10/3(+39%)
(4) Faithfulflyer 10/3, Had a productive first season for Sandy Thomson, scoring twice (including over C&D). Improved further in defeat subsequently, good third on return/following wind op at Kelso (16.2f) 31 days ago. That ought to have brought him on and he's another in the mix.

LTO Selection:

12:35 Musselburgh Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

This looks a more competitive renewal than the one Rickety Gate landed last year, but he merits respect from just 2lb above that winning mark. Preference, however, is for CALL ME HARRY, who kept on to finish a creditable second over 2m5f at Kelso in September and this step up in trip could see him to greater effect. Others to note include Haveyougotmymoney, Faithfulflyer and Firth Of Forth.

This rates more demanding than the assignments HAVEYOUGOTMYMONEY has faced of late, yet Paul Robson's 5-y-o is steadily going the right way and having still looked ahead of his mark for a long way at Kelso 11 days ago, he's fancied to prove the point with the drop back in trip a likely plus. Faithfulflyer and Finisk River head up the dangers, with last year's winner Rickety Gate and Curley Finger also not out of things.

The 5yo HAVEYOUGOTMYMONEY (nap) has been in fine form in the cheekpieces and can add to last month's win at Southwell.

(4) Red Shield 200/1, Maiden on the Flat and offered little sent hurdling when well held in juvenile maiden at Sedgefield 17 days ago, with the reopposing I'm Too Tired finishing second. Best watched with blinkers now reached for.
No joy in eight Flat runs and was tailed off at another big price on recent hurdling debut.
LTO Selection:

13:05 Musselburgh Conditions Hurdle (Class 2) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

UNION FLAG made a pleasing start to life over hurdles when a close-up third at Cork last month. The three-year-old was bought for 25,000 euros shortly afterwards and any improvement could see him get off the mark over timber. A blunder at the second last hindered I'm Too Tired's chance at Sedgefield, but that experience ought to stand him in good stead, while Walk The Moon heads the remainder.

UNION FLAG made an encouraging debut over hurdles when third at Cork last month and he can progress from that effort as he makes his first start for Donald McCain. He is taken to get off the mark, though I'm Too Tired also shaped well sent hurdling last time and is feared most, ahead of Ragosina.

Preference is for Donald McCain's new recruit UNION FLAG, who made a bold bid on his hurdling debut at Cork last month.

LTO Selection:

13:40 Musselburgh Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Quaresome was far from disgraced under a penalty at Newcastle when last seen and he looks a likely candidate once more, but the vote goes to SLUGGER. The son of Ocovango won going away at Kelso last month, his first start following wind surgery, and any progress could see him repeat the dose. Belle Of Annandale and Moarins Moarnin can fight it out for minor honours.

QUARESOME's last effort is best excused and he'd looked highly promising prior to that, so he's well worth another chance. Slugger looks a threat on the back of a comfortable winning start over hurdles and Belle of Annandale isn't one to write off.

Slugger commands respect but THE KALOOKI KID shaped nicely in his bumpers and he's bred to progress over hurdles.

LTO Selection:

14:15 Musselburgh Handicap Chase (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Budarri was last seen hitting the crossbar twice over different distances at Hexham in June and the veteran is worthy of consideration off the same rating as the latest of those efforts. However, preference is for MAGIC MIKE, who was victorious in this grade on his penultimate start and found life tougher at a higher level when fourth at Huntingdon last time. This looks easier, so he can bag his fourth career success. Wonderweasle warrants a market check on her handicap/chase debut.

It could be worth chancing FRIARY ROCK, who took a step back in the right direction at Huntingdon last time and is now 5 lb below his last winning mark. Heros de Moutiers and Budarri head the dangers.

The very lightly raced mare WONDERWEASLE has travelled from Wales to make her chase and handicap debut, and earns the vote.

(3) Marajman 33/1, Hit the target twice in handicap chases for the Pogson's during the summer, including at Southwell (20.4f, good to soft) when last seen in July. Remains on a good mark up 6 lb and shouldn't be far away if fully tuned-up following a break on debut for new yard.
Two wins this summer for the Pogsons and his chasing experience is an asset in this field.
LTO Selection:

14:50 Musselburgh Handicap Chase (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Marajman was last seen going in by just under four lengths at Southwell in July and he warrants plenty of respect off an 6lb higher rating. However, the one to be with is DR SHIROCCO, who was tough in the finish to score at Hexham in June and he could make a winning return to action off 4lb higher. Artic Row looks the most interesting of the rest, as he has his first crack over fences.

The three rivals IMPRESSION CHIC beat when making a winning chase debut at Fontwell have done little for the form since, but she is open to improvement in this sphere and a 4 lb rise for that success is hardly prohibitive. Kap Chidley made a positive start to the season when runner-up at Uttoxeter and he is second choice ahead of Marajman and chase debutant Artic Row.

