1st (10) (4/1 +27%) Skye Breeze |
4/1(+27%) | (10) Skye Breeze 4/1, C&D winner. Career best when winning 10-runner handicap at Southwell (1½m) 30 days ago, keeping on well. Ought to remain competitive up 6 lb. Lightly raced since winning twice last winter, but won at Southwell last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (12/1 +25%) Valsad |
12/1(+25%) | (4) Valsad 12/1, Latest win at Southwell in September. 9/2, first run since leaving Harry & Roger Charlton when creditable 3 lengths fourth of 11 to Queen of Ipanema in handicap at Southwell (11f) 21 days ago. Behind three of these when fourth on stable debut at Southwell and needs to step up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (8/1 +20%) Tenerife Sunshine |
8/1(+20%) | (9) Tenerife Sunshine 8/1, Creditable 1¾ lengths third of 11 to Queen of Ipanema in handicap at Southwell (1f, 4/1) 21 days ago. Respected off an unchanged mark. Extra furlong should suit and he remains relatively unexposed; one for the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (13/2 +35%) Onesmoothoperator |
13/2(+35%) | (1) Onesmoothoperator 13/2, Back to winning ways on the right day when bagging the rearranged November Handicap over C&D. Good third here next time and not seen to best effect over 2m here on New Year's Day (treated as if still in form). Won the November handicap over C&D and much respected down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (11/2 +15%) Queen Of Ipanema |
11/2(+15%) | (3) Queen Of Ipanema 11/2, C&D winner. Eight wins from 17 Flat runs. Two wins from 5 runs last year. Fourth of 6 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 13/2) 5 days ago, needing stiffer test. Should have a big say now stepping back up in trip. 8-17 on the AW; not seen to best effect last time; should be suited by this sort of test. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (11/1 -29%) Haveyoumissedme |
11/1(-29%) | (8) Haveyoumissedme 11/1, C&D winner. Fared better than of late when 3¼ lengths sixth of 11 to Queen of Ipanema in handicap (12/1) at Southwell (11f) 21 days ago. Well treated if building on that. Out of the frame in four starts since back from 404 days off in October; enough to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (5/2 +0%) Beraz |
5/2(+0%) | (2) Beraz 5/2, Two wins from 5 runs last year. Creditable fourth of 13 in 1¼m handicap at this course on New Year's Day, needing stronger gallop. Back up in trip. Has good chance on form. Good third in November Handicap and fourth in hot handicap last time; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (8/1 -23%) Rhythmic Intent |
8/1(-23%) | (6) Rhythmic Intent 8/1, Fifteen runs since last win in 2021. 4/1, bit below form sixth of 10 in handicap at Southwell (1½m) 34 days ago but claims on his runner-up effort over this C&D prior to that. Close second over C&D in December, but didn't build on it next time; losing run up to 15. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (25/1 -39%) Furzig |
25/1(-39%) | (11) Furzig 25/1, Course winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. 22/1, good 1¼ lengths second of 11 to Queen of Ipanema in handicap at Southwell (11f) 21 days ago, running on. Second behind Queen Of Ipanema last time with three of these behind; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (125/1 -25%) Nova Legend |
125/1(-25%) | (5) Nova Legend 125/1, Won at Ffos Las in August 2022 but not seen since a below-par run at Haydock in September of that year (final start for James Ferguson). A watching brief has to be the percentage call. Will do well to win a race like this on stable debut after 17 months off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Skye Breeze justified favouritism on his return to the all-weather at Southwell last month following a run on turf at Catterick in October. However, a 6lb rise for that success may leave him vulnerable for win purposes on this occasion and the vote goes to BERAZ. Stepping back up in trip appears to be the right move based on his fourth here on New Year's Day, while others to consider include Queen Of Ipanema and Valsad.
QUEEN OF IPANEMA had a few of these rivals in behind her when scoring over 11f at Southwell last month. Geroge Boughey's filly wasn't seen to best effect in a race which tested speed at Wolverhampton last Saturday and is taken to resume winning ways now stepping back up to 1½m (3-3 at trip coming into this). Beraz, Aqwaam and Tenerife Sunshine head the dangers in a competitive opener.
This can go to BERAZ (nap) whose third in the November Handicap was even better than it looked. His latest fourth was another fine run.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Explorers Way |
(9) (5/1 -122%)5/1(-122%) | (9) Explorers Way 5/1, Won 6-runner handicap at this C&D 22 days ago, idling inside the final 1f but always doing enough to hold on. 2 lb higher mark looks manageable and he's high on the shortlist. All three wins have come here including over this trip last time; should go well again.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Gold Aura |
(2) (7/2 +22%)7/2(+22%) | (2) Gold Aura 7/2, Below form fourth of 8 in maiden at Chelmsford City (7f, 7/2) 21 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Hood on 1st time. On a workable mark if able to recapture her best form back in handicap. In the frame in eight of her nine starts; another placing may be her best hope; hood on. |

