5.5/1(+0%) | (3) Cabinet Maker 5.5/1, Fair gelding. Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Sixth of 9 in handicap at Catterick (7f, good to firm, 14/1) 13 days ago. Significantly back up in trip with more to do. 0-5 for current stable and doesn't look as effective on turf as on the AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

7.5/1(+63%) | (10) Samurai Sneddz 7.5/1, One win from 21 Flat runs. Good fifth of 9 in handicap (10/1) at this C&D (good) 20 days ago. Temperamental sort. Below par this campaign and that includes a classified assignment. |

7th (12) (150/1 -355%) Star Of Markinch |
150/1(-355%) | (12) Star Of Markinch 150/1, Lightly-raced maiden on Flat. 200/1, eleventh of 12 in handicap at Hamilton (11.1f, soft) 10 days ago. Has work to do. Has not offered much under either code and finished tailed off on recent handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (10/1 +9%) My Macho Man |
10/1(+9%) | (8) My Macho Man 10/1, Modest gelding. 14/1, tenth of 12 in handicap at Hamilton (11.1f, soft) 10 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Needs a couple of these to falter. Winless since his 3yo debut and has regressed under both codes in recent times. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (11/1 -267%) Iolani |
11/1(-267%) | (7) Iolani 11/1, Modest gelding. 7/1, only sixth of 9 in handicap at Carlisle (11.2f, good to soft) 12 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Enters calculations if shrugging off latest effort. Better hurdler; runs well now and again on the Flat and has less to prove than many. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (25/1 +24%) Cheese And Wine |
25/1(+24%) | (5) Cheese And Wine 25/1, Poor mare. Remains a maiden after 18 Flat runs. 50/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at this C&D (good) 20 days ago, merely closing up late. Uphill task. Yet to make the frame in 18 runs and two sixths for this yard; has to step up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (50/1 -456%) Carnival Times |
50/1(-456%) | (4) Carnival Times 50/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 150/1, fifth of 7 in maiden at Hamilton (9.2f, good to soft) 26 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Difficult ask on these terms. Tailed off in her maidens and goes straight into a classified race; much to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
BUFORD has proven stamina and looks the one to be on now he reverts to turf after finishing third in a similar race at Wolverhampton last time. Odd Venture is also considered as he produced his best effort for a while when finishing a close-up third at Beverley last month. Of the others, course winner Iolani and Spirit Of Ash are expected to make their presence felt.
BRAES OF DOUNE gained his breakthrough success at Ayr last time and with that form working out well he is fancied to follow up with his stamina also proven over this longer trip. Spirit of Ash could emerge as the chief threat, especially if not giving away too much ground at the start this time, with the in-form Odd Venture another who should be in the mix.
Two good efforts from SPIRIT OF ASH preceded her latest start when she was favourite but missed the kick. She's given another chance.

1st (1) (1.1/1 +60%) Capital Guarantee |
1.1/1(+60%) | (1) Capital Guarantee 1.1/1, Lightly-raced gelding. 11/2, thirteenth of 15 in maiden at Cork (6f, soft) 81 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Kieran Cotter and can't be ruled out if it sparks a resurgence. Some ability in Ireland; gelded ahead of stable debut and they've found a weak race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (1.75/1 -75%) Elusive Empire |
1.75/1(-75%) | (2) Elusive Empire 1.75/1, Thrice-raced gelding. 12/1, best effort when second of 9 in minor event at Salisbury (7f, soft) 10 days ago, keeping on well. Likely to improve again. Big shout. Looks the most likely answer to this on the strength of his second at Salisbury. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/1 +17%) Initio |
5/1(+17%) | (3) Initio 5/1, Highland Reel gelding. Half-brother to 5f winner Joshua R. Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. Noteworthy newcomer, especially if market vibes are positive. Fifth foal; half-brother to 5f winner Joshua R (RPR 61); dam 6f AW 2yo winner (82). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (16/1 -45%) Sprezzatura |
16/1(-45%) | (5) Sprezzatura 16/1, Fair gelding. Bit below form fourth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 10/3). Off 145 days. Remains a maiden after 12 runs. Exposed maiden who isn't improving and should be vulnerable at these weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (22/1 -144%) Chico Dulce |
22/1(-144%) | (4) Chico Dulce 22/1, 50/1, fifth of 8 in minor event at Newcastle (7.1f) on debut 25 days ago. Needs to build on it. Showed good speed before weakening into a near 5l fifth at Newcastle (7f AW). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ELUSIVE EMPIRE sets the standard on the official ratings and has an outstanding chance here. Having been allotted a rating of 77 after going close in a novice at Salisbury 10 days ago, it is noteworthy that he is kept to maiden company and this looks a good piece of placement by Archie Watson. Initio won't need to be out of the ordinary to have an impact on his racecourse bow, while Capital Guarantee is also noted on debut for David O'Meara.
ELUSIVE EMPIRE took a big step forward when runner-up at Salisbury last time and looks the way to go here with further progress on the cards from Archie Watson's son of Territories. Ex-Irish Capital Guarantee has the form to play a big part too if hitting the ground running for his new yard. Newcomer Initio is another to consider if the market speaks in his favour.
The most likely winner is ELUSIVE EMPIRE who finished within 2l of a promising winner at Salisbury.

