1st (2) (4/5 +54%) Johnny Ringo |
4/5(+54%) | (2) Johnny Ringo 4/5, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 1¼m) and made a positive start to his hurdle career when second over C&D (good to soft) 5 weeks ago, with the reopposing Spartan Warrior 8 lengths back in third. Leading claims with improvement likely. Useful Flat winner who was runner-up over C&D on hurdle debut; holds leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/1 -22%) Maple |
11/1(-22%) | (3) Maple 11/1, Modest maiden on the Flat for Sir Michael Stoute. Reached the frame in his first 2 hurdles for new connections but let down by his jumping at Catterick latest, unseating at the fourth. Hood back on. Has shown some ability over hurdles; needs to take a step forward to pose a serious threat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (4/1 -20%) Cracker Star |
4/1(-20%) | (1) Cracker Star 4/1, 1½m Flat winner for Richard Hughes. Sent off a short-priced favourite for Kempton hurdle debut in October but weakened into a well-held fourth. Now has the cheekpieces he wore when successful on the Flat combined with the tongue tie he wore at Kempton. Interesting to see whether his backers return. Below market expectations on hurdle/stable debut but could be a different proposition here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (66/1 -164%) Snow Dragon |
66/1(-164%) | (6) Snow Dragon 66/1, Swerved and unseated first on debut at Wetherby and ran to a barely modest level when last of 5 at Doncaster 4 weeks later. Johnny Ringo has to be considered the yard first string. Well beaten at Doncaster last time and yard has far more obvious claims with Johnny Ringo. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (5/1 -50%) Spartan Warrior |
5/1(-50%) | (7) Spartan Warrior 5/1, Fair dual Flat winner for Ollie Sangster and has translated that ability to hurdles, finishing third over C&D (Johnny Ringo ahead in second) and at Newcastle in quick succession in November. Player. Fair third on both hurdle starts and he's back in cheekpieces, which he wore for Flat wins. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (12/1 +25%) Platin Moon |
12/1(+25%) | (5) Platin Moon 12/1, Fair form when third in newcomers race at Clairefontaine on his Flat debut in August. Sold from Andreas Suborics for €32,000 in November. Market informative now hurdling. Promising third on sole French Flat start; brings potential to his hurdle and stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (16/1 -14%) Miaswell |
16/1(-14%) | (4) Miaswell 16/1, Fair dual 1m Flat winner for David O'Meara. Offered something to work on when fifth of 11 on Catterick hurdle debut last month but his jumping lacked fluency. Soundly beaten on hurdle debut but in a warm race; 2-time Flat winner; open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (50/1 +0%) Lady Phoebe |
50/1(+0%) | (8) Lady Phoebe 50/1, Modest maiden handicapper on Flat (stays 1½m) and below form in that sphere of late. Probably best watched now hurdling. Modest 13-race maiden on the Flat and she would be a surprise winner on hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Johnny Ringo struck the woodwork over C&D on his hurdling bow and must be respected with improvement on the cards, but the vote goes to CRACKER STAR. Harry Derham's juvenile disappointed at Kempton in October having been sent off a warm favourite, but that experience will aid his chance and the cheekpieces could give him an added boost. Spartan Warrior was a place behind Johnny Ringo here before again taking third at Newcastle and is expected to be in the mix too.
JOHNNY RINGO can confirm November's C&D superiority over Spartan Warrior and make it second time lucky over hurdles. The fact that Cracker Star went off an even-money favourite on his hurdle debut suggests he's thought capable of better than he showed on that occasion.
Two-time Flat winner MIASWELL is open to improvement on his second hurdle start and earns the vote ahead of Johnny Ringo.

