1st (4) (4/1 +0%) Ramo |
4/1(+0%) | (4) Ramo 4/1, Improved for step up to staying trips last term, winning handicaps at Plumpton/Newton Abbot and unlucky not to complete the hat-trick when runner-up at first-named venue on final outing. Remains one to be interested in back from 6 months off. Two wins and a narrow defeat in the spring all came at 3m+; back from seven months off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (16/1 +20%) Midnightreflection |
16/1(+20%) | (2) Midnightreflection 16/1, Registered a fourth career success at Doncaster (24.4f) in February and not disgraced on 2 of her 3 starts thereafter last term. Unseated rider at start on return at Chepstow 9 days ago but she's not out of things judged on pick of last season's form. Chance on last season's form but whipped round and unseated on return nine days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/2 +44%) The Bomber Liston |
9/2(+44%) | (6) The Bomber Liston 9/2, Fairly useful hurdler who didn't convince in trio of starts over fences earlier this year and he was again some way below his best over hurdles when fourth of 5 in handicap at Uttoxeter (23.3f) 32 days ago. Ease back down in trip may help here. Good second in March but has seemingly lost his way. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (11/2 -10%) Regal Renaissance |
11/2(-10%) | (10) Regal Renaissance 11/2, Emphatically doubled her tally over C&D in April and, back from 5 months off, produced a solid comeback effort when second in 4-runner handicap here 4 weeks ago. Remains lightly raced and stable landed this race 12 months ago. Worthy of respect. Two wins last season and second on recent return, all over C&D; more appealing than many. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (17/2 -42%) Toothless |
17/2(-42%) | (3) Toothless 17/2, Dual 2m hurdles winner early in 2023 but pulled up at Newbury final start and he finished well held once more on return/following wind op at Plumpton (15.9f) last month. This should reveal more upped significantly in trip. Two wins last season but inconsistent and ran poorly on recent return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (15/2 -7%) Call Me Tara |
15/2(-7%) | (7) Call Me Tara 15/2, Positive profile over hurdles, gaining third career success in 4-runner mares' handicap at Uttoxeter (20f, heavy) in July. Not in same form at Worcester in September but she returns from 2 months off with her yard amongst the winners. 3-6 over hurdles; well held latest but should be competitive on balance of form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (4/1 +60%) Front View |
4/1(+60%) | (1) Front View 4/1, Useful hurdler/chaser in Ireland for Joseph O'Brien in 2020/21. In touch when unseated rider 3 out in handicap hurdle at Wetherby (16f, soft) in March and he's entitled to come forward from last month's reappearance run at Chepstow. Could be worth chancing up in trip. Ran well on yard debut in January but hasn't built on it; up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (33/1 -230%) Mahler Moon |
33/1(-230%) | (8) Mahler Moon 33/1, Well beaten in bumpers but not without promise in novice/maiden hurdles and likely he'll come on for last month's reappearance run at Bangor/following a wind op. Tongue tie refitted for handicap debut and worth monitoring closely in the betting for clues. Tailed off last month but may do much better now handicapping and back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (11/1 -57%) Fenney Brook |
11/1(-57%) | (12) Fenney Brook 11/1, 3-time winner (twice over C&D) for Henry Daly during 2022. Below best first 3 starts this term but made it first time lucky having been picked up cheaply by new yard at Hereford (19.6f) 23 days ago, keeping on well. This rates tougher, however. Game winner on stable debut last month; two C&D wins to her name. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (16/1 +27%) State Of Bliss |
16/1(+27%) | (11) State Of Bliss 16/1, Won at fourth time of asking over hurdles in 4-runner Fakenham maiden in June but hasn't replicated that in pair of Worcester handicaps subsequently. Steps up in trip on the back of a break now. Maiden winner in June but well held three times since; up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (66/1 -100%) Art Approval |
66/1(-100%) | (5) Art Approval 66/1, Fairly useful hurdler who matched that level without getting his head in front over fences during second half of last season. Switched yards ahead of return and worth noting he's now operating 2 lb below last winning mark. Lost his way over fences last season; stable debut and much to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (66/1 -32%) Esperti |
66/1(-32%) | (9) Esperti 66/1, Fairly useful winning hurdler in Ireland for Peter Fahey but he has failed to fire in 4 outings for his yard, beaten quickly when pulled up at Worcester (20f) in August. Hard to warm to back from 72 days off. Winner in Ireland but has been tailed off all four starts in Britain. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A promising runner-up on her return here last month over shorter, REGAL RENAISSANCE is taken to go one better at a track where she won comfortably in April. A winner of two of his last three, Ramo is of interest on the drop in trip, while Fenney Brook should be able to build on a determined success at Hereford last time out. The Bomber Liston and Toothless are likely to be thereabouts as well.
