1st (10) (5/6 +72%) Norman Fletcher |
5/6(+72%) | (10) Norman Fletcher 5/6, Made it 2 wins from 4 starts in bumpers with an improved effort at Ludlow in April. 1/4, close up when fell heavily 3 out in novice at Huntingdon on hurdles bow last month and jumped none too fluently/awkwardly at times when runner-up at former track 9 days later. Remains capable of better. Dual bumper scorer; runner-up over hurdles at Ludlow last time; has the best form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (15) (33/1 -230%) Viva Valentina |
33/1(-230%) | (15) Viva Valentina 33/1, €82,000 3-y-o, Masked Marvel mare who shaped as if amiss when tailed-off last in bumper (9/4) at Wetherby (16f, soft) 7 months ago (breathing problem). No surprise that she's had a wind op since (also tongue tied here) and would be folly to discount for a top stable. Made a respiratory noise in sole bumper run; had wind surgery since; should do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/2 +36%) Dr Seb |
9/2(+36%) | (6) Dr Seb 9/2, Rather green in 2 bumpers and showed promise sent hurdling when runner-up at Huntingdon (15.8f, good) when last seen in March 2022. Not seen since, but he's in top hands and should improve. Still unexposed; represents last year's winning connections; interesting back from layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (125/1 -150%) Ronaldoreturns |
125/1(-150%) | (13) Ronaldoreturns 125/1, Iffraaj gelding. Dam, ran twice on Flat, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 2½m) Niblawi. Well held in point bumper (Mar 2022). Absent since his modest effort in point bumper in March 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (9/4 -147%) Fierce Warrior |
9/4(-147%) | (7) Fierce Warrior 9/4, Sholokhov gelding who left debut form behind as he got off the mark in 8-runner bumper at Worcester (16f, good to soft) 6 months ago. Lots to like now sent hurdling for a top yard. Has apparently strengthened up considerably since winning bumper at Worcester; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (33/1 +18%) Bitsnbuckles |
33/1(+18%) | (2) Bitsnbuckles 33/1, Runner-up in a point and having finished well held in a bumper for Michael C. Griffin in May, has failed to land a blow in a couple of novice hurdles for this yard recently. Looks one for handicaps later down the line. Well beaten in three rules starts; handicaps more suitable shortly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (25/1 +0%) Daaris |
25/1(+0%) | (5) Daaris 25/1, Fair handicapper on Flat, stays 1¾m, seemingly stretched by the trip under such testing conditions last time. Headgear left off for hurdling debut. Ordinary handicapper on Flat; has limited potential for this game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (14) (40/1 +0%) Rumoursareflying |
40/1(+0%) | (14) Rumoursareflying 40/1, From a family connections know well but showed only poor form in a brace of bumpers last season. Makes hurdles bow after 9 months off and worth a second look in the betting. From a family that has served his stable well; may take a step forward now hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (300/1 -100%) Geordie Night |
