1st (2) (6/1 -20%) Nell's Bells |
6/1(-20%) | (2) Nell's Bells 6/1, Bumper winner who made a successful start over hurdles in Wetherby novice on Boxing Day. Hasn't progressed in 2 outings since but retains potential now handicapping over a much longer trip.
2nd (1) (3/1 +14%) Nights In Venice |
3/1(+14%) | (1) Nights In Venice 3/1, Arrives on the back of placed efforts around 3m at Ayr and Carlisle in recent months. Likely to give another good account.
3rd (6) (2.25/1 +10%) Shesupincourt |
2.25/1(+10%) | (6) Shesupincourt 2.25/1, Back in good form, finishing runner-up on 6 of her last 7 starts. She won't need to pull out much more for first-time cheekpieces.
4th (8) (8/1 +60%) Is So Cute Dimaria |
8/1(+60%) | (8) Is So Cute Dimaria 8/1, Poor form at up to 3m, including in handicaps. First-time blinkers (replacing cheekpieces) need to spark improvement.
|PU| (7) (3/1 +0%) Howzat Hiris |
3/1(+0%) | (7) Howzat Hiris 3/1, Back in form since cheekpieces fitted, building on Ayr third when scoring over C&D under Joshua Thompson 17 days ago. A 4 lb rise may not stop him.
|PU| (5) (22/1 +0%) Bebside Banter |
22/1(+0%) | (5) Bebside Banter 22/1, Much improved when second of 12 in handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (2m, soft) in January but in nothing like the same form twice since. Remains to be seen if this much longer trip helps. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Howzat Hiris is respected after winning over course and distance last month and can go well again despite a 4lb higher mark, while Shesupincourt, who is a potential pace angle, has also performed with credit over C&D recently and warrants consideration in the first-time cheekpieces. However, NIGHTS IN VENICE wasn't beaten far in a deeper-looking race at Carlisle 20 days ago and could be hard to repel at this level with ground conditions likely to suit.
HOWZAT HIRIS can continue his run of good form since fitted with cheekpieces and follow up last month's C&D success. Shesupincourt has headgear added as she bids to end a frustrating sequence of seconds but may have to settle for the runner-up spot again. Nights In Venice and Donald McCain handicap newcomer Nell's Bells also make the shortlist.
Last month's C&D winner HOWZAT HIRIS is just preferred to Nights In Venice, who was a good second at Carlisle last time.

1st (1) (2.25/1 +0%) Cold Sobar |
2.25/1(+0%) | (1) Cold Sobar 2.25/1, €10,000 3-y-o, Westerner gelding. Dam unraced sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 2½m) Baltiman. Off mark in Irish points at third attempt but clearly not short on speed given he won readily over 2m here 17 days ago. Penalty to carry but open to plenty of improvement.
2nd (3) (0.62/1 +44%) Sound And Fury |
0.62/1(+44%) | (3) Sound And Fury 0.62/1, Off the mark in Irish points at second attempt and justified support starting out under Rules in 6-runner maiden at Fontwell (17.7f) in March, responding well. Improved for step up to 20.5f when finding only a pretty useful one too good at Newbury 3 weeks ago. Big player with 7 lb conditional on.
3rd (4) (5.5/1 +54%) Gege Ville |
5.5/1(+54%) | (4) Gege Ville 5.5/1, Landed an Ayr bumper in cosy fashion on debut and found only one too good on hurdling debut there (2m) a year later, clear of rest. Should stay this far but was disappointing over C&D when last seen on Boxing Day. Since had a wind op.
4th (5) (150/1 +25%) Toombridge |
150/1(+25%) | (5) Toombridge 150/1, Finished runner-up in his completed start in Irish points but little short-term promise both hurdles starts last month.
5th (6) (125/1 +17%) Not Your Choice |
125/1(+17%) | (6) Not Your Choice 125/1, Presumably hard to train and looks limited.
6th (7) (66/1 -450%) Brasingaman Bella |
66/1(-450%) | (7) Brasingaman Bella 66/1, Down the field in pair of bumpers. Hurdles debut wasn't devoid of promise but probably needs more time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Former point-to-point winner SOUND AND FURY has made a good start to racing under Rules and made a winning start over hurdles at Exeter in February. He subsequently came up against a potentially decent opponent when he was a good second to one of Nicky Henderson's Irish imports in a similar race at Newbury 22 days ago, which may prove to be good form, and he is taken to go one better today. Fellow pointing recruits Cold Sobar and Langdale Lane look the pick of the opposition.
SOUND AND FURY surpassed his winning form when finding only a fairly useful one too strong at Newbury 3 weeks ago, and with a good-value conditional taking over, he can double his career tally. Fellow previous winners Cold Sobar and Langdale Lane are the obvious threats.
