1st (3) ![]() Tripoli Flyer |
2/5(+52%) | (3) Tripoli Flyer 2/5, Most progressive in bumpers last season (runner-up at Grade 2 level). Highly encouraging start in this sphere when second in a Chepstow maiden (2m) in November and made most of good opportunity when going one place better at Market Rasen later that month. Plenty more to come. Smart bumper form last season and has made a solid start to hurdling career this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) ![]() Cloonainra |
4/1(-45%) | (7) Cloonainra 4/1, Debut winner who did very well under the circumstances when second in a big-field Leopardstown handicap (2m) over Christmas, badly hampered early. Backed up that performance when second in Haydock Grade 2 (15.6f) 2 weeks ago and she's a player here in receipt of weight all round. Excellent second of 19 on handicap debut and has since gone close in a Grade 2 novice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) ![]() Clap Of Thunder |
5/1(+9%) | (1) Clap Of Thunder 5/1, Placed on 3 of 4 starts in bumpers last season. Struck in a 2m Ascot novice in November and shaped better when result when fifth of 15 in 2m Cheltenham handicap a fortnight later. Too keen when third at Chepstow in December and claims here if first-time hood has the desired effect. Two good runs since Ascot win in November; probably won't be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) ![]() Travis Wheatley |
50/1(-52%) | (6) Travis Wheatley 50/1, Point winner in May and shaped encouragingly switched to Rules when second in Newcastle bumper in October. Offered more than on hurdles debut when fourth of 5 in a Catterick novice (15.7f) 32 days ago but this demands a good deal more. Point winner; first two hurdle runs were underwhelming and improvement is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) ![]() Evaluation |
28/1(-75%) | (2) Evaluation 28/1, Useful handicapper on Flat (stays 16.5f) who made a seamless transition to hurdles when landing 2m Ayr novice in November. May of found race coming too soon when last of 6 at Newcastle (22f) later that month and he's certainly not one to be writing off. Useful Flat racer; won easily on hurdle debut; had excuse when well beaten last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) ![]() Soldier In Mayo |
66/1(-230%) | (5) Soldier In Mayo 66/1, £40,000 4-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points (Nov 3) and offered something to work on when fourth of 8 in a Newcastle bumper (16.9f) 17 days ago. No reason why he won't make his mark in this sphere, for all this looks a tough enough introduction. Irish point winner; ran okay in a bumper this month but has good standard to reach here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) ![]() Midnight Potter |
125/1(-25%) | (4) Midnight Potter 125/1, Failed to settle and ultimately well held on bumper debut at Wetherby in December and low-key hurdles debut run followed at Market Rasen 16 days ago, tailing off after 3 out having again raced freely. Can only be watched in this even deeper contest. Tailed off when 66-1 for recent hurdling debut at Market Rasen. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
TRIPOLI FLYER finished runner-up in the Grade 2 bumper at Aintree's Grand National meeting and got off the mark at the second attempt over hurdles at Market Rasen in a bloodless manner. The six-year-old is unlikely to have any issue with stepping up in grade before potentially tackling bigger options in the spring. Cloonainra has to be the main threat based on her second in the Rossington Main at Haydock just over a fortnight ago, although useful Flat performer Evaluation can't be written off having clearly not run his race at Newcastle in November.
Most progressive in bumpers, TRIPOLI FLYER made the most of a good opportunity when opening his account over hurdles at the second attempt at Market Rasen in November. Appealing as the type to rate significantly higher in this sphere, he can take this rise in class in his stride and follow up. Cloonainra is fancied to pose the chief threat following her good second in Grade 2 company at Haydock 2 weeks ago, with Clap of Thunder next best.
Aintree festival bumper second TRIPOLI FLYER can collect this prize before a possible trip to Cheltenham next month.

