1st (2) (1.5/1 +20%) Eight Mile |
1.5/1(+20%) | (2) Eight Mile 1.5/1, 5/2, run best excused when fifth of 11 in handicap at this course (7f, AW) 4 days ago, having hopeless task from position. Major player upped in trip.
2nd (4) (6/1 -118%) Doves Of Peace |
6/1(-118%) | (4) Doves Of Peace 6/1, Hooded for 1st time, never involved when seventh of 8 in maiden at this course (5f, AW, 125/1) 34 days ago. May do better upped in trip on his handicap debut.
3rd (6) (9/1 +68%) Deep Spirit |
9/1(+68%) | (6) Deep Spirit 9/1, 22/1, failed to improve for longer trip when seventh of 12 in handicap at this course (1m2f, AW) 28 days ago. Could still have more to offer back down in distance.
4th (7) (6/1 -33%) Empire Of The Sun |
6/1(-33%) | (7) Empire Of The Sun 6/1, Off 4 months (gelded), fifth of 7 in maiden at Chelmsford City (6f, 15/8) 34 days ago, never nearer. Interesting contender as he goes up in distance now handicapping.
5th (9) (9/1 +73%) Alicefromumbridge |
9/1(+73%) | (9) Alicefromumbridge 9/1, Won minor event at this C&D in January. 40/1, lesser effort when eleventh of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 20 days ago. Bounce back called for returned to this venue.
6th (5) (4.5/1 +40%) Downtown Dubai |
4.5/1(+40%) | (5) Downtown Dubai 4.5/1, Ran poorly last 2 starts, sixth of 7 in handicap at Newcastle (1m, 11/1) 41 days ago. Has dropped further in the weights but needs to get back on track.
7th (3) (14/1 -27%) Vaudevillian |
14/1(-27%) | (3) Vaudevillian 14/1, Always behind when tenth of 12 at Wolverhampton on handicap debut (8.6f) 20 days ago. Has work to do. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
With the majority of the field having something to prove at present, the most solid proposition appears to be EIGHT MILE. George Scott's inmate has been shaping as if this step up to a mile could unlock some potential and he looks ready to capitalise. Twilight Kiss's stamina, on the other hand, appeared to be stretched by the 1m2f trip here earlier in the month and she is feared most now returned to this distance. Handicap debutant Doves Of Peace is worth noting in the market.
EIGHT MILE had placed on his first 2 starts of the year before having a hopeless task from his position last time, so he is taken to get back on track and open his account upped in trip. A pair of handicap debutants could be the main dangers, with Empire of The Sun feared most ahead of Doves of Peace.
He may have let his supporters down thus far but EIGHT MILE has more than enough ability to win a race of this nature.

1st (3) (20/1 -11%) Shot |
20/1(-11%) | (3) Shot 20/1, Shaped well enough when fifth at Kempton on debut for Tom Ward in January but was disappointing on 2 subsequent outings for that yard (weak in market both occasions). Another stable switch needs to spark resurgence.
2nd (4) (1.5/1 +20%) Kitbag |
1.5/1(+20%) | (4) Kitbag 1.5/1, C&D winner. Good second of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 18/5) 18 days ago, faring best of those ridden prominently. Remains well treated on best form and he should go well.
3rd (8) (3.6/1 -8%) Mucky Mulconry |
3.6/1(-8%) | (8) Mucky Mulconry 3.6/1, Shaped encouragingly on first run since leaving G. M. Lyons when sixth of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 20 days ago, not at all given hard time. Looks capable of winning from this sort of mark with step back up in trip also likely to suit,
4th (1) (2.25/1 +55%) Ghost Lights |
2.25/1(+55%) | (1) Ghost Lights 2.25/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 11/2, still didn't quite look the finished article when fourth of 9 in maiden at this course (7f, AW) 30 days ago. Respected now handicapping.
5th (2) (28/1 -133%) Victory House |
28/1(-133%) | (2) Victory House 28/1, Runner-up over 9.5f at Wolverhampton in December and filled same position in 3-runner event at Southwell the following month. Looked hard ride under this claimer last time, but possible that drop to sprint trip could see him to better effect.
6th (6) (9/1 +25%) Sajwaan |
9/1(+25%) | (6) Sajwaan 9/1, Bit below form fifth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 10/1) 18 days ago, doing too much too soon. Has a couple of respectable efforts from this sort of mark to his name and he's not ruled out making the frame.
7th (7) (16/1 -45%) Lashes |
16/1(-45%) | (7) Lashes 16/1, MId-field at best across 8 starts for 3 different trainers in Ireland. Worth a market check with hood applied on debut for another new yard.
8th (5) (50/1 -25%) Penny Be |
50/1(-25%) | (5) Penny Be 50/1, Promise when fifth in minor event at Salisbury on debut but it's been backwards steps both starts since and others are preferred on her handicap bow. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A 1lb rise in the handicap for KITBAG's runner-up effort at Wolverhampton earlier this month looks more than fair and Jack Channon's gelding is fancied to add a second C&D win to his name. Sumac wasn't disgraced when second in a classified stakes contest at Southwell recently and he should remain competitive on this return to handicap company, while Sajwaan could prove dangerous if allowed to dictate on the front end.
MUCKY MULCONRY caught the eye on his debut for Michael Wigham at Wolverhampton earlier in the month and he could well be one to keep on side at this low level, with the extra furlong here likely to suit. Charles Hills' handicap newcomer Ghost Lights heads the dangers ahead of Kitbag and Sumac.
After an eyecatching stable debut three weeks ago MUCKY MULCONRY can take a big step forward. Kitbag looks best of the rest.