Masterpainter |
(8) (9/2 +10%)9/2(+10%) | (8) Masterpainter 9/2, Not disgraced when third of 11 in handicap at this course (8f) 17 days ago, not clear run briefly 2f out. Back up in trip. Respected. Ran well when third over 1m here last time and well worth another go over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Showmedemoney |
(5) (10/1 +0%)10/1(+0%) | (5) Showmedemoney 10/1, Course winner. Three wins from 18 runs last year. 40/1, again below form when sixth of 9 in handicap at this course (8f) 17 days ago. Back up in trip. Others arrive in better heart. Not at his best lately and usually seen over shorter, but is 2-2 in Class 6 handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lochnaver |
(10) (15/2 +6%)15/2(+6%) | (10) Lochnaver 15/2, C&D winner. Latest win here in November. 16/1, seventh of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 24 days ago, finding little. Back at last winning mark but has bit to prove now. Off the same mark as when successful over C&D in November; could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sparkle In His Eye |
(3) (20/1 -100%)20/1(-100%) | (3) Sparkle In His Eye 20/1, Course winner. Latest win at Musselburgh in August. 33/1, fifth of 8 in handicap at this course (7.1f) 14 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Needs a couple of these to falter. Knows how to win, being 5-19 on the AW and 7-35 overall; one for the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Elusive Truth |
(7) (25/1 +0%)25/1(+0%) | (7) Elusive Truth 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 50/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 20 days ago. Others have achieved more. Out of the frame in all four starts; best watched unless market indicates otherwise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Busby |
(6) (33/1 -106%)33/1(-106%) | (6) Busby 33/1, Another laboured effort when last of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 66 days ago. Hard to have any faith in at present. 4lb below his last winning mark, but has failed to beat a rival in his last two starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thunder Max |
(1) (33/1 -65%)33/1(-65%) | (1) Thunder Max 33/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2021. Last of 12 in handicap at this course (8f, 28/1) 4 days ago. Back up in trip. Others preferred, Ran well on stable debut here in December; has failed to beat a rival in both starts since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
EXPLORERS WAY returned to winning ways over C&D on his latest start and a 2lb rise is unlikely to stop him from doubling up in what appears to be a more than winnable contest on paper. Gold Aura boasts a consistent level of form and is likely to be in the mix on her return to handicap company, with Rise Hall appealing most of the remainder.
EXPLORERS WAY gained his first success in excess of 1m when scoring over C&D last month and Brian Ellison's gelding looks capable of following up after a minimal rise in the weights. Masterpainter made the pdoium over 1m here last time and can go well again, with Gold Aura also worth a market check returning to handicap company.
Preference is for MASTERPAINTER whose pedigree suggests he is well worth another go over a longer trip.

Royal Prospect |
(11) (11/2 +35%)11/2(+35%) | (11) Royal Prospect 11/2, 4-time course winner. Latest win here in January. Creditable second of 10 in handicap at this C&D (13/2) 17 days ago, clear of rest. Looks right back in form and he's well treated on old form. In fine form over C&D lately; finishing second to a triple subsequent winner last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beylerbeyi |
(2) (11/8 -15%)11/8(-15%) | (2) Beylerbeyi 11/8, 7/2, very good second of 11 in handicap at this C&D 31 days ago. Has best chance on form. Second behind a triple subsequent winner over C&D last time; respected off the same mark. |

(9) (66/1 +34%)66/1(+34%) | (9) Art Of Romance 66/1, 28/1, last of 9 in handicap at this course (12.4f) 23 days ago. Significantly back down in trip. Eight-race maiden who has gone the wrong way over a variety of trips; look elsewhere. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
ROYAL PROSPECT won a classified event over C&D on his penultimate start before running with plenty of credit back in a handicap here when only beaten a length into second. Despite being 4lb higher, the nine-year-old is taken to continue in this vein of form. Beylerbeyi went close here on his most recent start and has to enter the reckoning along with Tees George.
BEYLERBEYI is unexposed for his current yard and the form of his latest C&D second is working out very well, so he's worth chancing to go one better at the possible expense of last-time-out winner Tees George, Royal Prospect and Spartan Fighter are also worth considering.
Both BEYLERBEYI and Royal Prospect chased home triple subsequent winners on their last starts. The former races off the same mark.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Harvanna |
(1) (8/11 +20%)8/11(+20%) | (1) Harvanna 8/11, Progressive filly last summer, defying a penalty at Yarmouth (5.2f) in good style. Shaped well making all-weather/handicap debut after 6 months off when fourth at this course (6f) on New Year's Day and there's every chance she will build on that back down at 5f. Fourth in warm handicap on return here last month; major player with run under her belt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Torvar |
(4) (8/1 +33%)8/1(+33%) | (4) Torvar 8/1, Relished the return to more positive tactics when winning 8-runner handicap (15/2) at Chelmsford City (5f) 18 days ago, forging clear. Hefty 9 lb rise to contend with but is on a roll at present so has to be respected. Has won two of his last three starts; 11lb higher but folly to dismiss him in current mood. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bint Alfella |
(5) (12/1 +70%)12/1(+70%) | (5) Bint Alfella 12/1, Ran below the level of her first 2 starts kept to the minimum trip when sixth of 9 in maiden at Wolverhampton (5.1f, 5/1) 34 days ago. Makes handicap debut and may well prove a different proposition. Runner-up in first two starts but faded last time; improvement needed on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Zola Power |
(6) (22/1 -57%)22/1(-57%) | (6) Zola Power 22/1, Winner at Wolverhampton in January. 16/1, respectable third of 6 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 5 days ago, albeit once again a touch keener than ideal. Drop back to this trip should suit so he's not without hope. 5f Wolverhampton winner last month; keen-going sort may appreciate return to this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mini Magna |
(2) (28/1 +78%)28/1(+78%) | (2) Mini Magna 28/1, Two wins at Bath last summer. 9/1, faced competition for the lead when tenth of 11 in nursery at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 5 months ago. First run for yard after leaving Ed Dunlop (16,000 gns). Won twice at Bath for Ed Dunlop last August; stable debut after five months off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HARVANNA should appreciate this drop in trip after weakening late on over 6f here last month and, off 1lb lower, Karl Burke's speedster rates as the one to side with. Torvar fairly bolted up over 5f at Chelmsford most recently, but he finds himself on a career-high mark and that asks a question of him, while Balon D'or's official rating continues to fall and he's another to keep an eye on.
A trappy sprint in which preference is for HARVANNA, who was progressive in a handful of starts on turf last year and shaped very well on return/handicap debut when fourth here over 6f on New Year's Day. She can get the better of Torvar, who ran out an impressive winner at Chelmsford last month, with Bint Alfella rounding off the shortlist now heading down the handicap route.
This can go to HARVANNA who only faded late on when returning from 173 days off in a Class 2 handicap over 6f here last month.