1st (2) ![]() Insurrection |
9/2(-50%) | (2) Insurrection 9/2, Dual winner over hurdles who was a good second of 5 in listed novice at Chepstow on chasing debut in October. Excuses next time and back on track in handicap at Doncaster (20.5f, good to soft) 35 days ago, even though he did finish last of 3. Remains capable of better. No match for winner in three-runner handicap at Doncaster (2m4f); needs to find bit extra. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) ![]() Asta La Pasta |
4/5(+47%) | (3) Asta La Pasta 4/5, Three-time winner over hurdles and has improved sent chasing this season, making the most of a good opportunity at Carlisle (20f) in November. Has run well when placed both starts since, the winner from Kempton last time scoring again next start, and he holds leading claims. Ran well to be placed in novice handicaps at Newbury and Kempton (2m4f) last two starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) ![]() Alien Storm |
15/2(-25%) | (5) Alien Storm 15/2, Bettered his hurdles form at the first attempt over fences when winning a Plumpton handicap (17f) in September and resumed winning ways back at the same course (19.8f, good to soft) in December. Respected given the encouraging start he's made in this discipline. Second Plumpton chase win was over 2m4f (five ran); 2lb rise may well underestimate him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) ![]() Bowmore |
16/1(-60%) | (1) Bowmore 16/1, Made a successful start over fences at Tipperary (17.3f) in July but hasn't managed to kick on from that effort, ninth of 12 on handicap chase debut at Leopardstown (17f, good to soft) on Boxing Day. Will need to find more as he goes up in trip. Stiff task in Irish handicap last time and it looks to be same here; first run beyond 2m1f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) ![]() Choose A Copper |
10/1(+9%) | (7) Choose A Copper 10/1, Took a step forward when making a winning return/chasing bow at Hexham (20.1f) in October. Has gone backwards from that effort in 2 starts since, though, not always fluent when fifth of 6 at Ayr (20.5f, soft) a month ago. Has had a breathing operation. Not out of it if he's straight back to his best after his second wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) ![]() Autumn Return |
11/1(+21%) | (6) Autumn Return 11/1, Likeable hurdler who gained a second success in this sphere in a match at Newcastle (20.1f, good) in November. However, pulled up at Cheltenham (20.6f, good to soft) 50 days ago, so bounce back now called for. Mistakes saw her struggle from an early stage in Cheltenham handicap (28-1) latest start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) ![]() Breizh River |
22/1(-38%) | (4) Breizh River 22/1, Bright start to his chasing career, making it 3 wins from first 4 starts when scoring in handicap at Kelso (17.1f) in October. Found it tough in Grade 2 at Cheltenham before running no sort of race at this C&D last time, but he's not written off given his earlier promise. Poor show over C&D latest, notwithstanding soft going; stamina not proven at about 2m4f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Asta La Pasta has to be respected following placed efforts at Newbury and Kempton but the seven-year-old continues to creep up the handicap, rising 4lb for those defeats, and it wouldn't be a surprise if INSURRECTION stepped forward. A promising first effort over fences at Chepstow has been followed by a pair of excusable displays, including last time at Doncaster when the yard was going through a relatively quiet spell. Alien Storm and Choose A Copper are others for the shortlist.
ASTA LA PASTA has made a good start over fences, beaten only by a next-time-out winner at Kempton on his latest outing despite having raced freely, so he is taken to double his tally in this sphere. Alien Storm has also taken well to chasing, winning twice at Plumpton this season, and could be the main danger, while Insurrection could yet do better.
Alien Storm's 2m4f win at Plumpton points to a big run but ASTA LA PASTA's placed efforts in two stronger handicaps earn the vote.

