1st (1) (6/5 +52%) Cresta Cat |
6/5(+52%) | (1) Cresta Cat 6/5, Firmly back on track returned to testing ground in recent weeks, supplementing his narrow Brighton victory in good style at Nottingham (10.2f, heavy) 4 days ago. Big shout in hat-trick bid under a penalty. Penalised for recent Nottingham win which was clearcut; that was 1m2f but he stays 1m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (12/1 -33%) Fiddlers Green |
12/1(-33%) | (7) Fiddlers Green 12/1, Resurgent earlier this year, successful at Kempton (12f) in February prior to running out a ready winner in handicaps at Bath/Doncaster in April. Recent efforts not so inspiring though, dropping away from 2f out when sixth of 13 in handicap at Bath (13f, soft) 27 days ago. Three wins earlier this year but down the field in three starts after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (9/2 +36%) Red Derek |
9/2(+36%) | (8) Red Derek 9/2, Infrequent winner but plenty of good efforts when the mud is flying, encouraging return from 11 months off when second of 7 in handicap at this course (10f, heavy) 13 days ago, clear of rest. Claims of hitting the frame with a repeat from unchanged mark. Returning from a long absence when runner-up over 1m2f on heavy here 13 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (9/2 +0%) Fen Tiger |
9/2(+0%) | (10) Fen Tiger 9/2, C&D winner. Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. Creditable third of 10 in handicap at Brighton (11.9f, good to soft, 7/2) 20 days ago. Comes here in good heart and sound claims of hitting the frame. Won this two years ago on heavy and returns in a good run of form; solid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (25/1 +0%) Foveros |
25/1(+0%) | (5) Foveros 25/1, Exploits mixed on the Flat earlier this term and he never threatened after 3 months off when sixth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Warwick (21f, good) 25 days ago. Others make greater appeal despite sliding mark. Second over hurdles in the spring but modest efforts under both codes since then. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (20/1 -67%) Cherryhawk |
20/1(-67%) | (4) Cherryhawk 20/1, Ended last season in good form and built on promising yard/reappearance second when going one place better at Chepstow (12f, heavy) in May. Not in same form after 3 days off at Newbury later that month and no surprise to see her back to form returning from a break. Off since May but has the form to feature and she'll handle the conditions. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (22/1 +33%) Sameem |
22/1(+33%) | (6) Sameem 22/1, Latest win at Ripon (12f) in June. 22/1, ninth of 14 in handicap at Redcar (10f, soft) 10 days ago. Step back up in trip rates a likely plus now at least. Ran moderately last time but has won after similar performances in the past. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (80/1 -60%) First Cut |
80/1(-60%) | (9) First Cut 80/1, Lightly-raced maiden on Flat for William Knight. Offered little both starts over hurdles for new yard this autumn and only market support would make him of interest returned to this sphere. Regressive during light Flat career and since finished tailed off in two maiden hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (9/1 -29%) Shield Of Honour |
9/1(-29%) | (11) Shield Of Honour 9/1, Winner at Yarmouth in July. 8/1, right back on song when good second of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f) 30 days ago, caught close home but well clear of the remainder. Possibilities for all he needs to prove his effectiveness on ground this testing. Chance on this season's peak efforts but ground this testing is the main concern. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (18/1 -440%) Liberated Lad |
18/1(-440%) | (3) Liberated Lad 18/1, Enjoyed an excellent 2024, gaining a fourth success of the campaign in 8-runner Southwell handicap (11.1f) 4 weeks ago, digging deep under pressure. Equally as effective on turf and respected for all his revised mark now demands more. Bang in form and probably still on a reasonable mark but conditions are offputting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (125/1 -400%) Mind Hunter |
125/1(-400%) | (2) Mind Hunter 125/1, Modest hurdles winner (stays 16.7f) who has been absent since finishing down the field in 14-runner Ffos Las handicap (15.8f) back in December 2022. Likely best watched on this belated return. Winning hurdler in early 2022 but lost his way later that year and absent since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
CRESTA CAT has shown a distinct preference for soft going and won with any amount in hand at Nottingham just four days ago. He can defy a 5lb penalty and land the hat-trick, with this extra distance not a problem. It was heavy ground when Fen Tiger won this in 2022 and another bold bid looks on the cards competing off the same mark. The progressive Liberated Lad and Cherryhawk are others worthy of consideration.
