1st (5) (10/3 -11%) Royal Mer |
10/3(-11%) | (5) Royal Mer 10/3, Mixed bag over hurdles for this yard but returned to something like his best back over fences, showing a good attitude to land 7-runner Ffos Las handicap (19.4f). Respectable second of 6 in at this course (22.7f, heavy, 3/1) 4 weeks ago and has to be taken seriously back down in trip. Soft-ground winner in November and ran well on heavy here last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (11/2 -22%) Supasunrise |
11/2(-22%) | (8) Supasunrise 11/2, Gained his second chase win when seeing off 9 rivals over 2½m at Warwick in November and his subsequent Market Rasen run is easy to ignore (pulled up early after rein snapped). Good second at Hereford since and can go well again. More exposed than some of these but was in good form towards the end of last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (18/1 +28%) Higgs |
18/1(+28%) | (9) Higgs 18/1, Out of sorts in the spring and little encouragement at Bangor on return. Struggled on latest outing, after a break, and is difficult to enthuse over at present. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (3/1 +75%) Eyed |
3/1(+75%) | (3) Eyed 3/1, Winner over hurdles at Huntingdon in March. Should make a chaser but proved a let-down after 7 months off when eighth of 13 in handicap chase at Warwick (20f, heavy, 11/1) on debut over fences 64 days ago. Has had a breathing operation. Given wind op after low-key seasonal/chase debut; may yet do well over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/2 +36%) Has Troke |
9/2(+36%) | (4) Has Troke 9/2, Fair hurdler who was more miss than hit last season and much better for chase bow/return second at Wincanton. Needs to build on that again. Sound effort when second on heavy ground last month but overall profile not that appealing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (8/1 -78%) Our Friend Mo |
8/1(-78%) | (7) Our Friend Mo 8/1, Best effort when runner-up in handicap chase at Bangor (20.3f, heavy, 12/1) on debut over fences 26 days ago, doing her best work late on. May need further if she's to build on that. Kept on well to snatch second on chasing debut and has plenty of scope for progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (11/1 -175%) Malpas |
11/1(-175%) | (2) Malpas 11/1, Successful 3 times over 17f at Carlisle in 2021/22 but winless last term. However, made a much better fist of things on his second try chasing back from 9 months off when third at Carlisle and may well come on again for the run. Needs considering. Fairly good third on seasonal debut at Carlisle; today's ground ought to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (14/1 +0%) Out The Glen |
14/1(+0%) | (6) Out The Glen 14/1, Three chase wins at the start of 2022. Also runner-up twice at Huntingdon last spring but has run badly all 3 starts since returning from 5 months off. Dual course winner in 2022 but has regressed and become inconsistent; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (33/1 -313%) Arlo |
33/1(-313%) | (1) Arlo 33/1, Fair hurdler for Stuart Crawford in Ireland and, after 18 months off, showed that he retains plenty of ability when third in Sedgefield maiden in October. However, shaped with minimal encouragement on chase bow at Southwell last month. Placed over hurdles on stable debut but subsequent chasing debut was disappointing. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Lurking towards the foot of the weights, SUPASUNRISE makes plenty of appeal for Nigel Twiston-Davies and Finn Lambert. With a line put through his penultimate effort (left rein snapped), he has been in fine form of late and everything looks in place for another bold bid. Malpas is entitled to improve for his comeback run at Carlisle and warrants respect stepping up in trip off a 3lb lower mark. Our Friend Mo, Royal Mer and Has Troke are other names to note.
MALPAS made a much better fist of things on his second try chasing back from 9 months off when third at Carlisle and has potential to do better again given his hurdles form. He gets the vote eased in class, with Royal Mer and Supasunrise feared most.
This is a drop in grade for MALPAS (nap), who made a pleasing seasonal debut at Carlisle last month and is still unexposed over fences.