300/1(-100%) | (8) Geordie Night 300/1, Half-brother to numerous winners but very little encouragement to be gleaned from both outings in bumpers. Makes hurdles bow after 9 months off and it's easy to look elsewhere. Soundly beaten in two bumpers last winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (66/1 -230%) Benjamin Bear |
66/1(-230%) | (1) Benjamin Bear 66/1, Fair on Flat, stays 1¼m, won in summer 2022. No impact on both outings in this sphere last winter and arrives on the back of a couple of low-key efforts on the level. Easy enough to look elsewhere. Flat winner in June 2022 but not in same form since, including over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (125/1 -213%) Cormackstown Road |
125/1(-213%) | (4) Cormackstown Road 125/1, Runner-up on completed start in points but ran to only a poor level when sixth in a Perth novice hurdle in July 2022. Off 15 months since. Absent since well held at Perth (rules debut) in July 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (12/1 +25%) Ranging Bear |
12/1(+25%) | (12) Ranging Bear 12/1, Fetched €90,000 as a 3-y-o and he made an encouraging start when seventh of 17 in novice hurdle at Wetherby (16f) in January. Lost a shoe when pulled up at Chepstow a month later and not seen since. Had a wind op in the interim and a tongue tie is applied. Had wind surgery since last run; nicely bred and looks open to improvement this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (3) (200/1 -203%) Clarehill |
200/1(-203%) | (3) Clarehill 200/1, £4,000 5-y-o, Champs Elysees gelding. Dam, chase winner in France, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/fair chaser (stayed 3m) Be Fair. Maiden Irish pointer, made frame last time (Apr 29). Not compelling judged on Irish points form; joined new yard for just £4,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (9) (125/1 -681%) Illico De Nuit |
125/1(-681%) | (9) Illico De Nuit 125/1, Gris De Gris gelding who hinted at ability before being pulled up over 2f out having lost action in a C&D bumper (good to soft) 6 months ago. Hood applied for this hurdling debut. Pulled up (lost his action) in bumper here six months ago; market can guide. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Dr Seb could be interesting here after his Huntingdon second, but that was in March 2022 and a market watch may be worthwhile ahead of his belated return to action. Norman Fletcher was a beaten favourite when second at Ludlow and if he brushes up on his hurdling then he can go well, but preference is for FIERCE WARRIOR. The winner of his second bumper when scoring at Worcester comfortably enough, he is sure to have been well-schooled at the Nicky Henderson yard ahead of his hurdles debut and represents an in-form stable.
FIERCE WARRIOR made his second start in bumpers a winning one at Worcester back in May and ticking plenty of boxes now hurdling, he can make a successful return at the expense of Norman Fletcher, who has failed to impress in the jumping department but should be capable of better still. Olly Murphy saddles 4 and his Dr Seb looks the pick of his quartet, with Viva Valentina certainly worth a second look for the Skeltons.
Norman Fletcher has the best form but FIERCE WARRIOR is a strong alternative and Dr Seb is another interesting type.

