1st (2) (1/4 +50%) Butch |
1/4(+50%) | (2) Butch 1/4, Progressed into a useful performer over hurdles last season and promises to make an even better chaser, so good chance he can make a winning start in this sphere after 10 months off. This trip is on the tight side for his chase debut he's the most talented of these. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (12/1 -71%) Abbeydale |
12/1(-71%) | (1) Abbeydale 12/1, Fairly useful 2m hurdler for Gordon Elliott but he was a below-par ninth at Ayr for his new yard in April and suffered a nasty experience sent chasing after 7 months off at Bangor 6 weeks ago, taking a very heavy fall 5 out when still towards rear. He fell mid-race on his switch to fences in a handicap at Bangor. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (18/5 -44%) Farnoge |
18/5(-44%) | (3) Farnoge 18/5, Winner of first 3 starts under Rules, including novice hurdles at Newton Abbot/Ascot. Pulled up twice before getting back on track in a first-time tongue strap when third in a Perth listed event in the spring. Failed to meet expectations on chase bow/return but yard in better form now. Headgear on. Dual hurdle winner; ran okay on chase debut despite failing favourite backers. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
BUTCH showed a fine attitude with his narrow-margin successes at Cheltenham last season and Olly Murphy's gelding has shaped as though fences will bring about another level of improvement. Farnoge looked to need his first run in this discipline at Wetherby and is expected to step forward, but Abbeydale has something to find on the figures and a bit to prove with regards to his jumping having fallen at Bangor last time.
BUTCH was comfortably the best of these over hurdles and will make a chaser, so there's every chance he can make a winning start in this sphere. Farnoge is next best.
Olly Murphy's BUTCH was the best of these over hurdles and should be difficult to beat with a trouble-free round.

1st (3) (5/1 +64%) Henry Box Brown |
5/1(+64%) | (3) Henry Box Brown 5/1, Gained a first success over fences at Worcester (20f) in August but well held since. Others are more appealing. Led late on at Worcester (2m4f, good; fine on softer) in August but below par since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (10/3 -105%) Northern Reel |
10/3(-105%) | (4) Northern Reel 10/3, Irish point winner who is going the right way and got off the mark under Rules in 8-runner handicap chase at Leicester last month. Good second at Southwell a week later and expected to be bang there again. In form but heading up the weights and ground this slow might not be ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (25/1 -150%) Thirsty Farmer |
25/1(-150%) | (7) Thirsty Farmer 25/1, Well backed and off the mark in a weak handicap hurdle on return from 8 months off at Stratford in May 2022. Not seen since, however, so market may prove best guide on belated chase bow. Last seen in May 2022 when winning a 2m6f handicap hurdle at Stratford off this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (20/1 -100%) Knocknagappagh |
20/1(-100%) | (1) Knocknagappagh 20/1, Long-standing maiden who was runner-up on 3 of first 4 starts over fences but little impact 3 starts since, including on yard debut/return last month. Runner-up three times over fences but remains a maiden and ran poorly last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (10/3 +63%) Jumbo Veste Verte |
10/3(+63%) | (6) Jumbo Veste Verte 10/3, Poor maiden hurdler who was given a considerate introduction to chasing at Market Rasen (21f) 6 weeks ago. Needs a lot more in first-time headgear. These conditions should suit him better than those when well beaten on his chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (3/1 +0%) Jikala |
3/1(+0%) | (2) Jikala 3/1, French import who landed Hereford juvenile in March 2023. Off 20 months before an encouraging sixth of 8 in handicap chase here (22.7f, soft) on her debut over fences 23 days ago, close up until a blunder 3 out. No surprise to see her take a sizeable step forward now. Encouraging chase debut here 23 days ago on the back of a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (20/1 -67%) Staar |
20/1(-67%) | (8) Staar 20/1, Just one effort of note under Rules, namely when going close in a Wincanton handicap hurdle in December 2022. Not so good in 4 subsequent starts, though, including over fences. Off 9 months. Unseated on chase debut and jumping lacked fluency when tailed off at Fontwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (18/1 +28%) Outback Frontiers |
18/1(+28%) | (5) Outback Frontiers 18/1, Twice a winner over hurdles, latterly at Stratford (18.7f) in July. However, has made a discouraging start to his chasing career last 2 starts. Won twice over hurdles but has offered little in two chases, with and without cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (33/1 0%) Can't Buy Time |
33/1(0%) | (9) Can't Buy Time 33/1, No show in 5 starts over hurdles and chase bow/return but did at least offer a glimmer of hope fitted in this headgear when fourth at Fontwell 18 days ago. Showed more in the blinkers at Fontwell (2m5f, soft) latest but still beaten nearly 18l. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
NORTHERN REEL was an impressive winner here over a longer trip before finishing runner-up at Southwell when turned out under a penalty. The six-year-old has clearly benefited from the switch to fences and wouldn't need to have improved much based on her opposition. Jumbo Veste Verte may appreciate wearing cheekpieces for the first time, while any market support for the returning Thirsty Farmer would make him of interest.