1st (14) ![]() Magna Sam |
17/2(+6%) | (14) Magna Sam 17/2, Captured this prize in 2023 but lightly raced since and mainly well below par, Hinted at a revival on the back of wind surgery though when third of 6 in handicap chase at Doncaster 35 days ago so can't be ruled out with cheekpieces added. Won this in 2023 off 6lb higher; much brighter again five weeks ago after wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) ![]() Bodhisattva |
15/2(+66%) | (12) Bodhisattva 15/2, Bounced back to form in a change of headgear when second of 6 in 3m handicap chase at Doncaster 35 days ago. This Irish raider is no forlorn hope back up in trip. 3rd in the 3m5f Ulster National last April and better than ever when going close last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) ![]() Surrey Quest |
9/2(+36%) | (2) Surrey Quest 9/2, Prominent when unseated rider 14th in handicap chase at Newbury (26f, good to soft) 36 days ago. Runner-up at Cheltenham on his return so this former Scottish National runner-up can't be ruled out. Pipped in the Scottish National (4m, soft; 6lb higher today) last April; unseated latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() Anglers Crag |
8/1(+27%) | (5) Anglers Crag 8/1, A big improver for current stable after wind surgery last term, bagging the Eider at Newcastle. Hinted at a revival over an inadequate 2m5f when fifth of 10 at Market Rasen last time, going on well at the finish. Interesting off an easing mark. 4m Eider winner last term; latest start (inadequate trip) was step back in right direction. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) ![]() Manothepeople |
33/1(-175%) | (3) Manothepeople 33/1, Signed off last term with success in 3m2f handicap chase at Cheltenham in April and resumed with a good third at Chepstow. Pulled up back at Cheltenham last time though when racing lazily so he has a bit to prove now. Pulled up in November latest and also when he tried 4m in the 2023 Scottish National. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (11) ![]() Inis Oirr |
7/2(+65%) | (11) Inis Oirr 7/2, Bolted up in this 12 months ago. Winless since but not disgraced when fifth of 9 in handicap chase at Market Rasen (27.6f) 38 days ago. Blinkers replace usual visor here and he's very much one to consider back over a marathon trip. First-time visor in this 2023 saw him win by a street; now 5lb higher in first blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) ![]() King Turgeon |
10/1(-25%) | (1) King Turgeon 10/1, Had another breathing op and has taken his form to a new level this term, completing his hat-trick in 3m2f Cheltenham handicap in December. Posted an excellent third of 10 in 3m2f Wincanton handicap lasts time and he's a likely player once more if his stamina holds out. Hat-trick before his creditable third at Wincanton over 3m3f, the furthest he's been. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) ![]() Evies Vladimir |
11/2(+50%) | (13) Evies Vladimir 11/2, Irish challenger landed handicaps at Clonmel and Fairyhouse last winter. Not disgraced when seventh of 15 in Welsh National at Chepstow last time so needs considering with usual cheekpieces refitted. 19l seventh in the Welsh National at Chepstow (extended 3m6f, soft; 10-1) casts doubts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) ![]() Lord Accord |
11/1(+21%) | (6) Lord Accord 11/1, A fairly useful hurdles/chase winner this autumn and he arrives on the back of a solid third of 10 in 3m handicap hurdle at Wincanton 38 days ago. Much respected back in this sphere. Weakened right out of it in closing stages to 2023 Scottish National; a revival this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) ![]() Jerrash |
11/1(+61%) | (8) Jerrash 11/1, Dual winner around 2m4f in the summer and has continued in good nick over much longer trips, fourth of 7 in handicap chase at Newcastle (29.9f) 64 days ago. Can make his presence felt once more. Went close with strong finish in 3m5f Durham National; good record returning from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) ![]() Cadell |
12/1(-71%) | (4) Cadell 12/1, A fairly useful winner over hurdles and he took a sizeable step forward when landing 3m Wetherby novice chase in November. Not disgraced when last of 5 in Sandown Grade 2 chase (3m) since and possibilities with his stamina unlocked more. Stiff task last time; lightly raced and unexposed, facing a much longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) ![]() Cartonne |
12/1(+57%) | (15) Cartonne 12/1, Course winner who comes here on the back of a solid second of 8 in 3m handicap chase here 66 days ago. Takes a big step up in distance now though. Sometimes sets up a big lead; goes beyond 3m first time but he boxed on very well latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) ![]() The Newest One |
25/1(-79%) | (10) The Newest One 25/1, Made a winning return in 3m1f Cheltenham handicap chase in October but saw his run of good form come to an end when pulled up in Welsh National at Chepstow over Christmas. Sort to bounce back though. The Welsh National last time left his stamina unproven after two attempts at about 3m6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) ![]() Bretney |
28/1(-211%) | (7) Bretney 28/1, Resumed winning ways in Borders National at Kelso in December, finding plenty for pressure. Up 7 lb but this dour stayer is not taken lightly in his current mood. Won three regional Nationals, by 10l latest; move away from soft going might pose question. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Scottish National runner-up SURREY QUEST caught the eye massively on his return at Cheltenham before unseating at Newbury when attempting back-to-back Mandarin victories. The eight-year-old has a Grand National entry and a strong showing here would increase his chance of getting a run if connections are thinking of heading in that direction. Last year's runaway winner Inis Oirr sports first-time blinkers and effectively races off the same mark as 12 months ago, when factoring in Alan Doyle's 5lb allowance. His stable companion Cadell and top-weight King Turgeon warrant consideration too.