1st (6) (5/4 -25%) Parikarma |
5/4(-25%) | (6) Parikarma 5/4, Taunton novice winner (16.5f) who added another solid effort to her tally when runner-up at Market Rasen in December. Underwhelming display at Newbury followed last month but no surprise to see her bounce back and good claims on these terms eased in class. Below form at Newbury recently but was second in Market Rasen handicap earlier in December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (3/1 +40%) Iddergem |
3/1(+40%) | (2) Iddergem 3/1, Didn't need to be at best when winning 4-runner selling hurdle at Stratford (19f, heavy) in November. Second in a novice claimer at Ludlow since. Should go well but bit to find with stablemate Swinging London. Has gone close in a Ludlow claimer since winning Stratford seller in November; a player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (200/1 -203%) Tampico Rocco |
200/1(-203%) | (5) Tampico Rocco 200/1, Yet to better poor form in bumpers/trio of maiden/novice hurdles and hard to make a case for even allowing for this drop in class. Struggled to get competitive in three maiden/novice hurdles in the autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (2/1 +20%) Swinging London |
2/1(+20%) | (1) Swinging London 2/1, Fair winning hurdler who returned to form when fourth at Lingfield (2m) in November but he got no further than the second on the back of a heavy fall at Southwell (20.4f) 24 days ago. Still, not discounted now eased in class with blinkers replacing cheekpieces. Fell heavily last time but ran quite well when fourth in Lingfield handicap in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (14/1 -155%) Vorashann |
14/1(-155%) | (3) Vorashann 14/1, Dual hurdles winner for Gary Moore in 2022 but well held in a Huntingdon claimer on first start for 10 months/yard debut in November. Not out of things if he can show benefit of that run here. Fairly useful in his prime but safely held in this grade on stable debut in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (50/1 -100%) Man Of The North |
50/1(-100%) | (4) Man Of The North 50/1, Veteran who was running to a poor level when last seen over fences during the spring. Hard to make a case for returned to timber following a 7-month layoff. Lowly rated veteran; suited by slow ground but has fitness to prove after 238-day layoff. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Olly Murphy looks to have a couple of solid chances here with first-time blinkered Swinging London and IDDERGEM. Although the former is rated 10lb superior, Lewis Stones' mount has posted solid win and placed efforts at this sort of level since returning and he looks a more solid option. Parikarma drops in class and has every chance if on a going day, while Vorashann comes out top on official figures but was disappointing in a similar event at Huntingdon last time.
PARIKARMA needs to shrug off a lesser effort at Newbury last month but this marked drop in grade rates an obvious plus and, with conditions holding no fears, she's expected to bounce back. The Olly Murphy trained-pair Swinging London and Iddergem may emerge as the lead threats.
Gary Moore's mare PARIKARMA will find this much easier than her latest assignment and is selected ahead of Swinging London.

1st (6) (4/1 -20%) Johnny Mac |
4/1(-20%) | (6) Johnny Mac 4/1, Has shown improved form since joining his current yard, getting off the mark in handicap at Hereford in November and doing well to follow up at this C&D, overcoming mistakes and trouble in running. Respected despite running from out of the weights. 7lb wrong today but is 2-2 for current stable after last month's heavy-ground C&D win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/4 +17%) Hunter Legend |
5/4(+17%) | (5) Hunter Legend 5/4, Maiden hurdler but this half-brother to the yard's very smart chaser Cepage shaped promisingly on his chasing debut when second in handicap at Ludlow in November, clear of the remainder. Can build on that effort to go one better. Ran big race in defeat on chasing debut at Ludlow two months ago and commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/2 +36%) Clonakilty |
9/2(+36%) | (4) Clonakilty 9/2, Made it second time lucky over hurdles at Uttoxeter last season, but he failed to progress thereafter and below expectations when well held on his chase debut at Huntingdon in November. However, it remains early days over fences, having had a wind op with tongue tie added. Given wind op after disappointing chasing debut; probably still has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (11/2 -10%) Harel Du Marais |
11/2(-10%) | (3) Harel Du Marais 11/2, Still looking for his first win but denied by only a neck at this C&D in November on his stable debut. Again ran well when fourth at Doncaster the following month, but will need to find more as he switches to chasing. Made the frame on both hurdling starts for this stable; a possible if he takes to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (10/1 -25%) Limetree Boy |