1st (10) (4/1 -7%) Southern Babylon |
4/1(-7%) | (10) Southern Babylon 4/1, 80,000 gns purchase after placing in an Irish point in May 2022 and posted encouraging second of 9 in novice at Sedgefield (16.8f, soft) on NH debut 25 days ago. Looks sure to improve, particularly over this longer trip. Runner-up on both starts (point/maiden hurdle) and she's open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (3/1 +14%) Baby Sage |
3/1(+14%) | (1) Baby Sage 3/1, Made a winning bumper debut at Warwick before disappointing in Grade 2 at Aintree Grand National meeting last term. Got no further than first on Ludlow hurdles bow last month but remains a good prospect in this sphere. Impressive on bumper debut; things haven't gone to plan since but she retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (12/1 -50%) Stuti |
12/1(-50%) | (11) Stuti 12/1, Built on promising bumper debut when winning a Southwell mares' event in April and backed that up with solid fourth under a penalty at Plumpton 11 days later. Respected on switch to hurdling. Bumper winner; every chance she'll stay this far and she could be a contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (20/1 -43%) Bethka |
20/1(-43%) | (2) Bethka 20/1, Showed fair form when placed twice from 3 starts in bumpers and shaped as if needing the run when sixth of 13 in novice at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy, 14/1) on hurdles bow 34 days ago. Likely improver. Displayed ability in bumpers but she needs to improve a bundle for her hurdle debut outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (20/1 -167%) Ici La Reine |
20/1(-167%) | (7) Ici La Reine 20/1, Comfortable winner of her first two starts in bumpers, both coming at Newcastle earlier this year. Ran no sort of race upped in grade at Aintree next time but remains with potential on debut over timber. Won two bumpers on Newcastle AW and entitled to respect on this hurdle and seasonal debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (7/1 +56%) Dairylane Daisy |
7/1(+56%) | (4) Dairylane Daisy 7/1, €13,000 3-y-o, £30,000 5-y-o, Kalanisi mare. Sister to fair hurdle/fairly useful chase winner Daphne Moon, and half-sister to fair hurdler Mulberry Hill. Won sole start in Irish points earlier this year and is worth monitoring in market on NH debut. Point winner who is one of two runners for the stable; the betting could be informative. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (10/1 +29%) Scarlet O'tara |
10/1(+29%) | (9) Scarlet O'tara 10/1, Built on debut effort when making the frame in bumpers at Musselburgh and Fakenham towards the end of last season. Shaped as if this longer trip would suit and could be a player on hurdles bow. Made the frame in two bumpers and bred to be suited by this longer trip on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (8/1 -14%) Faha Belle |
8/1(-14%) | (6) Faha Belle 8/1, Winning pointer who showed a fair level of ability in bumpers 5 months apart. In the process of running well on Ludlow hurdles bow last month when running out (jockey initially took wrong course) approaching straight. Enters calculations. Point winner; not her fault when running out on hurdle debut; not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (33/1 +18%) Jersey Gem |
33/1(+18%) | (12) Jersey Gem 33/1, Showed a bit on her second outing in bumpers (for Oliver Sherwood) last spring but finished well held on yard/hurdling debut at Chepstow last month. Fair third in a bumper but tailed off on last month's hurdle and stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (150/1 -50%) Cotoneaster |
150/1(-50%) | (3) Cotoneaster 150/1, Offered more than on debut when fifth of 14 in bumper at Southwell (15.8f, good to soft, 150/1) 6 months ago. More needed upped in trip on return/hurdles bow here, though. Showed promise in her second bumper and the step up in trip could suit on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (25/1 -79%) Easy On Me |
25/1(-79%) | (5) Easy On Me 25/1, €30,000 3-y-o, £37,000 4-y-o, Valirann mare. Half-sister to 6 winners, including smart hurdler/fairly useful chaser Lovcen and 2¼m French hurdle winner Lady Ming. Dam unraced. Placed in points last year and warrants respect on NH debut for yard amongst winners. Absent since runner-up in a point in April 2022; makes rules debut with yard in good form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) (25/1 -127%) Love Bite |
25/1(-127%) | (8) Love Bite 25/1, Well related and in top hands but showed little in a brace of bumpers and needs to improve on form of sole completed start in this sphere at Southwell in June. Has an illustrious pedigree and is with a leading trainer, but she's yet to shine. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (13) (5/1 +29%) Time In The Sun |
5/1(+29%) | (13) Time In The Sun 5/1, Came close to opening account at second attempt in bumpers last spring and posted good fourth of 16 in novice (17/2) at Ludlow (21.2f, soft) on hurdles bow last month. Likely more to come yet. Fair fourth on hurdle debut at Ludlow and she's open to improvement; not discounted. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Dairylane Daisy won her only point-to-point at Oldcastle and has to be of some interest ahead of her first start under Rules, as do Ludlow fourth Time In The Sun and Sedgefield second Southern Babylon, but a chance is taken on LOVE BITE. A sister to the decent Beat That, Nicky Henderson's mare has always been held in high regard at Seven Barrows, but she is yet to reward that faith on the track with a poor sixth at Southwell last time out. Off since June, she returns fresh and this may be the season she finally makes her mark.
There should be more to come from SOUTHERN BABYLON, who made a promising start in this discipline at Sedgefield last month. She gets the nod. Time In the Sun and Faha Belle head the list of dangers in what looks a competitive contest.
3m point winner SOUTHERN BABYLON kept on well for a promising second over 2m1f at Sedgefield and is taken to go one better.