This is wide open but Brian Ellison's Eider Chase hero ANGLERS CRAG teed himself up perfectly for this when a running-on fifth over an inadequate 2m5f at Market Rasen last time and can capitalise on a handy-looking mark now back over a marathon distance. Last year's winner Inis Oirr could emerge as the chief threat, although 2023 victor Magna Sam and in-form pair King Turgeon and Cadell can also have a say in a cracking Edinburgh National. Surrey Quest completes the shortlist.
2023 winner Magna Sam can revive but the vote goes to last year's Eider winner ANGLERS CRAG. Third on the list is Surrey Quest.

1st (7) ![]() Pyffo |
8/1(+11%) | (7) Pyffo 8/1, Landed a 13-runner handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (23.3f) in June when trained by Jonjo & A J O'Neill and left disappointing first start for new yard well behind when second (enjoying the run of the race) behind Super Survivor (won again since). Could build on that but this is a much warmer race here. Bold show when close second of six at Doncaster (3m) latest on second run for this yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) ![]() Bugise Seagull |
16/1(-88%) | (1) Bugise Seagull 16/1, Irish point recruit who won first 2 starts over hurdles last term and ended campaign with good third in Aintree Grade 1 novice. Chasing didn't go to plan this season but back on track over hurdles when third of 6 at Doncaster (24.4f). Might just be in the grip of the handicapper at present. Closely matched with runner-up Pyffo on Doncaster result and could have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) ![]() Red Risk |
18/1(+36%) | (4) Red Risk 18/1, Good second in the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby last season but hasn't gone on from that, last seen when sixth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Aintree (20f, good to soft) back in May. However he is back down to his last winning mark and has run well fresh in the past. Each-way claims. Second in Grade 2 at Wetherby (3m, soft) in November 2023; well held since; off 261 days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) ![]() Idem |
16/1(-88%) | (6) Idem 16/1, Made the most of a drop in class to win an 11-runner handicap hurdle at Kelso (22.7f, good to soft) 35 days ago, travelled well and only push out late on. Up 4 lb and into a stronger race makes life tougher here. Well beaten when refusing in November but followed that with a tidy 2m6f win at Kelso. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) ![]() Top Man Tom |
15/2(+25%) | (12) Top Man Tom 15/2, Winning pointer who was runner-up over hurdles for Ben Pauling. Well held first 2 outings for current yard, but with transformed with visor back on when winning last two starts, latest over C&D 32 days ago, although a few underperformed that day and he's in a much better race here. C&D wins last two starts, by 12l latest; up 11lb but hard to pin down just how good he is. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) ![]() Doyen Quest |
4/1(+33%) | (5) Doyen Quest 4/1, Progressive sort at the end of last season / start of this campaign, scoring 4 times over hurdles. hiked up 10 lb for the last of those wins at Cheltenham (3m) back in November. While he found his current mark beyond him when fourth at the same venue in December, he can still be competitive here. Emphatic win when up to 3m at Cheltenham; creditable 4th there off this 10lb higher mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) ![]() Samui |
7/1(-40%) | (3) Samui 7/1, Smart performer on the Flat. Produced best effort to date in this sphere on return from 3-month break when winning a 9-runner handicap hurdle at Thurles (15.5f, good) 14 days ago. Always shaped as if 2½m miles would be within his reach, but into unknown territory tackling 3m here. Interesting. Emerged as very useful Flat stayer last year and returned to hurdling with a promising win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) ![]() Anna Bunina |
14/1(-17%) | (2) Anna Bunina 14/1, Likeable mare but now eighteen runs since last win in 2022. Finished fourth in this race last year before a respectable run in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival. Good second of 13 in handicap hurdle at Cheltenham (19.9f, good) 100 days ago and capable of hitting the frame once again. Strong-finishing 4th in this last year; close second at Cheltenham (2m4f) on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) ![]() Hamsiyann |
