1st (1) (10/11 +52%) Liari |
10/11(+52%) | (1) Liari 10/11, Fairly useful Flat winner in France and 2-2 in juvenile hurdles for new connections. The second success came at listed level at Aintree in November and he might be up to defying a penalty with further progress likely. 2-2 over hurdles, latterly in Aintree Listed event; different ground but very promising. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/2 +21%) Roaring Legend |
11/2(+21%) | (7) Roaring Legend 11/2, Fairly useful on Flat for James Ferguson and made an encouraging start to his hurdle career when second of 6 to a smart prospect from the Paul Nicholls yard at Kempton (2m, good to soft) last month. Can be expected to improve. Fairly useful on Flat; encouraging second on hurdle debut at Kempton (9-1) three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/1 -25%) Balboa |
10/1(-25%) | (4) Balboa 10/1, Won 7-runner Chepstow juvenile in October. Improved when 3 lengths second to to the reopposing An Bradan Feasa at Cheltenham 2 months later and shaped as if still in good form when remote second in Finale back at Chepstow over Christmas (final start for Anthony Charlton). Has left Tony Charlton; player on his best form but others are a bit more persuasive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (16/5 -42%) An Bradan Feasa |
16/5(-42%) | (2) An Bradan Feasa 16/5, Made a successful start over hurdles in a Ballinrobe maiden (for Joseph O'Brien) and has built on that for new yard, chasing home Burdett Road in a Cheltenham Grade 2 before going one better back there 4 weeks later. Looks sure to go well again. 2-3 as a hurdler, the defeat when second in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham; big player on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (16/1 +20%) Churchwarden |
16/1(+20%) | (5) Churchwarden 16/1, Showed fair form on second of 2 starts in maidens on Flat for Eddie & Patrick Harty. Positive start to his hurdle career for new trainer John McConnell when second over C&D on New Year's Day but will need to leave that bare form well behind to figure prominently here. Very lightly raced and made a promising hurdle debut behind Rory The Cat over C&D (soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (28/1 -250%) Rory The Cat |
28/1(-250%) | (8) Rory The Cat 28/1, Won pair of handicaps on the level this summer. Remote sixth to Union Flag on his C&D hurdle debut in November but different proposition when scoring twice here since. Another chunk of improvement required if he's to extend the winning sequence to 3. Improving with two C&D wins (beat two of these latest) but this will demand better still. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (100/1 -300%) Thats Jet |
100/1(-300%) | (9) Thats Jet 100/1, Modest maiden on the Flat who has already surpassed that form over hurdles, running to a fair level when second of 13 at Killarney (17f, soft) in August (final start for Ross O'Sullivan). Not in the same form when fifth of 11 to Eagle Prince at Sedgefield on yard debut in October. Off since. Ex-Irish; disappointing favourite, making most, in October on sole start for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (40/1 -100%) Union Flag |
40/1(-100%) | (3) Union Flag 40/1, Fair maiden on the Flat who built on his hurdling debut promise for Noel Meade when ready winner of 9-runner C&D juvenile in November. Hasn't built on that in 2 his outings since and improvement needed to get heavily involved at this level. Below form back here (behind two of these) on latest start; carries his head awkwardly. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
2-2 over hurdles so far, and already a winner at this level, the progressive LIARI is hard to oppose in his bid to complete a three-timer. The Paul Nicholls-trained French import is a possible for the Triumph Hurdle next month and another bold bid here can only enhance his claims. An Bradan Feasa had three lengths to spare over runner-up Balboa when he won at Cheltenham in December and poses a big threat to the selection. Dual C&D winner Rory The Cat is the pick of the rest.
LIARI gets the nod to remain unbeaten over hurdles and provide Paul Nicholls with a fourth win in this listed race since 2016, but there are a few possible threats, headed by An Bradan Feasa, Roaring Legend and Balboa.
Nicholls-trainer LIARI won a Listed event on heavy going but surely does not need the ground that testing. He looks very promising.