1st (1) (11/4 -38%) Okavango Delta |
11/4(-38%) | (1) Okavango Delta 11/4, Hurdles winner who has made a positive start for this yard, off the mark at the third attempt in 8-runner handicap chase over C&D in November. Ran at least as well upped in trip when runner-up here (23.6f, good to soft) last month and looks sure to be in the mix again. Won over C&D in November and good second over 2m7f here last time; solid claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (6/1 -9%) Divas Doyen |
6/1(-9%) | (6) Divas Doyen 6/1, Finally got off the mark at Carlisle in November, seen to good effect in having her cards played later than the placed pair and having the benefit of the rail late on. Ran at least as well in defeat when second to Okavango Delta over C&D (good to soft) last time so should be involved. Well suited by this course (second over C&D latest) and she's a strong candidate once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (11/2 -57%) Winds Of Winter |
11/2(-57%) | (5) Winds Of Winter 11/2, Has finished runner-up on 3 of her 4 starts for Iain Jardine, latest in 5-runner handicap at this course (15.6f, good to soft) just over 3 weeks ago. Back up in trip for her chase debut and rates as a player if taking to this new discipline. Placed over hurdles on all four starts for this yard; might not be far away on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (28/1 -12%) Benefit Ben |
28/1(-12%) | (3) Benefit Ben 28/1, Maiden Irish pointer who showed ability in maiden/novice hurdles last winter but well held on his Ayr handicap debut in April (final start for Sandy Thomson). Ran poorly on return here (15.6f, good to soft) just under 5 weeks ago and now attentions are switched to the larger obstacles. Well beaten in both handicap hurdles but this point runner-up could be suited by fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (9/1 +25%) Prospect House |
9/1(+25%) | (7) Prospect House 9/1, Off the mark in handicap hurdle at Market Rasen in September 2023 but rather miss than hit since. However, he hinted at a revival when third of 9 in handicap chase at Catterick (15.7f, good) just over a fortnight ago so is one to bear in mind with this step back up in trip sure to suit. The step back up in trip may be a positive and he's on a handy mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (9/4 +55%) Valleyview Tommy |
9/4(+55%) | (4) Valleyview Tommy 9/4, Placed in a couple of maiden hurdles last season and left chasing debut effort behind when fourth of 7 in handicap at this course (15.8f, good to soft) just under 5 weeks ago. Fancied to do better now back over further with a new headgear combination tried (visor/tongue tie). Fair fourth over 2m here last time and today's longer trip could be a good fit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (7/1 -40%) Shadows In The Sky |
7/1(-40%) | (2) Shadows In The Sky 7/1, Point winner who has scored twice over 2½m at Hexham this season, the latter success coming with a visor added in October. Found it harder to dominate in a higher grade at Newcastle (20.1f, good) since, but fancied to get back on track reunited with his regular pilot. Below par last time but has won two of his last six starts and is not written off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A mistake two from home put paid to the chances of OKAVANGO DELTA over an extended 2m7f here last month and he can make amends. Paul Robson's charge is 4lb worse off with Divas Doyen, who he defeated over C&D in November, but the manner in which he won that day would suggest it will be no barrier to further success. Winds Of Winter has been admirably consistent over hurdles and is an interesting prospect now switched to fences.
Cases can be made for most, but the vote goes to OKAVANGO DELTA, who won over C&D in November and ran at least as well in defeat from a 6 lb higher mark when finding just one too strong back over further here last month. Winds of Winter has finished runner-up on 3 of her 4 starts since joining Iain Jardine, so she heads up the opposition on chase debut, with Divas Doyen taken to edge out Shadows In The Sky for third.
Preference is for OKAVANGO DELTA, who has been in fine form here of late. His old rival Divas Doyen is the danger.