3/2(+50%) | (10) Hamsiyann 3/2, Very useful on the Flat (chased home subsequent Cesarewitch winner when last seen on the Level) and proving equally capable in this sphere, well-backed and readily landed a 10-runner handicap hurdle (21f) at Cheltenham. He'd need to be winning this if he's to line up in the Pertemps Final in March, Up 10lb after Cheltenham 2m5f win but form has been boosted and he brings major potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) ![]() Wakool |
40/1(-43%) | (9) Wakool 40/1, C&D winner but had a poor time last season and beaten 21 lengths when fourth on his return from wind surgery in November before being pulled-up (wore first-time tongue-tie) at Ayr last month. Cheekpieces on and tongue-tie removed here but easy to look elsewhere. No win since February 2023 and generally little impact since;. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) ![]() Hurricane Ali |
28/1(+44%) | (11) Hurricane Ali 28/1, Has finished in the frame on ten occasions since his last success in September 2022 but likely has his work cut out to finish in the first 4 here. Often thereabouts at up to 2m6f (tried 3m once) but does not look the percentage call. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
HAMSIYANN appeared to have plenty in hand when winning over 2m5f at Cheltenham in November and that was a clear career best over hurdles. A 10lb rise for that success is a slight concern, but it would be no surprise to see the five-year-old defy it here. Pyffo hit the crossbar at Doncaster last time and could go well once again, while Doyen Quest edges out Samui and Anna Bunina to be best of the rest.
Plenty will be seeking a top 4 finish to qualify for the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival in March and while most will want to protect their current handicap marks, connections of HAMSIYANN will be hoping that a win here will inflate his mark enough to be in contention for some of the big spring handicaps that lie just around the corner. Samui, Doyen Quest and Anna Bunina should all be in the mix for a place in the frame, possibly with one eye on bigger targets down the road.
Samui is very interesting but fellow Irish challenger HAMSIYANN (nap) showed stacks of promise with his 2m5f win at Cheltenham.

1st (8) ![]() Thistle Ask |
15/2(-36%) | (8) Thistle Ask 15/2, Fair winner at 16f over hurdles who was returning from 20 months off when encouraging second of 7 in handicap chase at Ayr (16.5f, good to soft) on debut over fences 97 days ago. Entitled to build on that. Back from long absence with very respectable chase debut in October; still has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) ![]() Duhallow Tommy |
7/2(+22%) | (7) Duhallow Tommy 7/2, Proved to be a different proposition switched to fences following a wind op last term, winning 3 times (at up to 19.8f, all at Plumpton). Performed with credit in both starts this term and looks sure to make his presence felt again here. Ran well from the front when second at Windsor seven weeks ago to a next-time-out winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) ![]() Hold Onto The Line |
6/1(+25%) | (9) Hold Onto The Line 6/1, Added to his good record at this venue when creditable 4¼ lengths second of 7 to Chapel Green in handicap chase over C&D (good to soft) 65 days ago. Should give another good account. Got back in the groove with good C&D second in November; remains on same workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() Mint Gold |
18/1(-50%) | (5) Mint Gold 18/1, Made light of a lengthy absence when successful over C&D back in November 2023. Largely performed well since and arrives on back of solid fourth at Sandown (15.5f, good to soft) in December. Warrants respect. Second in this race a year ago but younger rivals appeal more today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) ![]() Teddy Blue |
7/2(+61%) | (1) Teddy Blue 7/2, Talented but his temperament started to look an issue for the Moore stable last season and there was little sign of improvement on hurdles return for new yard at Cheltenham in November. Clearly comes with risks attached on chasing bow but he has been cut plenty of slack by the handicapper. Tailed off in valuable hurdle on stable debut but dangerous to ignore on this chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) ![]() Grain D'oudairies |