1st (5) (4.5/1 +18%) Yaaser |
4.5/1(+18%) | (5) Yaaser 4.5/1, C&D winner. Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. Respectable third of 11 in handicap at this course (1m, good to firm) 22 days ago, running on. On a handy mark and just missed out in a driving finish over 1m here last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (2.25/1 -13%) Ascot Adventure |
2.25/1(-13%) | (1) Ascot Adventure 2.25/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022 but his latest third of 16 in a 6f York Class 4 handicap suggests he might be ready to strike for his new yard. Gets the vote in this slightly lower grade. Third of 16 in a Class 4 at York; that was over 6f and last win was over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (4/1 +53%) Judgment Call |
4/1(+53%) | (2) Judgment Call 4/1, Latest win at Ayr in May. Eighth of 11 in handicap at Ayr (7f, good to soft, 7/2) 15 days ago. Engaged 5.25 Ayr Monday. Running well before finding the ground too soft latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (6.5/1 -44%) Gone |
6.5/1(-44%) | (6) Gone 6.5/1, Four wins in a very productive year. Raced close to a strong pace and shaped as if still in form when fourth of 9 at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm) 28 days ago. Respected. A good season has come at a cost ratings-wise but looks sure to give her running. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (14/1 -17%) Gunnerside |
14/1(-17%) | (7) Gunnerside 14/1, C&D winner in May but the handicapper has been in charge since. C&D win in May but not easy to predict and has gone back into reverse since then. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (5.5/1 -10%) Lilikoi |
5.5/1(-10%) | (4) Lilikoi 5.5/1, Course winner. 15/2, career best when winning 14-runner handicap at Thirsk (7f, good to firm) 20 days ago, driven out. That was a competitive race so a 3 lb nudge looks fair. Bold show likely. Consistency rewarded at Thirsk (7f) where she was delivered nicely off a solid gallop. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RR| (3) (9/1 +18%) Vindobala |
9/1(+18%) | (3) Vindobala 9/1, Has gained most of his wins on AW but did strike on turf earlier in his career. 7/2, respectable third of 7 in handicap at Newcastle (1m) 25 days ago, running on after meeting trouble. Third on AW last time in a race that didn't pan out too favourably; not as good on grass. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ASCOT ADVENTURE has dropped to a competitive mark and, having shown steady improvement since joining his current yard, he is an appealing option. He appeared to find things happening a stride too quickly near the finish in a deeper race over 6f at York 10 days ago and may find this trip/level is more to his liking. Yaaser is an old rival of the selection and commands respect off a handy mark, while Thirsk winner Lilikoi is also noted.
This is the first time ASCOT ADVENTURE has ever been eligible for a Class 5 handicap and he's selected to take advantage of the drop in grade. Last-time-out Thirsk scorer Lilikoi is feared most ahead of Gone, who has been freshened up since her busy spell in June.
Gone could be all the better for a break but ASCOT ADVENTURE (nap) is a winner waiting to happen off his reduced mark.