A competitive opener and with that in mind it may pay to take a chance on top weight FRONT VIEW. His recent record is patchy but he ought to strip fitter for last month's reappearance run at Chepstow and he's lurking on a very dangerous mark judged on the pick of his form in Ireland. Ramo was progressing well when last seen and he's feared, along with Regal Renaissance and Call Me Tara.
Several with obvious claims but perhaps handicap newcomer MAHLER MOON can take a step forward.

1st (11) (7/4 +78%) Saisissante |
7/4(+78%) | (11) Saisissante 7/4, Fairly useful Flat winner at up to 1¼m in France. Well held in a Newmarket handicap and Stratford juvenile hurdle since joining this yard but could be dangerous if the refitting of a blinkers/tongue tie combination she wore to good effect in France sparks her back to life. Well beaten on hurdle debut but could do a lot better with aids back on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (13/2 -30%) Star Turn |
13/2(-30%) | (7) Star Turn 13/2, From a yard which does well in these events but he's looked limited in his 5 Flat starts. Top yard but Flat displays have been very modest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (40/1 +0%) Pivotal Sky |
40/1(+0%) | (4) Pivotal Sky 40/1, Falco gelding. Dam, ran once in bumper/on Flat, sister to bumper winner/useful 2m hurdler Santia. Has cheekpieces fitted for debut. A watching brief is advised. Racecourse debut; bought for £2,000 as a yearling; dam related to winners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (18/1 +55%) Fantastic Artist |
18/1(+55%) | (3) Fantastic Artist 18/1, Poor maiden on the Flat so doesn't strike as an obvious one to make a winning start over hurdles. Poor Flat maiden; hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (28/1 +58%) All Blues |
28/1(+58%) | (9) All Blues 28/1, Modest form on Flat in Ireland and down the field on her C&D hurdle debut 29 days ago. Unplaced on the Flat in Ireland and well beaten on recent C&D stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (16/5 +20%) Right Now |
16/5(+20%) | (5) Right Now 16/5, Fairly useful maiden on the Flat. Dropped away between the last 2 to finish sixth on his Cork hurdle debut (final start for Joseph O'Brien) but his Flat ability suggests he should be capable of better in this sphere. New yard acquired him for 10,000 gns last month. Ex-Irish; placed on the Flat; only sixth on hurdle debut; still worth a look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (11/1 -38%) Mawada |
11/1(-38%) | (10) Mawada 11/1, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 7.5f) for Richard Fahey. Her stamina perhaps isn't assured now hurdling but she does start out in an ordinary race. Placed as a 2yo but unplaced both outings this autumn; hurdle/stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (4/1 +78%) Sao Timothy |
4/1(+78%) | (6) Sao Timothy 4/1, Modest maiden on Flat but has shown some promise in low-grade AW handicaps in recent weeks. Hurdle debut. Unplaced all Flat starts; better efforts the last twice but in modest company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (50/1 -100%) Stray Bullet |
50/1(-100%) | (8) Stray Bullet 50/1, Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Barrua. Fair winner on Flat in France but well held on his completed start over hurdles for this yard last month. Two Flat wins in France but nothing positive in two British hurdle runs. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
With the notable omission of Fontwell winner Book Of Tales, this can go the way of BALBOA, who put it all together when winning at Chepstow last month. Milton Harris' charge must saddle a penalty today, but any further improvement will make him a tough nut to crack. Right Now was far from disgraced on his hurdles debut at Cork and is one to note on his first start for the Sheila Lewis team. Star Turn is a half-brother to dual hurdle winner Da Vinci Hand and he looks an interesting prospect now sent over timber.
This may develop into a fight between previous hurdle winners BOOK OF TALES and Balboa, with a narrow vote going to the former. It's possible the refitting of a headgear combination she wore to good effect on the Flat in France could see Saisissante leave her hurdle debut effort well behind so she's next on the list.
The newcomers make little appeal so BALBOA is taken to follow up his Chepstow win.