CRESTA CAT has been resurgent returned to testing ground of late, following up his Brighton victory with plenty to spare at Nottingham 4 days ago. Wisely turned out under a penalty, he gets the nod to complete the hat-trick back up in trip. Cherryhawk, back from a break, Fen Tiger and Red Derek head up the dangers, with Liberated Lad another to consider.
Although winless since taking this two years ago, FEN TIGER has been running well and being proven on the ground ticks a big box.

1st (2) (11/4 -10%) Ann Terry |
11/4(-10%) | (2) Ann Terry 11/4, Lightly-raced maiden who matched pick of her form when second of 11 in maiden at Pontefract (6f, good to soft, 9/1) 32 days ago. Not out of things with a repeat. Returned to her debut form when runner-up over 6f at Pontefract (good to soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (10/11 +67%) Fleetwater |
10/11(+67%) | (1) Fleetwater 10/11, Fair filly. Winner at Windsor (6f) in July. 7/1, respectable third of 12 in novice at Newmarket (7f, soft) 5 days ago, no extra final 1f. Return to sprinting in her favour on that evidence and rider takes off a valuable 3 lb. Ran well on soft at Newmarket last week when stretched by the 7f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/2 -43%) Be An Angel |
5/2(-43%) | (3) Be An Angel 5/2, Twilight Son filly. Half-sister to 6f winner Runaround Sioux. Ran to a fair level when second of 5 in a C&D novice on debut 13 days ago, green before making good progress and just failing. Likely to have derived plenty from that and she's of definite interest here. The ground was heavy when going close on her C&D debut 13 days ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BE AN ANGEL was beaten only a neck over C&D on debut, despite showing signs of inexperience. Rod Millman's filly handled the testing going perfectly well on that occasion and can open her account with normal improvement. Ann Terry put a couple of lesser efforts behind her when finishing a solid second at Pontefract last month and she makes more appeal than the penalised Fleetwater and Impatiently.
BE AN ANGEL produced a promising first effort amid greenness when just touched off in a C&D novice 2 weeks ago and with conditions holding no fears, she's fancied to go one place better with progress anticipated. Fleetwater is narrowly preferred to Ann Terry for the forecast.
Fleetwater edges Ann Terry for second preference but BE AN ANGEL went close on her debut here when the ground was heavy.

1st (5) (10/1 +0%) Beltadaay |
10/1(+0%) | (5) Beltadaay 10/1, Son of Adaay who hasn't shaped with a great deal of promise in trio of novice/maiden contests in recent months. Gelded ahead of nursery debut and progress needed if he's to feature. Promising second run and could show the benefit from being gelded; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/1 -122%) Laurens Dream |
5/1(-122%) | (3) Laurens Dream 5/1, Showed more than previously when fourth on qualifying run at Catterick (7f) in October and caught the eye when third of 7 in nursery at Yarmouth (7f, soft, 8/1) 13 days ago, running on late having had to wait to launch her challenge. One to be interested in on that evidence. Did her best work late at Yarmouth, finishing right behind Unex Friendly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (13/8 +54%) Zadkiel |
13/8(+54%) | (2) Zadkiel 13/8, Lightly-raced maiden. Cheekpieces on for 1st time, very good third of 11 in nursery at this course (6f, heavy, 22/1) 20 days ago, nearest finish. Step up to 7f well worth exploring on that evidence and he's one to consider under Rossa Ryan. Closing third on heavy here 20 days ago and now goes over 7f for the first time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (12/1 -20%) Paulie Two Lockers |
12/1(-20%) | (1) Paulie Two Lockers 12/1, Hasn't looked straightforward to date, failing to improve for being gelded/switched to handicaps when fifth of 6 in nursery at this C&D (heavy, 17/2) 20 days ago, hanging badly right 2f out. Needs treating with caution on that evidence. No obvious benefit for being gelded in a heavy-ground C&D nursery 20 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (18/1 +28%) General Gordon |
18/1(+28%) | (8) General Gordon 18/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 18/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, last of 12 in nursery at Newcastle (7.1f) 13 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter with the headgear left off. Made forgettable nursery debut at Newcastle when returning from a break in new cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (8/1 +33%) Beauhaather |
