1st (2) (16/1 -78%) Holly |
16/1(-78%) | (2) Holly 16/1, Triple French bumper winner who landed a novice hurdle at Wincanton in December 2021. Started last season with an encouraging third on 2m Chepstow handicap debut but well beaten in only 3 runs since. Mark has dropped by some way and she is likely to turn things around at some point. |

2nd (1) (5/6 +31%) Autumn Return |
5/6(+31%) | (1) Autumn Return 5/6, C&D winner who posted a career best when bagging 6-runner handicap hurdle (5/6) at Musselburgh (19.8f, soft) 40 days ago. Big shout despite taking a 4 lb rise. Maintained her progress when odds-on winner at Musselburgh; a 4lb rise not too big a blow. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (11/4 +0%) Shelikesthelights |
11/4(+0%) | (5) Shelikesthelights 11/4, Won hurdles at Doncaster and Southwell (handicap) last spring but well held on the back of a wind op on her Wincanton reappearance in October. Off another 2 months since with more needed. Lightly raced mare with more to offer but soft ground could be a stumbling block here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/1 +36%) Belles Benefit |
9/1(+36%) | (6) Belles Benefit 9/1, Successful on debut for this yard at Fontwell last summer and largely consistent subsequently but below par in cheekpieces when sixth at Hereford last time. Sort to get back on track. Even if shrugging aside recent disappointments she surely wants further than this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (15/2 +17%) Lets Go To Vegas |
15/2(+17%) | (3) Lets Go To Vegas 15/2, Course winner who was let down by her jumping when third of 4 in handicap chase at Wincanton (20.2f, soft) 14 days ago. Not discounted now reverted to hurdles. She has something to prove on ground this soft and all her form is at 2m4f+. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (22/1 -340%) Mary |
22/1(-340%) | (4) Mary 22/1, Showed plenty of promise when placed in bumpers at Warwick and Cheltenham last spring and when third in 2 hurdles since. Beat only one on her handicap debut at Newbury (16.3f, soft) 10 days ago though so needs to bounce back. Flopped at Newbury ten days ago but her previous run there brings her into it. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
AUTUMN RETURN justified strong support in the betting when she won a similar race over the extended 2m4f circuit at Musselburgh last November and a 4lb higher mark might not be enough to prevent her staging a repeat success if she copes with the drop back down in trip. Similar comments apply to Lets Go To Vegas, who can make a fist of things if dropping back in distance doesn't inconvenience her. Holly knows how to win a race and is feared most from the remainder.
AUTUMN RETURN can boast a C&D win and Ruth Jefferson's likeable mare looks very much the way to go on the back of her recent Musselburgh victory. Lets Go To Vegas could emerge as the chief threat now she reverts to this sphere having been let down by her jumping over fences with Belles Benefit appealing as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
Most of these have questions to answer at the minute but not AUTUMN RETURN (nap) who is putting a progressive profile together.

1st (8) (9/4 +10%) Zain Nights |
9/4(+10%) | (8) Zain Nights 9/4, Useful Flat stayer for Harry & Roger Charlton. Changed hands for 75,000 gns before eye-catching third at Huntingdon on hurdles debut but failed to build on it when fourth at Doncaster last time. Worth another chance. Decent on the Flat; promise in two runs over hurdles; interesting with headgear on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (9/4 +10%) G A Henty |
9/4(+10%) | (4) G A Henty 9/4, Winning pointer who showed some promise in two runs over hurdles for Tom George. Off 10 months but remains open to improvement for his new yard, Worth a market check. English point winner; showed promise on hurdle debut; changed yards since; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (6/1 -71%) Grand Albert |
6/1(-71%) | (5) Grand Albert 6/1, Winning Irish pointer who came in second of 5 in bumper (11/10) at Bangor (16.7f, heavy) 25 days ago, running on. Much respected on his hurdles debut. Irish point winner; 2nd in a bumper on stable debut; interesting up in trip now hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (15/8 +6%) Check The Score |
15/8(+6%) | (3) Check The Score 15/8, Successful on second of 2 starts in Irish points and made a winning start in bumpers in 17-runner event at Warwick (2m) 8 months ago, staying on to lead final 50 yds. Step up in trip will suit on hurdle debut and he's an interesting contender. Cost £75,000 after Irish point win; bumper winner on British debut; hurdles debut; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (66/1 -32%) Ballynaheer |
66/1(-32%) | (1) Ballynaheer 66/1, Runner-up on his completed outing in points but down the field both starts in maiden hurdles and it will surely be a similar story on qualifying run. Second in an English point in April; modest efforts over hurdles; improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (150/1 +25%) Thatza Dazzler |
150/1(+25%) | (7) Thatza Dazzler 150/1, Didn't show much in a couple of bumpers for Fergal O'Brien last term and a similar story over hurdles for new yard. Some promise in bumpers; poor form over hurdles; can pull hard; longer trip may not suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (200/1 -100%) Legostar |
200/1(-100%) | (6) Legostar 200/1, Fourth on the second of 3 starts in Irish bumpers in 2021. Won a point since but always behind on 19.5f Doncaster hurdle debut 25 days ago. Up in trip. English point winner; tailed off at 300-1 on hurdles debut last month; others stronger. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A winner of point-to-point before making a successful debut under Rules in a bumper at Warwick last April, CHECK THE SCORE is an intriguing contender for Fergal O'Brien to go to war with this season. This looks a good starting point over hurdles for the son of Mahler, who heads the shortlist based on potential. Grand Albert has a similar background and is likely to be wiser after last month's introduction under Rules in a NH Flat race at Bangor, while Zain Nights warrants consideration having already hinted at ability in this discipline.