1st (1) (11/8 +15%) Tightenourbelts |
11/8(+15%) | (1) Tightenourbelts 11/8, Mahler gelding who made a solid start over hurdles and completed an easy task to open his account in a novice at this course 7 months ago. Type to take well to chasing and makes most appeal. Consistent in novice hurdles and won here in March; claims on chasing/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (10/1 -33%) Llandinabo Lad |
10/1(-33%) | (4) Llandinabo Lad 10/1, Useful hurdler. Not quite so good over fences but should strip fitter for his return at Ffos Las in October. Not dismissed. Plenty of chasing experience but hasn't really improved; well held on last month's return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (16/1 +20%) Val Dancer |
16/1(+20%) | (7) Val Dancer 16/1, Runner-up in a bumper and made second hurdles start a winning one at Bangor (19.6f. heavy) last November. Didn't fire subsequently but a break/switch to chasing (ex-pointer) could help. Novice hurdle winner; didn't build on it; chasing debut (second in an Irish point). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (4/1 +11%) Jubilee Express |
4/1(+11%) | (2) Jubilee Express 4/1, Made a winning hurdling bow in Hereford novice in March last year and improved on next two starts. Bit disappointing on final outing but switched to chasing for return with his stable going well. Mostly positives to be drawn from hurdling last season; could well figure on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (25/1 -56%) Inishbiggle |
25/1(-56%) | (5) Inishbiggle 25/1, Fairly useful winner over hurdles who has run with credit over fences on three of his last four starts. Looks vulnerable to less-exposed sorts in this, however. Has improved in cheekpieces the last twice but probably needs more in this field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (5/2 +25%) Washington |
5/2(+25%) | (3) Washington 5/2, Dual-novice hurdle winner for Olly Murphy and ended last season in reasonable form. Has the physique for chasing and looks a big player on debut for top yard after a wind op. Good hurdle form for Olly Murphy; chasing debut and chances if he stays 2m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (14/1 -65%) Thankyourluckystar |
14/1(-65%) | (6) Thankyourluckystar 14/1, Winner at Ludlow in March before good third of 4 in handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (18.6f, heavy) 7 months ago. Should take to chasing, so not dismissed. Hurdle winner here in March and not discounted on chasing debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
TIGHTENOURBELTS could not have won any easier here on his latest start in March, and a mark of 124 on his chase debut looks manageable. Emma Lavelle's charge gets the vote ahead of the capable Washington, who must be of interest on his first start for the Paul Nicholls yard. Runner-up on two of his last three starts, Jubilee Express is entitled to be thereabouts as well.
An interesting novices' handicap chase that could be dominated by chasing debutants, with TIGHTENOURBELTS looking the pick of them given his pointing background. Washington is one to note on debut for Paul Nicholls and Jubilee Express is considered with his stable in such good order.

1st (6) (5/1 +50%) Lilting Verse |
5/1(+50%) | (6) Lilting Verse 5/1, Listed bumper winner last winter. Well beaten in a listed mares' novice on her Cheltenham hurdle debut in April but she should be capable of better with her sights lowered. Listed bumper winner but tailed off on hurdle debut in April; likely to leave that behind. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (13/8 +7%) Between Waters |
13/8(+7%) | (1) Between Waters 13/8, Successful sole start in points and whilst she failed to meet expectations when midfield in 14-runner Ascot bumper (15.7f) in February she was a shade keen/green then. Entitled to have learned from that and respected on hurdles bow. Irish point winner; sixth in a bumper a year later; hurdle debut and retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/4 +10%) Florencethemachine |
9/4(+10%) | (3) Florencethemachine 9/4, Malinas mare. Successful on sole outing in Irish points in March and shaped much better than distance beaten suggests when second in 13-runner mares' novice hurdle at Chepstow (19.5f) 4 weeks ago. Looks sure to progress and worth considering. Irish point winner; second on hurdle debut last month; strong candidate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (20/1 -233%) Emma Hamilton |