8/1(+33%) | (7) Beauhaather 8/1, 11/2 and blinkered for 1st time, seventh of 8 in nursery at Kempton (8f) 12 days ago, weakening before final 1f. Others more persuasive. No closer than fourth in four nurseries and took backward step last time tried in blinkers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (15/2 -114%) Unex Friendly |
15/2(-114%) | (6) Unex Friendly 15/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Creditable second of 7 in nursery (13/2) at Yarmouth (7f, soft) 13 days ago, hanging left final 1f and keeping on. Cheekpieces on 1st time and she's respected. Second at Yarmouth when taking a while to get going; cheekpieces could liven her up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (11/2 +54%) Borderline Madness |
11/2(+54%) | (4) Borderline Madness 11/2, Thrice-raced maiden. Seventh of 10 in novice (66/1) at Nottingham (6.1f, heavy) 19 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Must find best form. Uncompetitive so far but entitled to take a step forward now handicapping at a lowly level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (66/1 -100%) Demesne Boy |
66/1(-100%) | (9) Demesne Boy 66/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Ninth of 10 in novice at Brighton (8f, heavy, 250/1) 11 days ago. Blinkered for 1st time. Marked step forward required if he's to feature on handicap bow. Beaten 13l, 21, and 31l in 7f/1m maiden/novices, twice on soft ground. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
The prevailing heavy going will help the cause of ZADKIEL. The son of Dark Angel finished a respectable third over 6f here last time, when also giving the impression today's extra furlong will prove well within his compass, and he looks one to keep on the right side of. Unex Friendly just had the measure of Laurens Dream when runner-up at Yarmouth and has to enter calculations on that form, while Borderline Madness is worth a second glance returning to 7f for her nursery debut.
LAURENS DREAM shaped well and was noted finishing to good effect having been forced to delay her challenge when third at Yarmouth (7f) 2 weeks ago. Up to defying this sort of mark on that evidence, she gets the nod to confirm the promise of that run. Zadkiel under Rossa Ryan and Unex Friendly look next best.
Stepping up to 7f looks sure to suit the well-bred ZADKIEL (nap) who ran his best race yet here last time on heavy ground.

1st (1) (11/8 +0%) Belgrave |
11/8(+0%) | (1) Belgrave 11/8, Six-figure purchase both times he's gone through the sales ring and took another step forward when second of 8 in novice at York (6f, soft) 17 days ago. Sets the standard. Probably ran into a good horse when second at York last time (6f, soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/10 +41%) One More |
11/10(+41%) | (3) One More 11/10, No Nay Never colt built on a promising debut second at Kempton when filling the same position in a 7-runner novice at Newbury (7f, soft, 9/4) 37 days ago. May well do better again. Clear second on heavy at Newbury and the winner won Saturday's Group 3 there. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (16/1 -191%) Reporter |
16/1(-191%) | (4) Reporter 16/1, Wootton Bassett colt still look in need of experience when third of 12 in novice at Kempton (6f) 54 days ago. Likely to improve, but this would require a sizeable step forward at this stage. Slowly away on debut and next race was won by the subsequent Middle Park third. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (15/2 -15%) Lexington Rocket |
15/2(-15%) | (2) Lexington Rocket 15/2, Ardad gelding. Lacked sharpness early but penny was seemingly beginning to drop when third of 7 in novice (66/1) at Yarmouth (6f, soft) on debut 13 days ago, Should progress. Beaten nearly 6l at Yarmouth (6f, soft) but he lost lengths at the start; should be wiser. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Runner-up at Newbury before occupying the same position at York, Belgrave sets the standard with an official rating of 81 and he looks set to go close once more. Ralph Beckett's colt may have to settle for silver again, though, as ONE MORE gets the vote. Too keen to quite see out 7f behind the subsequent Horris Hill winner at Newbury last month, a drop in trip could play to his strengths. Lexington Rocket shaped with considerable promise at Yarmouth after missing the break and he should know more this time around.
BELGRAVE has stepped forward with each run so far and sets a good standard after his recent York second, though all 3 in opposition do strike as likely improvers, with One More rating as the likeliest danger ahead of Lexington Rocket.
The suggestion is BELGRAVE who probably ran into a good one at York, though the same was definitely true of One More at Newbury.