Market support for Moo Moo's Milan would be well worth noting but preference is for Fontwell winner Impression Chic.

(4) Cracking Destiny 9/1, Returned to winning ways when taking handicap at Stratford in July and better effort there since when runner-up 19 days later. Disappointing at Kelso next time but more like it when fourth at Wetherby (15.2f, good) 3 weeks ago. May prove vulnerable to younger legs here.
Beaten four times since his Stratford win and he's held by Cedar Hill on a recent clash.

(1) Fidelio Vallis 5/4, Useful for Paul Nicholls in 2021 and made a good start for his new stable after 14 months off when runner-up at this C&D (good to soft) 9 months ago, going with his usual zest out in front. High on the shortlist making his return.
Smart front-running chaser who can go well fresh and should give a bold account.

(2) Dreams Of Home 10/3, Ended 2021/22 season on a winning note in this race and picked up where he left off by landing 17f Kelso handicap on return last December. Not hit those heights since, but clearly goes well fresh so could bounce back from a career-low mark on return.
Nothing wrong with his mark if he did return to something like his best.

(5) Restandbethankful 7/1, Found improvement on first start for new yard when winning handicap chase at Sedgefield last month and again ran well when runner-up back there 8 days later, looking in control home turn (traded 1.11 in-running). Likely to find a couple too strong in this.
Needs to dominate and that could be difficult; not ideal being 5lb out of the weights.

(3) Cedar Hill 4/1, Back on track when edged out at Kelso in May and has continued the good work since, winning small field handicaps at Perth and at former course on his next 2 starts. Chased home a useful type again at Kelso last time so he's a big player from a 2 lb lower mark.
Hat-trick bid came up shy behind the smart Tommy's Oscar; nothing wrong with that.
LTO Selection:

15:25 Musselburgh Handicap Chase (Class 2) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Fidelio Vallis is a decent sort but asking him to give 17lb to the race-fit CEDAR HILL may be a big ask. Wins in June and September for the selection were followed by a second to the classy Tommy's Oscar at Kelso, and if he can repeat that run he may prove hard to beat. Cracking Destiny has won over C&D and is another to consider.

This can go the way of FIDELIO VALLIS, who shaped as if as good as ever on his first outing since leaving Paul Nicholls when runner-up over C&D back in February and having gone well fresh in the past, he can go a place better following another absence. Cedar Hill arrives at the top of his game, so he's put forward as the main danger, with Dreams of Home taken to fill third spot.

Harry Derham had one win after a lengthy break at Ascot last weekend and FIDELIO VALLIS appeals most.

(3) Matchless 11/2, Fairly useful Flat performer who scored at Newcastle and Catterick over this sort of trip last term. Patchy on the level recently and though he remains on an interesting mark if able to match his best form in that sphere, others are preferred. Cheekpieces on first time over jumps.
Front-running second off 1lb lower in May and some decent Flat efforts since then.

(9) Scots Poet 5/1, Scored over C&D (15.6f) in February and would have gone close to following up the month after if not for a couple of rare jumping lapses. Entitled to be sharper for his recent Kelso return and he holds place claims.
C&D winner; ran well for a long way at Kelso a month ago when perhaps needing the run.

(7) Cuban Cigar 6/1, Held his form admirably well last term, deservedly getting his head back in front at Musselburgh (17.5f) and ran a blinder when runner-up at Perth on his return. Disappointing under very inexperienced rider on Flat since but he's not one to discount back over obstacles.
Winning hurdler who was a good second on heavy ground at Perth in September off 3lb lower.

C&D winner in shallower waters than last time and he goes well for Charlie Maggs.

(2) Voix Du Reve 5/1, Capitalised on a reduced mark when winning at Ayr (20.5f, good) in April. Confirmed he retains all enthusiasm when fourth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Carlisle (17.2f, soft) on return 13 days ago. Has to be taken seriously.
Veteran who retains plenty of ability and ran well for a long way on his reappearance.
LTO Selection:

16:00 Musselburgh Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

MATCHLESS was beaten less than two lengths in a better race at Kelso in May and he has been kept busy on the Flat without success since. The five-year-old will be primed for his return to the smaller obstacles and gets the vote. Theatre Legend was caught close home over further at Sedgefield a month ago, while Cuban Cigar looks best of the Lucinda Russell pair.

A tricky event, in which the veteran VOIX DU REVE is fancy to resume winning ways having quickly slipped back near the mark from which he won at Ayr late last season. Theatre Legend missed the bulk of last season but went with plenty of enthusiasm when narrowly denied at Sedgefield last time and should be in the mix again provided there's no "bounce," whilst Collingham has a fine record fresh and held his form well last term, so also merits consideration.

Competitive. SCOTS POET shaped as though his Kelso run would bring him on and he's a hold-up horse who should have this run to suit.