10/1(-25%) | (2) Limetree Boy 10/1, Winning hurdler and showed aptitude for chasing when third in handicap at Worcester (20f) on his return last season. Wasn't able to build on that effort when fifth at Chepstow next time, but he could still have more to offer, albeit after a further 11 months off. Placed on chasing debut in 2022 but off since last February's respectable Chepstow fifth. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (40/1 -300%) Kalkas |
40/1(-300%) | (1) Kalkas 40/1, Fairly useful hurdles winner who posted best effort over fences when runner-up in Leopardstown novice in March 2022. Disappointed on final start for Henry de Bromhead and market best guide on belated return for new yard (has had a wind op). Hood on first time. Second in novice chase in Ireland in 2022; makes stable debut after long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (22/1 -38%) No Quarter Asked |
22/1(-38%) | (7) No Quarter Asked 22/1, Sole win came in handicap chase at Ffos Las (19.4f) in June 2021. Runner-up on 2 of his 3 starts for present yard, most recently in a 3-runner C&D handicap, but looks vulnerable from 9 lb out of the weights here. Sound effort when second of three over C&D last month but 9lb wrong today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
JOHNNY MAC has won his last two starts, including when turning over an odds-on favourite over C&D last time, and a further 10lb hike in the ratings might not be enough to anchor him. Hunter Legend is just 3lb higher than when touched off at Ludlow in November and he is likely to be in the thick of the action again. Limetree Boy has few miles on the clock and is worth a market check at least, while Harel Du Marais cannot be ruled out either.
HUNTER LEGEND made a promising start over fences when runner-up at Ludlow in November, pulling clear of the rest, and he can open his account with improvement to come. He is taken to see off the challenge of Johnny Mac, who has won both starts since joining Matt Sheppard, while Clonakilty could yet do better as a chaser.
It's hard to get away from HUNTER LEGEND, who went down fighting when a clear second on his chasing debut at Ludlow.

1st (2) (7/2 -40%) Dominic's Fault |
7/2(-40%) | (2) Dominic's Fault 7/2, Expensive purchase who is closely related to 2 winners, including smart hurdler/fairly useful chaser Midnight Game. Held in a share of second when falling at the last on hurdles debut at Aintree back in May 2022 and absent since but he's presumably capable of a good deal better. In process of running well before falling on debut in May 2022; not seen again since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/4 +32%) Wal Buck's |
9/4(+32%) | (7) Wal Buck's 9/4, Fourth sole outing in Irish points and built on a considerate bumper introduction when fourth of 10 in novice at Carlisle (17f, soft) on hurdles bow 24 days ago, staying front rank for a long way. Capable of better. Kept on for fourth on hurdle debut a Carlisle and almost certainly has more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (6/1 +57%) Jo Lescribaa |
6/1(+57%) | (4) Jo Lescribaa 6/1, Placed in 2 bumpers in France but hasn't made a significant impact in 2 starts for current yard and will be of more interest in handicaps after this. Placed in two French bumpers but has shown only minor promise over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/4 -63%) Tommie Gun |
9/4(-63%) | (1) Tommie Gun 9/4, From a good jumping family and built on bumper promise to make a successful debut over hurdles in 13-runner novice event at Southwell (15.8f, soft) 24 days ago. Impressed with attitude there and he's open to improvement. One of two to sprint clear of the others when scoring on hurdle debut at Southwell. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (7/1 -27%) Donald Llewellyn |
7/1(-27%) | (3) Donald Llewellyn 7/1, Won 3 times on the Flat last year and showed something to work on having a belated second crack at hurdling when fifth of 18 in novice at Newbury (16.3f, heavy) 21 days ago. Should do better. Triple AW winner in 2023; fair fifth over hurdles at Newbury last month; more needed here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (150/1 -50%) Lunar Ocean |
150/1(-50%) | (5) Lunar Ocean 150/1, Well beaten in 2 bumpers during the spring and was held when unseating at the last at Warwick on hurdles debut. In rear before unseating rider at last flight on hurdle debut in November.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
TOMMIE GUN showed sterling qualities to face down a challenge when he made a winning start over hurdles at Southwell last month and could be difficult to overhaul with a similarly determined effort here. A 6lb penalty makes life tougher for the selection, though, with the Gary Moore-trained Donald Llewellyn suggested as one who could capitalise if the weight becomes an issue on the likely testing ground. Wal Buck's is also considered after his respectable hurdles bow at Carlisle 24 days ago.