1st (7) (6/4 +40%) Picks Lad |
6/4(+40%) | (7) Picks Lad 6/4, Bumper winner who took a big step forward upped to 3m when landing handicap hurdle at Taunton in April for Kim Bailey (awarded race having been bumped on home turn). Sort to do better over fences so he's interesting on his return for new yard. Won sole handicap hurdle start and makes chase debut with new yard in fine form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (20/1 -82%) O'connell |
20/1(-82%) | (9) O'connell 20/1, Winning Irish pointer who has shown promise over hurdles and fences for his current yard. Fell 2nd at Wetherby last time but he can't be discounted. Early faller 12 days ago but has potential at this trip if posting a clear round. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/1 -82%) Sure Touch |
5/1(-82%) | (1) Sure Touch 5/1, Had a productive 2022 over hurdles, winning 4 times, and he shaped well on his chase debut when second of 4 in handicap at Ludlow (20f, good) 36 days ago, just failing. Tongue strap back on and since had a wind op. Leading claims. Went close on chase debut at Ludlow and open to improvement in this sphere; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (20/1 -11%) Grand Roi |
20/1(-11%) | (3) Grand Roi 20/1, Disappointing on his second stint chasing this season, including for current yard, and came in a hollow third of six at Stratford last time. Visor on 1st time. Others appeal more. Has tumbled down the weights but but he's struggled to get competitive this autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (5/1 -25%) Riskintheground |
5/1(-25%) | (4) Riskintheground 5/1, Showed fair winning form over hurdles last season and shaped encouragingly when third of 7 in handicap chase at Kempton (24f, good) 25 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Can make presence felt. Promising third at Kempton last time and is in good hands to continue to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (9/1 +25%) Shighness |
9/1(+25%) | (6) Shighness 9/1, Consistent performer over hurdles last term, winning twice at Market Rasen (23.1f), and given a considerate introduction to chasing after 7 months off when fourth of 7 in novice at Carlisle (20f, soft) 21 days ago. Can step forward now. Two handicap hurdle wins here; could go well now back here on her second chase start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (13/2 +28%) Brianna Rose |
13/2(+28%) | (8) Brianna Rose 13/2, Consistent hurdler who has taken well to chasing, scoring in a match at Uttoxeter before runner-up in handicap chase at Newton Abbot (25.8f, good to soft) 116 days ago. In the picture. Showed promise in May/July in first two chases and she's not discounted back from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (16/1 +0%) Swapped |
16/1(+0%) | (2) Swapped 16/1, Bumper winner who completed his chasing hat-trick with a commanding performance on debut for this yard at Southwell (25.8f) in September. Pulled up at Cheltenham last time but sort to bounce back in these calmer waters. In fine form prior to Cheltenham last time; reverts to calmer waters and could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (20/1 +0%) Bold Soldier |
20/1(+0%) | (5) Bold Soldier 20/1, Arrived on the up but tongue tied and came in last of 4 on his handicap hurdles debut at Market Rasen (23.1f, heavy) 18 days ago. Still low mileage so he shouldn't be written off yet now going over fences. Struggled on final 2 hurdle runs but a break may have helped; point runner-up; chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Picks Lad could be interesting on his first start for Harry Derham after being awarded the race at Taunton over hurdles last time out. He could go well if he takes to fences, but he may struggle to cope with SURE TOUCH, whose neck second at Ludlow last month gives him a potential race-fitness advantage. He has also had wind surgery which may bring about further improvement and, if that is the case, top-weight may not anchor him. Swapped is hard to ignore with three wins over fences already and he may better Brianna Rose in the race for third.
A few with chances but multiple hurdles winner SURE TOUCH failed only narrowly to make a winning chase debut at Ludlow and can build on it here at the chief expense of Riskintheground who also made a positive start over fences at Kempton and seems sure to be in the mix. Fencing newcomer Picks Lad commands plenty of respect too along with Shighness in an intriguing handicap.
Two-time course hurdles winner SHIGHNESS earns the vote now back here and back in a handicap on her second chase start.