20/1(-233%) | (2) Emma Hamilton 20/1, Mount Nelson mare who built on her bumper debut effort when second of 9 at Bangor (16.6f) in May, settling better granted a more strongly-run race. Longer trip promises to suit now hurdling. Second in a bumper in May but form looks modest; hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (33/1 -32%) Lucky Rose |
33/1(-32%) | (7) Lucky Rose 33/1, Soldier Of Fortune mare. Fair form on 2 of her 3 starts in bumpers last season, fourth in 14-runner event at Southwell (15.8f) in April. Longer trip promises to suit now attentions switch to hurdling on seasonal bow. Consistent if fairly modest in bumpers last season; hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) ( ) Harry's Hope |
() | (5) Harry's Hope , £22,000 5-y-o, Quest For Peace mare. Sister to fair 23f chase winner The Boola Boss, and half-sister to fair chaser The Boola Bee, stayed 3¼m. Dam ran once in bumper/over hurdles. Off mark in Irish points at third attempt (Apr 23). Market should guide. Irish point winner in April; chasing pedigree and may need more time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (13) (125/1 -150%) Vivid Pink |
125/1(-150%) | (13) Vivid Pink 125/1, Best effort in bumpers when second of 5 at Market Rasen (16.5f) in August and she was given a considerate introduction to hurdling when fourth of 8 in a mares' maiden at Exeter (16.7f) 4 weeks ago. Handicaps likely to be more her bag. Second in a bumper and fourth on hurdle debut but form of both runs is modest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (13/2 +19%) Girls In Skirts |
13/2(+19%) | (11) Girls In Skirts 13/2, £20,000 3-y-o, Mahler filly. Makes appeal on paper and showed ability when third in valuable, big-field Newbury bumper (16.3f) on debut back in March. Rates the type to make her mark over hurdles for very good yard. Fine third in a bumper in March; hurdle debut; one of the more appealing contenders. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (14/1 +0%) Strong Belle |
14/1(+0%) | (9) Strong Belle 14/1, Didn't kick on in bumpers but she did show some promise when runner-up on hurdles debut at Huntingdon last month, on bridle for longer than winner but collared well inside final 1f. Task now is to go the right way from that. Placed in bumpers; second of four on hurdle debut and deal more likely needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (40/1 -21%) Young At Heart |
40/1(-21%) | (14) Young At Heart 40/1, Positive start when third on debut in a Fakenham bumper (2m) in April and may have found the race coming too soon at Southwell later that month. Pedigree an ongoing recommendation and interesting what the market makes of her now hurdling following 6 months off. Third on bumper debut but well held next time; now tackles hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (66/1 -65%) Game Colours |
66/1(-65%) | (4) Game Colours 66/1, €5,000 3-y-o, Shantou mare. Half-sister to sprint winner Show Approval. Made frame both completed starts in Irish points, runner-up latest (May 20). Tongue strap on. Second in an Irish point in May but limited appeal on British/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (66/1 -65%) The Midwife |
66/1(-65%) | (10) The Midwife 66/1, £75,000 5-y-o. Successful sole start in Irish points (Feb 12) but she could only run to a modest level when sixth of 13 in an Exeter bumper (16.7f) on Rules debut in April. Up in trip for hurdles debut. Irish point winner; fair bumper effort in April on British debut; could play a part. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (200/1 -100%) Lean On Me |
200/1(-100%) | (12) Lean On Me 200/1, Winner of sole completed start between the flags, but little short-term promise in 2 quick-fire hurdle runs this autumn. Point winner; well beaten on both hurdle starts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
FLORENCETHEMACHINE found only a useful mare too strong when runner-up on her hurdling debut at Chepstow last month and any natural improvement should make Paul Nicholls' five-year-old tough to beat. Although Between Waters failed to meet market expectations on her sixth-placed finish in a warm bumper at Ascot last season, the daughter of Walk In The Park is likely to on the premises entering this sphere, along with Girls In Skirts.
A winner on her only start in points, FLORENCETHEMACHINE produced a very promising first effort in this sphere when runner-up in a mares' novice at Chepstow 4 weeks ago and, with improvement expected, she earns the vote to go one place better. Between Waters on hurdles debut and Lilting Verse are others to consider, with Girls In Skirts also worthy of note.

