1st (1) (3/1 +63%) Croeso Cymraeg |
3/1(+63%) | (1) Croeso Cymraeg 3/1, C&D winner. Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. 8/1, sixth of 8 in handicap at Catterick (12.1f, soft) 13 days ago, slowly away. Can get involved if things drop right. Acts on any ground and has claims on several placed efforts this season; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (12/1 +64%) Red Derek |
12/1(+64%) | (8) Red Derek 12/1, Two wins from 43 Flat runs. 100/1, last of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f). Off 11 months. Infrequent winner and he looks opposable back from 343 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (15/8 -7%) Questionable |
15/8(-7%) | (2) Questionable 15/8, 15/2, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at Sandown (10f, good) 27 days ago, suited by more patient tactics. Needs considering. Forged clear at Sandown last month and she's open to more progress; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (9/2 -64%) Orbital |
9/2(-64%) | (5) Orbital 9/2, Latest win at Lingfield in July. Respectable fifth of 10 in handicap (5/2) at Kempton (11f) 25 days ago. Better expected given more of a break. Dual AW winner who had an excuse last time and is still unexposed on turf; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (11/2 -22%) Another Beautiful |
11/2(-22%) | (6) Another Beautiful 11/2, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, creditable third of 11 in handicap at Beverley (9.9f, good to soft, 16/1) 21 days ago. Not taken lightly. Placed off this reduced mark last time but this looks tougher back up in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (11/1 -175%) Phone Tag |
11/1(-175%) | (3) Phone Tag 11/1, 18/1, first run since leaving Hugo Palmer when creditable second of 6 in handicap at Chester (10.3f, heavy) 32 days ago. Can give a good account. Runner-up on stable debut at Chester and has claims off unchanged mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (50/1 +0%) Red Scotch |
50/1(+0%) | (7) Red Scotch 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 9 in handicap at Doncaster (10.2f, good to firm, 200/1) 82 days ago. Has gone the wrong way. Five-race maiden who has been tailed off in both handicaps and has lots to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Orbital could go well dropping back in trip after weakening over further at Kempton on her latest start. Phone Tag ran well when second at Chester behind an in-form opponent and he has to enter calculations, but QUESTIONABLE gets the vote. She has been put up 7lb after an easy Sandown win but may have more to come over this distance.
The free-going QUESTIONABLE seemed suited by more patient tactics when off the mark at Sandown last month and she could have more to offer now connections have found the key. Another Beautiful is worth another go at this trip having shaped well at Beverley last time, while Phone Tag made a positive start for this yard when runner-up at Chester under similar conditions.
This can go QUESTIONABLE (nap), who won in good style at Sandown last month and is open to more progress.