The market should reveal plenty but Fergal O'Brien's winning pointer/bumper scorer CHECK THE SCORE gets the vote now starting out in this sphere with this immediate step up in trip looking a plus for this son of Mahler. Grand Albert also merits plenty of respect on his hurdling debut with useful Flat stayer Zain Nights not discounted either along with Dan Skelton's new recruit G A Henty.
Point/bumper winner CHECK THE SCORE can score on his hurdles debut. Grand Albert and G A Henty are two others to consider.

1st (6) (5/2 +38%) Anglers Crag |
5/2(+38%) | (6) Anglers Crag 5/2, Point winner who made a successful start for David Pipe in Leicester novice hurdle in February 2022. Form somewhat patchy since but got right back on track on first start for current yard (had breathing op) when landing 9-runner handicap at Carlisle (26.2f) 23 days ago. Respected up 5 lb. First win over fences at Carlisle on stable debut; up 5lb on an easier track; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (8/1 -60%) First Lord De Cuet |
8/1(-60%) | (2) First Lord De Cuet 8/1, Winning hurdler who made the frame on all of his 5 runs over fences last term. Had little go right at Cheltenham on his return but proved to be a disappointment at Bangor last time. Bounce back required. Winning pointer/hurdler; 0-9 over fences and has failed to finish on both starts this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (10/3 -48%) Lagonda |
10/3(-48%) | (5) Lagonda 10/3, Dual point winner who went close on chase debut at Exeter in February before finishing fifth of 15 in a mares' listed handicap hurdle at Newbury. Shade disappointing on second start in this sphere at Warwick but ran well when second at Chepstow (23.6f) since. Winning pointer/hurdler; good second over fences last time; yard in form; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/4 +61%) Peejaybee |
11/4(+61%) | (3) Peejaybee 11/4, Successful 3 times at up to 2m4f over hurdles but failed to meet expectations in trio of starts over fences around last term. Probably needed the run returning in a first-time tongue strap after 10 months off when fourth here (21.4f) in November. Has since left Richard Spencer. Bumper/hurdles winner; yet to win over fences; quite interesting up in trip on yard debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (4/1 -33%) Moon Hunter |
4/1(-33%) | (1) Moon Hunter 4/1, Winning pointer who landed his first 2 starts over hurdles. Looked rusty when fourth at Cheltenham on seasonal/chasing debut in October but produced a laboured effort when down the field at Exeter (24.2f) last time. Winning pointer; has potential but best rules form is at shorter and soft going not ideal. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ANGLERS CRAG made a successful debut for the Brian Ellison yard when he landed a class 4 handicap chase at Carlisle last month and, while this is more demanding, he displayed a willingness to battle that day and could be difficult to overhaul with a similar display of determination here. Lagonda is feared most on the back of a solid effort at Chepstow last time, while Moon Hunter can also go well, despite the burden of carrying top-weight.
ANGLERS CRAG overcame mistakes to beat a couple of lightly-raced chasers on his first start for his new yard at Carlisle last month so a 5 lb rise could well prove manageable. Lagonda shouldn't be long in winning over fences judged on her latest effort at Chepstow, with First Lord de Cuet capable of making his presence felt if bouncing back from a poor run at Bangor.
Conditions should be ideal for LAGONDA, whose stable is in such good form and who was a good second at Chepstow last time.