1st (1) (1.38/1 +31%) Indication Spirit |
1.38/1(+31%) | (1) Indication Spirit 1.38/1, Confirmed debut promise when winning 7-runner C&D maiden (good) 3 weeks ago, kept up to work. Makes handicap debut. More to come and leading claims. C&D winner on his second start and this initial mark should be manageable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (6/1 -71%) Travel Candy |
6/1(-71%) | (3) Travel Candy 6/1, Two wins from 5 runs this year. 4/1, career best when winning 14-runner nursery at Catterick (5f, good to firm) 13 days ago, driven out. That form was boosted by the second winning last week and she still looks feasibly treated up 5 lb. Catterick winner and effectively 2lb higher with Harry Russell claiming 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (10/1 +70%) Be Here Now |
10/1(+70%) | (7) Be Here Now 10/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Last of 9 in maiden (16/1) at Carlisle (5f, good to soft) 27 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Others are more obvious. Nurseries were always going to be more like it and there could be some improvement lurking. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (8.5/1 +47%) Lochaber |
8.5/1(+47%) | (5) Lochaber 8.5/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 13/2 and hooded first time, bit below form 5 lengths fifth of 14 to Travel Candy in nursery at Catterick (5f, good to firm) 13 days ago, never nearer. Ended up with too much to do when behind a couple of these at Catterick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (12/1 -100%) Moyola |
12/1(-100%) | (6) Moyola 12/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 33/1, sixth of 8 in maiden at Hamilton (5f, good to firm) 55 days ago. Tongue strap on first time. Needs to find improvement. Interesting on his middle qualifying run and now goes in a tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (8.5/1 -70%) Torvar |
8.5/1(-70%) | (2) Torvar 8.5/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 25/1, fifth of 14 in novice at Redcar (5f, good) 57 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Open to improvement. Improved fifth in his final novice and that's something to build on now into nurseries. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (5.5/1 +8%) Tees Douge |
5.5/1(+8%) | (4) Tees Douge 5.5/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 10/3, very good ½-length third of 14 to Travel Candy in nursery at Catterick (5f, good to firm) 13 days ago, running on. Can make presence felt. Favourite for Travel Candy's nursery at Catterick and wasn't helped by a sluggish start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (22/1 +0%) Mehigburn |
22/1(+0%) | (8) Mehigburn 22/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 50/1, sixth of 8 in novice at Chester (5f, heavy) 10 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Best effort to date was his fifth on the AW (5f) and only seven ran that day. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (40/1 +20%) Riverview Law |
40/1(+20%) | (9) Riverview Law 40/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Last of 12 in maiden (66/1) at Catterick (5f, good to firm) 13 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Something to find on form. Hasn't progressed from a decent debut but that's not done her mark any harm. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Travel Candy (winner) had Tees Douge (third) behind him at Catterick earlier this month, but a 2lb swing in the weights could see the latter reverse that form. Tongue-tied ahead of his nursery debut, it would be no surprise to see Moyola take a step forward, while Torvar is also noted. However, preference is for INDICATION SPIRIT. He was able to build on a promising debut effort when winning over C&D 20 days ago, and there should be more to come.
This is a competitive nursery. INDICATION SPIRIT should have more to come on the back of her C&D maiden success and gets the nod. The horse who split Travel Candy and Tees Douge when they were first and third in a Catterick nursery earlier in the month won comfortably at Bath last week so that form looks solid and they should go well again. Torvar looks capable of better and is another to consider.
If breaking better than at Catterick then TEES DOUGE might well reverse placings with Travel Candy.

