1st (3) (18/1 -50%) Diamond Dice |
18/1(-50%) | (3) Diamond Dice 18/1, Held every chance when departing at the last in point and some promise in bumpers this term. Showed aptitude for hurdling but didn't quite last out when sixth of 12 in novice at Carlisle (17f, soft) just over 2 weeks ago and should do better with that under his belt. May improve for this sharper scenario on second attempt over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (14) (5/1 +38%) Hamsiyann |
5/1(+38%) | (14) Hamsiyann 5/1, Fairly useful Flat winner but well beaten on both starts over hurdles in December. Likely to have more chance in handicaps after this. Irish raider who may show improvement with tongue-tie applied on this British foray. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (13) (2/1 +20%) Golden Maverick |
2/1(+20%) | (13) Golden Maverick 2/1, Fairly useful 5-time winner on the Flat (stays 14.5f) for Ian Williams. New connections acquired him for 100,000 gns in the autumn and made a promising start over hurdles after 4 months off when runner-up in juvenile at Catterick (15.7f, soft) earlier this month. Can go one better. Fairly useful on Flat; clear second at Catterick on the switch to hurdles; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (10/3 +39%) Gentleman Jacques |
10/3(+39%) | (4) Gentleman Jacques 10/3, Fair form in bumpers and has made the frame all 3 starts since switched to hurdles, shaping better than the distance beaten suggested when fourth of 15 at this C&D (soft) a couple of months ago. One to consider with Cobden taking over. Consistent sort who made the frame in C&D events the last twice; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (25/1 -213%) Zoeman |
25/1(-213%) | (9) Zoeman 25/1, Great Pretender gelding was strong in the betting and made a promising start to his career when runner-up in juvenile hurdle at Ffos Las (15.8f, good to firm) in October 2022. Presumably had his problems to not have been seen since but is open to progress. Absent since his fairly promising debut 2nd at Ffos Las in October 2022; check the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (10/3 +0%) Lindy Reilly |
10/3(+0%) | (11) Lindy Reilly 10/3, Kayf Tara mare who was sent off a huge price but produced an encouraging first effort in this sphere from an unpromising position when third of 15 in novice at this C&D (soft) 9 weeks ago, keeping on gradually straight under hands-and-heels riding. Sure to improve. Belied her 50-1 odds with a promising effort in C&D contest just before Christmas. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (22/1 -214%) Tout Sur Moi |
22/1(-214%) | (8) Tout Sur Moi 22/1, Showed some promise in a couple of bumpers and did likewise sent hurdling when sixth of 14 in novice (66/1) at Taunton (16.5f, good to soft) last month. Handicaps later on likely to be more suitable. Showed some promise at Taunton last month on hurdles debut; open to improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (40/1 -100%) Mount Olympus |
40/1(-100%) | (6) Mount Olympus 40/1, Fairly useful handicapper on the Flat who won 3 times in 2023. Better than the distance beaten suggested when tailed-off eighth at Hereford on hurdling debut in November but checked out fairly tamely. Had a wind op and looks one for the longer term. Fair handicapper on Flat; well held on hurdles debut; had wind surgery since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (250/1 -25%) Mo Zola |
250/1(-25%) | (12) Mo Zola 250/1, Won sole start in point bumpers but pulled up all 3 goes over hurdles. Set for another struggle. Point bumper winner; hard to fancy on rules form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (150/1 -275%) Bella Cavalla |
150/1(-275%) | (10) Bella Cavalla 150/1, Milan mare was sent off a big price and went with little immediate promise when well held in a Fontwell bumper (17.7f, soft) last month. Best watched on hurdles bow. Down the field in Fontwell bumper last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (100/1 -300%) Deep Strato |
100/1(-300%) | (2) Deep Strato 100/1, Successful on his sole outing in points but ran below expectations when fourth of 7 in a Sedgefield bumper in November. Shaped better than the distance beaten suggested when well held on hurdling debut at Newcastle a couple of months ago and he should improve (had a wind op). Point winner; disappointing in both rules starts; had wind surgery since latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (8/1 -23%) Karaktere D'enfer |