8.5/1(+6%) | (9) Cappananty Con 8.5/1, 3-time C&D winner. Thirty four runs since last win in 2021. Not seen to best effect when fourth of 8 in handicap (4/1) at this C&D (AW) 24 days ago, denied clear run final 1f. Lurks on a dangerous mark.

12/1(-118%) | (10) Viewfromthestars 12/1, Looked unlucky not to open his account when second of 9 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 16 days ago, headway when denied a run over 1f out. Respected despite his wide draw.
8th (4) (18/1 -350%) Toplight |
18/1(-350%) | (4) Toplight 18/1, Continued run of good form when winning 7-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f, 5/6) 21 days ago by length from Autumn Flight. Not taken lightly in his current mood.

25/1(+0%) | (7) Deputise 25/1, Thirty runs since last win in 2018. Sixth of 7 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 20/1) 17 days ago, left poorly placed. Tongue strap on 1st time. Others more persuasive.
10th (1) (3.5/1 +56%) Champagne Supanova |
3.5/1(+56%) | (1) Champagne Supanova 3.5/1, C&D winner. Left poorly placed when third of 7 in handicap at this course (7f, AW, 28/1) 79 days ago. Blinkers back on and is 2 lb below his last winning mark. Task is to build on his latest effort.
11th (3) (3.5/1 +7%) My Boy Jack |
3.5/1(+7%) | (3) My Boy Jack 3.5/1, In first-time blinkers, off the mark at Wolverhampton in February. Again ran well when second of 9 in handicap at Southwell (6.1f, 7/2) 17 days ago. Leading contender.
12th (6) (11/1 -10%) Real Estate |
11/1(-10%) | (6) Real Estate 11/1, 3-time C&D winner, including in January. 28/1, ran well when second of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (6f) 20 days ago, nearest finish having been drawn widest. Merits consideration back here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Toplight regained the winning thread over 5f at Wolverhampton a few weeks ago and clearly arrives in fine fettle. Nevertheless, he hasn't convinced over this distance of 6f in the past and may prove worth taking on. REAL ESTATE found himself with too much to do when a never-nearer second at Chelmsford recently and makes most appeal now returned to the C&D of his last success. Dark Design and Champagne Supanova also merit consideration.
With blinkers applied, MY BOY JACK has bounced back to his best on his last 2 starts, getting off the mark at Wolverhampton before running at least as well when runner-up at Southwell. The 4-y-o can score again in his current form, though Viewfromthestars is respected despite his wide draw. Toplight completes the shortlist.
Plenty of possibles in an open sprint. REAL ESTATE is marginally preferred to Dark Design.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
SHARP POWER bumped into a couple of nice prospects when finishing a good third at Southwell earlier this month. The son of Churchill kept on well over 6f that occasion and he should open his account, with improvement likely at this longer trip. Andrew Balding's string often improve for their initial racecourse experience and that could be the case with Sceptic, who was far from disgraced on his debut at Newmarket last October. Sugar Hill makes plenty of appeal on paper and is worth monitoring in the betting ahead of his first start.
SCEPTIC was popular in the betting when fourth in a Newmarket maiden and he could take a big step forward 154 days on with the benefit of that experience, so he's marginally preferred to Sharp Power, who has the best form on show. Newcomer Sugar Hill also makes plenty of appeal on paper.
Sharp Power is a big threat upped to 7f but SCEPTIC shaped well in a Newmarket novice on his one run last season and gets the nod.