1st (5) (7/2 +46%) Bold Light |
7/2(+46%) | (5) Bold Light 7/2, Runner-up completed start in points and confirmed promise of his placed efforts during the spring when landing 10-runner maiden at Kelso in ready fashion in October. Unable to replicate that form up in grade at Haydock since and rates a leading player now handicapping upped in distance. Kelso maiden winner; well beaten in Grade 2 since but retains potential now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (8/1 +0%) Ballygeary |
8/1(+0%) | (4) Ballygeary 8/1, Resumed winning ways at Market Rasen in June and might have needed the run after 4 months off at Aintree but disappointed when pulled up in a competitive race at Haydock (19f, soft) in November. This is an easier test but needs to bounce back. Runner-up on this card last year but hasn't been at his best on his last three starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/4 -38%) Liari |
9/4(-38%) | (2) Liari 9/4, Fairly useful on Flat in France and similar form when winning all 3 starts in juvenile hurdles for this yard, latterly at this track in February. Shaped well when third at Chepstow on return but unable to build on that 7 weeks on at Newbury (16.3f) recently. Step up in trip may unlock more. Won Listed juvenile hurdle here in February and he's one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/4 +45%) Sweet Fantasy |
11/4(+45%) | (3) Sweet Fantasy 11/4, Useful Flat performer who won pair of 2m mares' novice hurdles early last year. Too fresh back from a break at Wetherby but more like it fitted with a hood when sixth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Cheltenham (20.2f, good to soft), having no chance from position. Plenty to like. Encouraging sixth at Cheltenham and she could have more to offer at this sort of trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (9/2 -13%) Benson |
9/2(-13%) | (1) Benson 9/2, Gained sixth win over hurdles when winning this corresponding race (for a second successive season) last term but ended the campaign on a downer and he's offered little so far this season, admittedly well out of his depth last time. Down in weights and worth chancing to make it 3 on the bounce. Hasn't shone this season but he's won the last two runnings of this race; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (28/1 -12%) Bringbackmemories |
28/1(-12%) | (6) Bringbackmemories 28/1, Scored 4 times on the Flat in 2024 but ridden with more restraint back hurdling and could never land a blow at Carlisle in November. Went backwards from that effort kept to patient tactics when tailed off at Kelso (16.2f, soft) subsequently and now heads up in distance. Tailed off at Kelso last time but the return to this venue may be in his favour. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
LIARI was a Listed winner over an extended 1m7f here back in February and although yet to add to that triumph, the Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old was far from disgraced in the Gerry Feilden at Newbury last time and may be able to build on it now eased 1lb. Benson was never involved in the Fighting Fifth, but his mark continues to fall and he should not be underestimated as he goes for his third successive triumph in this race. Sweet Fantasy can chase the pair home.
BENSON arrives somewhat out of sorts but, having won the previous 2 renewals of this race, he gets the nod to complete the hat-trick with hopes pinned on a return to this venue sparking a revival. The main danger may emerge from Sweet Fantasy, who had a near-hopeless task from her position at Cheltenham last month, with Liari rounding off the shortlist stepping up to 2½m for the first time.
The return to Musselburgh could be a positive for LIARI, who won a Listed juvenile hurdle here in February, and he gets the nod.

1st (4) (3/1 +33%) Boomslang |
3/1(+33%) | (4) Boomslang 3/1, Maiden hurdle winner in June who has quickly reached a higher level over fences, value for a good deal extra when making it 2 wins from 3 starts in this sphere at Carlisle (24.5f) last month. Plenty more to come. A better chaser than hurdler and defied 12st with a game performance at Carlisle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (3/1 +25%) Beau Balko |
3/1(+25%) | (3) Beau Balko 3/1, Reliable sort doubled his tally over fences in a 4-runner handicap at Wincanton (2½m, good) in November. Good efforts when chasing home improved rivals both outings since and he's likely to be in the mix again. Solid efforts in defeat the last twice and looks sure to be involved once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (8/1 +20%) Half Shot |
8/1(+20%) | (5) Half Shot 8/1, Perked up by application of blinkers as he capitalised on reduced mark at Kelso in September, rallying to edge back ahead final 50 yds.- Has remained in good heart since, albeit producing a mixed round of jumping when third there in November. Place claims with Hughes back aboard. Three good runs since the blinkers went on; raised in grade here but has claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (8/1 +60%) Indian Louis |
8/1(+60%) | (8) Indian Louis 8/1, Dual point winner who made a winning chase debut on this card last season. Back on track when doubling his tally over fences at Perth (21f, soft) in September and improved further when runner-up at Carlisle next time, but will need further progress to figure here. In-form front-runner but this is competitive and he's 8lb out of the handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (7/1 +61%) High Moon |
7/1(+61%) | (7) High Moon 7/1, Remains with only a sole chase success to his name but once more shaped encouragingly when third of 14 in handicap chase (9/2) at Hexham (20.1f, soft) 21 days ago. Career best likely to need to win this from out of the weights, though. Back in better form but being 7lb wrong is not ideal and they claimed 7lb last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (9/1 -64%) Breizh River |
9/1(-64%) | (2) Breizh River 9/1, Could barely have taken any better to chasing, gaining his third win from his first 4 starts in this sphere at Kelso in October. Flying too high in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham last time but has to be respected back in a handicap. His improvement has come over shorter trips on goodish ground (rain forecast). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (11/2 -38%) Corrigeen Rock |
11/2(-38%) | (1) Corrigeen Rock 11/2, Likeable sort was runner-up in the contest last season before landing a big pot here (20.3f, good to soft) the following month. Shaped as if better for the run at Ascot on return and he's respected trying to give plenty of weight away all round. Perhaps needed comeback run; his C&D success in February is strong form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (25/1 -194%) Gold Des Bois |
25/1(-194%) | (6) Gold Des Bois 25/1, Endured a long losing for Iain Jardine but made his second start for Sandy Thomson a winning one when scoring in a 6-runner event at Kelso (17.1f, good to soft) 53 days ago. Has proved competitive from higher marks, so can't be discounted from out of the weights. Idled when edging home at Kelso; up the weights in a better race and with stamina to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Paul Nicholls trained the winner of this contest in 2022 and BEAU BALKO arrives with solid claims. The seven-year-old has been thereabouts in tough handicaps on slower ground since scoring on good going at Wincanton in November and another bold bid looks on the cards. Corrigeen Rock showed progressive form over fences last season and an outing at Ascot will have blown any cobwebs away. Breizh River returns to handicap company with a shout based on his success at Kelso in October.