1st (2) (5/4 +38%) Beau Balko |
5/4(+38%) | (2) Beau Balko 5/4, Won twice over hurdles for current yard last season and has been going the right way in his 3 starts over fences so far, not helped by a bad mid-race mistake when second of 4 in novice handicap at Hereford last time. Remains with potential and can open his chase account. Did well to finish second at Hereford last time, having made a bad jumping error. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/1 -64%) Mint Gold |
9/1(-64%) | (6) Mint Gold 9/1, Made light of a 30-month absence when landing 4-runner handicap chase at this C&D in November. Not in the same form when falling at the last at Newcastle (20.1f) next time, but had still been close up 4 out before weakening. Merits consideration back down in trip. C&D winner in November, after mammoth layoff, and didn't run badly on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (13/2 +7%) Ganapathi |
13/2(+7%) | (5) Ganapathi 13/2, Useful hurdles/chase winner for Willie Mullins. Down the field on final 3 starts for Patrick Neville but has offered more on his last 2 outings for his current yard, third of 5 in handicap chase at Kelso in December. Can give his running again. Has arrested his decline on last two outings but is patently not the force of old. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (8/1 -100%) Cedar Hill |
8/1(-100%) | (3) Cedar Hill 8/1, Landed small field handicaps at Perth/Kelso during the summer and ran well when second at latter-named venue in October. Bled when below form next time, but was better than he could show when falling here on New Year's Day. Interesting with his recent run behind him. Needs to get back in the groove but current mark is workable and he has a good strike-rate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (4/1 +67%) Dreams Of Home |
4/1(+67%) | (4) Dreams Of Home 4/1, Made a winning return at Kelso last season and took a step back in the right direction when third at this C&D on his first start of the current campaign. However, hasn't gone on from that in 2 starts since, so others are more persuasive at present. Ran quite well over C&D on seasonal debut but two disappointing efforts have followed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (10/1 -82%) Bollingerandkrug |
10/1(-82%) | (1) Bollingerandkrug 10/1, Has shown improved form switched to front-running tactics, making it four wins at Kelso in 5 starts when successful there in November. However, ran no sort of race at Newbury last time, albeit unable to lead. Bounce back called for having another outing away from Kelso. Won four times at Kelso last year but is away from his happy hunting ground today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (14/1 -56%) Overcourt |
14/1(-56%) | (7) Overcourt 14/1, Dual hurdles winner for Sandy Thomson who made the frame on his first 5 starts over fences, off 22 months ahead of joining his current yard this season. However, has run below form on his last 2 outings so he needs to get back on track returned to this shorter trip. Second twice for new stable in the autumn but looked out of sorts on final two appearances. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
BOLLINGERANDKRUG was handed a stiff task in a deeper race at Newbury on his most recent start but, now dropped down a grade, he can have a bigger impact. Admittedly, the gelding is a Kelso specialist, having won twice over hurdles and four times over fences at that venue. However, he is also a tough nut to crack on a going day and is taken to outmanoeuvre Beau Balko, who is respected but was let down by his jumping latest. Cedar Hill completes the shortlist.
A fairly useful winner over hurdles, BEAU BALKO hasn't quite matched that level in 3 starts over fences so far, but he still remains capable of better as a chaser having made a bad mid-race mistake (jumped fine otherwise) at Hereford last time. He is taken to go one better, with Cedar Hill feared most with his recent run behind him. Mint Gold is also considered.