8/1(-23%) | (15) Karaktere D'enfer 8/1, Close second of 11 to a useful sort in a newcomers race at Fontainebleau last March. Not beaten far when last of 3 on Doncaster British debut in November but, fitted with a first-time tongue tie, finished tailed off at Fontwell (17.7f, heavy) 10 weeks ago. Had a wind op since. Beaten favourite in both British starts but subsequent wind surgery may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (150/1 -50%) Lucky Lugger |
150/1(-50%) | (5) Lucky Lugger 150/1, Little show in 2 bumpers back in 2022. Can only be watched sent hurdling for a new yard (pulled up all 3 starts in points, latest May 2023). No promise in bumpers/points. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (250/1 -150%) Radharc Na Slaine |
250/1(-150%) | (7) Radharc Na Slaine 250/1, Maiden Irish pointer who has shown little in novice/maiden hurdles this winter. Tongue tie on and a huge step forward is required. Has achieved nothing over hurdles; fitting of tongue-tie needs to make a huge difference. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (16) (250/1 -25%) Snow Forecast |
250/1(-25%) | (16) Snow Forecast 250/1, Modest maiden on the Flat. 500/1, first run since leaving Jonathan Portman when tailed-off seventh of 11 in juvenile at Warwick (2m, heavy) on hurdle debut 30 days ago. Weak contender on Flat form; no improvement switched to hurdles at Warwick last month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LINDY REILLY outran big odds to make the frame on her debut over C&D in December and she would have learned a lot. Dan Skelton's mare is less exposed than most of her rivals and can get off the mark. The main danger might be Golden Maverick, who was a fair performer on the Flat before switching to the Jamie Snowden yard, and his second at Catterick earlier in the month gives him a strong chance. Of the remainder, Ffos Las runner-up Zoeman appeals most on his return from the sidelines.
GOLDEN MAVERICK was a big improver on the Flat for Ian Williams in 2023 (5-time handicap winner) and while he was unable to land the odds when finishing runner-up on his hurdling debut at Catterick recently, this looks a good opportunity to go a place better. Lindy Reilly finished with running left on her hurdling bow here 9 weeks ago, so she's put forward as the main threat, with Gentleman Jacques and Zoeman also considered.
Catterick runner-up GOLDEN MAVERICK may well go one better and add to his Flat wins. Lindy Reilly is second choice.

1st (4) (3/1 +33%) Terresita |
3/1(+33%) | (4) Terresita 3/1, Successful 3 times as a novice hurdler but went without a win last season. Promising second on return/chase debut at Huntingdon (19.9f) in January prior to a slightly underwhelming display back at that venue 2 weeks ago. Remains early days in this sphere at least. Disappointing favourite under Harry Cobden last time but may bounce back; on a handy mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/8 +61%) Malaita |
11/8(+61%) | (5) Malaita 11/8, Won back-to-back handicap hurdles at Carlisle and Cheltenham last term and shaped well to make the frame on her first 2 outings over fences. Put a Cheltenham fall behind her when bumping into another well-handicapped sort over C&D last time and she's a player. Has proved consistent in her completed chase starts, runner-up over C&D most recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/1 -50%) Plenty Of Time |
6/1(-50%) | (1) Plenty Of Time 6/1, Not the easiest of rides but was able to take advantage of a good opportunity to land a 4-runner handicap chase at Wincanton (20.2f, soft, 5/2) in December. More on her plate from revised mark here. Campaigned mostly at Wincanton; 2-2 in mares' novice handicap chases; first run here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4/1 -45%) Gazette Bourgeoise |
4/1(-45%) | (3) Gazette Bourgeoise 4/1, Scored twice over hurdles and, though yet to strike in this sphere, she was beaten only a nose on return from 8 months off at Ffos Las (21.5f) in December, idling run-in and collared late on. Bad mistake did for her at Newbury last time and she's still of interest with cheekpieces back on. Went close at Ffos Las on reappearance; lesser effort at Newbury came in a deeper race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (18/1 -227%) Ottoline |
18/1(-227%) | (2) Ottoline 18/1, Imposing sort got off the mark in a Uttoxeter novice hurdle in December but proved a let down for the quick switch to fences in a 3-runner handicap there 25 days ago. Still should make a better chaser and she's not ruled out. Disappointing on chase debut but pedigree suggests she should still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (25/1 -150%) Jane Du Berlais |
