticipated.. |

2nd (2) (4/1 -33%) Jimli's Island |
4/1(-33%) | (2) Jimli's Island 4/1, Turned a corner since joining new yard, landing a brace of Perth handicaps before good second of 10 at Hexham (20.1f, good, 4/1) 27 days ago, sticking to task. Another bold show is on the cards. Won back-to-back 3m hurdles and second in a 2m4f chase since joining stable; player.. |

3rd (3) (5/1 +44%) Ribeye |
5/1(+44%) | (3) Ribeye 5/1, May have needed outing, back from 12 weeks off, when seventh of 11 in handicap chase (11/1) at Hexham (20.1f, soft) 19 days ago but he isn't the easiest to win with these days. Inconsistent; place claims if shrugging off his latest effort now back up in trip.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (9/1 +25%) Play By The Rules |
9/1(+25%) | (7) Play By The Rules 9/1, Modest winner at 19f over hurdles but is yet to score over fences and posted just respectable fifth of 12 to Jimli's Island in handicap chase at Perth (23.8f, good, 7/1) 75 days ago. 2m3f hurdle winner who is hard to recommend on any recent achievements.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (7/1 +42%) Lady Mendoza |
7/1(+42%) | (4) Lady Mendoza 7/1, Nine-race maiden over hurdles and looked unconvincing on switch to this discipline at Hexham 27 days ago. Others more appealing. Didn't jump well on chase debut at Hexham; slipping to a competitive mark but more needed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (16/1 -129%) Croagh Patrick |
16/1(-129%) | (5) Croagh Patrick 16/1, On a long losing run and arrives on back of disappointing effort at Hexham earlier this month. Now tried in visor for first time. Well beaten after a break latest; now on a workable mark as visor replaces cheekpieces.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (6) (9/2 +0%) Ginger Pointe |
9/2(+0%) | (6) Ginger Pointe 9/2, Made a winning yard/chase debut at Market Rasen (21.4f) in August and run to a similar level both starts since, latest when creditable fourth of 10 in handicap chase at same course (23.9f, good to firm) 33 days ago, doing too much too soon. Shortlist material. Won at Market Rasen (2m5f, good) in August but the handicapper looks back in control.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CHEMICAL WARFARE travelled strongly into contention before recording an emphatic success at Sedgefield earlier this month. David Pipe's gelding, now four from 10 over fences, might still have more in the locker and an 8lb rise could prove lenient. Jimli's Island found only one too strong at Hexham recently and is likely to be on the premises again, while Lady Mendoza, who lacked fluency on her chasing debut last time, could step forward with that run under her belt.
JIMLI'S ISLAND has done little wrong for his new yard and will appreciate the step back up in trip after his solid effort at Hexham earlier this month. He gets the nod. Chemical Warfare and Ginger Pointe rate the principal dangers.
David Pipe found successive Sedgefield races to get CHEMICAL WARFARE (nap) back on track and he can complete a northern hat-trick.

Bit more needed to land this in all likelihood. Stepped up on his debut when third at Sedgefield; more needed but that's not ruled out.. |

8th (8) (40/1 -233%) Crazy About Her |
40/1(-233%) | (8) Crazy About Her 40/1, Promising debut when second at Worcester in August but left Olly Murphy after and just seventh of 12 at Sedgefield (16.8f, soft, 20/1) 22 days ago. Second on debut for O Murphy but lesser effort for new yard this month; more needed.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Second in a point-to-point in March, CITY OF DIAMONDS represents a trainer/jockey combination that often do well around here and market support ahead of his Rules debut would be noteworthy. Travis Wheatley has tasted success between the flags and he must be considered on his NH bow, along with Masterpiece. The latter stepped up on his racecourse debut when not beaten far into third at Sedgefield latest and there could be more come.
This can go to a newcomer, with CITY OF DIAMONDS selected over Kids Say Lastgojoe and Travis Wheatley before any betting clues.
Irish point second CITY OF DIAMONDS represents a top team and he gets the vote ahead of Travis Wheatley.
Ths is the racecard key.