The most appealing option is BEAU BALKO, who recovered from a calamitous mid-race jumping error to finish second on his latest outing.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st (3) (11/2 +31%) Panjari |
11/2(+31%) | (3) Panjari 11/2, Useful on Flat in Germany and has been very quick in getting the hang of hurdling, winning extended 2m Taunton novice and running well from a good prominent position in Cheltenham handicap in December. Let down by jumping when the headgear was left off here last time so can get back on track. German Flat form suggests he has come up a bit short as hurdler, particularly last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/4 +83%) Bertie's Ballet |
11/4(+83%) | (1) Bertie's Ballet 11/4, Useful dual bumper winner who, having been given a considerate introduction to hurdling after 7 months off, went one better with a fair bit more in hand than the bare margin of victory suggests at Haydock (15.6f, heavy) just over 5 weeks ago. Should have more to offer. Won two bumpers and Haydock novice hurdle; this is a much harder task but he's promising. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (13/2 -189%) Titanium Moon |
13/2(-189%) | (6) Titanium Moon 13/2, Failed to win in 4 outings on the Flat but on a roll over hurdles, not hard pressed to make it 4 novice wins in a row (all by wide margins) at Stratford (16.3f, good to soft) 6 months ago. Open to further improvement, he holds leading claims again if ready to roll. Mopped up in summer novice races, wide-margin wins which make her a top contender on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (18/1 -13%) Whistle Stop Tour |
18/1(-13%) | (5) Whistle Stop Tour 18/1, Winning Irish pointer who also made a successful start over hurdles in a Hexham novice (16.2f) in October. Has failed to kick on as anticipated on both subsequent starts however, well hell on handicap debut at Haydock (18.9f, heavy) just over 6 weeks ago. Others preferred. Soundly beaten on heavy ground at Haydock last time; needs to resume progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (4/1 +0%) Recoup |
4/1(+0%) | (4) Recoup 4/1, Fairly useful Flat winner in France. Joined new yard for 55,000 gns and made the perfect start to hurdling career after 5 months in 16-runner novice at Ludlow (15.8f, soft) in October, edging ahead final 50 yds. Open to improvement, so warrants plenty of respect for a top yard. Fairly useful Flat form in France; won hurdling debut at Ludlow (2m, good to soft) October. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (2/1 +27%) Hypotenus |
2/1(+27%) | (2) Hypotenus 2/1, Wide-margin winner on first start for this yard in maiden hurdle at Gowran in September but hasn't built on that, not really suited by the way the race developed when 12½ lengths third of 6 to Risk Belle in Grade 3 at Fairyhouse a couple of months ago. This easier but must jump better. His jumping is still not that great but he's an each-way player on form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
TITANIUM MOON absolutely breezed through a series of challenges to register four wins on the bounce last year. Having gone well fresh in the past, the Donald McCain-trained mare still has untapped potential and, given she is favoured by the weights, could be hard to beat if picking up where she left off last summer. Irish raider Hypotenus has been highly tried since winning a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park last September but cannot be ruled out now dropped in class. Panjari completes the shortlist.
Cases can be made for most, but preference is for RECOUP, who pulled well clear with a subsequent winner on his yard/hurdling debut at Ludlow back in October and Fergal O'Brien's 5-y-o should have plenty more to offer in this sphere. Titanium Moon wasn't hard pressed to make it 4 novice wins in a row when last seen at Stratford 6 months ago, so she's put forward as the main danger, ahead of Hypotenus, who is clearly talented but needs to learn to jump better.
Ex-French Flat winner RECOUP is taken to follow up his Ludlow win. Titanium Moon and Hypotenus are feared most.

1st (15) (16/1 -33%) Curley Finger |
16/1(-33%) | (15) Curley Finger 16/1, C&D scorer who resumed winning ways at Newcastle (23.7f, heavy) 29 days ago, always holding on. One to consider desite being 2 lb out of the handicap. Won from the front over C&D last March and Newcastle latest; up 6lb (2lb out of handicap). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/1 +33%) Springwell Bay |
4/1(+33%) | (1) Springwell Bay 4/1, Scored at Cheltenham in November and not disgraced in first-time tongue strap when fourth of 10 in handicap hurdle there (24f, soft) 34 days ago. Considered. Not quite so good when upped to 3m (bred to stay well) on heavy ground on New Year's Day. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (28/1 -75%) Hector Javilex |
28/1(-75%) | (6) Hector Javilex 28/1, Made mistakes when only fourth of 5 in handicap chase at Newbury (23.4f, soft) on debut over fences 46 days ago. Not discounted switched back to hurdles. Did well last term until poor in Pertemps Final; chase debut in December wasn't a disgrace. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (18/1 +45%) Anna Bunina |