Although he didn't beat a great deal, COLD SOBAR was pretty impressive when winning on his hurdles debut here and is taken to follow up.

1st (6) (6/1 -20%) Here Comes The Man |
6/1(-20%) | (6) Here Comes The Man 6/1, Big-money buy following sole point win. Bettered previous Rules efforts when runner-up on handicap hurdle debut at Ayr (19.5f) in November, beaten only by another improver. Interesting connections opt for a quick switch to chasing and he's one to consider.
2nd (4) (2.75/1 +31%) Court At Slip |
2.75/1(+31%) | (4) Court At Slip 2.75/1, Hurdles winner who has improved for switch to chasing, gaining third success at Sedgefield (27f) on penultimate start in March. Respectable fourth at Carlisle (24.5f) on latest start 3 weeks ago and he should go well again having eased 2 lb since.
3rd (2) (3.5/1 -27%) East Street |
3.5/1(-27%) | (2) East Street 3.5/1, Generally progressive over hurdles last term and matched previous best over fences when landing 5-runner Wetherby handicap (24.2f) 15 days ago. That race did rather fall apart but he's still lightly raced in this sphere. Possibilities.
4th (8) (6.5/1 +54%) Macavity |
6.5/1(+54%) | (8) Macavity 6.5/1, Dual point winner who landed an Aintree bumper on Rules debut last May. Exploits mixed in 4 starts over hurdles though, and he didn't offer a great deal on chase debut at Doncaster (20.5f) 4 weeks ago.
5th (5) (5.5/1 -10%) Camp Belan |
5.5/1(-10%) | (5) Camp Belan 5.5/1, Thorough stayer who got off the mark at Kelso in November and produced easily his best effort since when third at Hexham (3m) 16 days ago, giving best only late on. In the mix with a repeat.
|PU| (1) (7/1 -27%) Glittering Love |
7/1(-27%) | (1) Glittering Love 7/1, 11-y-o who stepped up markedly on his comeback run over hurdles when second over fences at Kelso (26f) in December and again found only one too good at Hexham (31.9f) 4 weeks ago, edged out on line. Expected to make his presence felt again.
|PU| (7) (11/1 +0%) Crixus's Escape |
11/1(+0%) | (7) Crixus's Escape 11/1, Runner-up twice off significantly higher marks last term but struggled to make an impact in handful of starts so far this campaign, albeit his latest run best overlooked on back of being hampered early. Still, others rate stronger. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
East Street has enured mixed fortunes lately, but retains scope for further progress and has a live chance of following up last month's Wetherby success from just a 1lb higher mark. However, better value might lie with GLITTERING LOVE, who returned from a short break with a solid effort when second at Hexham in mid-March and a 2lb rise may underestimate him judged on his peak form over fences. Chasing debutant Here Comes The Man, a former point-to-point winner, is also respected.
An expensive purchase on the back of success between the Flags, HERE COMES THE MAN ran his best race over hurdles when beaten only by another improver on handicap debut in November, and with the prospect of more to come, he could be worth chancing on chase debut. Glittering Love and East Street are others to consider, along with Camp Belan.
Conditions should be deep enough for GLITTERING LOVE to show his form and Conor Rabbitt's claim is welcomed.

1st (5) (3.5/1 +13%) Fingal's Hill |
3.5/1(+13%) | (5) Fingal's Hill 3.5/1, Fair bumper winner who landed a C&D novice on his final start in 2021/22. All the better for reappearance when doubling hurdles tally at Doncaster (did it cosily) and he's not yet exposed.
2nd (3) (2.75/1 +31%) Holmes St Georges |
2.75/1(+31%) | (3) Holmes St Georges 2.75/1, Bumper winner who has displayed improved form switched to handicaps, successful at Musselburgh in November and backed that up with a brace of runner-up efforts. Engaged 5.50 Ballinrobe Friday.
3rd (8) (7/1 +22%) Mcgowan's Pass |
7/1(+22%) | (8) Mcgowan's Pass 7/1, Without a victory since early 2020 but evidently retains plenty of enthusiasm aged 12 given he was runner-up from his reduced mark at Wetherby 3 weeks ago. Left on that perch so he's a big player.
4th (4) (3.5/1 +30%) Thereisnodoubt |
3.5/1(+30%) | (4) Thereisnodoubt 3.5/1, Back to his best when gaining his first success for current connections at Kelso in January. Hasn't done a great deal wrong since and he's versatile regarding trip.