25/1(-150%) | (7) Jane Du Berlais 25/1, Made her first completed start over hurdles a successful one at Lingfield in December 2022 but failed to complete on 3 of next 4 starts and jumping let her down on chase debut last month, falling 4 out. Others more persuasive. In touch when falling four out at Wetherby (chase debut) last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (100/1 -52%) Fashion's Model |
100/1(-52%) | (8) Fashion's Model 100/1, Winning pointer who offered a modicum of promise over hurdles during 2021/22 but ended that campaign out of sorts and good deal on her plate from long way out of the weights on belated return/chasing bow. Absent for over two years and is well out of the weights; best watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Malaita failed to justify favouritism when beaten 10 lengths into second over track and trip, and she takes a step up in grade but could still get involved. However, the vote goes to top-weight PLENTY OF TIME, who showed a liking for first-time cheekpieces when bolting up at Wincanton on Boxing Day. The eight-year-old now has a 4lb higher rating to contend with, but may have been let off lightly by the handicapper and can record a double. Ottoline completes the shortlist.
Having finished a good second on return at Ffos Las, GAZETTE BOURGEOISE shaped much better than the distance beaten suggests at Newbury subsequently (bad mistake 4 out) and she could be the way to go with cheekpieces refitted. Malaita and Plenty of Time head the dangers, with Terresita another not out of things.
Back against her own sex, solid contender MALAITA (nap) could well open her chase account. Terresita is second choice.

1st (8) (4/1 +20%) Latin Verse |
4/1(+20%) | (8) Latin Verse 4/1, Fair Flat winner. Struck at the third time of asking over hurdles in Catterick juvenile in November (for this yard). Disappointed at Aintree next time, but returned to form back on not quite so testing ground when runner-up at Huntingdon last month. Now reunited with Syd Hosie for handicap debut. Capable juvenile hurdler and he is now tackling his first handicap as a jumper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (4/1 +0%) Royal Deeside |
4/1(+0%) | (11) Royal Deeside 4/1, Fairly useful maiden on the Flat. Just modest form to date over hurdles but no surprise if he does better now handicapping on slightly quicker ground. Flat maiden; beaten in 3 hurdle races won by useful horses; interesting handicap debutant. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (15/2 +25%) Despereaux |
15/2(+25%) | (2) Despereaux 15/2, Off the mark at Huntingdon on his second start before defying a penalty at Taunton last March. Has disappointed since his comeback run but his mark continues to tumble as a result. Ran moderately last time but not disgraced in two handicaps previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (13/2 +54%) Thankyourluckystar |
13/2(+54%) | (3) Thankyourluckystar 13/2, Made a successful handicap hurdle debut here last March and backed it up with a creditable effort at Market Rasen the following month. Only start since when pulled up on chasing debut here 104 days ago but return to smaller obstacles should help. Just two runs since winning off 4lb lower here last March and latest was over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (11/1 +21%) John Betjeman |
11/1(+21%) | (1) John Betjeman 11/1, Likeable type who turned in a rare poor effort when only eighth at Wincanton 40 days ago. Should be back on his game over more suitable distance. Could have some say back over 2m but he finds winning difficult. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (11/1 -57%) Gower Prince |
11/1(-57%) | (5) Gower Prince 11/1, Showed a bit on the first of 3 starts in bumpers for Matt Sheppard and signs of encouragement a couple of times over hurdles. Needs to up his game from quite a stiff opening mark. Handicaps could see him in a better light; market optimism behind him would boost interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (14/1 +30%) Black Occ |
14/1(+30%) | (7) Black Occ 14/1, Point runner-up who has shown modest form to date over hurdles. 107-day break prior to this handicap debut, so could do better. Lightly raced but makes handicap debut after quite a break and others are safer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (22/1 -267%) Mr Hope Street |
22/1(-267%) | (9) Mr Hope Street 22/1, No impact in maiden/novice hurdles over shorter trips but likely to do better at some point and is worth monitoring in the market on handicap debut. Handicap debutant from a leading yard and it was always going to be tough in latest novice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (9/1 -50%) Evenwood Sonofagun |