8/1(+71%) | (6) Texas Man 8/1, 66/1, fourteenth of 18 in handicap at York (5f, good) 11 days ago. Others make more appeal. Three 5f handicaps on the board but beaten in the region of 7l in two runs for this yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (8.5/1 -89%) Castan |
8.5/1(-89%) | (5) Castan 8.5/1, C&D winner. Respectable third of 8 in handicap (11/2) at Redcar (5f, good) 57 days ago. Dropped 1 lb since and likely to give his running. Dual nursery winner who showed he's trained on when third at Redcar. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (12/1 +52%) Sixcor |
12/1(+52%) | (10) Sixcor 12/1, Tenth of 11 in handicap (8/1) at Carlisle (5f, good) 17 days ago. Hard to rely on but on a fair mark if he gives his running. Reliable enough but only 3-38 and finds winning hard at the best of times. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (5/1 -25%) Dandy Dinmont |
5/1(-25%) | (1) Dandy Dinmont 5/1, 14/1, shaped as if still in form eighth of 18 in handicap at York (5f, good) 11 days ago. Can get involved if things drop right. Big player back in a Class 5, as when just missing out on the AW two runs back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (7.5/1 +12%) Aconcagua Mountain |
7.5/1(+12%) | (9) Aconcagua Mountain 7.5/1, Three-time winner last year who got back on track when fourth of 11 in handicap over C&D a month ago. Has edged back to a handy mark, so one to consider. Close up in two of this season's three starts and unlikely to be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (3.2/1 +29%) Mereside Angel |
3.2/1(+29%) | (2) Mereside Angel 3.2/1, Latest win at Ayr in June. 11/1, below form eleventh of 18 in handicap at York (5f, good) 11 days ago. Likely to be back on his game, so not one to take lightly. Struggled at York (just behind Dandy Dinmont) but this easier than that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (20/1 -100%) Zuffolo |
20/1(-100%) | (4) Zuffolo 20/1, Latest win at Redcar in May. 16/1, last of 7 in handicap at Redcar (5f, good to firm) 31 days ago. Not dismissed. Dual winner but the wheels have come off the last twice, beating just one rival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (10/1 +50%) Hard Nut |
10/1(+50%) | (8) Hard Nut 10/1, 20/1, fourth of 6 in handicap at this C&D (good to firm) 22 days ago. Something to find on recent form. Should be well handicapped but it's been an ordinary start to this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (18/1 -64%) Annie Maher |
18/1(-64%) | (7) Annie Maher 18/1, 11/4, third of 4 in handicap at Newmarket (5f, good to firm) 32 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Michael Bell. Needs to improve but not fully exposed. Ability for Michael Bell but 0-8 and never progressed; bought for 5,000gns. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (5.5/1 -57%) Loch Carron |
5.5/1(-57%) | (3) Loch Carron 5.5/1, Winner at Ayr in May. Respectable sixth of 10 in handicap at Chelmsford City (6f, 14/1) 16 days ago. Drop back in trip should suit and she may yet have a bigger effort in her. Lightly-raced maiden winner; got hassled up front on handicap debut over 6f.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LOCH CARRON travelled strongly into contention at Chelmsford over 6f, before weakening late on. The fact she was pitched into Listed company the start prior to that suggests she is held in some regard, so this drop in trip could see her to greater effect. Castan has been largely consistent in recent starts and must go on the shortlist. Others to note include Zuffolo and Mereside Angel.
LOCH CARRON is unexposed compared to most and shaped as if a drop back to this trip would suit when sixth at Chelmsford last time, so she gets the marginal vote ahead of Dandy Dinmont, who was better than the result in a stronger contest at York 11 days ago. Aconcagua Mountain is also of interest.
An open sprint may go to DANDY DINMONT who is accustomed to competing in better races than this.

1st (4) (0.83/1 +34%) Barrolo |
0.83/1(+34%) | (4) Barrolo 0.83/1, 2 wins from 3 runs this year. Creditable second of 7 in handicap (4/9) at Catterick (7f, good to firm) 13 days ago, conceding first run. Arrives on the up and should get back to winning ways upped in trip. Hat-trick bid came up just short; inexperienced jockey takes over but obvious claims. |

2nd (6) (2.75/1 +0%) Cuban Rock |
2.75/1(+0%) | (6) Cuban Rock 2.75/1, Career best when winning 5-runner handicap (7/1) at this course (8f, good to firm) 22 days ago, having run of race. Should go well again. Off the mark here recently over 1m and a 4lb rise is fine having threatened off higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/1 -57%) Indication Rocket |
11/1(-57%) | (2) Indication Rocket 11/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time in this code, pulled up in juvenile hurdle at Hexham (16.2f, good, 5/1) on NH debut 52 days ago. In good form on the Flat in May, so not dismissed. Recent AW winner but has a bit to prove on turf and has inexperienced rider booked. |

6.5/1(-8%) | (5) Ubettabequick 6.5/1, Creditable fifth of 10 in handicap at Doncaster (8f, good to firm, 18/1) 12 days ago. Not discounted. Placed in two of her four handicaps without really threatening a breakthrough success. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (11/1 -10%) Keeponbelieving |
11/1(-10%) | (3) Keeponbelieving 11/1, 11/2, seventh of 8 in handicap at Beverley (9.9f, good to soft) 17 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Others make more appeal. Hasn't built on a decent handicap debut and now goes in cheekpieces. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
BARROLO came up just short as he went in search for the hat-trick at Catterick last time but, returned to further, this looks an ideal opportunity for the Havana Grey gelding to regain the winning thread. Cuban Rock is feared most raised 4lb for his recent course success, while first-time cheekpieces could elicit some improvement from the Liam Bailey-trained Keeponbelieving.
BARROLO is going the right way and promises to be suited by the longer trip, so he's preferred to Cuban Rock, who opened his account at this course last time. Indication Rocks is another one to consider returning to the Flat.
Jim Goldie's CUBAN ROCK beat an in-form rival here last time and is taken to follow up at the expense of Barrolo.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