Good Morning Alex |
(6) (7/2 -17%)7/2(-17%) | (6) Good Morning Alex 7/2, C&D winner. Latest win here in January. Third of 5 in handicap at this C&D (5/2) 6 days ago. May yet have more to offer and should be thereabouts. C&D winner who found the race not run to suit in hat-trick bid here last time; 3lb lower. |

(3) (9/2 +0%)9/2(+0%) | (3) Likeashadow 9/2, C&D winner. 3/1, good second of 12 in handicap at this course (7.1f) 12 days ago. Shortlist material. The most exposed in the field, but he likes it here; can't be left out of calculations. |

Solar Bentley |
(5) (12/1 +14%)12/1(+14%) | (5) Solar Bentley 12/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Creditable fifth of 12 in handicap at this course (7.1f, 18/1) 12 days ago, inadequate test. May well do better and worthy of consideration. Out of the frame in all four starts; extra furlong should suit, but more needed. |

Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Out of the frame in all seven starts including on stable debut last time; cheekpieces on. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LIKEASHADOW finished an agonisingly close second over 7f at this track last month and, having been nudged up just 1lb, he can make his presence felt over the mile this time around. The class-dropping Good Morning Alex rates as the main danger to the selection having finished an admirable third here latest, while this drop back to a mile promises to suit Due Consideration, who was caught late on over 1m2f here in September.
NIGHT SAFARI has been gelded since last seen and he's bred to be better than a mark of 65, so he's worth taking a chance on against mostly more exposed rivals. Likeashadow arrives in top form, so he's an obvious danger, while Good Morning Alex can't be dismissed.
The vote goes to GOOD MORNING ALEX who got outpaced in his hat-trck bid here last time, but this may be run more to suit him.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Angelica Catalani arguably sets the standard on her latest C&D fifth, but the daughter of Mondialiste could prove vulnerable to one of the debutants. MEMORIES MAKER, a half-brother to Group 3 winner Class Is Class, tops the bill. Charlie Johnston's gelding ticks plenty of the right boxes and he could have too much class for these rivals. Any market support for fellow newcomer More Than A Feelin would be interesting.
This may go to one of the newcomers and MEMORIES MAKER is much respected on his racecourse bow. Strive can also make his presence felt.
This can go to one of the newcomers in the shape of MEMORIES MAKER. The stable has done well with its debutants in the last few weeks.

Mews House |
(3) (25/1 +24%)25/1(+24%) | (3) Mews House 25/1, 7/1, first run since leaving Rebecca Menzies when fourth of 5 in handicap at Hamilton (5f, firm). Off 7 months. Something to find on form. Front-runner who returns from eight months off; has run well fresh, but others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Water Of Leith made the most of a career-low mark when scything through the field to score at Southwell in December. However, a 5lb rise in the handicap may leave Jim Goldie's charge vulnerable, with November C&D winner CRYPTO QUEST edging the vote. The son of Profitable is only 1lb higher in the ratings and is taken to make his stable bow a winning one. Sixcor should also get involved if breaking better.
C&D winner URBAN DANDY has dropped to a handy mark and was unlucky not to finish much closer here last week. He gets the nod in the finale. Water of Leith and Latin Five also enter calculations.
The vote goes to WATER OF LEITH who returned to winning form at Southwell last time. He may again get the solid pace he needs.
Ths is the racecard key.