11/1(-10%) | (3) Miss Harmony 11/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Creditable fourth of 9 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f, 7/2) 20 days ago. Worthy of consideration.
2nd (4) (1.5/1 +33%) Rubina Rose |
1.5/1(+33%) | (4) Rubina Rose 1.5/1, Lightly-raced winner. 4/1 and hooded for 1st time, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 35 days ago, well on top finish. Solid claims.
3rd (2) (28/1 -75%) How Hard Can It Be |
28/1(-75%) | (2) How Hard Can It Be 28/1, Last of 6 in handicap (8/1) at Kempton (11f) 37 days ago. Has a bit to prove on the back of latest effort.
4th (5) (0.8/1 +33%) Cantora |
0.8/1(+33%) | (5) Cantora 0.8/1, Promising sort. Two wins from 5 runs last year. 8/11, career best when winning 10-runner nursery at Redcar (8f, heavy), slowly away. Off 150 days. Up in trip. Open to further improvement and should take the beating. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
George Boughey has enjoyed a fairly productive start to the campaign and it would be no surprise were Cantora to land her hat-trick following a 150-day absence. However, preference is for RUBINA ROSE, who took a significant step forward when winning over an extended 1m1f at Wolverhampton last month and a further step up in trip shouldn't be an issue for the lightly-raced daughter of Nathaniel. Recent Chelmsford scorer Star From Afarhh can chase them home.
CANTORA won both her outings in nurseries last year and promises to be well suited by this longer trip, so she's preferred to Rubina Rose, who is also on the up. Star From Afarhh is the clear pick of the remaining trio.
The three-year-olds CANTORA and Rubina Rose may well have too much potential for their older rivals.

Imperial Cult |
(4) (6/1 +50%)6/1(+50%) | (4) Imperial Cult 6/1, Left Mark Hoad and significantly improved for the switch to handicaps when third at this C&D (AW) 42 days ago. Entitled to be in the mix again on that form.
1st (3) (20/1 +9%) Lunar Shadow |
20/1(+9%) | (3) Lunar Shadow 20/1, C&D winner. Dual hurdles scorer in the summer was possibly amiss when pulled up in handicap hurdle at Worcester (20f, good to soft) last time. Market good guide on return from 6-month absence.
2nd (2) (6.5/1 -18%) Anisoptera |
6.5/1(-18%) | (2) Anisoptera 6.5/1, Course winner. Placed 2 starts before turning a rare poor effort to finish 16¾ lengths sixth of 7 to Sausalito in handicap at this C&D (AW, 4/1) 6 days ago. Type to bounce back quickly.
3rd (1) (0.5/1 +50%) Sausalito |
0.5/1(+50%) | (1) Sausalito 0.5/1, Completed 5-timer when winning 7-runner handicap at this C&D (AW) 6 days ago, readily. Carries penalty. Shortlist material with another good-value claimer aboard.
4th (5) (7.5/1 -7%) Hooves Like Jagger |
7.5/1(-7%) | (5) Hooves Like Jagger 7.5/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 6/1, creditable third of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (16.6f) 18 days ago. Consistent sort should give another good account down in trip.
5th (9) (11/1 -10%) Hill Station |
11/1(-10%) | (9) Hill Station 11/1, Again ran creditably when 1½ lengths second of 5 to Abstract in handicap at this C&D (AW) 23 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Gary Moore. Place claims.
6th (7) (20/1 +9%) Abstract |
20/1(+9%) | (7) Abstract 20/1, Sole career win came over C&D in March. Found life tougher under a penalty when fifth of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 14 days ago. Others make more appeal.
7th (6) (14/1 +36%) Broad Appeal |
14/1(+36%) | (6) Broad Appeal 14/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2020. Bit below form fifth of 10 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f, 12/1) 72 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
There has been no stopping the Gary Moore-trained SAUSALITO, who arrives here on a six-timer following a facile success over C&D earlier this month. He has to shoulder a 5lb penalty for that win, but that may not be enough to hold him back here. Hooves Like Jagger could benefit from a shorter stamina test having lost second inside the final furlong over an extended 2m last time out and is feared ahead of Abstract.
SAUSALITO is on a real roll at present and a 5 lb penalty shouldn't be enough to stop him extending his winning sequence to six. Anisoptera didn't give her running behind the selection last time but her overall profile is positive for this type of event, whilst Hooves Like Jagger is a reliable sort and can also make the placings.
The addition of a visor has been revelatory for SAUSALITO (nap) and Gary Moore's thriving 4yo can make it six wins on the bounce.

8th (1) (3.33/1 +5%) Pablo Del Pueblo |
3.33/1(+5%) | (1) Pablo Del Pueblo 3.33/1, 11/4, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at this C&D (AW) 24 days ago by length from Man On A Mission, keeping on well. Should go well again.
9th (9) (22/1 -57%) Storm Melody |
22/1(-57%) | (9) Storm Melody 22/1, 3-time C&D winner. 8/1, won 8-runner handicap at this C&D (AW) 27 days ago. One to consider. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A comfortable winner over C&D earlier this month, STORM MELODY can have another big say in proceedings now rated 3lb higher for that success and the gelded son of Royal Applause should not be taken lightly. Pablo Del Pueblo is likely to enter the reckoning, despite having to shoulder top-weight, while Lynns Boy and Bezzas Lad add further spice to the mix.
MAN ON A MISSION has been thriving for a while and did well in the circumstances when third at Southwell last time, so a chance is taken on him returned to the track that suits him well. Pablo Del Pueblo beat the selection here last time and is an obvious danger, while Lynns Boy can't be ruled out.
Pablo Del Pueblo might not get his own way up front and perhaps MAN ON A MISSION can pick up the pieces if a pace duel ensues.
Ths is the racecard key.