NORTHERN REEL has taken well to this sphere and has a good chance of resuming winning ways with most of her rivals arriving with something to prove. Jikala shaped well back from a long absence on chase bow here earlier this month and is a clear next best.
This isn't a strong race and JIKALA ran a lot better than her margin of defeat implies here 23 days ago.

1st (5) (6/4 +45%) Superbolt |
6/4(+45%) | (5) Superbolt 6/4, No great shakes over hurdles/on the Flat in Ireland but has upped his game for new yard, gaining reward for string of runners-up efforts when winning 5-runner handicap chase at Ludlow (23.8f) 24 days ago, leading approaching last and drawing clear on Flat. Player once more. Up 6lb since his Ludlow win this month but Jamie Brace claims 7lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (5/2 +0%) Latenightrumble |
5/2(+0%) | (2) Latenightrumble 5/2, Four-time point winner who surpassed his hurdles form when making a winning handicap chase debut at Wetherby (24.2f) 21 days ago, only prevailing inexperience preventing him running out a more decisive winner. Remains unexposed and big shout up 6 lb. Won handicap debut at Wetherby and the front two pulled clear; raised 6lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/1 +36%) Nine Nine Nine |
9/1(+36%) | (6) Nine Nine Nine 9/1, Won twice here earlier this year, latterly a C&D handicap in March and ended campaign with solid fourth of 9 in handicap chase (3/1) at Bangor (24.1f, soft) in April. Looked rusty and never figured after 7 months off when pulled up at Uttoxeter (20f, heavy) 5 weeks ago. Dual course winner; reportedly scoped dirty after pulling up at Uttoxeter last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (3/1 +25%) Peejaybee |
3/1(+25%) | (1) Peejaybee 3/1, Successful 3 times over hurdles and notched second win in this sphere when accounting for 6 rivals at Perth (2½m, soft) in September. Creditable placed efforts both outings since and this step back up in trip rates a likely plus here. Won 2m4f/3m chases this year and has run solid races in defeat the last twice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (16/1 -14%) D'jo Dela Barriere |
16/1(-14%) | (3) D'jo Dela Barriere 16/1, Struck at the second time of asking for Evan Williams in 2m Hereford novice hurdle last month. Struggled to make an impact returned to this sphere when fourth of 5 in handicap chase at Plumpton (19.8f) 12 days ago. Steps back up in trip now. Novice hurdle winner; make an early mistake when beaten 16l in a handicap chase latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LATENIGHTRUMBLE made a successful handicap debut at Wetherby earlier in the month and the slight drop back in trip is unlikely to prove an inconvenience to the seven-year-old, who is a half-brother to smart hunter/cross country chaser Latenightpass. Peejaybee is capable of a decent showing back up in distance, while others for the shortlist include Superbolt and Wild Side Of Life.
LATENIGHTRUMBLE found only prevailing inexperience preventing him running out an even more decisive winner when taking a 10-runner handicap chase at Wetherby 21 days ago, and with further progress in the offing, he makes plenty of appeal in his follow-up bid. Fellow last-time-out winner Superbolt heads up the dangers, with Wild Side of Life another not dismissed lightly having been well backed on his chase debut at Musselburgh 4 weeks ago.
Ludlow winner SUPERBOLT looks weighted to follow up with Jamie Brace taking 7lb off his back.