18/1(+45%) | (3) Anna Bunina 18/1, It's now 11 runs since last win in 2022 and he came in only eleventh of 19 in handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, soft) 63 days ago. Significantly up in trip with work to do. Well beaten on last three starts and she has never raced beyond an extended 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (14) (5/1 +50%) Imaginary Dragon |
5/1(+50%) | (14) Imaginary Dragon 5/1, Improved again to get off the mark in 8-runner handicap hurdle at Kelso (22.7f, heavy) 37 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up despite taking a 7 b rise. Lightly raced; hammered his seven rivals when upped to 3m at Kelso (soft) latest; 7lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (50/1 -100%) Dare To Shout |
50/1(-100%) | (11) Dare To Shout 50/1, Last of 5 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (16.9f, soft) 52 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Tongue strap on 1st time. Can give a good account if shrugging off latest effort. Won at Hexham (2m4f) on reappearance, before two heavy defeats; new trip and tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (13) (6/1 -20%) Almuhit |
6/1(-20%) | (13) Almuhit 6/1, 9/2, first run since leaving Adrian Joyce when below form twelfth of 21 in handicap hurdle at Leopardstown (20f, heavy) 38 days ago. Tongue strap/cheekpieces on with more required. Not straightforward but a Flat stayer who is unexposed with stamina tests over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (22/1 -120%) Peking Rose |
22/1(-120%) | (7) Peking Rose 22/1, Posted a career best when winning 6-runner handicap hurdle (3/1) at Doncaster (19.4f, good) 64 days ago. Up in trip and well in the mix. Back from 11 months off with a narrow win; into unknown territory beyond an extended 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (14/1 -40%) Noble Birth |
14/1(-40%) | (12) Noble Birth 14/1, Dual winner over hurdles for Gordon Elliott last year. Cheekpieces on for 1st time when solid fourth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Cheltenham (24f, heavy) 78 days ago, going with enthusiasm. Shortlisted. Peak efforts on good or good to soft; place chance judged on last two performances. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (22/1 -120%) Chinx Of Light |
22/1(-120%) | (5) Chinx Of Light 22/1, 33/1, hinted at a revival when seventh of 19 in handicap hurdle at Naas (19.9f, soft) 84 days ago, not knocked about. Can take a step forward. 13 months off before well held over 2m4f this autumn, but he's now back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (40/1 -60%) Building Bridges |
40/1(-60%) | (8) Building Bridges 40/1, A dual winner this season and not disgraced when ninth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Cheltenham (19.9f, good to soft) 100 days ago. Possibilities. Won at Down Royal (2m4f) and Galway (2m6f) last summer; lesser show at Cheltenham October. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (9/1 +55%) Silent Revolution |
9/1(+55%) | (9) Silent Revolution 9/1, Had wind op/tongue strap on for 1st time when respectabe third of 6 in handicap hurdle at Newbury (20.5f, soft) 36 days ago, finding little. No surprise to see him bounce back. Questions to answer, including over new trip, but he has edged down the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (4) (14/1 +0%) Wakool |
14/1(+0%) | (4) Wakool 14/1, C&D winner who posted a solid second of 4 in handicap hurdle (5/2) at Ayr (24.3f, heavy) 33 days ago. Can go well again. Good record at this track, including second and fourth in the last two renewals of this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (4/1 +0%) Absolute Notions |
4/1(+0%) | (2) Absolute Notions 4/1, Irish raider who easily landed 3-runner conditions hurdle at Fairyhouse (20.5f, heavy) 89 days ago. Player now going into handicaps with few miles on the clock. Staying-on second in Grade 1 novice at Leopardstown (2m6f, yielding) on this day last year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Grade 1 runner-up ABSOLUTE NOTIONS' current mark of 143 may underestimate his true ability and he could have too much class on this first foray into handicap company. Smart Flat performer Almuhit catches the eye at the foot of the weights and sustained market support for Emmet Mullins' charge now upped in distance would bring the five-year-old into calculations. Springwell Bay and last-time-out winners Curley Finger and Imaginary Dragon are worthy of consideration too.
A case can be made for plenty of these but Gordon Elliott's ABSOLUTE NOTIONS appeals as a likely improver now going into handicaps so is fancied to follow up his Fairyhouse success after a break. Fellow Irish challenger Carnfunnock figures on a handy-looking mark so must enter calculations, while a solid case can also be made for Doncaster-victor Peking Rose and C&D winner Wakool.
Irish challengers Absolute Notions and ALMUHIT catch the eye in a major way. Imaginary Dragon is also shortlisted.