1st (5) (7/2 -17%) Scene One |
7/2(-17%) | (5) Scene One 7/2, Hurdles winner last term and, following a 7-month break, he made a successful start over fences at Fakenham (21.2f, soft) in November. Possibly unsuited by the testing conditions over the same C&D since and claims if able to get back on track with cheekpieces enlisted. Won at Fakenham on chase debut; pulled up on heavy ground there latest; cheekpieces tried. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (10/3 -33%) Grey Skies |
10/3(-33%) | (1) Grey Skies 10/3, Dual winner last spring and wasn't beaten far back from a break at Carlisle (21f, soft). Ultimately promised more than he delivered that day but this drop back in trip looks a potentially good move and he's on a workable mark. Perth winner in April and sound reappearance fourth last month; one with a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (8/1 -33%) Maninsane |
8/1(-33%) | (2) Maninsane 8/1, Dual winner in first campaign over fences last term and made the frame first 2 starts of present campaign. Latest effort at Doncaster was poor but the handicapper has been quick to offer respite and he's not ruled out. On same mark as for Southwell win in March; not quite as good since; place chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (13/8 +19%) William Cody |
13/8(+19%) | (4) William Cody 13/8, Did very well in his first season chasing last term, winning twice over 2½m at Huntingdon. Runner-up all 3 starts this time round, most recently over 21.2f at Fakenham (heavy), and another bold show is anticipated. Last win (Huntingdon) was off 12lb lower; runner-up on all three starts this time; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (15/2 +70%) That'll Be The Day |
15/2(+70%) | (6) That'll Be The Day 15/2, Maiden hurdle winner on Rules debut back in March 2021 but little impact in various race-types since, including 5 starts in this sphere. Readily passed over on this debut for new connections. Winner on rules debut (2021); mixed form since; perhaps best watched on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (25/1 -178%) Nordano |
25/1(-178%) | (3) Nordano 25/1, On a very attractive mark based on hurdles exploits a few seasons back but his wellbeing has to be taken on trust now switched to fences for a new yard following a 2-year absence. Triple winner over hurdles; faces stiff task on chase debut after a break of 722 days. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SCENE ONE didn't appreciate testing conditions when pulled up on his latest start at Fakenham as he arrived in search of a hat-trick of victories. The eight-year-old is capable of bouncing back from that display, especially with first-time cheekpieces being applied, and he can land this if finding top gear again. William Cody has been the bridesmaid on all three starts this campaign and he is expected to play a similar role once again, while Grey Skies is respected off just 2lb above his last winning mark.
WILLIAM CODY is taken to deservedly get his head back in front having found just one too good on each of his 3 starts since returning to action in November. He perhaps found 21.2f on deep ground too much of a test at Fakenham last time and the drop back in trip/better ground here will be helpful. Similar remarks apply to Scene One, who was pulled up in the same Fakenham race but he remains of interest nonetheless. Maninsane is third choice ahead of Grey Skies.
A trappy race can go to GREY SKIES who ran a solid race after a break when fourth at Carlisle last time. William Cody is next best.

1st (1) (11/1 -10%) Baron De Midleton |
11/1(-10%) | (1) Baron De Midleton 11/1, Won a trio of handicap chases in 2022/23, the latest in 3-runner event at Carlisle in March. However, bled when pulled up on final outing of last season and has failed to complete both starts so far this season, too. Won two chases early last year; pulled up on all three starts since; questions to answer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/4 +44%) Homme D'un Soir |
9/4(+44%) | (6) Homme D'un Soir 9/4, Pretty useful hurdler/chaser for Stuart Crawford but let down by his jumping in hunters for Francesca Poste in the spring (also failed to win in points). However, step back in the right direction when third of 14 for new yard returned to hurdles at Doncaster (16.6f, good to soft) last month. Player. Sound run back hurdling when 3rd over 2m last time; return to 2m4f will suit; good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (7/2 +22%) Our Bill's Aunt |
7/2(+22%) | (7) Our Bill's Aunt 7/2, Consistent sort who opened her account at Chepstow on last season's reappearance. Perhaps the combination of testing conditions and the trip (24.3f) amounted to too much of a test on her return this time round at Southwell. Since undergone a wind op and sports a first-time tongue strap here. Has not won since November 2022 although some fair form since; back after wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (9/4 +10%) Charles St |
9/4(+10%) | (5) Charles St 9/4, Tricky customer who finally got the job done over hurdles when seeing off 9 rivals with blinkers refitted (on again here) over C&D (good to soft) in November. Tom Broughton again aboard and good chance up 5 lb, provided he's in the same form. Consistent; off the mark on first run at this trip over C&D last time; up 5lb; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (5/1 +0%) Haafapiece |
5/1(+0%) | (3) Haafapiece 5/1, Went backwards following an encouraging reappearance when pulled up at Wetherby (19.7f, heavy) in November. However, subsequent break will have freshened him up and he could have a part to play off this reduced mark if on-song. No win since January 2022 but these conditions suit and he is on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (33/1 -230%) Jac Jumper |
33/1(-230%) | (4) Jac Jumper 33/1, Fairly useful form over hurdles in France, winner of a juvenile event at Dieppe in August 2022, and also showed fair form when placed once from 2 starts in 4-y-o events over fences last February. Still, probably worth taking on starting out for new connections here. Ex-French; fair form over hurdles and fences; perhaps best watched on British/stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CHARLES ST improved for stepping up in distance when gaining a first success in this sphere over C&D in November and the five-year-old could prove tough to beat, despite a 5lb rise from the handicapper. Homme D'Un Soir shaped well on his first start for new connections when third over a trip shorter than ideal at Doncaster. He commands respect, while the consistent Our Bill's Aunt is expected to be in the mix.