1st (6) (5/1 -82%) Famoso |
5/1(-82%) | (6) Famoso 5/1, Finally opened his account (at the 17th time of asking under Rules) in 17f handicap chase at Stratford in August. Good second at same track last month and better than bare result at Exeter since. Shortlist material. Led close home to score at Stratford in August but overall profile not that persuasive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/5 +31%) Hunter Legend |
6/5(+31%) | (2) Hunter Legend 6/5, Half-brother to the yard's very smart chaser Cepage. Much better effort second start in a handicap when runner-up at Ffos Las final start. Drop back in trip not ideal but improvement still possible now switched to fences. 0-4 over hurdles but ran well in defeat on latest outing; can improve over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/1 +65%) Phoenix Aquilus |
7/1(+65%) | (1) Phoenix Aquilus 7/1, Fairly useful staying handicapper on Flat at best but just a modest maiden over hurdles. Makes chase debut. Well beaten on last two hurdling starts and not easy to predict on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (40/1 -21%) King Of The Hill |
40/1(-21%) | (8) King Of The Hill 40/1, Maiden Irish pointer achieved nothing in 3 novice hurdles last season and left behind gradually at Kelso on chase bow/return. 7 lb out of handicap. Struggled on recent chase/handicap debut and effectively 5lb higher here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (12/1 -100%) Crews Pitch |
12/1(-100%) | (3) Crews Pitch 12/1, In the frame on both starts in bumpers for J. M. Ridley and went close in a weak maiden on his hurdles/stable debut at Uttoxeter. Back to that level when third on handicap debut at Worcester. Off 15 months. Makes chase debut. First run for yard after leaving Ryan Potter. Placed on handicap hurdle debut in summer 2022; absent since but watch the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (9/2 +25%) Ten Past Midnight |
9/2(+25%) | (5) Ten Past Midnight 9/2, Poor handicap hurdler. Reached the frame again when fourth of 12 at Plumpton (20.5f). Shaped like a non-stayer stepped back up in trip at Ffos Las (23.9f, good to soft, 9/1) 25 days ago. Back over fences (showed nothing on chase bow 14 months ago). Four-time winner over hurdles, but last year's sole chasing attempt did not go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (14/1 -40%) Lonimoss Bareliere |
14/1(-40%) | (7) Lonimoss Bareliere 14/1, Runner-up in back-to-back 2m handicap chases at Uttoxeter in June/July. However, still seeking first taste of success and below par last 2 starts. 5 lb out of handicap. Didn't fire at Warwick last month and now 0-12 over fences; 5lb wrong; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (18/1 -100%) Go Fox |
18/1(-100%) | (4) Go Fox 18/1, Took advantage of a much-reduced mark when successful at Fakenham in June and followed up at Stratford (17f) 16 days later. Just the one decent effort since but mark is at least easing again. Won twice on good ground in June but was out of form when last seen in August. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Hunter Legend posted his best effort to date when second at Ffos Las in May and Venetia Williams' gelding isn't taken lightly if continuing in the same heart after a 184-day absence. However, there may be some value in taking the six-year-old on with a race-fit TEN PAST MIDNIGHT. The son of Midnight Legend has recorded his best efforts over 2m this season. Famoso completes the shortlist.
HUNTER LEGEND is bred to make a chaser being a half-brother to the yard's very smart Cepage, so he can make a winning debut in this sphere despite the drop in trip probably not being ideal. Famoso shaped as if still in form at Exeter and is next best ahead of Go Fox.

1st (2) (4/7 +43%) Choccabloc |
4/7(+43%) | (2) Choccabloc 4/7, Duly landed the odds when opening his account at the third attempt in bumpers last season. Very promising start over hurdles when just touched off over 15.8f here (soft) on return and likely to make a bold bid to go one better now faced with a stiffer test. Bumper winner; just beaten over 2m here on hurdle debut; the one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (10/3 -21%) The Doyen Chief |
10/3(-21%) | (4) The Doyen Chief 10/3, Successful sole start in Irish points and maintained unbeaten record with a bit in hand in 9-runner bumper at Hereford in April. This trip will suit and he looks a good hurdles prospect. Irish point winner; won Hereford bumper on British debut; plenty of appeal now hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (18/1 -100%) The Famous Five |
18/1(-100%) | (5) The Famous Five 18/1, Camelot gelding who showed fairly useful form in winning twice at up to 1½m on the Flat in France in 2021. Changed hands for €250,000, but offered little on hurdles debut, albeit in Grade 2 company, at Kempton back in February 2022 and he's been absent since. French Flat winner; tailed off on hurdle debut in February 2022 and absent since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (22/1 -38%) Bullets Hill |
22/1(-38%) | (1) Bullets Hill 22/1, Imposing sort who looked a strong stayer when making a winning debut for Ella Pickard at Chepstow last October. Followed up at Carlisle next time, but beaten a fair way on final start of last season (since undergone a wind op) and opposable starting out over hurdles in what looks a warm race. Two bumper wins last season; could make an impact on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (33/1 -136%) Everyonesacritic |
33/1(-136%) | (6) Everyonesacritic 33/1, Fetched £40,000 after winning his sole start in Irish points during the spring. Interesting to see what the market makes of him ahead of this Rules debut. Irish point winner in April; bought for £40,000; hurdle debut; others appeal more. |

|F| (3) (7/1 -17%) Goonhilly |
7/1(-17%) | (3) Goonhilly 7/1, Fairly useful form in a couple of bumpers and shaped well on return/hurdles debut when third of 11 in a Uttoxeter maiden (2½m, good to soft) last month. Entitled to come on for that and should pick up a race in this sphere before long. Two good bumper efforts; likely to have to improve considerably on recent hurdle third. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
CHOCCABLOC was only headed in the dying strides on his first appearance over timber at this venue a fortnight ago and compensation could await with that experience under his belt. The Doyen Chief made the perfect start to his Rules debut when landing a bumper at Hereford in April and Alan King's winning pointer can't be underestimated entering this discipline. Goonhilly may fare best of the remainder.