1st (4) (11/2 +31%) Corrigeen Rock |
11/2(+31%) | (4) Corrigeen Rock 11/2, Took another step forward when making winning return from 6 months off at Kempton (18f) in October and creditable effort when fourth in stronger company at Ascot (16.7f) since. Suited by step up in trip when second (clear of rest) over C&D 5 weeks ago and he's a player up only 1 lb. Ran on well into a good second of nine over C&D last time; more to offer at the trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (10/3 +5%) Thunder Rock |
10/3(+5%) | (2) Thunder Rock 10/3, Four-time hurdle winner who has developed into a smart chaser, readily taking a small-field Carlisle listed event on reappearance. Failed to cope with the sterner examination of a top-level handicap at Cheltenham next time but back down in class here with headgear applied. Favourite in Cheltenham Grade 3 handicap but soon struggled with jumping; cheekpieces now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (7/2 -5%) Outlaw Peter |
7/2(-5%) | (7) Outlaw Peter 7/2, Enjoyed a productive novice hurdle season, winning 3 times. Won a match race on his chase debut/reappearance at Newton Abbot in September and much improved when second at Kempton on Boxing Day. Surely has more to offer as a chaser. Second at Kempton (2m4f, good) on Boxing Day was his best show over fences; back up 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (8/1 +0%) Tommy's Oscar |
8/1(+0%) | (1) Tommy's Oscar 8/1, Smart hurdler and even better over fences, winning Grade 2 at Doncaster last term. Better than ever when making a winning return at Kelso before shaping as if still in good form in a muddling Old Roan. Disappointed back over hurdles since but expected to bounce back. Has a bit more to prove judged on his few appearances under rules over this sort of trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (3/1 +14%) Petit Tonnerre |
3/1(+14%) | (5) Petit Tonnerre 3/1, Useful hurdler who has looked a work in progress over fences this winter, again unconvincing with his jumping back in a handicap at Cheltenham 5 weeks ago. Back up in trip now but opposable up against seasoned campaigners. Lots of useful form in defeat; first season chasing but he has to be in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (17/2 -42%) Frero Banbou |
17/2(-42%) | (6) Frero Banbou 17/2, Winless for over 2 years but hard to knock his consistency this term, again jumping/travelling fluently when second in a better race than this at Cheltenham (20.6f) on New Year's Day. Lost all chance with a mid-race blunder at Lingfield 2 weeks ago and worth another chance. Running with great credit this season until an early mistake cost him two weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (33/1 -32%) A Wave Of The Sea |
33/1(-32%) | (3) A Wave Of The Sea 33/1, Useful handicap chaser for Joseph Patrick O'Brien, in frame in Galway Plate and Munster National this season. However, has failed to complete both starts for this yard so has questions to answer. Third run for new yard; on a 16-race losing sequence but a case can be made. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (28/1 -75%) Arthur's Quay |
28/1(-75%) | (8) Arthur's Quay 28/1, Won 3 on the bounce last winter and back on the scoresheet with a decisive display at Cartmel (21.2f) in July. Followed up at Caterick 5 months later but that looked a thin handicap by 0-130 standards so has work to do up 3 lb in better race. Up another 4lb and in class but he's going great guns and is on a hat-trick. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
TOMMY'S OSCAR was far from disgraced when fourth in the Old Roan at Aintree in late October. The son of Oscar is unexposed over this extended 2m4f trip and December's spin over hurdles at Doncaster should have put him spot on for this. Thunder Rock boasted a progressive profile prior to his latest flop at Cheltenham and the eight-year-old is feared most, ahead of an in-form Outlaw Peter.
The classy TOMMY'S OSCAR often keep better company than this and has looked better than ever over fences this season, so can defy top weight. Frero Banbou lost all chance with a bad blunder at Lingfield 2 weeks ago and remains of interest, while Corrigeen Rock surely has more to offer over this trip after his good second over C&D on New Year's Day.
In a competitive race preference is for CORRIGEEN ROCK who may be able to step up on his C&D second last time. Outlaw Peter is next.