9/1(-50%) | (4) Evenwood Sonofagun 9/1, Exposed as a fair hurdler. Creditable third in a novice at Hereford 3 months ago but needs to do more. Frustrating maiden and all his best form is on good or faster ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (33/1 -313%) Heross Du Seuil |
33/1(-313%) | (6) Heross Du Seuil 33/1, Successful at Uttoxeter (19.9f) in September and largely acquitted himself well in defeat since. Not so good the last twice however, so needs to bounce back from this reduced mark. Although a winner in September, his recent efforts have been thoroughly underwhelming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (6/1 +14%) Little Pi |
6/1(+14%) | (10) Little Pi 6/1, Improving type who was most underwhelming in his hat-trick bid at Doncaster last time but can't be discounted considering he was on the up prior to that. Poor last time but definite chance off this mark with a repeat of his Wincanton form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Little Pi produced a poor display when seeking the hat-trick at Doncaster but if he can put that effort behind him, he could get into contention off a 1lb lower mark. However, he is passed over in favour of GOWER PRINCE, who has faded out of contention in three starts for the Nigel Twiston-Davies stable but ran to market expectations on each occasion and better is expected now he enters the handicap ranks. Royal Deeside also makes his handicap bow and needs to be monitored in the market.
Juveniles ROYAL DEESIDE and Latin Verse get a chunk of weight for age and might be able to dominate this handicap, with preference for the former, who looks potentially thrown in on Flat form. Despereaux is the pick of the more exposed types.
Alan King's ROYAL DEESIDE is not the only unexposed handicap debutant but he's been running in races won by good horses.

1st (7) (13/8 +60%) Rockinastorm |
13/8(+60%) | (7) Rockinastorm 13/8, Winless following half a dozen runs over hurdles but already a dual winner in this sphere. Tame showing at Warwick a month ago and mark demands more. Could well rebound under Gina Andrews, the winning rider in this race for last two years. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (5/1 -11%) One True King |
5/1(-11%) | (2) One True King 5/1, Remains well treated on his best form but inconsistent and latest showing at Doncaster was underwhelming. Finished third off 13lb higher in this contest 12 months ago; attractively handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (3/1 +14%) Post Chaise |
3/1(+14%) | (6) Post Chaise 3/1, Creditable third of 10 in handicap hurdle (3/1) at Catterick (25.3f, soft) 41 days ago, travelling as well as any. Scored over fences at Market Rasen on previous outing (awarded race) and should give a good account. Unable to take advantage of lower hurdles mark last time but remains of interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/2 +30%) Dalamoi |
7/2(+30%) | (1) Dalamoi 7/2, Real chasing type who made a positive start in this sphere last season and, while he hasn't really kicked on, his latest fourth at Kempton was a step back in the right direction. Second-season chaser who has possibilities dropped back in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (100/1 -614%) Reve |
100/1(-614%) | (5) Reve 100/1, Unreliable sort who last tasted success here during late 2021. However, essentially disappointing thereafter, pulled up at Southwell (24.2f) when last seen in May 2022. Tough to assess on this belated return for all the handicapper has given him a chance. Defied a 9lb higher mark here in 2021; absent since May 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (9/1 -125%) Didero Vallis |
9/1(-125%) | (3) Didero Vallis 9/1, Disappointed towards the end of last season but more signs of life this term. Respectable second at Catterick 28 days ago and remains potentially well treated, so not ruled out. Respectable second in veterans' event last month; on a three-year losing spell. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
The form of POST CHAISE's last-time-out third over hurdles at Catterick is working out well and, the winner of a chase at Market Rasen the time before, albeit via the stewards' room, he looks to have a big chance in this contest. Didero Vallis lines up off the same mark as when runner-up at Catterick and he is likely to give another good account, while the dropped-in-class Dalamoi also holds claims.
