1st (2) (6/1 -559%) Believe Jack |
6/1(-559%) | (2) Believe Jack 6/1, Made a winning start for this stable in a Hereford novice hurdle back in November 2021. Offered little returning from a after a 22-month absence when pulled up at Newton Abbot last month but showed more albeit never getting out of last at Leicester 11 days later. Cheekpieces applied. Useful 2m novice in 2021-22; off 662 days; fair run latest; player now down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8/13 +65%) Shetland Tony |
8/13(+65%) | (1) Shetland Tony 8/13, Drew a blank in 5 outings for Gordon Elliott but returned an improved performer for his new stable when easily taking 2m Stratford novice in October. Only tenth in Cheltenham handicap next time but back on track in an easier race when fifth at Huntingdon (15.8f, good) last month. Big chance. Won novice by 18l in October; fair runs in handicaps since; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (22/1 -10%) Wicklow Flyer |
22/1(-10%) | (4) Wicklow Flyer 22/1, Winner of a Bellewstown claimer on final start for Gordon Elliott last August but she has offered precious little since, including for current connections. Returns after another 3 months off. Ex-Irish; modest efforts for current yard; well handicapped now but others look stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (8/1 -33%) Out The Glen |
8/1(-33%) | (3) Out The Glen 8/1, Three chase wins at the start of 2022. Also runner-up twice at Huntingdon last spring but has run badly on both starts since returning from 5 months off. Back over the smaller obstacles and first-time blinkers could well spark some sort of revival. Dual winning chaser in March 2022 (2m4f); not at his best the last twice; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (150/1 -50%) Fast Deal |
150/1(-50%) | (7) Fast Deal 150/1, Poor maiden. Finished tailed-off last on the Flat at Southwell (11.1f) 5 days ago and he's firmly up against it from out of the weights. 40-race maiden; 23lb out of the handicap; would be a surprise winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (5/1 +38%) Edgar Allan Poe |
5/1(+38%) | (5) Edgar Allan Poe 5/1, Seven-time winner on the Flat who got off the mark in this sphere in 2m handicap at Catterick on New Year's Day. Bled on return at Sedgefield last month and finished well held at Newcastle (16.9f, soft) 12 days ago. Drops into selling company and that could do the trick. Won handicap in January; now 5lb lower but poor efforts this term; bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (20/1 +50%) Kracquer |
20/1(+50%) | (6) Kracquer 20/1, Sent off huge prices and offered little on both starts at Uttoxeter (15.8f) in July. Cheekpieces applied but can only be watched returning from 5 months off the track. Lightly raced 9yo; mainly modest form but fair effort latest; headgear tried; a possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BELIEVE JACK has done relatively well since joining the Olly Murphy yard and despite finishing last on his most recent start, he wasn't beaten overly far. A return to better ground is a major plus on this occasion and he can land this weak contest at the main expense of Out The Glen and Shetland Tony, who hasn't shown much since an easy win on his debut for new connections at Stratford in October.
A low-key start to proceedings in which preference is for SHETLAND TONY, who got back on track when fifth at Huntingdon last month and Nigel Twiston-Davies' 4-y-o can regain the winning thread dropped into selling company. Edgar Allan Poe has offered little on both recent outings but he's put forward as the main threat in this grade, with Believe Jack, who has headgear on for the first time, rounding off the shortlist.
The top two in the handicap look the main players, with BELIEVE JACK just preferred to Shetland Tony.