1st (10) (4/1 +50%) Caro Des Flos |
4/1(+50%) | (10) Caro Des Flos 4/1, Hasn't won for a while but offered more encouragement when third in a handicap chase at Ludlow 3 weeks ago. Could build on that back under a fully-fledged jockey. 11yo who has a poor strike-rate but he went close in this race 12 months ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (16/1 -33%) Da Vinci Hand |
16/1(-33%) | (5) Da Vinci Hand 16/1, Has lost way completely this season and is hard to fancy despite the fitting of a tongue tie after 5 months off. His mark continues to fall but it's a long time since he's been competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (20/1 -135%) Mackie Dee |
20/1(-135%) | (7) Mackie Dee 20/1, Modest handicap hurdler/chaser who was below form when last seen 16 months ago. Hard to know how much ability he retains after such a long absence. Hurdle/chase winner who runs off last winning mark but this 11yo has long absence to defy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/2 +25%) Rosearelli |
9/2(+25%) | (1) Rosearelli 9/2, Course winner. Unseated rider in handicap chase (9/2) at Ffos Las (21.5f, good to soft) 32 days ago. Yet to fire for current stable but can't be written off. Early unseat last month but this two-time chase winner could go well granted a clear round. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (11/2 -22%) Henry Gray |
11/2(-22%) | (2) Henry Gray 11/2, Just modest form at best in a trio of hurdling outings but he's a point winner in good hands, so makes plenty of appeal switched to chasing/up in trip after 6 months off. Lightly raced point winner who is open to improvement now over fences on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (11/2 +66%) Bitasweetsymphony |
11/2(+66%) | (9) Bitasweetsymphony 11/2, One-time fair handicap chaser who doesn't seem to retain much ability. Hard to make a strong case for. On a much-reduced mark but he's hard to fancy on the evidence of his last few runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (9/2 -13%) Hokelami |
9/2(-13%) | (4) Hokelami 9/2, Won a Stratford selling hurdle in April (final start for Olly Murphy). Cut out a lot of the running before fading into fourth in a handicap hurdle there for new stable 3 weeks later. Goes chasing back from 6 months off. Won Stratford selling hurdle in April; could be a contender if taking to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (9/2 +44%) Harry Du Berlais |
9/2(+44%) | (3) Harry Du Berlais 9/2, Irish point winner who stepped up on promising chasing debut last spring when scoring here on return. Struggled subsequently but down the weights and stable going well, so worthy of interest back from 4 months off in a tongue strap. Won here last November but needs to get back on track now in a tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (50/1 -52%) Edmond Dantes |
50/1(-52%) | (6) Edmond Dantes 50/1, Scored here for Ruth Jefferson in February 2022 but has generally struggled since, particularly for this stable. Well handicapped on last autumn's form but has struggled on his four starts since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (100/1 -400%) Torrent Des Mottes |
100/1(-400%) | (11) Torrent Des Mottes 100/1, Limited veteran who will probably need this first run for 7 months. Fair third in April but well beaten otherwise last season and others are more compelling. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Winning pointer HENRY GRAY hasn't been devoid of promise in his three novice hurdle appearances to date and strikes as the type who could excel now making his chase/handicap bow. The seven-year-old's opening mark of 92 looks potentially lenient and the step up in distance to an extended 2m5f can only aid his cause. Although Hokelami was unable to justify favouritism when fourth on his stable debut at Stratford in April, it's too early to rule Robbie Llewellyn's charge out now tried over fences. He's feared most, ahead of Mackie Dee.
HENRY GRAY was a bit underwhelming over hurdles but he's an ex-pointer who appeals as the sort to do much better as a chaser, so he's worth taking a chance on. Harry du Berlais looks to have his optimum conditions and is feared most, while Caro des Flos is also worthy of interest.
The very lightly raced point winner HENRY GRAY is open to improvement on this chase and handicap debut. Rosearelli is a danger.