POST CHAISE improved to score over fences at Market Rasen in November (awarded the race) and shaped well from his lower hurdles mark since, so he's the solid choice ahead of Didero Vallis, who underlined that he retains plenty of ability at Catterick. Tide Times goes well at this track and shouldn't be dismissed despite a disappointment last time.
The booking of Gina Andrews sways the vote in favour of novice chaser ROCKINASTORM. Second choice is One True King.

1st (5) (Evens +56%) Monks Meadow |
Evens(+56%) | (5) Monks Meadow Evens, Runner-up on his completed outing in Irish points and has made an encouraging start over hurdles, best effort when second of 8 in novice at Hereford (21.7f, good to soft) 23 days ago, beaten only by an above-average one. Up in trip. Form pick. Consistent under rules, running well at Hereford most recently; leading player on form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (11/2 +83%) Mahland |
11/2(+83%) | (4) Mahland 11/2, Off the mark in points at the second attempt in April and signs of ability in maiden hurdles at Chepstow and Warwick. Needs another run for a handicap mark. Point winner; modest form in 2m3f maiden hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (25/1 -108%) Caher Roes Den |
25/1(-108%) | (1) Caher Roes Den 25/1, Bought for £110,000 after winning an Irish point in April but failed to meet expectations in a novice hurdle at Ayr on Rules debut in December. No match for a pair of fairly useful novices at Market Rasen since. No match for the first two at Market Rasen last time but may improve for return to 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (6/1 -118%) Annie Express |
6/1(-118%) | (10) Annie Express 6/1, £35,000 buy after easily off mark in Irish points at third attempt (Mar 26). Backed up what she was showing on hurdling debut when second at Exeter in December and step up in trip should suit. Big shout. Irish point winner; clear second at Exeter last time out; one of the main contenders. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (16/1 +52%) Pearl Island |
16/1(+52%) | (6) Pearl Island 16/1, Shaped like a stayer when placed in 2 bumpers and similar story on both completed starts over hurdles. Unlikely to be of real interest until handicapping. Something to find on form but is bred to do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (11/2 +0%) Touchwoodexpress |
11/2(+0%) | (9) Touchwoodexpress 11/2, Won sole start in points and close third of 8 in bumper at Worcester 156 days ago, staying on again final 1f. Up significantly in trip on hurdles debut and likely player. Solid promise last year, winning a point then close third in a bumper; enters calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (125/1 -150%) Pippin Took |
125/1(-150%) | (7) Pippin Took 125/1, Showed a bit when fourth in 9-runner bumper at Haydock last season but pulled up on hurdle debut at Hereford in April. Absent since pulled up at Hereford last April; market can guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (11/1 -144%) Fortified Fortune |
11/1(-144%) | (3) Fortified Fortune 11/1, €50,000 3-y-o, £115,000 4-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Half-brother to fair hurdler Undisputed, stayed 21f, and fair hurdler Hidden Glen, stays 27f. Dam placed all 3 starts in bumpers. Runner-up sole start in Irish points (Mar 2023) and one to note. Solid second, splitting subsequent rules winners, in an Irish point; interesting contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (33/1 -633%) River Voyage |
33/1(-633%) | (8) River Voyage 33/1, €15,500 3-y-o, £62,000 5-y-o, Ol' Man River gelding. Dam lightly raced on Flat. Took Irish point in 2022 but well held on hurdles bow at Ffos Las 3 weeks ago. Irish point winner; well beaten at Ffos Las this month on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (200/1 +0%) Catch The Crumpet |
200/1(+0%) | (2) Catch The Crumpet 200/1, No sign of ability 2 starts in bumpers and pulled up at Ffos Las on hurdles bow last time. No promise in three runs over 2m. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MONKS MEADOW has posted a number of solid efforts in defeat, earning him an official rating of 116, and he is fancied to open his account. Annie Express pulled well clear of the remainder when chasing home a useful-looking sort from the Paul Nicholls stable at Exeter in December and she looks an obvious threat, while Fortified Fortune adds further spice to the race. The 115,000-pound purchase was touched off by a subsequent bumper winner on his sole outing between the flags 11 months ago.