1st (5) (9/2 +44%) Ronnies Reflection |
9/2(+44%) | (5) Ronnies Reflection 9/2, Little to shout about over hurdles but showed more following a second wind op when third on return/chase debut in an 8-runner handicap over C&D where he was ½-length adrift of runner-up Everyonesacritic. Pulled up at Market Rasen on Boxing Day, however. Third of eight on chase debut here but ran no race at Market Rasen on Boxing Day. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/1 -56%) Overabottleofred |
7/1(-56%) | (1) Overabottleofred 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden hurdler who posted a very good third of 10 in handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (23.3f) in May. Goes chasing on her return and this promising pointer is very much one to consider. Off since May but that was a good run on handicap debut and she has the same mark here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/4 +10%) Everyonesacritic |
9/4(+10%) | (6) Everyonesacritic 9/4, Winning hurdler who fared better than previously in this sphere when second over C&D 3 weeks ago and needs considering off the same mark. Early days over fences and he was second to an unexposed winner over C&D 23 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (15/8 +32%) Gavroche D'allier |
15/8(+32%) | (4) Gavroche D'allier 15/8, Consistent rather than progressive over hurdles in 2022/23. Positives to take from his yard/chase debut third here (2½m, soft) back from a 20-month absence and he is entitled to come on for that run with headgear re-fitted. Beaten about 15l on chase/stable debut; it wasn't a bad run and this race is weak. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (11/1 -57%) Racing Snake |
11/1(-57%) | (2) Racing Snake 11/1, Won 3 of 4 starts in points but limited impact in hunter chase/both starts over hurdles in 2022. 3-4 in points but modest form under rules in a hunter chase and two hurdle races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (13/2 +68%) Mako Of The Glade |
13/2(+68%) | (3) Mako Of The Glade 13/2, Fair form when reaching the frame in 2 juvenile hurdles in France in autumn 2021 but no impact in 4 runs following a lengthy absence for this yard, including on chase bow/return. Headgear on. Ability in France but has shown little for current yard, including on recent chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
OVERABOTTLEOFRED remains unexposed and put in a career best when last seen in a novice handicap hurdle over an extended 2m7f at Uttoxeter in May. If she transfers that form to fences on her return to action, Tom Gretton's mare could be hard to stop. Ronnies Reflection pulled up at Market Rasen on Boxing Day so Everyonesacritic might be the chief threat.
GAVROCHE D'ALLIER offered something to work on back from a long absence when third on chase/yard debut here 4 weeks ago so gets the vote with improvement on the cards. Everyonesacritic and Overabottleofred are others to consider.
Most of these have questions to answer but EVERYONESACRITIC did at least run okay last time behind an unexposed winner.

1st (5) (11/4 +54%) We Got Your Back |
11/4(+54%) | (5) We Got Your Back 11/4, Winless but has been given a chance by the handicapper. Failed to beat a rival when last seen at Worcester 118 days ago, so needs to bounce back. 0-13 under rules but potentially well handicapped and a hood returns after 5 races without. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 -7%) Lady Pretender |
2/1(-7%) | (3) Lady Pretender 2/1, Fairly useful hurdler/chaser in France and produced most encouraging effort for this yard when third at Wincanton 11 days ago. Will take all the beating if she can build on that. Beaten under 3l after a positive ride at Wincanton; that was her best run for this yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (4/1 +20%) Begin The Luck |
4/1(+20%) | (1) Begin The Luck 4/1, Deservedly got his head back in front when capitalising on a lower hurdles mark at Stratford (18.7f, heavy) in October. Decent third returned to this sphere at Southwell next time and shaped as if still in form at Wincanton 23 days ago. Last run wasn't his best but he has the form to feature in this modest a contest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/2 +42%) Jackpot Cash |
7/2(+42%) | (2) Jackpot Cash 7/2, Showed ability over hurdles last term and may have needed outing when seventh of 8 in handicap chase at Chepstow (16f, good, 28/1) on debut over fences. Fell at Ludlow 24 days ago but isn't one to write off. This is just his third run over fences; possible improver in a modest handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (12/1 -300%) Time To Dazzle |
12/1(-300%) | (4) Time To Dazzle 12/1, Modest winner at 19f over hurdles. 50/1, second of 6 in handicap chase at Ludlow (16f, soft) 10 days ago. Should be involved again in a weak race. Front-running second at Ludlow ten days ago in a race that rather fell apart. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LADY PRETENDER bounced back to form when third over just shy of 2m at Wincanton 11 days ago and a reproduction of that level of form may well be good enough to take this contest. Time To Dazzle appeared to improve for a wind operation when second at Ludlow recently and is likely to be the main danger. The rest have questions to answer, but Jackpot Cash is the pick of them.