1st (1) (11/8 +8%) Asta La Pasta |
11/8(+8%) | (1) Asta La Pasta 11/8, Course bumper winner in February and impressed with how readily he picked up the runner-up from the last when following up on Uttoxeter hurdles debut (15.8f) in October. Disappointing at Exeter but got back on track switched to a handicap when third at Sandown (2m) 18 days ago. Sets the standard. Won hurdle debut and good 3rd in competitive 2m handicap last time; major chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +36%) Macanogue |
9/4(+36%) | (2) Macanogue 9/4, Improved when landing a gamble in 14-runner maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan (2m, good to soft) in May. Sold out of Luke Comer's yard for £30,000 and ran to a similar level behind an above-average one at Stratford 54 days ago. Likely to make his presence felt again. Won 2m Kilbeggan maiden in May; ran up against a good prospect on British debut; claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (22/1 -100%) Daaris |
22/1(-100%) | (4) Daaris 22/1, Fair Flat winner who improved on his first run in this sphere when third in 9-runner novice at Doncaster (16.6f) 24 days ago. That form has a rather muddling look to it, though. Flat winner at 1m6f; minor promise in 2nd hurdle start but half the hurdles were omitted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (40/1 +20%) Geordie Night |
40/1(+20%) | (5) Geordie Night 40/1, Half-brother to numerous winners but very little encouragement to be gleaned from both outings in bumpers and on C&D hurdle debut. Big prices and minor form in two bumpers and a maiden hurdle; up against it.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (100/1 -300%) Foursome |
100/1(-300%) | (8) Foursome 100/1, Belatedly off the mark on Flat at Nottingham in October. Backed that up when second at Redcar 9 days later but beaten a long way on last month's Huntingdon hurdle debut. Modest Flat winner at 1m2f; well held on hurdle debut; handicaps may suit better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (20/1 -122%) Nick The Greek |
20/1(-122%) | (6) Nick The Greek 20/1, Clovis Du Berlais gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (2¼m-19f winner) Adagio des Bordes. Unplaced completed start in points in April but has joined a top yard and would be all the more interesting if backed. Modest point form; bred to fare better at some stage and worth a market check for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (4/1 -14%) Taras Halls |
4/1(-14%) | (7) Taras Halls 4/1, Bumper winner for Lucy Wadham who was backed as though expected to go close when falling third in a novice at Wetherby on hurdling debut 27 days ago. Retains potential. Two good efforts in Huntingdon bumpers; outclassed next time; fell on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (10/1 -82%) Askmore |
10/1(-82%) | (3) Askmore 10/1, Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points. Finished only mid-filed in his sole bumper but stepped up on that effort sent hurdling when second in 6-runner novice at Carlisle (19.3f) 23 days ago. Won sole completion in an Irish point; fair 2nd on hurdle debut (2m3f); more needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Runner-up to a talented sort of Henry Daly's on his debut for new connections at Stratford last month, MACANOGUE must hold every chance if building upon that effort. The six-year-old won at Kilbeggan on his previous start and he may have too much for Carlisle runner-up Askmore and Asta La Pasta, who ran a promising race on his handicap debut at Sandown earlier in the month.
ASTA LA PASTA got back firmly on track switched to a handicap in a first-time tongue strap (retained here) when third at Sandown 18 days ago, despite being left with too much to do, and this looks a good opportunity for him to defy a penalty. Taras Halls didn't get very far on his Wetherby hurdle debut but was backed as though expected to go close and retains potential. Macanogue is likely to make his presence felt, too.
Macanogue and Taras Halls make some appeal but ASTA LA PASTA did well under a big weight at Sandown and is preferred.

1st (7) (3/1 -20%) Benny Baloo |
3/1(-20%) | (7) Benny Baloo 3/1, Just poor form over hurdles but shaped better sent chasing when fifth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (23.4f) 33 days ago, finishing with running left after meeting some trouble approaching 2 out. Open to improvement. Improved on hurdles form when 5th on chase debut at Newcastle last month; each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/2 +77%) Artic Breeze |
5/2(+77%) | (5) Artic Breeze 5/2, Showed very little in 6 hurdle starts for Laura Morgan but was an Irish point winner earlier in his career, so worth a precautionary check in the betting now going chasing. Winning pointer; modest hurdler; interesting on chase/stable debut with headgear tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (12/1 -100%) Noche Negra |
12/1(-100%) | (2) Noche Negra 12/1, Down the field all 3 starts in maiden hurdles but was placed in points earlier in his career and looks an interesting handicap/chasing debutant. Watch betting. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Placed in two Irish points in 2022; modest over hurdles; likely to fare better over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (7/1 -180%) Via Dante |
7/1(-180%) | (6) Via Dante 7/1, Little impact in varied events over hurdles but surely would have won but for departing late (in control when fell 2 out) at Newton Abbot (25.8f) when last seen in April. Major player if returning in similar form. Definite promise on second chase start; an interesting contender on return from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (14/1 -17%) Glance From Clover |
14/1(-17%) | (1) Glance From Clover 14/1, Improved in first-time cheekpieces when finally off the mark in 8-runner Warwick handicap hurdle in March. Entitled to strip fitter for his recent Ludlow return but he ran poorly tried over fences at aforementioned venue in May. Fair hurdler; well beaten on chase debut and over hurdles last time; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (7/2 +30%) Annaharvey Lad |
7/2(+30%) | (3) Annaharvey Lad 7/2, Lightly-raced maiden who shaped as if needing the run when sixth of 10 in a handicap hurdle at this course (20.6f, good to soft) on return 40 days ago. Step up in trip ought to suit and appeals as the type to take to chasing (made the frame in Irish points). Fair form in two Irish points; not so good over hurdles; can do better now going chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (4) (10/1 -33%) Le Grand Vert |
10/1(-33%) | (4) Le Grand Vert 10/1, Hurdles winner in France in summer 2021. No impact over hurdles for this yard but more encouragement in two chase outings in the spring and likely needed last month's return at Wetherby. Not taken lightly. Winning French hurdler; chance on his Newcastle 2nd in March but has not run as well since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
VIA DANTE looked to be on course for a first career victory when a fall two out put an end to his chances at Newton Abbot in April. Raised 4lb for those exertions, the son of Milan returns in a contest that looks winnable and, with conditions in his favour, he can get the better of Annaharvey Lad who represents the in-form Sue Smith stable. Benny Baloo shaped with promise on his chasing bow at Newcastle last month and also warrants respect.