1st (9) (50/1 -52%) Perfect Sight |
50/1(-52%) | (9) Perfect Sight 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 28/1 and blinkered for 1st time, last of 8 in nursery at Chepstow (7.1f, good to firm) 43 days ago, very slowly away. Poor form, including in blinkers on nursery debut at Chepstow (7f) when 28-1. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/2 +44%) Capricorn King |
5/2(+44%) | (5) Capricorn King 5/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Creditable fifth of 11 in nursery at Newcastle (10.2f, 5/1) 12 days ago. Will need to handle the ground but today's assured stamina test should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (14/1 -180%) Good Call |
14/1(-180%) | (8) Good Call 14/1, 18/1, creditable fourth of 10 in nursery at Southwell (8.1f) 16 days ago. Eight-race maiden but close up behind Keep Singing and Freak Encounter at Southwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (9/2 -50%) Freak Encounter |
9/2(-50%) | (7) Freak Encounter 9/2, 8/1, creditable third of 10 in nursery at Southwell (8.1f) 16 days ago. Expected to be bang there. Unraced on slow ground but third the last twice, latterly boxing on at Southwell (1m). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (40/1 -21%) Hickton |
40/1(-21%) | (6) Hickton 40/1, 50/1, tenth of 11 in nursery at Newcastle (10.2f) 12 days ago. Plenty to prove. Debut was half promising but he has offered little in the meantime. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (18/1 -29%) Teenage Daydream |
18/1(-29%) | (2) Teenage Daydream 18/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Hooded for 1st time, last of 6 in novice (150/1) at Haydock (7.2f, heavy) 18 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Nothing positive to report so far and hard to suggest she's well treated for nursery debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (15/2 -173%) Keep Singing |
15/2(-173%) | (3) Keep Singing 15/2, 15/2, good second of 10 in nursery at Southwell (8.1f) 16 days ago. Player. Another good run last time at Southwell in a 0-60; thereabouts if handling conditions. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (66/1 -164%) Pathetic Fallacy |
66/1(-164%) | (10) Pathetic Fallacy 66/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 33/1, twelfth of 14 in nursery at Brighton (7f, good to soft) 7 days ago. Weak 33-1 on nursery debut at Brighton (7f, good to soft) and ran accordingly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (28/1 -75%) Eye On The Prize |
28/1(-75%) | (1) Eye On The Prize 28/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 125/1, last of 8 in novice at Catterick (7f, soft) 13 days ago, badly hampered. Makes handicap debut. Handicaps could see this daughter of Expert Eye in a brighter light; market useful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (11/1 -120%) Mehmasself And I |
11/1(-120%) | (4) Mehmasself And I 11/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 7/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, good fifth of 12 in nursery at Chelmsford City (7f) 17 days ago, running on. Blinkers on 1st time. Can make presence felt. Stayed on from off the pace at Chelmsford (7f); now goes further with blinkers added. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
GOOD CALL is interesting here after her Southwell fourth when running on late over this trip and off 1lb lower she can go well with Tom Kiely-Marshall claiming 5lb from the saddle. Stable companion Keep Singing is an obvious rival with her September second, but she has been put up for that and may have to settle for third place with Freak Encounter, a neck behind him there, 2lb better off here.
Modest stuff but FREAK ENCOUNTER is going the right way now which should count for plenty. Mehmasself And I and Keep Singing are others to consider.
Most of these have questions to answer on the ground but a test of stamina may trigger an improved showing from CAPRICORN KING.

1st (2) (2/1 +50%) Layla Liz |
2/1(+50%) | (2) Layla Liz 2/1, Foaled March 28. €20,000 foal, £40,000 yearling, Inns of Court filly. Half-sister to winner up to 6f Wejdan and winner up to 7.4f It Just Takes Time, both useful. Dam German 6f/7f winner. One to note on debut. £40,000 yearling; yard 16% with 2yos this season and needs watching in market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (10/1 +17%) Be An Angel |
10/1(+17%) | (1) Be An Angel 10/1, Foaled April 6. Twilight Son filly. Half-sister to 6f winner Runaround Sioux. Dam, 2-y-o 6f winner, half-sister to useful winner up to 1m Sunday Sovereign. Market should guide. Yard 16% with 2yos here in recent years and market should guide on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/4 -50%) My Mate Beattie |
9/4(-50%) | (4) My Mate Beattie 9/4, Twice-raced maiden. Better effort when second of 6 in novice (10/1) at Newcastle (7.1f) 21 days ago, conceding first run. Sets a fair standard. Sets standard on her second a Newcastle; big player if she copes with this return to 6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/1 -17%) Run To My Side |
7/1(-17%) | (5) Run To My Side 7/1, Foaled March 31. Al Kazeem filly. Half-sister to 6f winners Rhossili Down and Exuding. Dam, 2-y-o 6f winner, half-sister to useful winner up to 11f Turning Light. One to note on debut. Half-sister to two winners; one of two newcomers for the yard and market should guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (10/3 -48%) Maids Head |
10/3(-48%) | (3) Maids Head 10/3, Twice-raced maiden. Third of 11 in maiden (9/2) at Southwell (6.1f) 10 days ago. Respected. Finished third in both her runs and she's open to more progress back on turf; in the mix. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Run To My Side looks fractionally the better of the Archie Watson pair on paper as a daughter of Al Kazeem, but her inexperience counts against her and both Southwell third Maids Head, so MY MATE BEATTIE is preferred. Ed Dunlop's Kodiac filly kept on into second over further at Newcastle last month but can be ridden more aggressively dropping back to this trip, with Hector Crouch taking the ride on this occasion.
MY MATE BEATTIE stepped up on debut when second at Newcastle and can put her experience to good use up against Archie Watson's newcomers Layla Liz and Run To My Side.
Ed Dunlop's MY MATE BERTIE sets the standard on her second at Newcastle and is a big player if she's unfazed by this drop back in trip.