1st (1) (5/6 -4%) Galia Des Liteaux |
5/6(-4%) | (1) Galia Des Liteaux 5/6, Looked good when winning first 2 completed starts (both on heavy) over fences last term, including a Warwick Grade 2. Failed to make a meaningful impact at the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals during the spring, but she's the one to beat in this less exalted company, albeit rain wouldn't go amiss. Grade 2 novice chase winner in January; goes well fresh and holds leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (3/1 +0%) Found On |
3/1(+0%) | (4) Found On 3/1, Bagged 5 small-field handicaps last term and made it 6-11 over fences when making a winning reappearance here in September. Pulled up both previous starts in listed company (including in Bangor race won by Galia des Liteaux last November), but she's worth another chance at this level. Reappeared with 4l handicap win here and she may well be a player today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (18/1 +45%) Fairfield Ferrata |
18/1(+45%) | (3) Fairfield Ferrata 18/1, Dual hurdles winner but already better over fences, hitting the target twice in mares' handicaps last term. Positive start to this season when 4 lengths second of 12 to Found On here (21.4f, good), but meets that rival on 12 lb worse terms this time. Has a progressive profile but plenty of work to do to beat Found On based on latest clash. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (9/2 +25%) Tweed Skirt |
9/2(+25%) | (5) Tweed Skirt 9/2, Fair bumper/hurdles winner who improved when landing handicaps at Kempton and Wincanton switched to fences last season. Signed that campaign off with a creditable effort in a Cheltenham listed handicap (20.6f, good) and she merits respect, for all that more is needed. Has undergone a wind op. Improvement needed on return but she's only 6 and could appreciate this first crack at 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (16/1 -45%) Burrows Diamond |
16/1(-45%) | (2) Burrows Diamond 16/1, Resumed winning ways when taking a 7-runner handicap over 24.2f at Wetherby (soft) last December. Ended that campaign with a solid effort in defeat at Newcastle and recent Kelso reappearance will have blown away the cobwebs, but she looks vulnerable in this company. Solid campaign last term & could improve for recent comeback; no surprise to see good run. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
FOUND ON appeared freshened up by a break when scoring with something in hand here in September and, with fitness assured, Martin Keighley's mare might be able to complete a double on the switch to a Listed event. Galia Des Liteaux has some smart form at the highest level and she's likely to prove popular too. The seven-year-old isn't taken lightly and may give the selection with most to think about. Tweed Skirt could fare best of the remainder.
Much hinges on what happens weather-wise; drying ground will help FOUND ON, who produced a superb round of jumping, not to mention a career-best performance, when scoring on return here at the end of September. On that evidence she is well worth another try at this level and is taken to see off likely market leader Galia des Liteaux, who sets the standard but, in contrast to the selection, drying ground wouldn't aid her cause. Tweed Skirt is best of the rest.
Grade 2 novice chase winner GALIA DES LITEAUX goes well fresh and is the one to beat on her reappearance. Found On could go well.