BENNY BALOO left the strong impression he should have finished much closer on his chasing debut at Newcastle last month and is fully expected to build on that with professional pilot Charlie Hammond now taking over in the saddle. Via Dante would have won at Newton Abbot in the spring but for departing late and is an obvious threat if returning in similar form, while Noche Negra and Annaharvey Lad are other interesting contenders in what looks a good race for the grade.
In a tricky race, ANNAHARVEY LAD is taken to make a winning chase debut with Via Dante and Benny Baloo also likely to go well.

1st (3) (11/4 +66%) Margaret's Legacy |
11/4(+66%) | (3) Margaret's Legacy 11/4, Fairly useful form over hurdles/fences in France but has yet to match that form for current yard. On the plus side, the handicapper continues to relent. Needed to run better back in a Class 4 last time to be strongly fancied for this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (5/2 -67%) Giovanni Change |
5/2(-67%) | (1) Giovanni Change 5/2, Prone to mistakes over hurdles but recorded a fourth success here in May and seemingly rejuvenated by a return to this track when second in 5-runner handicap hurdle (23.1f) last month. Back over fences now but didn't look a natural on both starts in this sphere last winter. Could go well off his lower chase mark on just his third run over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 -50%) Jigginstown King |
5/1(-50%) | (4) Jigginstown King 5/1, Returned from a summer break (had wind surgery) to complete a hat-trick over fences at Stratford in October. Found good run halted when pulled up at Hereford subsequently but was found to be suffering from an irregular heartbeat. Worth another chance. Four-timer bid came up short when pestered up front; ideally wants faster ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (4/1 +0%) Jar Du Desert |
4/1(+0%) | (2) Jar Du Desert 4/1, Showed fairly useful form over hurdles for Tom George prior to making a successful chasing debut in a 4-y-o event at Auteuil for N. George & A. Zetterholm in May. Disappointing back over hurdles for another new yard at Wetherby recently but is unexposed as a chaser. Won 4yo chase at Auteuil; returns to fences after tailed off over hurdles on British debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (9/2 -35%) Poker Master |
9/2(-35%) | (5) Poker Master 9/2, Won 3 on the bounce during 2021/22 campaign and progressed again on first 2 starts of last season, landing back-to-back 20.7f handicaps at Huntingdon. Not so good final 2 starts last season but has returned this autumn with a couple of good placed efforts. Player if transfering that form to fences. Five-time hurdle winner on a competitive mark should he take to fences. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
This can go the way of GIOVANNI CHANGE, who ran an excellent race over hurdles here last month when second over further. Mark Walford's charge has only had two previous attempts over fences, so remains unexposed in this sphere and, as a four-time course winner, he should relish a return to this venue. Successful on three of his last four starts, Jigginstown King is a leading player, along with Poker Master, who makes his chase debut and should be suited by dropping in trip.
JAR DU DESERT looks nicely treated back over fences judged on his chasing debut win at Auteuil in May so he's the obvious choice. Jigginstown King was found to be suffering from an irregular heartbeat at Hereford on his most recent outing and can be given another chance based on his previous progress in this sphere.