CHOCCABLOC pulled clear of the rest when narrowly outpointed on his recent hurdles debut at this course and, with this step up in trip likely to help unlock improvement, he will take plenty of stopping. The Doyen Chief did the job well when making a successful start under Rules in a Hereford bumper and he could have a bright future in this sphere, while Goonhilly is best of the rest.

1st (6) (4/1 +0%) Robyndzone |
4/1(+0%) | (6) Robyndzone 4/1, Returned to form when taking 6-runner handicap chase at Hereford (25.2f, good to soft) in April and similar form from 4 lb higher when runner-up at Ffos Las (25.3f, good to soft) later that month. Returns 3 lb higher and certainly not ruled out. Came good for Venetia Williams in April; has fitness to prove after 198-day absence. |

2nd (7) (3/1 +65%) Langley Hundred |
3/1(+65%) | (7) Langley Hundred 3/1, Dual staying handicap hurdle winner last winter who could run no more than respectably in handful of starts thereafter from revised mark. Goes chasing now with yard amongst the winners and the betting may prove best guide here. Course winner over hurdles last season; makes chasing debut from workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (8/1 +68%) Bretney |
8/1(+68%) | (9) Bretney 8/1, Took his form up a notch sporting first-time blinkers when winning North Wales National at Bangor in February. The headgear didn't work next 2 starts, though, and cheekpieces re-fitted for this return. Won Bangor marathon in February but ended last season with two poor performances. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 +10%) Concetto |
9/2(+10%) | (3) Concetto 9/2, Well held hurdling runs but proved a totally different proposition sent chasing, scoring on handicap debut at Huntingdon before following up at Musselburgh. Made a worrying reappearance but could easily leave it behind reverted to forcing the pace now back right-handed. Cheekpieces on. Disappointed on recent seasonal debut but made bright start to chasing career last term. |

5th (10) (18/1 +45%) Hey Bud |
18/1(+45%) | (10) Hey Bud 18/1, Underwhelming for Laura Hurley in 2021/22 and having got back on track when runner-up on return/yard debut over fences at Ffos Las last November, his jumping frailties again resurfaced when distant third back there in January. Below form hurdling 6 months ago so looks an easy swerve. Ran big race on stable debut last November but didn't fire on other two starts last term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (7/1 +65%) Tide Times |
7/1(+65%) | (2) Tide Times 7/1, Fine record here, all 3 of his wins over fences coming at this track (latest in January over C&D). Ran poorly here when last seen 6 months ago but returns from a much-reduced mark. Will need to hit the ground running. Out of form in the spring but this triple course winner resumes on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (9/1 -29%) Jaytee |
9/1(-29%) | (1) Jaytee 9/1, Better than ever when back-to-back winner of small-field events at Southwell in the summer but struggled in a much deeper race at Uttoxeter (26.1f, good) when last seen in early-July. Cheekpieces back on here and fancied to make more of an impact. Won two-small field chases in the spring; needs to prove he can cope with a mark this high. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (10/1 +38%) Grange Road |
10/1(+38%) | (4) Grange Road 10/1, Failed to kick on from a positive start over hurdles for Paul Nicholls and hasn't shown much in a couple of starts in this sphere, including on second run for this yard at Uttoxeter 11 months ago. Best watched. Not seen since respectable fifth nearly a year ago but given good chance by handicapper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (22/1 -144%) Lord Sparky |
22/1(-144%) | (5) Lord Sparky 22/1, Made it 2-4 for this stable when making all in a 29f amateur rider's handicap at Fakenham on New Year's Day. Finished runner-up on both subsequent starts and he's worth a second look with blinkers reapplied for this return to action. Ran well at favourite track Huntingdon in April but remains on career-high mark here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Off the back of a good second over the extended 3m1f at Ffos Las in April, ROBYNDZONE commands a lot of respect and rates the one to beat. He could still be well handicapped off 107 and, 3-8 over fences, there is likely more to come from him over the larger obstacles. Jaytee is also respected, while Lord Sparky is interesting on his return too.
