Terresita

1/6(+75%)
(1) Terresita 1/6, Successful 3 times as a novice hurdler and built on promise of chase debut effort at third attempt when running out a dominant winner over C&D (heavy) under Harry Cobden in February. Respectable third at Sandown since. The one to beat in this small-field event with Cobden back in the saddle.
Comfortable C&D winner in February and good third in valuable Sandown race last month.

(2) Gastibelza 4/1, Fairly useful hurdle/chase winner in France, leaving Gabriel Leenders after Fontainebleau claiming chase success in February. Has joined a stable among the winners and her opening British mark looks fair.
Comfortable winner of French claiming chase in February; makes British debut today.

14:00 Ludlow Handicap Chase (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

TERRESITA finished a creditable third in a premier handicap at Sandown last month and, back into calmer waters, this looks a good opportunity for Lucy Wadham's seven-year-old to regain the winning sequence. Gastibelza, a six-time winner when trained in France, ought to relish conditions should they be testing and with Current Mood uncertain to take up this engagement following her run at Chepstow on Monday, she could be the sole threat.

TERRESITA can land a second C&D win of the year under Harry Cobden, although Micky Hammond's new recruit Gastibelza does look fairly handicapped judged on the form of her recent French claiming success so Lucy Wadham's charge may not have things all her own way.

Gastibelza signed off in France with a comfortable win but TERRESITA ought to be hard to beat on a track that suits her very well.

14:30 Ludlow Novices Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

EASY PEASY lost her unbeaten record when finishing down the field in a Listed bumper at Cheltenham in November, but the daughter of Walk In The Park put that behind her to make a successful hurdling bow at Exeter 62 days ago. This doesn't look the strongest of contests, so she's taken to carry a penalty to success. Get Sky High might not have been seen for 504 days, but she had some useful form in the book prior to her absence and market support would be interesting. Twyford's Diamond heads the remainder.

GET SKY HIGH offered plenty to work on behind the now smart Nemean Lion on her Hereford hurdling debut back in November 2022 and, with fitness rarely a concern with runners from the Skelton yard, she's taken to come out on top. Easy Peasy won a decidedly ordinary maiden at Exeter but surely has more to offer based on her bumper form, with Twyford's Diamond fancied to fill the places.

Far too good for a fair rival when winning on her hurdling debut in January, EASY PEASY has a very good chance to follow up here.

(3) Legionar 18/1, Bumper/novice hurdle winner a few years ago. No impact in 2 handicaps (remote third latest) for Anthony Charlton back from an absence this winter but Harry Cobden has been booked now starting out for new yard. Worth a second look in the betting.
Not at best on either start for Anthony Charlton this season; now with new stable.

(1) Bucksy Des Epeires 13/2, French recruit who made a winning return/yard debut at Lingfield in November prior to chasing home an improver on handicap debut at Sandown (2m) in December. Below that level on both completed starts since but given a chance by the handicapper as a result and the one to beat if back to best.
Strong claims if judged on autumn form but not much has gone to plan lately.

(4) Tedley 6/1, Off the mark at the sixth time of asking over hurdles in 2m Wincanton maiden in February. Found the EBF Final at Sandown too competitive 10 days later but he might fare better in these calmer waters.
Soundly beaten in hot race on handicap debut but still has potential.

Fourth over 2m on both hurdling starts; likely to be suited by today's longer trip.

15:00 Ludlow Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Wincanton winner Tedley was far from disgraced in a warm premier handicap at Sandown last time out and he must be of interest at this lower level, but the vote goes to EL SAVIOUR. The six-year-old recorded a comfortable success at Warwick when pitched into a handicap for the first time and a subsequent 7lb rise might not be enough to stop him. Bucksy Des Epeires should not be underestimated either.

The handicapper has taken a bit of a chance dropping BUCKSY DES EPEIRES to 2 lb lower than when a good second at Sandown in December and he'll take a bit of stopping if back to that form. The progressive El Saviour is the obvious danger.

Preference is for EL SAVIOUR, who was one of two to pull a long way clear of the others when winning on last month's handicap debut.

Kestrel Valley

3/1(+25%)
(1) Kestrel Valley 3/1, Out of depth at Cheltenham Festival latest but gained second success for this yard in comfortable fashion over C&D in January and remains feasibly treated.

