12:50 Newcastle Maiden (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A promising second on her debut at Wetherby, AMELIA'S STAR is likely to have plenty more improvement forthcoming and she can put that experience to good use on this occasion. She gets the vote ahead of newcomer Ce Mi Run, who is out of a winning jumper in France and hails from a yard that knows how to ready one first time out. The Nigel Twiston-Davies stable has been in excellent form of late, which bodes well for another debutant in the shape of Truly Yours.

AMELIA'S STAR had to come from further back than ideal when second in a bumper at Wetherby a couple of months ago and there's a good chance she can go one better with a performance of similar merit. Ce Mi Run makes plenty of appeal on paper first time out and Arctic Duchess is quite closely matched with the selection on form.

Ce Mi Run is an interesting newcomer but preference is for AMELIA'S STAR, who was a promising second on her debut at Wetherby.

13:20 Newcastle Maiden (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A 90,000-pounds purchase as a two-year-old, BLUE BETTY looks to have been found a nice opportunity on debut by shrewd connections and she can strike at the first time of asking. Girl Of Gold showed a modicum of improvement from her first to her second start when fifth at Doncaster in November and is likely to have a say, along with Scavengers Reign, who comes from the point-to-point scene.

BLUE BETTY is from a good family and with a yard that can get one ready first time out, so she's worth a chance to make a winning debut. Scavengers Reign is an interesting recruit from points and Centurion's Sister should be able to better her debut at Carlisle.

Fergal O'Brien does very well in mares' bumpers and his debutante BLUE BETTY earns the vote ahead of Scavengers Reign.

13:55 Newcastle Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FROMHERETOETERNITY looked to be booked for a highly creditable second in Listed company at Haydock before falling at the last and compensation may await. A taking winner at Hexham on her previous start, Jennie Candlish's eight-year-old should appreciate the drop back in trip, with the hat-trick-seeking Ascending Lark looking best placed to chase her home on handicap debut, despite having not run since last April. A respectable second over slightly further at Kelso, She's Notjoeking is another to consider.

Successful on each of her 2 starts in mares' maiden/novice hurdles upon joining Harry Derham last spring, ASCENDING LARK appeals as the type to progress further in handicaps this season, and she earns the vote to complete the hat-trick back from 9 months off. Fromheretoeternity and She's Notjoeking head up the dangers.

The very lightly raced 7yo ASCENDING LARK is 2-2 for Harry Derham and is taken to complete a hat-trick on her handicap debut.

14:25 Newcastle Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Although Aboutdamntime never threatened when finishing last in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham, the six-year-old must enter calculations if judged on his previous victory at Carlisle. Lawrenny scored at the second time of asking over hurdles at Wetherby and another bold bid looks assured. However, they may be worth taking on with hurdles/stable debutant JUPITER DES MOTTES, who created a fine impression when landing a Wetherby bumper in March last year.

LAWRENNY showed the benefit of his initial experience when landing a Wetherby novice last month and, with further improvement in the pipeline now stepping back up in trip, he's taken to defy a penalty. Young Getaway and Jupiter des Mottes are a couple of the others who deserve respect.

The step up in trip looks to be the right move for YOUNG GETAWAY, who has been a promising third on both hurdle starts.

14:55 Newcastle Handicap Chase (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TORNEO has been a model of consistency since being sent over fences and the five-year-old was able to record a deserved first chasing success at Taunton. Jamie Snowden's charge may well have more in his locker so a 5lb rise does not look harsh and he is taken to go in again. Cold Sobar finished third behind King Of Tara at Carlisle last month and although the latter has subsequently disappointed, neither should be underestimated.

TORNEO confirmed himself progressive in this sphere when scoring quite comfortably at Taunton and can strike again. The lightly-raced Cold Sobar was a good third to King of Tara at Carlisle on his chase bow after a lay-off and will surely improve on that.

The most progressive contender is the 5yo TORNEO (nap) who won last time and can go in again. The main danger is King Of Tara.

5/2(-43%)
(3) Jacks Parrot 5/2, Has improved since joining this yard, winning at Uttoxeter and Perth in April, and upped his game further when good second in Tommy Whittle at Haydock (25.6f, heavy) last month. Given time to recover and needs considering.
Produced his best form yet when a clear second in Haydock's Tommy Whittle (3m1f).

4/1(+11%)
(4) Jet Legs 4/1, Winner of a pair of handicap chases around 3m last winter but just respectable efforts at best so far this term and bit more needed in first-time headgear.
Coming to hand by the looks; off last winning mark and now tried in cheekpieces.

14/1(+30%)
(6) Carrigeen Castle 14/1, Much improved sent chasing last season, landing handicaps at this course and Wetherby (2). Below par both starts this term, however, including when upped to this trip over C&D last time.
Record of 3-9 over fences but the wins came at a lower level; may need his best form yet.

(8) Prince Des Fichaux 10/1, Winner of Ffos Las handicap on second start over fences/final run for Sam Thomas in April 2023. Went close twice in higher-grade handicap chases at Newcastle last winter (including this race) and step back in right direction at Ayr 3 weeks ago. Dangerous to discount.
Eider runner-up last term; third at Ayr but only four ran and this race is stronger.

Santonito

12
12/1(+14%)
(2) Santonito 12/1, Fairly useful hurdler for Gordon Elliott and made an encouraging start chasing for his new yard with third-place finishes at Uttoxeter and Southwell in early summer. Sound return to action at Bangor but reportedly bled when well held at Wetherby since. Headgear back on.
Made a likeable start for this yard until bleeding last time; chance if the wheels stay on.