15/2(+0%) | (3) Charles St 15/2, Tricky customer has finished runner-up 6 times over timber without yet registering a win. One of his lesser efforts when fifth of 9 in handicap hurdle at Ludlow (15.8f, soft, 13/2) 21 days ago. Goes back up in trip with blinkers reapplied. Below par last time but ran well previously and this step up in trip is worth a go. |

2nd (4) (9/4 +32%) Wolfspear |
9/4(+32%) | (4) Wolfspear 9/4, Won a Perth handicap in May 2022 and made light of a 16-month absence when producing a career best to double his hurdles tally in an 18-runner handicap at Exeter (18.5f, soft) 23 days ago. Leading player from 7 lb higher mark. Returned from long absence to win at Exeter last month and is open to further improvement. |

3rd (1) (9/4 -13%) Mikhailovich |
9/4(-13%) | (1) Mikhailovich 9/4, Showed promise on only one of his 4 starts last season but returned with a bang after 7 months off when bolting up at Huntingdon last month. 9 lb rise to contend with, but he looks one to keep firmly onside for an in-form yard. Easy win on good ground at Huntingdon on reappearance and a 9lb rise may not stop him. |

4th (7) (11/1 +45%) Gilbertina |
11/1(+45%) | (7) Gilbertina 11/1, Improved with a rallying success on return here on Boxing Day and good efforts at Doncaster next 2 starts. Lacklustre performances after though, and now something to prove on her first start since June. Struggled on last two starts but returned from break to win at 40-1 here last December. |

5th (2) (18/1 -177%) Eavesdropping |
18/1(-177%) | (2) Eavesdropping 18/1, Missed all of last season but arrives seeking a hat-trick after winning a Lingfield mares maiden and a Chepstow novice in spring 2022. Opening mark looks workable if retaining all ability. Returns from long layoff but won her last two and trainer can ready one after an absence. |

6th (11) (12/1 +0%) Annaharvey Lad |
12/1(+0%) | (11) Annaharvey Lad 12/1, Made the frame in 2 Irish points in spring 2021 and signs of encouragement over hurdles, not having a hard time when eighth in a novice at Wetherby 7 months ago. Type to do better now handicapping over longer trips. Lightly raced former pointer who could be suited by the step up in trip on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (10/1 +60%) Bertie B |
10/1(+60%) | (8) Bertie B 10/1, Bumper winner improved when third of 11 on handicap debut at Huntingdon (20.7f, good to soft) in February but offered little on seasonal comeback at Worcester last month. Others make more appeal. Close third on handicap debut in February and he may leave reappearance run well behind. |

8th (9) (33/1 -50%) Valence D'aumont |
33/1(-50%) | (9) Valence D'aumont 33/1, Enhanced good strike rate over fences when landing a Newcastle handicap in December 2021 but shaped as if badly needing the run on his return in a Kelso hurdle (16.2f, heavy) 19 days ago. Up in trip. This should reveal more. Tailed off at Kelso recently but market check advised on second run back from long layoff. |

9th (5) (50/1 -100%) Moon King |
50/1(-100%) | (5) Moon King 50/1, Shaped better than bare result when fourth on his most recent hurdles start back at this track in August but has struggled over fences and on the Flat both outings since. Bit to prove having since left Charlie Longsdon. Makes his stable debut on a reduced mark but his form has gone the wrong way this year. |

10th (10) (10/1 +17%) Highland Getaway |
10/1(+17%) | (10) Highland Getaway 10/1, Made the frame in maiden hurdles here and at Ffos Las but struggled to make an impact from a 3 lb higher mark sent handicapping at Warwick in December. Remains low mileage and may fare better after 10 months off. Tailed off on handicap debut last December but very lightly raced; watch the betting. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MIKHAILOVICH went clear after the last to secure victory by over nine lengths at Huntingdon last month and he was hit with a 9lb rise for that effort. The son of Sholokhov was returning from a 196-day break on that occasion and he could come on further for that run, which makes him very much the one to beat. The main threat could be Wolfspear, who returned from a long absence to win nicely at Exeter and he would be foolish to dismiss off a 7lb higher rating. Eavesdropping warrants a market check on her return to action.
MIKHAILOVICH produced a much-improved performance to make a winning return at Huntingdon and he's fancied to follow up from a 9 lb higher mark. Wolfspear also made a winning return after more than a year off at Exeter last time and is feared most, whilst Annaharvey Lad looks open to progress now handicapping.
Having returned from a long absence with a win in a big field at Exeter last month, the unexposed 7yo WOLFSPEAR is taken to follow up.

1st (8) (15/8 +58%) General Hubble |
15/8(+58%) | (8) General Hubble 15/8, Little impact in maiden/novice hurdles but, in first-time cheekpieces, took a step forward when fourth of 6 on handicap debut at this course (20.6f) in March. Could do better still as he goes up in trip on his reappearance. Lightly raced 5yo who is from in-form yard and there's stamina in pedigree; not discounted. |