8/1(0%) | (2) Grain D'oudairies 8/1, Scored at Market Rasen (17.2f) in March and gained reward for consistency when returning to winning ways at Doncaster (16.4f) in November. In the process of running well when coming down 4 out at Wetherby since and ought to go well again. Good winner in November; contender if confidence is not dented by a subsequent heavy fall. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) ![]() Chapel Green |
6/1(+8%) | (6) Chapel Green 6/1, Back down in grade and ridden by this pilot, doubled his tally for the season when scoring over C&D in November. Posted good second of 6 at Ayr (16.5f, soft) since and looks a likely player. Clearcut C&D winner in November and returns here after good run in defeat 12 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) ![]() Salamanca Bay |
15/2(+53%) | (3) Salamanca Bay 15/2, Headstrong sort who was well served by fitting of a hood when off the mark over fences for Lucinda Russell at Ayr (16.5f) in March. Proved troublesome at start for new connections but lurks on a dangerous mark if putting it all together. Made all at Ayr last season; patient tactics have not paid dividends for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) ![]() Findthetime |
22/1(-120%) | (4) Findthetime 22/1, Landed a pair of small-field handicaps last winter for Nicky Richards and got back on track for his current yard when second at Hexham (15.6f) in June. However, he reportedly bled at Haydock latest and makes limited appeal. Bled from the nose when pulled up last time but still arrives here with something to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) ![]() Sea God |
28/1(-40%) | (10) Sea God 28/1, Bumper winner who shaped like a stayer switched to hurdling on first run since leaving John McConnell when fourth at Kelso (20.9f) in May. Gone the wrong way since, however, and is likely best watched on switch to larger obstacles. Pulled up twice since respectable hurdle debut but he is the dark horse in the line-up. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
CHAPEL GREEN was a ready winner over C&D two starts ago and was only narrowly denied off a 6lb higher mark at Ayr last time. The eight-year-old tops the shortlist on the back of those performances, despite a further 2lb rise. Duhallow Tommy could prove to be the main threat following a couple of encouraging efforts in defeat, although Hold Onto The Line and Grain D'oudairies should not be discounted.
There should be plenty of pace on here, which will suit CHAPEL GREEN, who got back to winning ways over C&D in November and has run well at Ayr since. He gets the nod in a tricky-looking contest. Grain d'Oudairies and Mint Gold are also of interest.
Free-goer SALAMANCA BAY is well handicapped on last year's front-running form and might be worth chancing.

1st (6) ![]() Prince Of Perth |
15/2(+32%) | (6) Prince Of Perth 15/2, Having shaped like a stayer in his qualifying runs, showed improved form upped in trip for handicap debut when successful at this course (19.8f, good to soft) in December. Suffered from breathing problem last and he remains with some potential now tongue tied. 2m4f win here on handicap debut; respiratory noise next time, so wind op and tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) ![]() Hostile Hotelier |
6/1(+25%) | (2) Hostile Hotelier 6/1, Ran only respectably in a first-time visor when fourth of 7 in handicap hurdle (10/3) at Ffos Las (20f, heavy) 45 days ago, looking short of speed. Return to further should suit but others make greater appeal. Usually thereabouts but it's not been good enough for a win this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) ![]() Thunder N Lightnin |
11/2(+31%) | (10) Thunder N Lightnin 11/2, 7-y-o who showed promise in pair of novice hurdles last winter and again showed encouragement after 10 months off when third in 6-runner novice at Kempton (21f) in November. Appeals as the type to make his mark now handicapping in this sphere and good showing anticipated. Off since November but an interesting prospect upped in trip for this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) ![]() You Some Girl |
4/1(+20%) | (5) You Some Girl 4/1, Completed a hat-trick when scoring easily at this C&D in November and has continued in good heart since, left with too much to do when fourth of 10 in amateur jockeys' handicap at Catterick (25.3f, good) 47 days ago. Respected. Another 4lb higher today but she's progressed well this season, including over C&D. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) ![]() Belvedere Blast |