15:30 Newcastle Handicap Chase (Class 3) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Cutting back in trip can assist JACKS PARROT, who was outstayed by the winner when finishing a clear second over an extended 3m1f in the Tommy Whittle at Haydock. Nudged up 1lb, the six-year-old has plenty more to offer and can gain a third success over fences since connections recruited him from France last year. Jet Legs is a notable threat with first-time cheekpieces potentially a source of improvement. Choosethenews also has the ability to figure, but needs to bounce back from a no-show at Carlisle.

JACKS PARROT confirmed himself still on the upgrade when an excellent second in the Tommy Whittle at Haydock and can resume winning ways back down in class. Prince des Fichaux and If Not For Dylan are both lurking on dangerous marks and rate the main threats.

Jacks Parrot is solid but a chance is taken on SANTONITO who had an excuse last time and his previous run reads really well.

8/1(-23%)
(4) Authorized Mission 8/1, Never figured in trio of bumpers for Iain Jardine but improved at the third attempt in this sphere/for present yard when runner-up in a 17f maiden here last month. Only seventh on handicap bow back at this course recently but he could be seen in a better light now that he moves up in trip.
Made no impact here on handicap debut but the step up in trip could be a positive move.

(5) Ninetofive 12/1, Solid efforts in maiden/novice company at Hexham during spring 2023 but he showed precious little when returning from a lengthy absence at Kelso in October.
Pulled up in October after long absence but may have needed it; promising in spring 2023.

Wainwright

9/2(+50%)
(9) Wainwright 9/2, Has failed to trouble the judge in 4 starts to date but there have been positive signs, including when seventh of 18 on return/handicap bow at Ayr (20.4f, soft) where he shaped as though he'd be better for the run. Improvement may well be on the way.
Soundly beaten on all 4 starts but in good hands and no surprise to see a big step forward.

(6) Tees Comp's Clive 16/1, Shaped better than the bare result in his qualifying runs but it's hard to be positive about this 7-y-o on the back of a poor handicap debut display at Carlisle.
Pulled up on handicap debut but it remains early days and he has a pretty useful pedigree.

12/1(+14%)
(3) Uokhun 12/1, Third 3 times on the bounce over 2m in November/ December but failed to improve for the step up to 20.4f at Southwell on New Year's Day. Serious stamina question mark surrounds her now faced with an even stiffer test.
Has shown promise; could be in the mix now up in trip and back down in grade.

6th (1) Glen Road (7/2 +22%)
Glen Road

3.5
7/2(+22%)
(1) Glen Road 7/2, Has improved in 2 starts at Wetherby since returning from a break in December, latterly staying on into third in the 19.7f handicap won by Chasingouttheblues (winner again since). Shapes as though this stiffer test will be right up his street and he's a key player off the same mark.
Promising third over 2m3f on handicap debut and he's open to improvement now up in trip.
7
7th (7) Lucky Soldier (9/2 +40%)
Lucky Soldier

4.5
9/2(+40%)
(7) Lucky Soldier 9/2, Encouraging second in an Ayr bumper on debut and some fair form to his name in this sphere, shaping fairly well on return (first run following a wind op) at Kelso where he was fifth in an 11-runner handicap over 21f. Now 2 lb lower and he's one to consider.
Fair fifth at Kelso on reappearance but could build on that if settling better; a possible.

8th (10) Reagrove Lord (5/1 -43%)
Reagrove Lord

5
5/1(-43%)
(10) Reagrove Lord 5/1, Remains a maiden following 13 attempts under Rules but went closer to winning than ever before when beaten ½-length into second at Ayr (21.4f, heavy) earlier this month, in turn pulling clear of the rest. Reproduction of that effort would put him firmly in the picture here.
Went close at Ayr last time and this in-form contender could be bang there once more.

9th (2) Geordies Dream (12/1 +14%)
Geordies Dream

12
12/1(+14%)
(2) Geordies Dream 12/1, Off the mark at Kelso last May but pulled up in handicap chase on return/belated debut over fences at Carlisle in November. Low-mileage for a 10-y-o and certainly not without hope returned to this sphere, provided his stamina passes the test.
Pulled up on chase debut in November but won novice hurdle last May and not written off.

Fairly Fulling

40/1(-100%)
(8) Fairly Fulling 40/1, Standout effort over hurdles (modest form) when fourth of 10 in a Hexham maiden on penultimate start. Failed to build on that next time but perhaps this switch to handicap company will be the catalyst for some improvement.
Goes handicapping off a lowly mark but he hasn't shown enough to have compelling claims.

(11) Donny's Fortune 20/1, Dual point winner but has offered little in 3 maiden hurdles this season and will need to leave that form a long way behind if he's to make an impact on this handicap debut.
Two-time 3m point winner; goes handicapping off a basement mark but improvement is needed.

16:05 Newcastle Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 22f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

None of these are rock-solid, but perhaps REAGROVE LORD could be the answer if building on a near-miss under today's rider in a similar event at Ayr. His 4lb higher mark may look harsh on face value but, considering he was well clear of the rest in that race, this could still be well within reach. Authorized Mission and Lucky Soldier, who tries a first-time tongue-tie, lack consistency but can also figure prominently if on a going day.

This step up in trip could be just the ticket for WAINWRIGHT, who is entitled to come on for his handicap debut spin at Ayr where he was returning from a nine-month absence and, with just four runs under his belt, his best days are surely ahead of him. Glen Road is also likely to benefit from this stiffer test and he is feared most, although Authorized Mission is yet another who promises to be suited by going up in distance and is shortlisted, along with Lucky Soldier and Reagrove Lord.

Topweight GLEN ROAD is open to improvement now up in trip on his second handicap start and he earns the vote ahead of Reagrove Lord.