BOOMSLANG has made a fine start to his chasing career and was value for a good deal extra when taking his record over fences to 2-3 at Carlisle last time. He can defy a 7 lb rise at the chief expense of the consistent Beau Balko, who may have to settle for playing second fiddle again, with Gold des Bois fancied to complete the placings from just of the weights.
Corrigeen Rock has a bit of class about him but in BEAU BALKO he's up against an in-form and consistent opponent.

1st (5) (10/3 +5%) Top Man Tom |
10/3(+5%) | (5) Top Man Tom 10/3, Winning pointer who was runner-up on second of 2 starts over hurdles for Ben Pauling. Well held first 2 outings for current yard, but with visor back on he improved when making all at this C&D (good to soft) in November. Capable of another bold bid. Lightly raced over hurdles and made all in a Class 5 C&D handicap a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (14/1 +44%) Hey Mama Rock Me |
14/1(+44%) | (9) Hey Mama Rock Me 14/1, Stoutly bred and showed a bit more upped in trip when fourth of 7 in novice at Ayr (20.5f, good to soft) in March, though well held at Perth next time. Should be suited by this extra distance on handicap debut, but has 8-month absence to overcome. Unraced beyond 2m4f and there's stamina in the pedigree; makes handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (7/1 +22%) Brandy Mcqueen |
7/1(+22%) | (3) Brandy Mcqueen 7/1, Dual C&D winner in 2023, including this race. Made a winning chase debut at Kelso last season, but having largely struggled since he was runner-up back at Kelso in October. Not in the same form last 2 starts, though he's not ruled out reverted to hurdling. Won this two years ago; modest chase efforts of late but too well handicapped to ignore. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (7/2 +61%) Anamanda |
7/2(+61%) | (8) Anamanda 7/2, Fairly useful winner on the Flat in France who has shown some promise in handicap hurdles last 2 starts, running best race upped in trip when 7½ lengths second of 9 to You Some Girl at this C&D (good to soft) in November. Could still have more to offer. On the same mark as when no match for You Some Girl over C&D in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (33/1 -136%) Community Rebel |
33/1(-136%) | (6) Community Rebel 33/1, Successful on last of 4 starts in Irish points and, in first-time hood, made it third lucky over hurdles in maiden at this C&D in January 2023. However, pulled up in handicap at Ayr 4 months later and off another 20 months since (has had a wind op). C&D maiden winner; could be interesting after an absence should market vibes bode well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (9/2 +63%) Rickety Gate |
9/2(+63%) | (7) Rickety Gate 9/2, C&D winner who took advantage of a drop in the weights when scoring at Kelso in October. Bounced back from a lesser effort when fourth of 9 at Doncaster (24.4f, good) in November, left with too much to do, and he could be in the mix. Eyecatching fourth at Doncaster last time and this course winner has live claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (28/1 -367%) Giveupyerauldsins |
28/1(-367%) | (4) Giveupyerauldsins 28/1, Maiden pointer who didn't offer much on first 2 starts in maiden hurdles. However, upped in trip she got off the mark in 6-runner novice at Newcastle (22f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Will need to find more again with cheekpieces added for handicap bow. 2m6f novice winner and open to more improvement now into a handicap; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (3/1 -9%) Prince Of Perth |
3/1(-9%) | (2) Prince Of Perth 3/1, Having shaped like a stayer in his qualifying runs, showed improved form upped in trip for handicap debut when successful at this course (19.8f, good to soft) 23 days ago. Leading contender with further progress to come over this even longer distance. 2m4f winner on handicap debut and he's a half-brother to a 3m1f winner. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
PRINCE OF PERTH appreciated the step up to 2m4f when scoring here on his handicap debut. This extra test of stamina can bring further improvement from Lucinda Russell's unexposed hurdler and he is taken to defy a 6lb rise. Top Man Tom made all to score over C&D on his latest start and the six-year-old should have more to offer, while You Some Girl remains in fine form and can also have a say in proceedings.