11/2(-83%) | (1) Belvedere Blast 11/2, Took advantage of a falling mark to notch a third course win at Market Rasen (23.1f, good to soft) 16 days ago. Well suited by emphasis on speed there but can't be discounted with 10-lb claimer retaining ride. On the go since May; clearcut win under J Robottom over 2m7f at Market Rasen 16 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) ![]() Not In Kansas |
14/1(+44%) | (12) Not In Kansas 14/1, Recorded back-to-back wins here and at Perth in the spring and produced his best effort of the winter when third over C&D in November. Not in same form at Kelso since and this represents a stiff task. Had wind surgery the day after her latest start and needs overall improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) ![]() See A Stride |
12/1(+25%) | (9) See A Stride 12/1, Ex-Irish mare got back on track when fourth of 10 in handicap hurdle (40/1) at this course (19.8f, good to soft) 65 days ago. Return to this trip should suit and she's not one to rule out. Ex-Gordon Elliott; best effort last term over 3m1f on heavy; back near that form latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) ![]() Beat The Retreat |
11/1(+45%) | (13) Beat The Retreat 11/1, Proved he retains ability under this 10-lb claimer when third here in November but was never better than mid-field at Ayr last month. Receives plenty of weight here but a clear career-best would likely be needed. Fair while since he ran much beyond 2m4f; may be worth another go but he's very in and out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) ![]() Secret Secret |
28/1(-12%) | (11) Secret Secret 28/1, Resumed winning ways in convincing fashion at Cartmel in July. Well beaten after a 4-month break in a 16-runner handicap hurdle at Hexham (23.3f, soft, 20/1) 53 days ago, so bounce back is required, 4-27 over hurdles, latest win at Cartmel last July; off 107 days before tailed off latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (8) ![]() High Dancer |
8/1(+27%) | (8) High Dancer 8/1, Point winner ran to a fair level when third at Kelso on his hurdles debut. Failed to progress when fourth at Wetherby (16f, heavy, 7/1) 57 days ago and probably needs to improve over this longer trip to defy a harsh-looking opening mark. Minor honours over 2m in his two runs over hurdles; needs a market check on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (3) ![]() Topofthecotswolds |
40/1(-344%) | (3) Topofthecotswolds 40/1, Very much in the doldrums over fences this autumn for Nigel Twiston-Davies, so can only be watched returning to hurdles for his new yard. No win since 2022 for N Twiston-Davies; yard debut is first hurdle race since April 2021. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) ![]() Got Your Back |
11/1(-38%) | (4) Got Your Back 11/1, Scored here in December 2023 and ran creditably from the front in first-time blinkers and tongue strap at Catterick (19.3f, good) 36 days ago, Unproven over this far but holds solid place claims if seeing out the trip. Third or fourth over about 2m4f in three of his four handicaps; needs to find extra. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) ![]() Leading Force |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Leading Force 16/1, Seemingly needed the run after a wind-op when fourth in a handicap chase here in December but failed to come on for the outing when last of 8 at Newcastle (20.1f, good to soft) 17 days ago. Bit to prove back over hurdles. Off the boil over fences and this is his first run over hurdles since last January. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Thunder N Lightnin wasn't disgraced when finishing third in a novice hurdle at Kempton in November and an opening mark of 102 looks workable. Harry Derham's gelding isn't taken lightly up in trip, but recent Market Rasen winner BELVEDERE BLAST shades the vote. The seven-year-old arrives here off just 4lb higher in the ratings and a brace could be on the cards. Hostile Hotelier and You Some Girl are others to consider.
YOU SOME GIRL is in the midst of a fine season and shaped as if still at the top of her game in a particularly unorthodox contest at Catterick prior to Christmas. She's fancied to score for the fourth time this campaign, though this should prove a competitive event, with See A Stride also shortlisted after an encouraging second run for the Susan Corbett yard. Last time out winner Belvedere Blast remains well treated on the pick of his form and is also shortlisted.
Most records look patchy but THUNDER N LIGHTNIN is an interesting handicap newcomer. Belvedere Blast and You Some Girl are next.