HOMME D'UN SOIR put in a good shift back hurdling on debut for Billy Aprahamian at Doncaster and, down another 1 lb and back up in trip here, he could be the answer to this trappy-looking contest. It remains to be seen if Charles St will reproduce the form of his C&D success last time but he'll certainly be a threat if able to do so, while cases can also be made for Haafapiece and Our Bill's Aunt.
The choice is HOMME D'UN SOIR, who ran well after a spell hunter chasing and pointing when third over 2m at Doncaster last time.

1st (2) (3/1 -9%) Hokelami |
3/1(-9%) | (2) Hokelami 3/1, Won Stratford selling hurdle in April (final start for Olly Murphy) and fair fourth in a handicap hurdle there for new stable 3 weeks later. However, his reappearance/chase debut in a first-time hood here (21.4f) was anything but encouraging. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Sole win came in a selling hurdle at Stratford (2m2f); jumped moderately on chasing debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (2/1 +11%) Cokytho |
2/1(+11%) | (1) Cokytho 2/1, Fair chaser in France but well held in 3 outings for Oliver Sherwood last season. Took a small step back in the right direction when fourth of 7 in handicap chase at this course (19.2f, heavy, 17/2) 33 days ago on yard debut/return and still got enough time on his side to believe he can come good. Fared okay on stable debut here (2m3f, soft; fourth) last month; easing mark; chance.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 +0%) Berliet Express |
12/1(+0%) | (3) Berliet Express 12/1, Becoming well treated but showed nothing both starts for this yard in the autumn. Yet to win over fences (0-21) and has struggled badly for form since joining this trainer.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (14/1 +36%) Brickadank |
14/1(+36%) | (6) Brickadank 14/1, Remains a maiden after 29 NH runs and makes no appeal on back of 2 no shows. 1 lb out of the handicap. Headgear on. 34-race maiden who is struggling for form; cheekpieces fitted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/4 -50%) Yellow Jacket |
9/4(-50%) | (4) Yellow Jacket 9/4, Lightly-raced maiden who found just one too good on chase debut at Ffos Las (2m, heavy) in March. Failed to build on that next time but back to that level when second at Bangor on return, the only one to give the winner any sort of race. Big shout off 1 lb lower. Could strip fitter for last month's comeback run at Bangor (second); B. Hughes a positive.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (12/1 +25%) A Cheap Thrill |
12/1(+25%) | (5) A Cheap Thrill 12/1, Fair hurdler/chaser for Emmet Mullins but yet to fire for present yard and overall record now stands at 0-22. Still seeking first win (0-22); pulled up last attempt over fences; handicap mark falling.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
YELLOW JACKET may have just needed his first run of the season when ultimately proving no match for an easy winner at Bangor last month. The seven-year-old remains open to improvement on just his fourth outing over the larger obstacles and this may prove to be the ideal opportunity to shed the maiden tag. Cokytho and Hokelami appeal most of the remainder.
YELLOW JACKET didn't have much chance with the winner at Bangor on return but his superiority over the others was greater than the margin implies so makes the most appeal up against some out of form rivals. Cokytho at least took a small step back in the right direction starting out for this yard here on return last month so is feared most.
Brian Hughes takes the mount aboard YELLOW JACKET for the first time and, in a weak contest, this lightly raced chaser should go close.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