It's hard to be confident about any of the five. GIOVANNI CHANGE is a reliable proposition around here over hurdles and gets preference.

1st (11) (13/8 +46%) Major Fortune |
13/8(+46%) | (11) Major Fortune 13/8, Placed both starts in bumpers and encouraging signs over hurdles for present yard, particularly on last month's handicap debut at Exeter (16.7f, soft) where he was the subject of a gamble but not much went his way. Moving back up in trip could be a good move and he remains capable of better. Improved form on handicap debut in a strong race at Exeter; bred to stay; contender.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (13/2 +19%) Captain Jack |
13/2(+19%) | (6) Captain Jack 13/2, Record stands at 0-19 in this sphere but he has been placed on several occasions, including when third of 9 on his return at this course (18.6f, good) 3 months ago. Has since switched yards and forecast slower ground here won't be an issue, so he enters calculations. 0-18; some fair form including last time; back after a break on stable debut; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/2 +18%) Celtic Fortune |
9/2(+18%) | (4) Celtic Fortune 9/2, Lightly-raced maiden who ran up to his best returning from 6 months off when a close third of 9 at Huntingdon (20.7f, good to soft) 6 weeks ago. First-time cheekpieces applied and one to consider if building on that effort. Improved form when third in two handicaps this term; cheekpieces tried; one with a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (20/1 -43%) Ismael |
20/1(-43%) | (7) Ismael 20/1, Efforts under Rules so far have not been overly inspiring, but this 5-y-o was an easy winner of an Irish maiden point and is worth a second look in the betting now pitched into a handicap. Irish point winner; fair third of four in May; poor since; more needed on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (16/1 -14%) Rhodia |
16/1(-14%) | (8) Rhodia 16/1, Runner-up on 2 of his 4 starts in bumpers but not gone on from initial promise over hurdles, only sixth of 9 at this course (18.6f, good to soft) in September. Undergone wind surgery ahead of this. Some fair form; not at his best this term; may do better back from a break after wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (12/1 +0%) The Scorpion King |
12/1(+0%) | (1) The Scorpion King 12/1, Runner-up on second of his 2 starts in bumpers and back on track following a tame handicap debut when fourth of 12 in a first-time tongue strap at Chepstow (19.4f, soft) in October. Looked none too keen at Ludlow subsequently though, so needs treating with caution. Headgear applied. 0-8; fair fourth two runs back; pulled up latest; cheekpieces now tried; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (9/1 -20%) Rajjamataz |
9/1(-20%) | (2) Rajjamataz 9/1, Good second on 19.5f Chepstow handicap debut in April. In nothing like the same form on Carlisle reappearance (raced on unfavoured inner) but shaped as if back in form when fifth at Lingfield last month, looking as likely as any to put it up to the favourite for a long way. Back down in trip. Best form when 2nd on final start last term; not nearly so good this season; bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (25/1 -150%) Living's Boy An Co |
25/1(-150%) | (9) Living's Boy An Co 25/1, Off the mark in emphatic fashion over fences at this track in October 2022 but not much to write home on his next 4 starts (including over hurdles). However, he got close to the pick of his hurdles form when fourth at Carlisle (19.3f, heavy) recently and he could well step up on that here. Chase winner here; some fair form over hurdles including last time; well treated; possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (40/1 +20%) Smart Connection |
40/1(+20%) | (10) Smart Connection 40/1, After a run on the Flat, left his previous hurdles form behind when causing an 80/1 upset in handicap at Cartmel (22.1f) in August. Unsurprisingly failed to add to that a further 11 weeks on here (23.1f, good to soft) last month and looks an easy swerve given his profile. Cartmel winner in August (2m6f) and fair run here only start since; could go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (5/1 +33%) Tara Brooch |
5/1(+33%) | (12) Tara Brooch 5/1, Leaves the impression there is a bigger effort in her, again looking all about stamina when runner-up at this track (23.1f, good) back in June. Solid each-way claims provided she's ready to roll. Good second over 2m7f here on latest start (June) and should go well back from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (100/1 +0%) Deja Rouge |
100/1(+0%) | (5) Deja Rouge 100/1, Regressive form for Gordon Elliott and he has offered little on all 4 runs for current yard. Had wind op and cheekpieces now tried. Ex-Irish; poor efforts this term; first-time cheekpieces on first run after wind surgery. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
TARA BROOCH filled the runner-up berth over this C&D when last seen in June and, if ready to roll after a break, he looks a leading player today off the same mark. Celtic Fortune ran a career-best when a close third at Huntingdon last month and is only 1lb higher today, while Major Fortune and Scorpion King are entitled be thereabouts as well.