5th (6) (11/1 +8%) Onward Route |
11/1(+8%) | (6) Onward Route 11/1, In excellent heart over hurdles this summer, winning 2m novice events at Hexham and Uttoxeter. Bad error prevented further success switched to fences at former track in September but off since reportedly bleeding at Kelso. In very good hands, at least.
6th (2) (4.5/1 -13%) Word Has It |
4.5/1(-13%) | (2) Word Has It 4.5/1, Dual-hurdle winner who showed no ill-effects from an unsuccessful return to chasing when a fine second to Bubble Dubi at Stratford last month. Same mark and no surprise to see him go well again.
7th (1) (28/1 -100%) Band Of Outlaws |
28/1(-100%) | (1) Band Of Outlaws 28/1, One-time useful hurdler who has been seen out sparingly in the last couple of years. Well held all 3 starts for current yard so hard to support, even from falling mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
WORD HAS IT may be winless in over two years but recent efforts have suggested that he is getting closer, and these race conditions could provide his best opportunity yet. Mcgowan's Pass bounced back to form with a strong runner-up effort at Wetherby and he is likely to be thereabouts, along with Doncaster scorer Fingal's Hill and C&D winner Fostered Phil.
WORD HAS IT got back to his very best when runner-up returned to hurdling at Stratford a month ago and from the same mark, hopes are high that he can go one place better. McGowan's Pass is also well weighted these days and is a threat, with Fingal's Hill another to consider.
This can go to WORD HAS IT (nap) who ran really well behind an improver at Stratford and he gets in here off the same mark.

1st (4) (1.5/1 +50%) High Moon |
1.5/1(+50%) | (4) High Moon 1.5/1, Fairly useful hurdles winner who comes here in good nick over fences, edged out dying strides having jumped well over this trip at Hexham (20f, heavy) 18 days ago. 3 lb higher here but that shouldn't prevent another bold showing.
2nd (3) (3.33/1 +26%) Arthur's Quay |
3.33/1(+26%) | (3) Arthur's Quay 3.33/1, Winless over fences in Ireland but improved model for new stable, completing hat-trick in good style at Sedgefield (17f, soft) in January. Not disgraced either outing since but his present mark does just demand that little bit more.
3rd (1) (4.5/1 +18%) Bushypark |
4.5/1(+18%) | (1) Bushypark 4.5/1, Not the easiest to catch right over hurdles but did confirm promise of previous run with victory over fences in 3m6f handicap at Catterick in January, jumping really well. Struggling some way out in Midlands National 4 weeks ago though, so he'll have to shrug that off here.
|PU| (2) (3.33/1 +52%) Evander |
3.33/1(+52%) | (2) Evander 3.33/1, Took well to chasing in 2020/21, signing off with a win in 2½m Ludlow handicap. Missed best part of 2 years but retains plenty of ability judged on his midfield effort at Carlisle (20f, soft) in March. Market support from an easing mark would look significant.
|PU| (5) (25/1 -56%) Tonto's Spirit |
25/1(-56%) | (5) Tonto's Spirit 25/1, Added another success to his tally at his beloved Cartmel (21f) last summer. Entitled to be sharper for first run for 5 months at Carlisle 4 weeks ago but he may find a few too good again here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
HIGH MOON has been unlucky not to get his head in front this season and he went close once more at Hexham last time out. The eight-year-old could see his luck change on this occasion, with easy Sedgefield winner Blue Hawaii and the capable Bushypark looking best placed to chase him home. Already a three-time winner this season, Arthur's Quay cannot be ruled out either.
Fit from a spin on the Flat, BLUE HAWAII produced a career-best effort over fences when scoring with plenty to spare at Sedgefield 23 days ago and a 6 lb rise shouldn't prevent another bold bid given she remains low-mileage in this sphere. High Moon is knocking on the door and rates a lead threat, whilst Evander is another worth keeping an eye on.
A good handicap. EVANDER is back on a good mark and it doesn't take too much imagination to envisage a return to form from him.

1st (5) (1.62/1 +41%) Ex S'Elance |
1.62/1(+41%) | (5) Ex S'Elance 1.62/1, Returned from successful spell in points with win in chase at Hexham in March. Quickly back on track when second there last time and should give another good showing.
2nd (7) (3.5/1 +59%) Brickadank |
3.5/1(+59%) | (7) Brickadank 3.5/1, Remains a maiden and was unable to justify market support when a remote fourth in a handicap at Market Rasen on chasing debut. Hard to make a case for.
3rd (6) (1.88/1 +62%) Broomfields Kan |
1.88/1(+62%) | (6) Broomfields Kan 1.88/1, Winner between the flags but long-standing maiden under Rules and last two efforts have been poor. Not completely dismissed in a thin race however, with new headgear tried.