1st (1) (11/4 +100%) Arolla |
11/4(+100%) | (1) Arolla 11/4, Kingman filly. Closely related to 6f winner Silvretta. Dam, winner up to 1m (2-y-o 7f winner), half-sister to smart winner up to 1m Special Duty. 11/8 and hooded, won 12-runner maiden at Ffos Las (8f, good) on debut, slowly away. Off 97 days. Should improve and can defy penalty. Created good impression when readily drawing clear on debut at Ffos Las in July. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +10%) A Major Payne |
9/4(+10%) | (2) A Major Payne 9/4, Twice-raced maiden. Better effort when second of 11 in novice at Windsor (8.1f, heavy, 17/2). Off 162 days. Player. Creditable second at Windsor (1m, soft) in May; big player if in similar form here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (13/8 +41%) Swift Storm |
13/8(+41%) | (5) Swift Storm 13/8, Twice-raced maiden. First run since leaving Alice Haynes when third of 12 in maiden at Thirsk (7f, heavy, 10/3). Off 178 days/gelded. Re-joined yard after leaving Dominic Ffrench Davis. Absent since soft-ground third at Thirsk in April but that was fairly useful form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (12/1 +14%) Tex |
12/1(+14%) | (6) Tex 12/1, €82,000 yearling, Dark Angel gelding. Half-brother to 6f winner Sydney Bay and useful French winner up to 6f Zudu Spirit. Sixth of 14 in novice at Windsor (8.1f, good, 100/1) on debut 29 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Should have more to offer. Promising sixth on recent Windsor debut; has fair bit to find with principals here, though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (66/1 +0%) Doctor Awtaad |
66/1(+0%) | (7) Doctor Awtaad 66/1, Awtaad filly. Half-sister to 6f winner Bedtime Bella and 1m winner Mabre. Dam maiden (stayed 7f) half-sister to useful winner up to 1m Markazzi. Seventh of 12 in maiden (50/1) at Chelmsford City (7f) on debut 12 days ago, not knocked about. Didn't show enough when well-held seventh at Chelmsford recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (100/1 +0%) Darkest Intention |
100/1(+0%) | (3) Darkest Intention 100/1, Pastoral Pursuits colt. Dam 7f/7.6f winner. 150/1, last of 10 in maiden at Chelmsford City (8f) on debut 47 days ago. Always behind when 150-1 for debut at Chelmsford (1m, AW) in August. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (16/1 +52%) Stone Forest |
16/1(+52%) | (4) Stone Forest 16/1, Fastnet Rock gelding. Brother to 10.3f winner Onameridance and closely related to useful 7f/1m winner Rhythm N Rock and half-brother to 2-y-o 8.6f winner African Beat. Dam, winner up to 1¾m (2-y-o 1m winner), half-sister to smart 7.5f-1¼m winner Half Light. Brother to a useful middle-distance winner; needs to reach a pretty good standard on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
AROLLA showed signs of inexperience at Ffos Las on her debut, but still returned a clear winner on the slow ground. She looks a potentially smart filly on that evidence and the daughter of Kingman is take to defy a penalty. A Major Payne showed promise when runner-up at Windsor in May and can feature again if building on that effort, while Swift Storm also returns from a layoff having placed on soft going at Thirsk back in April and should handle today's underfoot conditions.
AROLLA looked a good prospect when making a winning start at Ffos Las in July and can defy a penalty. A Major Payne was beaten only by a now-useful sort at Windsor back in May so is next best ahead of Swift Storm, who's also coming back from a break.
Placed in what has turned out to be a pretty good soft-ground maiden at Thirsk in the spring, SWIFT STORM might be the answer.