2nd (4) (4/1 +33%) Diamond Twin |
4/1(+33%) | (4) Diamond Twin 4/1, Fared better than previously when fifth of 8 maiden at Warwick (19f) when last seen in April. Tongue tie now applied and he could have more to offer as he goes up in trip for handicap debut. Yet to threaten but in top hands & no surprise if this h'cap newcomer plays a leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (12/1 +52%) Poppop |
12/1(+52%) | (7) Poppop 12/1, No better than mid-division in Southwell bumpers 2 years apart and hasn't found any improvement switched to hurdling this season, though made a big move into contention before fading when sixth at Uttoxeter (19.9f) in August. Others preferred. Respectable sixth on handicap debut at Uttoxeter; needs to build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (3/1 -84%) Masterdream |
3/1(-84%) | (2) Masterdream 3/1, Dual winner at Worcester (20f) last year and successful on the Flat at Ffos Las (2m) in July. Upped in trip on his return to hurdling, produced his best effort in this sphere when scoring comfortably at Hereford (25.5f) 10 days ago. Leading contender. Did it nicely at Hereford last Monday and he escapes a penalty; strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (20/1 -67%) Howzat Hiris |
20/1(-67%) | (9) Howzat Hiris 20/1, Had been struggling for form last season but got back on track with cheekpieces fitted, opening her account in Newcastle handicap (23.7f) in March. However, did too much too soon when pulled up at the same C&D next time and headgear is left off on her return. Some good form towards end of last season and she's not ruled out on her return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (50/1 -127%) Smart Connection |
50/1(-127%) | (6) Smart Connection 50/1, After a run on the Flat, left his previous hurdles form behind when causing an 80/1 upset in handicap at Cartmel (22.1f) in August, edging ahead close home. Task is now to build on that. 80-1 win at Cartmel in August; now needs to prove that performance was no one-off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (22/1 +12%) Oliver's Island |
22/1(+12%) | (10) Oliver's Island 22/1, Returned to winning ways with a narrow success at this C&D in December but not in the same form both starts since. Has edged back down in the weights at least, so he's capable of getting involved if ready to go after 9 months off. A break may have helped and he won off this mark over C&D last December; not discounted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (17/2 -42%) Dynamic Kate |
17/2(-42%) | (1) Dynamic Kate 17/2, Back to best following another wind op when successful at Worcester (23f) in August and similar form in defeat since, found to have been struck into when fourth at Stratford (22f) last month. Can give another good account. Won at Worcester in August and has continued in pretty good form since; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (10/1 +50%) Aire Valley Lad |
10/1(+50%) | (3) Aire Valley Lad 10/1, Belatedly opened chase account at Wetherby (24.2f) in December. However, ended last season out of form and has finished down the field back over hurdles on his last 2 starts, though probably needed the run after 5 months off at Sedgefield last time. Has dropped down the weights and a market check is advised but a return to form is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|DQ| (11) (40/1 +20%) Dr Lockdown |
40/1(+20%) | (11) Dr Lockdown 40/1, Maiden pointer who showed little in his 4 outings last season. After 6 months off and with cheekpieces applied, pulled up on handicap debut at Perth in September, though hinted at ability before dropping away 3 out. Has work to do from out of the weights. Lightly raced but considerable improvement is needed to win this from 7lb out of handicap. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Smart Connection produced a shock at 80/1 when getting up to score by a neck over 2m6f at Cartmel in August and he is an interesting contender off a 2lb higher rating. However, he may have to give best to MASTERDREAM, who did it very nicely when scoring by over five lengths at Hereford earlier in the month and he escapes a penalty for that conditional jockeys' handicap victory. High Grounds can fight it out for the minor honours, as he goes in first-time cheekpieces.
Upped in trip, MASTERDREAM showed improved form back over hurdles when landing a conditionals/amateurs event at Hereford 10 days ago and he can follow up racing off the same mark. Diamond Twin could be the main danger as he goes up in trip for his handicap debut, with Dynamic Kate completing the shortlist.
Last week's Hereford scorer MASTERDREAM (nap) escapes a penalty and he'll take plenty of beating if in the same form here.
Ths is the racecard key.