4th (1) (12/1 +25%) Tico Times |
12/1(+25%) | (1) Tico Times 12/1, Won a trio of handicaps during second half of 2022 for Dianne Sayer. Off 4 months and hasn't fired in two outings for current yard.
|PU| (2) (10/1 +50%) Hell On Earth |
10/1(+50%) | (2) Hell On Earth 10/1, Several creditable efforts to his name in Ireland but not seen for 20 months prior to tame display at Hexham 16 days ago. Plenty to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Thunder In Milan put it all together when winning at Musselburgh last month and though he merits respect from a 4lb higher mark, preference is for EX S'ELANCE. Victor Thompson's charge found only a well-treated rival too strong when narrowly denied at Hexham 16 days ago, he remains open to improvement over fences and compensation could await now nudged up just 1lb in the handicap. Six One Nine heads the remainder.
EX S'ELANCE wasted no time getting back to form when second at Hexham last time, just touched off on the line having arguably pressed on too soon, so he's well worth a chance to resume winning ways. Six One Nine should give his running again and last-time-out winner Thunder In Milan deserves respect.
Lucinda Russell could enjoy a timely tonic ahead of Corach Rambler's National bid with another win for THUNDER IN MILAN.

1st (7) (3.5/1 +78%) Lincoln Burrows |
3.5/1(+78%) | (7) Lincoln Burrows 3.5/1, Maiden Irish pointer showed who has hinted at ability in maiden/novice hurdles for this yard and may take a step forward now handicapping.
2nd (2) (10/1 -122%) Moonlight Glory |
10/1(-122%) | (2) Moonlight Glory 10/1, Twice a winner over hurdles in Ireland and gained a deserved first success for this yard over 2m here in Feburary. Not in the same form over fences at Sedgefield since but respected back hurdling.
3rd (3) (3/1 -9%) Enemy At The Gate |
3/1(-9%) | (3) Enemy At The Gate 3/1, Tongue tied first time and much his most encouraging run to date when second of 12 in C&D handicap (heavy) 28 days ago. That race has thrown up a couple of winenrs and much respected despite a 6 lb rise.
4th (6) (50/1 +38%) The White Volcano |
50/1(+38%) | (6) The White Volcano 50/1, Veteran who lost his way in Ireland and hard to derive any encouragement from his exploits upon joining present yard, eighth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Hexham 18 days ago. Easily passed over.
5th (11) (7/1 +30%) Farne Island |
7/1(+30%) | (11) Farne Island 7/1, First form when second of 6 over C&D (soft) 17 days ago. That gives her something to build on but she is 3 lb out of the handicap this time.
6th (1) (6/1 +20%) Turning Gold |
6/1(+20%) | (1) Turning Gold 6/1, Third success at Leicester when bolting up in a selling hurdle there (20.5f, heavy) at the end of December. Better effort in handicaps since when a respectable fourth at Uttoxeter 14 days ago.
|F| (8) (16/1 -14%) Star Vantage |
16/1(-14%) | (8) Star Vantage 16/1, Runner-up twice in bumpers but yet to better modest form over hurdles, one-paced 8 lengths fifth of 14 in 2m Hexham handicap when last seen in November. Needs to have improved during his time off.
|PU| (5) (8/1 +50%) Gerolamo Cardano |
8/1(+50%) | (5) Gerolamo Cardano 8/1, Best effort for some time when taking 16-runner handicap hurdle at Leicester (20.5f, heavy) in December but well below that level on both completed starts since.
|PU| (10) (8.5/1 +39%) Red Ochre |
8.5/1(+39%) | (10) Red Ochre 8.5/1, Shed his maiden tag at Kelso (21f) in 2021. Pulled up all 4 starts last year but back to form when placed in 3 handicaps this year, third of 12 over this trip at Sedgefield on latest.
|PU| (9) (12/1 -60%) Celestial Fashion |
12/1(-60%) | (9) Celestial Fashion 12/1, First impact over hurdles when returning from wind surgery to finish second of 12 on 17f Carlisle handicap debut 4 weeks ago. Considered. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ENEMY AT THE GATE appeared to relish a step up in trip when filling the runner-up spot over C&D last month and he could atone for that defeat, though a 6lb higher mark will require him to pull out more. Turning Gold drops in class and must enter calculations along with Celestial Fashion, who makes her second start following wind surgery.
ENEMY AT THE GATE is worth a chance to build on his improved second over C&D last month. Moonlight Glory, a course winner on his latest hurdle start, and last month's Carlisle runner-up Celestial Fashion may give him most to think about.
In what looks a competitive event for the grade WARRIORS STORY is taken to follow up last year's win by beating Enemy At The Gate.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