1st (3) (7/2 +13%) Welsh Charger |
7/2(+13%) | (3) Welsh Charger 7/2, Fairly useful hurdler who enhanced good strike (3-6) when landing 9-runner Market Rasen handicap (18.6f) 6 weeks ago. Handicapper applies a little more pressure but that opened up more options trip-wise and he's one to consider. Won at Market Rasen (extended 2m2f) in his second handicap; new trip but he has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (4/1 +33%) Lihyan |
4/1(+33%) | (7) Lihyan 4/1, Gained first success for present yard over C&D in December and possible he'd of won had he jumped better when ¾-length second of 8 to Duyfken back here 4 weeks ago. Mark has crept up but possibilities in present groove. Revival on last two outings for C&D win and C&D second to Duyfken; back up another 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (6/1 -9%) Duyfken |
6/1(-9%) | (6) Duyfken 6/1, Signed off last term with a win at Perth and built on pair of placed efforts this term when resuming winning ways over C&D 4 weeks ago, making all and finding extra to fend off Lihyan by ¾ length. Still unexposed at this sort of trip so not discounted from 6 lb higher mark. Progressive, upped from 2m when making all to see off Lihyan in eight-runner C&D handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (12/1 +14%) Lone Star |
12/1(+14%) | (5) Lone Star 12/1, Had a productive time in 2022/23, scoring 5 times (twice over C&D). Best effort of present campaign when third back here in November and testing ground probably caught her out at Aintree when last seen in December. Likely type to bounce back. Mopped up in mares' handicaps last term, including over C&D, but this season is a worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (7/1 +50%) Faithfulflyer |
7/1(+50%) | (12) Faithfulflyer 7/1, Had a productive first season for Sandy Thomson, scoring twice, and good third of 7 on return at Kelso in October. Lesser efforts here/Newcastle followed towards the end of last year but eased in weights and player from this mark on pick of his form if bouncing back. Respectable reappearance before two backward steps; well treated if back to his best. |

6th (13) (3/1 +40%) Impact Du Bonheur |
3/1(+40%) | (13) Impact Du Bonheur 3/1, Bought for €90,000 after winning the third of 3 bumper starts in France. Some promise over hurdles for new yard and he looked unsuited by the way the race developed when last of 7 on handicap debut at Sandown in December. Not one to write off for top yard with cheekpieces now enlisted. French bumper winner; well beaten all three British races, last of seven on handicap debut. |

7th (11) (50/1 -100%) Whelans Bridge |
50/1(-100%) | (11) Whelans Bridge 50/1, Showed ability in points and modest form over hurdles in 2022. Easy to back and dropped away quickly on belated return/handicap debut at Ayr (20.5f, soft) in December and tongue tie now reached for having undergone wind surgery. Pulled up on handicap debut (33-1) after 435 days off; had wind surgery soon afterwards. |

8th (1) (22/1 -38%) Voix Du Reve |
22/1(-38%) | (1) Voix Du Reve 22/1, Capitalised on a reduced mark when winning at Ayr in April and confirmed he retains plenty of zest on his first 2 starts this term, a shuddering error as he made his move ending his chance here in November. Seemingly not 100% at Aintree a month later but the assessor has given him a chance. 12yo who is 5lb lower than for Ayr win (2m4f, good) last Apri; excuses on last two runs. |

9th (14) (40/1 -21%) Diamond State |
40/1(-21%) | (14) Diamond State 40/1, Goes well here and he's on an attractive mark but there are no real positives to take from what he's shown in 2 starts following a wind op. Steps back up in trip now. All his three wins have been at this track but he currently has questions to answer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (50/1 -150%) Cardamon Hill |
50/1(-150%) | (4) Cardamon Hill 50/1, Maiden hurdle winner in Ireland for Gordon Elliott. Fair efforts first 2 starts in handicap chases for present yard but subsequent efforts in that sphere have been underwhelming. Returns to timber now with a bit to prove. Major backward steps last two starts; back hurdling, for the first time since last March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (25/1 -108%) Les's Legacy |
25/1(-108%) | (9) Les's Legacy 25/1, Three-time hurdle winner last season. Hasn't quite matched that form in 2 runs over fences but step back in right direction (in first-time cheekpieces) when fourth of 8 to Duyfken in handicap hurdle at this C&D (soft) 30 days ago. Needs to build on that now. Well beaten in first-time cheekpieces behind Duyfken and Lihyan over C&D back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (14/1 -40%) Dance Thief |
14/1(-40%) | (10) Dance Thief 14/1, Point winner who has improved for switch to handicaps in this sphere, runner-up over this sort of trip at Carlisle before filling same spot at Ayr (18f) 46 days ago. This tougher but he remains less exposed than most. 1-7 in points; 0-6 over hurdles, taking second in handicaps (2m3f/2m2f) on last two starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A step up in trip saw DUYFKEN return to the winner's enclosure over C&D last month when getting the better of Lihyan, and Nick Alexander's gelding appears to be capable of backing that performance up. The aforementioned Lihyan is expected to be in the mix once again, while others who are likely to be competitive include Welsh Charger and Sleeping Satellite.