1st (4) (6/1 +45%) Nights Over Egypt |
6/1(+45%) | (4) Nights Over Egypt 6/1, Fair gelding. Latest win at Wolverhampton in September. Tenth of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 7/1) 28 days ago. Others preferred. Dual winner; these terms are tough but he goes on heavy ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (7/4 +71%) Blufferonthebus |
7/4(+71%) | (2) Blufferonthebus 7/4, Fair filly. 3 wins from 15 runs this year. Latest win at Beverley in July. 12/1, creditable 7½ lengths second of 9 to Alzahir in seller at this C&D (heavy) 13 days ago. Frame claims but looks to have work cut out against that rival once again. Better off at the weights with Alzahir than when chasing him home in a seller recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (2/1 +90%) Liberty Mountain |
2/1(+90%) | (7) Liberty Mountain 2/1, Fair filly. 18/1, seemed unsuited by conditions when below form 11¾ lengths fifth of 9 to Alzahir in seller at this C&D (heavy) 13 days ago. More required. Has soft-ground form but was well behind the top two in a seller here two weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (125/1 -89%) Darkest Intention |
125/1(-89%) | (3) Darkest Intention 125/1, Twice-raced maiden. 100/1, sixth of 7 in novice at this C&D (heavy) 13 days ago. Very hard to fancy. Finished last on the AW and nearly last in a C&D novice on heavy 13 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (80/1 +20%) El Montejean |
80/1(+20%) | (6) El Montejean 80/1, 100/1, last of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 11 days ago. Completely out of sorts this year. Brings no form credentials on what he's been showing of late. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (10/3 +58%) Beau Gars |
10/3(+58%) | (5) Beau Gars 10/3, Fair gelding. Winner at Ffos Las in August but hasn't beaten a rival either outing since, so bit to prove now in claiming company. Poor since his win on heavy in August but chance if returning to that level. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ALZAHIR trounced Blufferonthebus (second) in a seller over C&D recently and although 12lb worse off with that rival, it is difficult to see the form being reversed. The latter, admittedly, looks the most likely to serve it up to the selection. That said, Beau Gars shares an identical rating and might provide some additional resistance in receipt of a further 3lb.
ALZAHIR had a couple of these behind when winning a C&D seller earlier in the month and he's an obvious pick to successfully concede weight all round. Blufferonthebus can chase the selection home again, with Liberty Mountain a modest pick for third.
As the best horse in the race and now proven in the mud, it's difficult to get away from recent course winner ALZAHIR.

1st (6) (5/2 +38%) Turn Up The Heat |
5/2(+38%) | (6) Turn Up The Heat 5/2, Fourth of 6 in novice (15/2) at Haydock (8f, soft) when last seen in July. Proved that she handles testing conditions when runner-up at Bath during the spring and this 3-y-o could have a part to play. Disappointing maiden but career-best run (on heavy) came after a similar break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/8 +50%) Equion |
11/8(+50%) | (7) Equion 11/8, 7/2, career best when landing a 10-runner handicap at this C&D (heavy) 13 days ago, readily. Remains on a winning mark up 5 lb and another bold show on the cards. Back up 5lb but ability to handle conditions counterbalances that concern. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (10/1 +29%) Alfie Boy |
10/1(+29%) | (10) Alfie Boy 10/1, 12/1, last of 10 in handicap at Pontefract (6f, heavy) 21 days ago, met some trouble. Moving back up in trip will help and, now 4 lb below last winning mark, he's not without hope. Form regressed since winning in May and this is a belated first run at 1m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (14/1 -180%) Run For The Sun |
14/1(-180%) | (8) Run For The Sun 14/1, Third of 5 in handicap (7/2) at Ffos Las (8f, soft) 83 days ago. Down another 2 lb and there ability is certainly there for her to win a race or two. Chance, Had a light season and only 3l away in two handicaps over 1m on soft ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (40/1 -21%) Angel Mac |
40/1(-21%) | (9) Angel Mac 40/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 66/1, last of 14 in handicap at Chelmsford City (10f) 11 days ago. Looks set for another struggle. Struggles continued on handicap debut at Chelmsford when sent up to 1m2f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (15/2 -88%) Marsh Benham |