1st (5) (8/13 +100%) Alzahir |
8/13(+100%) | (5) Alzahir 8/13, Fairly useful gelding. 50/1, first run since leaving David O'Meara when bit below form seventh of 16 in handicap at York (7.9f, soft) 4 days ago. Clear pick at the weights here and will take plenty of stopping if anywhere near his best. His run at York at the weekend reads well with a view to today's easier assignment. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (12/1 +14%) Blufferonthebus |
12/1(+14%) | (2) Blufferonthebus 12/1, Fair filly. 3 wins from 14 runs this year, the latest at Beverley in July. Fifth of 10 in handicap (20/1) at Pontefract (6f, heavy) 8 days ago, inadequate test. No easy task on these terms. Needs to rediscover some form but dropping into a seller can help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (13/2 +0%) Gaiety Musical |
13/2(+0%) | (10) Gaiety Musical 13/2, Fair filly. 7/1 and hooded for 1st time, sixth of 7 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 47 days ago. Good chance of making the frame on these terms. Has been competitive and is a likely player at these weights if handling conditions. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (9/1 +36%) Charlie Mason |
9/1(+36%) | (4) Charlie Mason 9/1, Fair gelding. Below form fifth of 12 in handicap (28/1) at Kempton (6f) 6 days ago. Others make more appeal on these terms. Slow starts haven't been helping in handicaps but he has been running on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (18/1 -29%) Liberty Mountain |
18/1(-29%) | (9) Liberty Mountain 18/1, Fair filly. Eighth of 11 in handicap (14/1) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 56 days ago. Woudn't be without an each-way chance if on-song. Not disgraced in 7f handicaps the last twice and she's a dual winner with soft-ground form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (11/1 -175%) Classy Boy |
11/1(-175%) | (1) Classy Boy 11/1, Fairly useful gelding. 6/1, last of 6 in handicap at Chester (10.3f, heavy) 32 days ago. This drop back in trip shouldn't be too much of an issue (won over a mile at Carlisle in July) and will be a serious each-way player down in grade here if responding well to the first-time cheekpieces. Dual winner poor the last twice; sights lowered here with cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (14/1 -40%) Fierce |
14/1(-40%) | (3) Fierce 14/1, Fair gelding. Latest win at Lingfield in August. 5/1, last of 8 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 39 days ago. Hopes pinned on the first time visor and tongue strap sparking improvement. Blinkers replaced by different headgear and ability is there to take a hand on these terms. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (50/1 -100%) Twisted Tiara |
50/1(-100%) | (8) Twisted Tiara 50/1, Lightly-raced winner. Successful at Bath in April. 40/1, tenth of 11 in handicap at Salisbury (6f, good to soft) 32 days ago. Looks vulnerable. Has regressed since her novice win over an extended 5f; stamina could be stretched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (66/1 -164%) Rajwaan |
66/1(-164%) | (6) Rajwaan 66/1, Lightly-raced winner. 11/8, career best when winning 8-runner nursery for Andrew Balding at Southwell (5f) in November 2022. Absent since and probably best watched starting out for new yard here. Absent since getting off the mark in Southwell nursery (5f, AW) in November 2022. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Jennie Candlish sent out last year's winner and ALZAHIR makes plenty of appeal on paper. The four-year-old has been competing in tough handicaps, including a fifth at York just four days ago, and can make the most of today's favourable terms in this lower grade. Classy Boy also drops in class and can get involved with an apprentice's 7lb allowance further helping his cause, while Gaiety Musical lurks at the bottom of the weights with a chance.
ALZAHIR has spent most of this season contesting strong handicaps, as was the case when he finished mid-field at York on debut for new connections just four days ago. The 4-y-o is likely to prove very hard to beat eased in grade here (meets all of this rivals on far better terms than he would if this were a handicap). Gaiety Musical gets the nod ahead of Classy Boy for forecast purposes.
Jennie Candlish won this seller 12 months ago and ALZAHIR ran well enough in a York handicap at the weekend to earn the nod.