Plenty in with a squeak but it could be worth siding with MAJOR FORTUNE, who failed to reward his supporters when gambled on at Exeter last month but Dan Skelton's 5-y-o warrants another chance given not much went right for him that day. Second choice is Nickelforce, who looked the main threat to the winner for much of the way at Doncaster last month, with Celtic Fortune and Living's Boy An Co also fancied to go well.
Unexposed MAJOR FORTUNE (nap) makes plenty of appeal, having finished a decent fifth in a strong race at Exeter last time.

1st (2) (22/1 +0%) Landen Calling |
22/1(+0%) | (2) Landen Calling 22/1, Largely progressive over hurdles and run out a facile winner on chase debut at Bangor (3m) in May. Runner-up next 2 starts in small-field contests and possibly unsuited by a return to testing ground after 4 months off at Exeter last month. Stamina to prove. Below par last time but entitled to run better here should the ground dry out (good ideal). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (25/1 -213%) Crosspark |
25/1(-213%) | (1) Crosspark 25/1, Been a cracking servant over the years and ended a long losing run from a mark 17 lb lower than when last seen in a handicap in veterans event at Huntingdon on return 6 weeks ago. 5 lb rise seems fair enough and not taken lightly. Recent Huntingdon winner (2m7f) who knows what these staying chases are all about. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (4/1 -14%) Animal |
4/1(-14%) | (6) Animal 4/1, Won at Kempton in March and excellent start to this season, runner-up at Leicester on return before career-best win at Sandown 18 days ago. Shapes as though he'll stay this far and needs considering. 4lb rise for 3m Sandown win seems very fair and he's unexposed as a thorough stayer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (15/8 +58%) O'Connell |
15/8(+58%) | (9) O'Connell 15/8, Winning Irish pointer who's getting the hang of things under Rules now, off the mark in 5-runner handicap chase at this course (23.9f, heavy) 19 days ago, travelling strongly. Big player if seeing out the trip. Recent course winner; still has low mileage and he looks a chaser on the upgrade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (11/2 -57%) Inis Oirr |
11/2(-57%) | (4) Inis Oirr 11/2, Came good at fourth attempt over hurdles in February, landing a class 2 novice at Musselburgh (23.8f). Better with each start over fences this season, good second at same track last month, faring best of those held up. Headgear on and will stay. Likely to go well. Gives the impression that a thorough stamina test will suit and now goes in cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (5/1 +38%) Concetto |
5/1(+38%) | (8) Concetto 5/1, Well held hurdling runs but proved a totally different proposition sent chasing, scoring on handicap debut at Huntingdon before following up at Musselburgh. Well held on reappearance but better since, not seen to best effect when creditable fourth of 10 at Musselburgh (23.6f, soft) last month. Capable of winning races off this mark and perhaps he needs this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (33/1 -50%) Organdi |
33/1(-50%) | (3) Organdi 33/1, Veteran mare who took advantage of a good opportunity at Fontwell in September before unsuited by conditions at Wincanton. Likely to find this too competitive, however. Hard to know what to expect but she's capable on her day. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (40/1 -186%) Keep Wondering |
40/1(-186%) | (7) Keep Wondering 40/1, Fairly useful winning chaser for Philip Hobbs who shaped encouragingly when fourth in a Carlisle novice hurdle on debut for new yard on return, staying on run-in. However, disappointed back in a handicap next time so needs to bounce back on return to chasing (headgear/tongue tie reapplied). He was worryingly laboured last time, even if that was over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (10/1 +9%) Geryville |
10/1(+9%) | (5) Geryville 10/1, Winless last season but he kept his form well and resumed with a solid fourth in handicap chase at Sedgefield (29f) in October. Much respected once more. Modest strike-rate but he was second in this 12 months ago off just 2lb lower. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (12/1 -60%) Had To Be Hugo |
12/1(-60%) | (10) Had To Be Hugo 12/1, Runner-up sole outing in points and has made the frame all 7 starts under Rules, including on chase bow at Kelso on return/penultimate start. Open to progress back in this sphere. Change of headgear. Ran okay on his chase debut but even so his lack of experience over fences is a concern. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ANIMAL has had an excellent start to this season and his most recent victory at Sandown appeals as the strongest form on offer. A 4lb rise for that success may not halt him and the step up in trip may bring about further improvement, with recent easy course winner O'connell looking best placed to chase him home for his in-form connections. Inis Oirr bounced back to form with a strong runner-up effort at Musselburgh last month and also enters calculations.