With Eceparti's participation in doubt (made to work hard when successful again at Chepstow on Wednesday), it could pay to side with his stablemate ROBYNDZONE, who was in good form when last seen in the spring and has gone well fresh in the past. A better showing is anticipated from Concetto going right-handed and with cheekpieces fitted so he heads up the dangers, ahead of Ian Williams' pair Jaytee and Tide Times.

Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 21f) Cassells Rock. Rare bumper runner for this yard and market support should be noted. Half-brother to four Flat winners; rare bumper runner for respected Flat trainer. |

6th (9) (13/2 +59%) Pierrefonds |
13/2(+59%) | (9) Pierrefonds 13/2, Camelot gelding who was too lit up to fully get home when 10¼ lengths eighth of 14 to Giddyupadingdong in bumper at Huntingdon (13.7f, good to firm) on debut last month. No surprise to see a hood applied. Raced too freely when 10l behind Giddyupadingdong on debut; hood now added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (8/1 +68%) Macari |
8/1(+68%) | (6) Macari 8/1, Sixties Icon gelding. Dam, 6f/7f winner, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (2m winner) Mr Gallivanter. Not without hope based on breeding. Out of a fair 6f/7f Flat winner; stable 1-17 in bumpers during last five seasons. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (16/1 -113%) Bobacious |
16/1(-113%) | (2) Bobacious 16/1, Telescope gelding who was hooded on debut and hinted at ability amidst inexperience when fifth of 15 in bumper at Exeter (13.2f, soft) just over a fortnight ago. Step forward needed to take this. Kept on for never-dangerous fifth on Exeter debut; improvement required here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (250/1 -25%) No Guarantee |
250/1(-25%) | (8) No Guarantee 250/1, Well-beaten eleventh of 14 to Giddyupadingdong in bumper (200/1) at Huntingdon (13.7f, good to firm) on debut last month. Faces another struggle. Tailed off when 200-1 for Huntingdon race won by Giddyupadingdong last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (80/1 -142%) Brief Encounter |
80/1(-142%) | (10) Brief Encounter 80/1, Buck's Boum filly. Half-sister to fair 2m hurdle winner Obsessedwithyou and French 15f hurdle winner Calipsa. Dam, French chaser (2¼m-21f winner), sister to smart hurdler/fairly useful chaser (winner up to 19f) Sleeping Blue. Wears hood. Half-sister to two hurdle winners; hooded on debut; stable quiet in bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (200/1 -33%) My Mate Polly |
200/1(-33%) | (12) My Mate Polly 200/1, Forever Now filly who went with little encouragement when eighth of 9 in bumper at Stratford (16.3f, heavy) on debut 7 days ago. Struggled to get competitive when a big-priced outsider at Stratford a week ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GIDDYUPADINGDONG made a very pleasing start to his career when scoring over the extended 1m5f in a bumper at Huntingdon and he can follow up that success. Milton Harris' charge can put that experience to good use over many of these rivals and more improvement can be expected. Carved In Stone is feared most for trainer Hugo Palmer who has very few bumper runners, while Bobacious is noted too.
The market will no doubt be revealing with several newcomers on show, but the vote goes to GIDDYUPADINGDONG, who made a winning start at Huntingdon last month and can put that experience to good use under a penalty. Maria's Flame, Carved In Stone and Gore Point are just a trio of potential dangers making their respective debuts.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