ANNIE EXPRESS should be suited by the step up in trip and is preferred to Monks Meadow, who sets a fair standard. Touchwoodexpress was a promising third in a bumper at Worcester in September so also needs considering on hurdles bow.
In terms of hurdles form, consistent MONKS MEADOW is the pick. Interesting rules debutant Fortified Fortune is feared most.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (33/1 +34%) Dancing Dani |
33/1(+34%) | (11) Dancing Dani 33/1, Maiden under Rules and recent efforts make her hard to fancy from out of the weights. Maiden under rules; holds weak claims on this season's hurdles form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (4/1 -78%) Famoso |
4/1(-78%) | (2) Famoso 4/1, Back to winning ways at Hereford in January and shaped well when third here a fortnight ago. Generally going the right way as a chaser, so worth chancing to add to his productive campaign. Form figures since November read 12313; ran well in higher grade over C&D most recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (5/1 +17%) Mister Marbles |
5/1(+17%) | (1) Mister Marbles 5/1, Made all in a Taunton maiden hurdle in March 2022. Just 4 starts since and hasn't taken to chasing. Headgear tried. Currently hard to assess but first-time cheekpieces may have positive effect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (13/2 -246%) Guillaume |
13/2(-246%) | (3) Guillaume 13/2, 2/1, career best when winning 6-runner handicap chase at Catterick (15.7f, soft) 55 days ago, doing better under change of tactics. Not fully exposed, particularly as a chaser, so could do better still. Opened his rules account at Catterick eight weeks ago; may build on that success. |

|U| (7) (3/1 +40%) Gorcombe Moonshine |
3/1(+40%) | (7) Gorcombe Moonshine 3/1, 10/3, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Fontwell (soft) on debut over fences in December. Backed it up with a respectable third at Plumpton and is expected to feature in this thin race. Has taken well to fences, winning at Fontwell then third at Plumpton; enters calculations. |

|PU| (4) (7/1 +0%) Icarat |
7/1(+0%) | (4) Icarat 7/1, Fair form in French bumpers for Nick Littmoden but yet to make a significant impact over obstacles. Behind when unseating 2 out in a handicap at Ffos Las on chasing bow. Well held when unseating rider two out at Ffos Las (11-2 for chase debut) last month. |

|PU| (10) (8/1 +43%) Key Factor |
8/1(+43%) | (10) Key Factor 8/1, Third in a point but has seemed limited to date under Rules (well backed last time). Has not improved over fences but is seemingly thought capable of better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (22/1 +33%) Beannaigh Do |
22/1(+33%) | (9) Beannaigh Do 22/1, Offered more when second on Ffos Las chase debut last spring but has disappointingly failed to build on that, only fifth of 6 in a first-time tongue strap over C&D 14 days ago. Hard to make a case for. Inconsistent maiden; achieved nothing of value here the last twice. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GUILLAUME won with plenty in hand to justify favouritism at Catterick last time and a 5lb rise for that nine-length success may not be enough to stop him here. That said, Famoso has proven to be a consistent performer in recent months and he should not be underestimated. Gorcombe Moonshine edges out Icarat to be best of the rest.