INIS OIRR did well under the circumstances when runner-up at Musselburgh last month, faring best of those from off the pace in a slowly-run affair, and he's likely to have more to offer in this sphere after just 3 runs. He gets the vote in what looks a competitive affair, with Animal and O'Connell heading the dangers.
The 7yo O'CONNELL won a weaker race last time but his jumping is improving with experience and he looks a chaser with more to offer.

1st (4) (4/1 +20%) Welsh Charger |
4/1(+20%) | (4) Welsh Charger 4/1, Creditable fourth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Huntingdon (15.8f, good) on recent reappearance. Good chance he will come on for that outing and holds leading claims upped slightly in trip. Two novice hurdle wins last season and reappeared with encouraging handicap 4th; respected. |

2nd (7) (13/2 +46%) Gilbertina |
13/2(+46%) | (7) Gilbertina 13/2, Caused a 40/1 shock when winning this race last year. Not much joy since, but slightly lower in the weights now and should come for reappearance run. Runs off a mark 1lb lower than when winning this last year; can't be ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/2 +0%) Hidden Beauty |
9/2(+0%) | (2) Hidden Beauty 9/2, Scored at Doncaster in January and looks sure to come on for recent reappearance. Step up in trip will suit and not without a chance for in-form yard. Could improve for comeback run and this unexposed mare may have potential off current mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (11/2 -57%) Spitalfield |
11/2(-57%) | (5) Spitalfield 11/2, Unexposed hurdler who improved last time despite again not proving a fluent jumper. Has scope for a lot better still if ironing out his faults and merits plenty of respect on handicap debut. The step back up in trip should suit on handicap debut; could play a leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (18/1 -64%) Gms Prince |
18/1(-64%) | (9) Gms Prince 18/1, Fair form over hurdles and not disgraced back from a long absence when fourth at Stratford. Needs to prove he can build on that. Fair fourth at Stratford in October when back from long absence; possible improver. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (12/1 -33%) Great Ocean |
12/1(-33%) | (3) Great Ocean 12/1, Looked as good as ever when taking 13-runner handicap hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, good, 4/1) last month. Poor effort on heavy ground since so needs to bounce back. Won at Hereford last month and heavy ground may have been too much at Wincanton since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (7/1 +22%) Borodale |
7/1(+22%) | (6) Borodale 7/1, Modest form to date over hurdles, not seeing his race out that well last time, so fair bit more required now switching to a handicap and upped in trip. Improvement needed on handicap debut but he has a useful pedigree and yard is going well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (18/1 -50%) Iorens |
18/1(-50%) | (8) Iorens 18/1, Has shown fair form over hurdles, but rather tailed off last season and has plenty to prove after recent tame reappearance. Things may click again at some point but she's struggled in her three handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (5/1 -50%) Decorated |
5/1(-50%) | (1) Decorated 5/1, Bumper winner who progressed well over hurdles last term, twice making all. Stepped up markedly on return when runner-up at Taunton last time, but may need further now. Back to form when runner-up at Taunton last month and can make another bold bid. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
DECORATED was no match for a decent sort of Nicky Henderson's at Taunton last month, but that was his best effort since wind surgery and he may be able to go one better now in calmer waters. A winner of two of his last four starts, the son of Nathaniel looks well capable of seeing off the likes of Great Ocean and Welsh Charger, who should be well suited by the extra few furlongs in trip. Handicap debutant Spitalfield can also have a say in proceedings.
WELSH CHARGER made a pleasing start to life in handicaps on his recent reappearance and can come out on top at the expense of Spitalfield, who is open to the most improvement if brushing up his jumping, and Hidden Beauty.
The unexposed 5yo WELSH CHARGER is open to improvement now up in distance in his second handicap and is preferred over Decorated.
Ths is the racecard key.