(5) Jacamar 5/2, Ended last season on a low-key note but made the frame on several occasions this term. Possibly stretched by extreme trip when below par latest and booking of Cobden catches the eye on debut for new yard.

11/4(+17%)
(3) Georges Saint 11/4, Drew a blank over hurdles for current connections but upped his game since sent chasing, scoring at Ffos Las (19.4f) and Fakenham (21.2f) before a good third at Wincanton (20.2f, heavy) in January. Tries longer trip now and must enter calculations.
Ended 2023 with two wins, and his close third in January was another good effort.

15:30 Ludlow Handicap Chase (Class 3) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

JET PLANE bounced back to form with a victory at Sandown last month following a string of disappointing efforts. Dan Skelton's gelding, whose previous success had come over 3m2f at Newton Abbot in October, is likely to relish stepping back up in trip and gets the vote to handle a 2lb rise from the handicapper. Georges Saint finished third at Wincanton when attempting to land a hat-trick and is respected along with Kestrel Valley, who should find this easier than the Mares' Chase at Cheltenham.

KESTREL VALLEY has upped her game this season and goes particularly well at this course. She can return to winning ways. Georges Saint is feared most.

Preference is for late-blooming mare KESTREL VALLEY, who runs this track very well and will find this easier than her last two races.

Improved third on debut for new yard in a maiden over the same C&D since and may have more to offer now pitched into a handicap. Tongue strap added.
Kept on for third in Huntingdon maiden on stable debut; can progress again in handicaps.

(3) Passing Kate 2/1, Off the mark with a last-gasp success at Leicester in November and added to her tally in ready fashion at Wincanton (15.2f, heavy) on penultimate start. Below par when bidding to follow up from 3 lb out of the weights at Hereford but competes off correct mark here and likely to bounce back.
Won in good style at Wincanton in February and latest run was perfectly respectable.

Royal Deeside

16/5(-7%)
(4) Royal Deeside 16/5, Fairly useful maiden on the Flat and has finished in the money on 3 of his 4 starts since switched to hurdles, including when a clear second to the runaway winner on his handicap debut over C&D (heavy). Provided conditions are not so testing this time, he should have a big part to play.
No match for winner when second over C&D on handicap debut but was clear of the others.

Dundory

5/1(+0%)
(5) Dundory 5/1, Fairly useful Flat winner who stepped up on low-key efforts in maiden company when third off 11 on his handicap debut in this sphere at Wincanton (15.2f, heavy) last month. 2 lb lower now and, if able to build on that, he should pick up a race before long. Cheekpieces refitted.

(6) Fort Nelson 50/1, Modest maiden on the Flat and well held all 3 starts over hurdles in 2022. Huge step forward needed now pitched into a handicap in this sphere on the back of an absence of almost 2 years.

16:00 Ludlow Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

BALHAMBAR has shown some promise recently over hurdles, including when third at Huntingdon last month, and the application of a tongue-tie for his handicap bow may yield enough improvement to see him get off the mark in this sphere. Passing Kate was dropped 3lb for her recent third at Hereford and is capable of going close, while Royal Deeside and Dundory appeal most of the remainder.

The one with the most attractive profile is BALHAMBAR, who achieved a pretty useful level of form on the Flat and he appears to be going the right way in this sphere judged on his latest effort. That was his first start for new connections and further progress is anticipated now that he goes down the handicap route. Royal Deeside and Passing Kate are feared most in that order of preference.

If judged on his Flat ability, BALHAMBAR (nap) could go very well off his opening hurdle mark. Dundory is second choice.

16:30 Ludlow Hunter Chase (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

ISKANDAR PECOS produced a fine effort on his hunter chase debut when runner-up at Haydock and the six-year-old didn't need to repeat that level of performance at Leicester just 10 days later. He is open to further improvement which is unlikely to be the case for his main rivals, Before Midnight and Senior Citizen, who were both more than useful performers in handicap company.

ISKANDAR PECOS has looked a good prospect in a couple of starts under Rules and is fancied to take the finale. Senior Citizen and Before Midnight should give him plenty to think about, though.

The 6yo ISKANDAR PECOS is the progressive one and most likely to give his true running.