FAMOSO has a solid, upwardly-mobile profile over fences and would likely have gone close but for a late error here last time, so he takes marginal preference over Guillaume, who arrives on the back of a comfortable success at Catterick. Gorcombe Moonshine is also considered.
Having clocked up a good sequence in recent starts, including over C&D, FAMOSO gets the vote ahead of Gorcombe Moonshine.

1st (3) (5/2 +17%) Canty Bay |
5/2(+17%) | (3) Canty Bay 5/2, Landed a Taunton maiden (19f) on return in November and in process of running well when falling at Wincanton next time. Latest third on handicap debut at Lingfield (19.5f) was a creditable display and he could yet have more to offer now his stamina is tested further. Creditable third at Lingfield (handicap debut) last time; respected back down in class. |

2nd (1) (25/1 -79%) Honneur D'ajonc |
25/1(-79%) | (1) Honneur D'ajonc 25/1, Multiple hurdles winner who opened his account over fences at Hereford (20.9f) 13 months ago. However, it's essentially been a struggle since, again finishing well held over fences at Wincanton in January. Return to timber needs to have positive effect. Could revive off this reduced mark dropped in grade and back hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7/2 +42%) Le Grand Lion |
7/2(+42%) | (6) Le Grand Lion 7/2, Lightly-raced 8-y-o who opened his account over hurdles at Huntingdon in December 2021. Absent since finishing down the field over fences in spring the following year but returns from 21 months off with his yard in great nick. Tongue tie on. Worth considering with Harry Cobden booked. Absent since May 2022; well handicapped assuming he retains ability. |

4th (4) (6/4 -9%) Herakles Westwood |
6/4(-9%) | (4) Herakles Westwood 6/4, Fair form in bumpers and firmly on the up over hurdles, bringing up the hat-trick in handicaps when accounting for 10-rivals at Catterick (19.3f) 4 weeks ago, again finding plenty for pressure. Likeable sort and he's firmly in the mix again despite career-high mark. Improving hurdler; 3-4 in handicaps; has to be feared despite another rise in weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (8/1 -7%) Black Kalanisi |
8/1(-7%) | (2) Black Kalanisi 8/1, In good form on the Flat since joining Ian Williams, winning staying events at Pontefract and Newmarket during the autumn. Creditable third back over hurdles at Chepstow (23.6f) in December and no forlorn hope if dispelling a lesser run at Warwick 30 days ago. Possibly not crying out for this drop back to sharp 2m5f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (14/1 -27%) Gentle Victor |
14/1(-27%) | (7) Gentle Victor 14/1, Well held only start in bumpers but some promise on first of 3 starts in novice hurdles during second half of last year. Up in trip for handicap debut following 81 days off, so worth monitoring in the betting for clues. Best RPR at this venue; possible improver back here on handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HERAKLES WESTWOOD arrives here having racked up a hat-trick in recent months and the seven-year-old is clearly the one to beat again, despite a further 6lb rise for his most recent success. Canty Bay made the frame at Lingfield's Winter Million fixture and he could pick up more prize money, while Black Kalanisi and Le Grand Lion are others to note.
LE GRAND LION has a lengthy absence to overcome yet he returns to action from a potentially lenient mark for a yard going great guns and in a first-time tongue tie he could just be worth chancing with Harry Cobden an eye-catching booking. Herakles Westwood has developed into a most likeable sort and he's highly respected in his bid to land the 4-timer. Canty Bay is another to note with his stamina now tested further.
Herakles Westwood is firmly in the winning groove but he's taken on with CANTY BAY.
Ths is the racecard key.