PRINCE OF PERTH was suited by the longer trip when making a winning handicap debut at this course last time and he can follow up with better still to come as his stamina is drawn out further. You Some Girl has been going the right way with a hood reapplied this season and isn't taken lightly, while Top Man Tom also enters calculations.
After an eyecatching last run, RICKETY GATE (nap) gets the nod now he's reunited with Conor Rabbitt. You Some Girl is the danger.

1st (1) (5/6 +58%) Slugger |
5/6(+58%) | (1) Slugger 5/6, Talented but quirky in time with Iain Jardine but looked more straightforward when winning a pair of 2m handicap hurdles for new trainer Harry Derham in November. A 5 lb rise shouldn't prevent him making a bold bid for the hat-trick. 2-2 for this yard and an obvious contender despite going up 5lb for Doncaster (won by 1l). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (12/1 -167%) Ravenscraig Castle |
12/1(-167%) | (7) Ravenscraig Castle 12/1, Fairly useful stayer on Flat but hasn't won since his 3-y-o days. Has reached the frame on all 6 outings over hurdles but latest C&D fourth was no more than respectable and might find the odd one too strong again. His regular tongue tie is combined with refitted blinkers. Has had wind surgery. Dual winner stuck on a long losing run but he's consistent and has undergone wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (15/2 +17%) Scots Poet |
15/2(+17%) | (6) Scots Poet 15/2, Won this race 12 months ago and also went in at Perth (2m, soft) in April. Not at best in recent starts but probably needed his latest one after 4 months off and he's dropped to 2 lb below the mark he defied at Perth. No shock were he to go well in this race again. Arrived here in better form when taking this 12 months ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (14/1 +13%) Cuban Cigar |
14/1(+13%) | (5) Cuban Cigar 14/1, C&D winner. Not at best when behind a couple of these at Kelso last month but his solid Musselburgh record makes him a dangerous one to discount. Ground to make up on both Mack The Man and Ginger Mail on last month's Kelso encounter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (5/1 +9%) Ginger Mail |
5/1(+9%) | (2) Ginger Mail 5/1, Consistent type who won at Kelso (2m) last January and was also an excellent second in the valuable Morebattle Hurdle there in March. Shaped well on last month's reappearance (Kelso again) and should give a good account here. It was his first run for 232 days when close up behind Mack The Man at Kelso. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) (5/1 +0%) Kingston Narcissus |
5/1(+0%) | (4) Kingston Narcissus 5/1, Fair and consistent maiden on Flat in France and taken well to hurdles for Rebeca Menzies, finishing runner-up 3 times prior to deservedly getting his head in front in maiden at Sedgefield last month. Likely to give his running again but his opening mark does demand improvement. Finally off the mark in a Sedgefield maiden and this mark shouldn't be beyond him. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
It was soft ground when Scots Poet landed last year's renewal of this contest. He can go well again off his current mark, but the progressive SLUGGER makes most appeal. He has won both starts since joining Harry Derham's yard, including a cosy success at Doncaster last time. and the hat-trick looks a distinct possibility. Kingston Narcissus built on his earlier placed efforts when landing a maiden hurdle at Sedgefield and should prove competitive now handicapping for the first time.
GINGER MAIL is given a chance to build on an encouraging reappearance at Kelso last month and bring to an end the winning run of Slugger. Last year's winner Scots Poet could also feature.
With Harry Derham back amongst the winners there's every chance that SLUGGER can make it 3-3 for the stable.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool.