15/2(-88%) | (5) Marsh Benham 15/2, Ungenuine type. Career best when winning 11-runner handicap at Brighton (8f, heavy, 5/2) 11 days ago, helped by being held up in strongly-run race. 4 lb rise manageable and he has to enter calculations. Running well but feeds off Class 5/6 handicaps so this should be tougher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (17/2 +29%) Hartswood |
17/2(+29%) | (4) Hartswood 17/2, Latest win at Doncaster in September. 25/1, tenth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 28 days ago. Would have a chance if on-song but has struggled on the previous occasions that he has encountered heavy going, which is forecast here. Won on soft at Doncaster last month but typical of him to back that up with a quiet one. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (22/1 -57%) Bet Me |
22/1(-57%) | (1) Bet Me 22/1, Last of 6 in handicap (16/1) at Goodwood (9f, heavy) 33 days ago and, with similar conditions forecast here, she is probably worth taking on. Tongue strap on 1st time. Yard also saddles Angel Mac. Had a quiet year and has now twice run moderately on heavy after last run at Goodwood. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
EQUION built on some pleasing efforts in defeat when ploughing through the mud over C&D a couple of weeks ago and conditions are in his favour again as he attempts to defy a 5lb higher mark. Marsh Benham is thriving on his racing and justified favouritism at Brighton just two days after running behind the selection here. Run For The Sun chased home a couple of subsequent winners at Ffos Las, with another right behind her, and Turn Up The Heat warrants consideration too.
Both winners under testing conditions recently, EQUION and Marsh Benham can be expected to come to the fore once again. There isn't much to choose between them, with marginal preference for the former who did the job well over this C&D recently and he remains on a winning mark up 5 lb. Marsh Benham has two ways of running but he will be a serious threat if able to reproduce the form of his career-best display at Brighton 11 days ago. Turn Up The Heat is third choice ahead of Run For The Sun.
It might pay to take a chance on TURN UP THE HEAT whose best effort to date came on heavy and on the back of a similar absence.

1st (4) (15/8 +0%) Marching Mac |
15/8(+0%) | (4) Marching Mac 15/8, Is enjoying a fine autumn and emphatically landed 11-runner handicap at Nottingham (5f, heavy) 12 days ago, powering clear last 1f. Hiked up 10 lb but looks the one to beat. Up 10lb but still respected in his current form and with no ground issues. |

2nd (3) (5/2 -11%) Mister Bluebird |
5/2(-11%) | (3) Mister Bluebird 5/2, Ended a lengthy losing sequence with a career best in winning 9-runner handicap at Bath (5.7f, heavy) 7 days ago. Merits serious consideration under a 5 lb penalty. Penalised for last week's Bath win but had dropped in the weights anyway. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/3 -11%) Brooklyn Nine Nine |
10/3(-11%) | (1) Brooklyn Nine Nine 10/3, On a losing run but he comes here in good nick, poorly drawn when twelfth of 17 in handicap at York (5f, soft) 17 days ago. Needs considering. York was disappointing 17 days ago but he's better than that; handles soft ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (10/3 +49%) Batal Zabeel |
10/3(+49%) | (2) Batal Zabeel 10/3, Scored at Ripon in June but he's a temperamental sort and was retried in blinkers when only seventh of 9 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) 51 days ago on his final run for Kevin Ryan. Needs this yard switch to spark a resurgence. A change of yard might get him going again and he's still in the same ownership. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MISTER BLUEBIRD's return to form has coincided with the ground going testing and he gave favourite-backers few concerns at Bath. Heather Main's grey has a 5lb penalty to contend with, but he might be able to dictate matters in this small field and is fancied to follow up. Marching Mac is a major threat, though, because he has won three times in just over a month and laughed at his rivals at Nottingham. Brooklyn Nine Nine and Batal Zabeel both drop in class so can't be dismissed lightly.
MARCHING MAC is thriving at present and strongly fancied to bag a fourth win of the autumn on the back of his facile Nottingham victory last week. Recent Bath scorer Mister Bluebird appeals as the one to chase home Phil McEntee's 3-y-o ahead of Brooklyn Nine Nine.
Any of the four could win but BROOKLYN NINE NINE is accustomed to stronger races than this.
Ths is the racecard key.