1st (7) (8/1 -33%) It Just Takes Time |
8/1(-33%) | (7) It Just Takes Time 8/1, Course winner. Didn't need to improve to win 9-runner handicap at Beverley (7.4f, good to soft, 11/4) 21 days ago, making all. This 3 lb higher mark should be manageable and he's one for the shortlist. Belated return to 7f (extended) when grinding it out at Beverley three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (8/1 +33%) Encourageable |
8/1(+33%) | (6) Encourageable 8/1, Bit below form fourth of 8 in handicap at Haydock (7.2f, heavy, 11/1) 18 days ago. Eased 1 lb since and entitled to come on for that belated reappearance spin, so he's dangerous to discount. Good run at Haydock after a long absence but this is quite a quick turnaround. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/1 -69%) Executive Decision |
11/1(-69%) | (2) Executive Decision 11/1, Respectable fourth of 13 in handicap at Salisbury (6f, good to soft, 7/1) 12 days ago, nearest finish. Well worth another try at this trip judged on that evidence and she's one to consider. Not a lot wrong with this season's efforts, although 6f has always appeared to be her trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 +25%) Pearle D'or |
9/2(+25%) | (3) Pearle D'or 9/2, Bit below form fifth of 11 in handicap at Newbury (7f, good to firm, 5/1) when last seen in June, unable to sustain effort. Effective on deep ground and he'll be a threat if resuming in top form. Hasn't been running badly during a light season on ground too fast. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (14/1 -250%) Mahato |
14/1(-250%) | (9) Mahato 14/1, Thrice-raced winner. Second of 11 in novice at Kempton (6f, 10/11) 29 days ago, no match for winner. Needs to improve now pitched into a handicap but he's in good hands and could have a part to play if handling conditions (2-y-o debut success at Windsor was on good to soft). Getting back on turf could be beneficial and he's an unexposed handicap debutant. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (14/1 -17%) Zip |
14/1(-17%) | (8) Zip 14/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. Fifth of 8 in handicap (15/2) at Haydock (7.2f, heavy) 18 days ago. Cheekpieces back on and he'll likely come up short once more. Acts on heavy ground but his last four runs have been well beneath his best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (9/2 +10%) Spirit Genie |
9/2(+10%) | (1) Spirit Genie 9/2, C&D winner. 3 wins from 8 runs this year. Career best when winning 9-runner handicap (15/2) at Haydock (7.2f, heavy) 18 days ago, suited by emphasis on stamina. 2 lb nudge fair enough and he has to be taken seriously. Mudlover and the horse he beat at Hamilton ran a cracker at York last weekend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (8/1 -14%) Burdett |
8/1(-14%) | (4) Burdett 8/1, Latest win at Haydock in August. Sixth of 9 in handicap (7/1) at Doncaster (7f, good to soft) 30 days ago. Conditions won't be a problem but he's probably in the handicapper's grip for now. It was a Class 2 in which he wasn't beaten far at Doncaster a month ago (7f, soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (17/2 -21%) Transitioning |
17/2(-21%) | (10) Transitioning 17/2, 2 wins from 5 runs this year. Latest win at Chester in July. 4/1, bit below form fourth of 9 in handicap at Chester (7.6f, soft) 31 days ago. Needs to raise his game. Record of 2-5; too fresh after a break when a fader last time at Chester. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (9/1 +64%) Yermanthere |
9/1(+64%) | (5) Yermanthere 9/1, Latest win at Carlisle in August. Last of 14 in handicap at Ayr (8f, good to firm, 33/1) 24 days ago and he needs to bounce back. Other than his Carlisle success in August it's been a low-key season. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Spirit Genie recorded a narrow success at Haydock last month and he merits respect nudged up 2lb in the ratings, as does It Just Takes Time, who remains competitively handicapped having been on target at Beverley three weeks ago. However, a chance can be taken on EXECUTIVE DECISION. Badly outpaced early on before making good late headway over 6f at Salisbury recently, a step up in trip looks to be a positive move and it would come as no surprise were she to step forward.
With condition again in his favour, SPIRIT GENIE is taken to supplement his recent success at Haydock where he displayed a willing attitude. He landed the C&D seller on this card last year, which was his sole previous visit to Leicester. Pearle d'Or will be a threat if fully tuned-up following a break, while Executive Decision and It Just Takes Time also merit respect, along with lightly-raced handicap debutant Mahato.
His record fresh isn't encouraging but PEARLE D'OR hasn't been running badly this season on ground too fast and he's worth chancing.