1st (4) ![]() Harper Valley |
9/1(0%) | (4) Harper Valley 9/1, Three hurdles victories for this yard and has been running consistently this season without troubling the judge, latest when third of 6 in a handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (19.8f, good to soft) 38 days ago. Cheekpieces back on and should give another decent account of himself. Tends to hit a flat spot in his races now but ended 2024 with a string of good efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) ![]() The Gray Ghost |
10/3(-11%) | (1) The Gray Ghost 10/3, Irish bumper winner who was off the mark for current connections when landing 10-runner novice hurdle (28/1) at Newcastle (20.3f, good to soft) 17 days ago, made smooth headway and outbattled runner-up. Open to improvement with not many miles on the clock. Came good in Newcastle maiden last month and can improve again in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) ![]() My Noble Lord |
3/1(0%) | (9) My Noble Lord 3/1, Four-time Flat winner for Michael Bell in 2024. Made a successful start over hurdles for this yard in a juvenile race at Chepstow in October, showing plenty to work with. Seemingly out of his depth in graded company last twice but interesting on handicap debut with the aid of sizeable age allowance. Juvenile hurdle winner who is open to improvement over this new trip on his handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) ![]() Coral Blue |
25/1(+50%) | (10) Coral Blue 25/1, C&D winner. Ran poorly after 6-months off when thirteenth of 18 in a handicap hurdle at Ayr (20.4f, soft) 31 days ago. Could strip fitter returning to a track he likes but only of interest if the betting hints at a more positive showing. Won three times over hurdles during 2022-23 season but seems to have lost his way. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) ![]() Les's Legacy |
10/1(+50%) | (8) Les's Legacy 10/1, Resurgent fourth of 7 in a handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (23.8f, good to soft) in November (wore first time tongue-tie), deserving extra credit having been left poorly placed with the way the race unfolded. Is now 4 lb below his last winning mark and has each-way appeal with tongue-tie retained. Might prefer a stiffer track but didn't run badly here last time and remains on good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) ![]() Knomorediamonds |
10/1(0%) | (6) Knomorediamonds 10/1, Fair form over hurdles, reaching the frame in 17f handicaps at Carlisle this autumn before slightly below-par effort when third of 11 in a novice hurdle at Newcastle (16.9f, good to soft) 50 days ago. Looks worth a go at this trip and could be open to further progress now back in a handicap. Went close on handicap debut in October but two lesser efforts have followed; up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) ![]() Monteplex |
33/1(0%) | (11) Monteplex 33/1, Modest form at best in bumpers and ran to a similar level when second of 7 in novice hurdle at Kelso (16.2f, soft) in March 2023. Offered little in first-time cheekpieces following 22-months off and others preferred on the back of that effort. Well beaten in a novice last month, after a long layoff, but remains unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) ![]() Circuit Breaker |
14/1(-17%) | (2) Circuit Breaker 14/1, Useful handicapper on Flat (stays 2m) who landed a 4-runner novice at Kempton with ease on hurdling debut and not disgraced in better event at Haydock since. Blotted his copybook with poor run at Ascot in December (weak in the betting and sweated beforehand). Questions to answer now. Won a very gruelling race on hurdling debut (2m5f); well beaten in 2m7f handicap since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) ![]() Speed Davis |
8/1(-14%) | (5) Speed Davis 8/1, Course winner. Won an Irish/point bumper. Landed maiden hurdle at Musselburgh (17.5f) in April and decent second under a penalty at Bangor in May but not in the same form in two runs since. Beaten favourite when last on handicap debut (after a 6-month break) in December and tried in blinkers now. Course winner; may not have handled the heavy ground when disappointing on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) ![]() Albatala |
8/1(-7%) | (7) Albatala 8/1, Showed improved form when second on her last two outings at Down Royal and she could easily have more to offer now stepping up in distance for yard who have been placed with 5 of their last 6 U.K. runners (including one winner) prior to this meeting. Clear second over 2m1f at Down Royal on last two starts and unexposed over today's trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A first-time hood and 74-day break worked the oracle for THE GRAY GHOST when denying a Dan Skelton hotpot to open his account over hurdles at Newcastle. Although a rating of 117 on his handicap bow may require further improvement, the top-weight looks capable of better. The biggest threat may emerge in the shape of Circuit Breaker, who shouldn't be underestimated dropping in distance. The in-form Albatala can also have a say if seeing out the rise in trip.
MY NOBLE LORD makes his handicap debut with aid of sizeable age allowance and he can put that to good use to regain the winning thread. Lightly-raced Knomorediamonds could have more to offer at this trip, while Les's Legacy looks well-treated if building on the promise of his last run.
Handicap debutant MY NOBLE LORD will to find this easier than the Grade 2 juvenile hurdles he contested on his last two outings.
Ths is the racecard key.
