2.5/1(+9%) | (4) Zara's Universe 2.5/1, Winless after 22 runs but comes here on the back of an excellent third of 7 in handicap chase over C&D (soft) 17 days ago. Considered off an unchanged mark.

4/1(+11%) | (3) Izzy's Champion 4/1, All 3 career wins have been gained over fences at Musselburgh. Patchy form this season, turning in one of his better efforts when third of 8 in handicap chase there (20.3f, soft) 128 days ago. Others appeal more.

18/1(+10%) | (5) Torrent Des Mottes 18/1, Fifteen runs since last win in 2021. Well-held fourth of 6 in handicap chase here (19.2f, good to soft) 36 days ago so others are preferred.

1st (7) (1.25/1 +64%) Superstylin |
1.25/1(+64%) | (7) Superstylin 1.25/1, Irish point winner who stepped up on his previous efforts in this sphere when second on his handicap debut at Lingfield. Shaped as if still in good form when third at Southwell since, so must enter the reckoning.
2nd (5) (7/1 -17%) Starvoski |
7/1(-17%) | (5) Starvoski 7/1, Returned to form to land a modest race back over hurdles at Uttoxeter on final outing last season and, after 8 months off, made more impact than previously over fences when fourth of 11 at Ffos Las in November. However, has gone the wrong way since (over hurdles last time). Visor on first time.
3rd (4) (3.6/1 -80%) Dickens |
3.6/1(-80%) | (4) Dickens 3.6/1, Fairly useful dual Flat winner. Yet to get near that level over hurdles, though did show a bit more than previously when fifth of 12 in a Ludlow novice (15.8f) last time, despite again pulling hard. Into a handicap now and may improve again. Appealing.
4th (3) (14/1 +44%) Dakota Moirette |
14/1(+44%) | (3) Dakota Moirette 14/1, Punchestown maiden hurdle success for Gordon Elliott back in December 2016 remains his sole victory from 40 starts under Rules. Others preferred despite tumbling mark.
5th (6) (18/1 -50%) Wilhelm Vonvenster |
18/1(-50%) | (6) Wilhelm Vonvenster 18/1, Gained his breakthrough win at Sedgefield in November 2021, but has largely been out of sorts since, including this season. On the upside, his stable is in rude health and his mark has fallen further.
6th (1) (3.33/1 -21%) Gift Of Raaj |
3.33/1(-21%) | (1) Gift Of Raaj 3.33/1, Fair handicapper on Flat who showed aptitude for hurdling at the first attempt despite coming to it late in his career when third in a Wetherby maiden in January. Dictated when off the mark in 4-runner event at Doncaster next time and opening mark looks fair on this quick switch to a handicap. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A chance is taken on the Alan King-trained DICKENS, a 77-rated Flat horse who makes his handicap debut off what looks a fair opening mark in this sphere. Gift Of Raaj made all to win a small-field affair at Doncaster last month and is also noted, while you can make a good case for Superstylin too. The former point-to-point winner has a light weight to carry and shaped with a bit of promise at Lingfield two starts ago.
DICKENS starts out in handicaps from a potentially lenient opening mark judged on his Flat ability and could be the way to go. Gift of Raaj merits respect having made all at Doncaster 7 weeks ago.
Dickens will go well if the ground doesn't catch him out but this might be the chance for SUPERSTYLIN to gain a first hurdles win.

1st (2) (3/1 +10%) Broadway Boy |
3/1(+10%) | (2) Broadway Boy 3/1, Low-mileage 5-y-o who proved well suited by step up in trip when making winning handicap debut at Aintree (24.7f) in December. Similar form when fourth at Exeter (23f) last month and unseated early at Haydock a week ago. Could resume winning ways.
2nd (4) (4/1 +0%) Jubilee Express |
4/1(+0%) | (4) Jubilee Express 4/1, Made a winning hurdle bow in Hereford novice (19.5f) in March. Very good second under a penalty on return at Lingfield (19.5f) in November and longer trip/switch to handicaps should yield further progress.
3rd (6) (5/1 +23%) Shighness |
5/1(+23%) | (6) Shighness 5/1, Has scored twice over C&D this season and was far from discredited when fourth here 17 days ago. Should be thereabouts again.
4th (3) (2.25/1 -13%) Halondo |
2.25/1(-13%) | (3) Halondo 2.25/1, Fair in bumpers and going the right way over hurdles, scoring with something to spare here 17 days ago. May do better still upped in trip, so boasts solid claims.
5th (1) (12/1 -33%) Everything'Sontick |
12/1(-33%) | (1) Everything'Sontick 12/1, Won a 19.5f Chepstow maiden hurdle in January. Solid efforts both starts since and, while he should make a better chaser when the time comes, he's still a player in this sphere.
6th (5) (7.5/1 +17%) Storm Dennis |
7.5/1(+17%) | (5) Storm Dennis 7.5/1, On the up at the beginning of 2022, winning handicaps at Huntingdon and Kempton. Last of 5 on chase debut/reappearance in October but proved he retains plenty of ability when sixth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Kempton (21f, soft) in December and figures off a handy mark. |

1st (3) (4/1 -33%) Ghasham |
4/1(-33%) | (3) Ghasham 4/1, Fairly useful winner at best on the Flat for Joseph O'Brien, but below that level over hurdles for this yard. Now tried in a tongue strap and interesting to see if he attracts any support.
2nd (2) (3/1 +33%) Awesome Foursome |
3/1(+33%) | (2) Awesome Foursome 3/1, Made a winning bumper debut at Worcester in May but yet to match that form over hurdles. Need to up his game after a couple of months off.

12/1(+33%) | (6) Black Lightning 12/1, Won over C&D and at Fontwell in the first half of 2021/22 campaign. Largely struggled since but has had a break and return to this track could help.
4th (4) (4/1 -14%) General Hubble |
4/1(-14%) | (4) General Hubble 4/1, Failed to trouble the judge on 3 hurdling outings to date but he is bred to do better and no surprise if he ups his game now switched to handicaps.
5th (1) (18/1 +0%) Family Time |
18/1(+0%) | (1) Family Time 18/1, Promise in juvenile hurdles last term but disappointed in 2 handicaps in June. Down 7 lb back from 9 months off.
6th (5) (2/1 -23%) Shiyrvann |
2/1(-23%) | (5) Shiyrvann 2/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 9/1, very good second of 16 in handicap hurdle at Southwell (20.4f, good to soft) 23 days ago. Solid proposition in a weak race. |

6/1(-33%) | (8) The Kalooki Kid 6/1, €40,000 Gentlewave gelding who shaped promisingly behind a useful one with experience when second at Ayr (16f, good to soft) back in October. Slightly concerning he's not been seen since but could well have a say in proceedings.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