2nd (10) (16/5 +73%) Astronomica |
16/5(+73%) | (10) Astronomica 16/5, C&D winner who shaped with some encouragement after 10 weeks off when fifth of 7 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW) 31 days ago. Not dismissed. Has won twice on soft; could have needed the run on the AW latest, after three months away. |

3rd (7) (20/1 -25%) Andromedas Kingdom |
20/1(-25%) | (7) Andromedas Kingdom 20/1, Underperformed when 7¼ lengths eighth of 13 to Alika Breeze in handicap (6/1) at Bath (8f, soft) 14 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Three-time winner this year but now needs to bounce back from quieter runs. |

4th (2) (22/1 -450%) Swatch |
22/1(-450%) | (2) Swatch 22/1, Latest win at Bath in April. Creditable second of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW, 13/8). Off 127 days. First run for yard after leaving Alice Haynes and has good claims if returning from a break in similar form. Capable handicapper but makes stable debut after a lengthy break and that's offputting. |

5th (6) (12/1 -140%) Soi Dao |
12/1(-140%) | (6) Soi Dao 12/1, 11/1, good ¾-length second of 13 to Alika Breeze in handicap at Bath (8f, soft) 14 days ago. In the mix with a repeat. Has won on soft; back to form when pushing Alika Breeze to within a length at Bath. |

6th (3) (16/1 -433%) Marsh Benham |
16/1(-433%) | (3) Marsh Benham 16/1, Ungenuine type who ran up to best to get off the mark for the year in 9-runner handicap at Brighton (8f, good to soft) 7 days ago, helped by being held up in strongly-run race. Carries penalty 4-lb penalty and not an obvious type to follow up. Perhaps flattered to win so well at Brighton as the pace collapsed up ahead of him. |

7th (4) (5/1 +75%) Diffident Spirit |
5/1(+75%) | (4) Diffident Spirit 5/1, C&D winner who produced a laboured effort when fifth of 13 in handicap at Ascot (7f, good to soft, 33/1) 11 days ago, nearest finish. Jury still out as to what ability he retains. No concrete evidence this season (following an absence) that he's as good as he was. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (12/1 -140%) Alika Breeze |
12/1(-140%) | (9) Alika Breeze 12/1, 50/1, career best when winning 13-runner handicap at Bath (8f, soft) 14 days ago, by ¾ length from Soi Dao. Needs to prove that wasn't a flash in the pan. Hadn't offered much in handicaps until winning off a reduced mark from Soi Dao at Bath. |

9th (1) (8/1 +50%) Harswell Duke |
8/1(+50%) | (1) Harswell Duke 8/1, C&D winner who took a step back in the right direction on first run since leaving Roger Fell & Sean Murray when respectable fifth of 9 in handicap at Pontefract (8f, heavy, 18/1) 8 days ago. Suited by soft/heavy but winless since the 2023 Spring Mile; below par of late. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (17/2 +39%) Blue Collar |
17/2(+39%) | (5) Blue Collar 17/2, First run since leaving Richard Hannon when respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Salisbury (8f, good to firm, 10/1) 46 days ago, barely adequate test. Others preferred for win purposes kept to this trip. Chance on best form but still a maiden and ground this slow could be an issue. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ALIKA BREEZE sprang a surprise when winning at odds of 50-1 at Bath a fortnight ago. That was a giant leap forward on what she had shown previously, but Richard Hughes' filly has few miles on the clock and may defy a 4lb rise in the handicap if arriving in a similar vein of form. Soi Dao finished behind her in second that day but has a 2lb pull and that could bring the pair closer together. Recent Brighton scorer Marsh Benham can go well under a 5lb penalty.
EQUION confirmed himself still in good form when beaten only by a thriving rival at Bath a fortnight ago and is the percentage call to go one better. Swatch has good claims if picking up where he left off for Alice Haynes in midsummer, with Astronomica also of some interest following an encouraging recent run at Lingfield.
This has an open look to it. EQUION will be at home in the conditions and has given his running in two of his last three races.
Ths is the racecard key.