Plenty to ponder in an interesting handicap with SLEEPING SATELLITE earning the vote. Donald McCain's 6-y-o showed improved form when runner-up at Doncaster last month, finding only another well-treated sort too strong, and this longer trip could well unlock further progress. Impact du Bonheur needs considering also for Paul Nicholls, with Welsh Charger and recent C&D 1-2 Duyfken and Lihyan completing the shortlist.
There is surely more improvement to come from last-time-out winners WELSH CHARGER (nap) and Duyfken.

1st (6) (2/1 -14%) Wicked Thoughts |
2/1(-14%) | (6) Wicked Thoughts 2/1, Wide-margin winner sole outing in points (Apr 10) and, while he didn't quite come up to expectations when third in a bumper at Ffos Las 112 days ago, he's worth another chance to show what he's capable of. Bought for £135,000 after impressive point win; not disgraced at Ffos Las for new yard. |

2nd (1) (7/2 -17%) Getagin |
7/2(-17%) | (1) Getagin 7/2, Showed ability in points and made a successful start under Rules in an 8-runner C&D event 48 days ago. Should go well again. Justified favouritism in C&D contest on rules debut, beating a subsequent winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (16/5 +54%) Saxon Star |
16/5(+54%) | (7) Saxon Star 16/5, Saxon Warrior filly. Dam fairly useful 10.7f winner on Flat. Should have the speed for this sort of test and stable is in good order. 35,000gns yearling; by Saxon Warrior; market can guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (15/2 +25%) Manfredi |
15/2(+25%) | (5) Manfredi 15/2, Yet to make an impact in two Irish bumpers but there have been signs of ability and this is a bit easier. Not discounted in a first-time tongue strap. Stablemate of Kinbara Hills; fitting of tongue-tie may prompt improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (18/1 -29%) Apollo Nine |
18/1(-29%) | (3) Apollo Nine 18/1, Sea The Moon gelding. Half-brother to 2 winners, including 15f hurdle winner in Italy Lights of Home. Dam 9.5f/1¼m winner. Well worth a market check. 3,000gns yearling; by Sea The Moon; heed the market signals. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (8/1 -60%) Kinbara Hills |
8/1(-60%) | (4) Kinbara Hills 8/1, £20,000 3-y-o, Hillstar gelding. Half-brother to fair hurdler Mustang Alpha. From a good family and looks the stable's first choice on jockey bookings. £20,000 3yo; Irish stable has a good strike-rate in British bumpers; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (20/1 -167%) Alkaid |
20/1(-167%) | (2) Alkaid 20/1, 4,000 gns 3-y-o, Sea The Stars horse. Dam ran once on Flat. Wears tongue strap. Interesting newcomer. 4,000gns 3yo; by Sea The Stars out of a half-sister to Taghrooda; interesting. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Getagin justified favouritism when making a winning start under Rules over C&D in December and is likely to be popular once again. However, he may struggle to successfully give 4lb to WICKED THOUGHTS, who finished third at Ffos Las on his first run for Paul Nicholls, having won a point-to-point last April. The son of Mahler is expected to have come forward from that initial experience, while Kinbara Hills and Alkaid are a pair of newcomers who could make an impact.
WICKED THOUGHTS was a little underwhelming at Ffos Las 112 days ago but he's open to plenty of improvement based on his point form, so he's marginally preferred to Getagin, who has a penalty for his C&D success. Kinbara Hills is the pick of the newcomers.
Ditcheat runner WICKED THOUGHTS is given another chance. Course winner Getagin is second choice.
Ths is the racecard key.