LADY PRETENDER took a firm step in the right direction when third at Wincanton last time and makes most appeal given how well handicapped she is on her French form. Time To Dazzle arrives on the back of a solid showing and can also make his presence felt, while Jackpot Cash isn't one to rule out.
The mare LADY PRETENDER emerged from the shadows with an improved effort at Wincanton and she edges preference.

1st (8) (11/8 +50%) Hunter Legend |
11/8(+50%) | (8) Hunter Legend 11/8, Signed off last season by winning heavy-ground Lingfield and Bangor handicaps and got right back on track when runner-up at Wincanton last time. Seems to have found an ideal opening here. Appreciated getting back on soft ground when second to the favourite at Wincanton latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/2 -57%) Invincible Nao |
11/2(-57%) | (3) Invincible Nao 11/2, Opened chase account with a wide-margin victory at Fakenham (21f, soft) in February before finishing a fine second at Sandown. Failed to beat a rival at Sandown on return but should strip fitter for it. Last season went well and may have needed his comeback run at Sandown. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (8/1 +27%) Champagnesuperover |
8/1(+27%) | (2) Champagnesuperover 8/1, Dual chaser winner around 3m in spring 2022. Lightly raced since and considerately handled when tenth of 15 in handicap chase at Bangor (20.3f, soft) on latest completed start (fell at Southwell last time). Got no further than the first at Southwell last time after a wind operation. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (8/1 +0%) High Treason |
8/1(+0%) | (4) High Treason 8/1, Fairly useful winning hurdler who made a promising chase debut at Newbury in November. Ran no sort of race at Fontwell subsequently but it's too soon to write him off in this sphere. Found Fontwell too tight last time; chase debut was okay and he's not badly treated. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (18/1 -29%) Golden Whisky |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Golden Whisky 18/1, Hurdle and multiple chase winner who has looked to retain ability back from an absence this year, returning to fences with a solid showing over C&D last time. Mark is potentially lenient. Down the weights and second run back from an absence was more encouraging (over C&D). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (8/1 -45%) William Cody |
8/1(-45%) | (5) William Cody 8/1, Bagged fourth success over fences when taking 5-runner handicap chase at Huntingdon in November and wasn't disgraced at Southwell last time. One to consider. Below par in his latest run 12 days ago and might be a shade high in the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (25/1 -178%) Sheldon |
25/1(-178%) | (1) Sheldon 25/1, Dual winner last season who shaped as if still in form when last seen at Sandown 9 months ago. Needs a career best on this return, so it's a big ask. Should be in the mix if sufficiently straight after his break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (11/2 +21%) Awaythelad |
11/2(+21%) | (6) Awaythelad 11/2, A dual winning hurdler around 2m4f who has shaped with encouragement on both chase outings, again hitting the frame at Southwell last time. Should have more to offer and makes appeal in a thin race.4 Dual hurdle winner; chase debut was better than latest attempt but ability is respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
HUNTER LEGEND left an underwhelming seasonal return well behind when second over this trip at Wincanton last time and Venetia Williams' seven-year-old sets the standard following that performance. Awaythelad was a bit disappointing when well held at Southwell most recently but it is far too soon to be writing him off, while similar comments apply to High Treason and William Cody.
HUNTER LEGEND finished last season well and returned to form with an excellent second to a well-treated rival at Wincanton last time. This looks easier and he's preferred to Awaythelad, who is unexposed as a chaser. Invincible Nao can also be considered.
The ground and trip look ideal for HUNTER LEGEND (nap) to build on his solid effort in defeat at Wincanton.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