TOMMIE GUN found plenty for pressure to make a winning start over hurdles at Southwell last month and he can succesfully concede a penalty. Wal Buck's created a positive impression on his hurdling bow at Carlisle and is also respected, whilst six-figure purchase Dominic's Fault is most interesting 20 months on from his debut.
Preference is for TOMMIE GUN, who quickened up well to fend off a strong finisher on his hurdling debut at Southwell.

1st (1) (15/8 +53%) Galice Macalo |
15/8(+53%) | (1) Galice Macalo 15/8, Fairly useful hurdler/chaser who ran with credit in novices over fences on her first 2 outings this term but disappointing when a remote fourth back hurdling at Ludlow last month. Bounce back needed. Not as good as she was but still managed to hold her own in a Listed chase in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (13/8 -30%) Inspiratrice |
13/8(-30%) | (4) Inspiratrice 13/8, 200/1-winner of 2m Taunton juvenile hurdle last winter. Drawn a blank since but has got better with each start over fences this season, chasing home a useful sort in a 17.5f novice at Exeter last time. Opening chase mark looks very workable. Close second to higher-rated rival in novice chase last month; has good chance here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (2/1 +0%) Artemis Kimbo |
2/1(+0%) | (3) Artemis Kimbo 2/1, Fair winning novice hurdler last season who showed her first form over fences when making the most of a good opportunity in a 3-runner race over C&D (heavy) 4 weeks ago. Raised 3 lb for that. Made all in three-runner C&D handicap last month; obvious contender today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ARTEMIS KIMBO is hard to oppose after her facile success over course and distance last month and, given she was eased towards the finish that day, a 3lb higher mark hardly looks restrictive in her bid for a follow-up success. Inspiratrice is an obvious threat after she went close in a similar race at Exeter last time, while Galice Macalo and Terresita may have to settle for scrapping it out as the best of the rest.
If the form of INSPIRATRICE's latest Exeter second to a useful rival is taken at face value she looks on a good mark now moving into a handicap. Last month's C&D scorer Artemis Kimbo is the obvious danger.
After splitting higher-rated rivals when second in a novice chase last month, INSPIRATRICE is well handicapped here and gets the nod.

1st (12) (11/2 -38%) Billytherealbigred |
11/2(-38%) | (12) Billytherealbigred 11/2, From the family of useful chaser Storm Control and has shown some promise on both completed starts in junior hurdles. Into handicaps now armed with healthy 4-y-o allowance and could improve. Made the frame in two junior hurdles in the autumn; on slower ground for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (13) (10/3 +67%) Robber's Bridge |
10/3(+67%) | (13) Robber's Bridge 10/3, Poor maiden who ran one of his better races when third of 13 in handicap at Wincanton (19.8f, soft) 48 days ago. Back down in trip. Placed off this mark on four of last five outings and is versatile regarding ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (14/1 -155%) Hara Kiri |
14/1(-155%) | (3) Hara Kiri 14/1, Fair form when placed all 3 starts in bumpers and some promise to glean from his exploits in novice hurdles for Alex Hales early in 2022. Lengthy absence to overcome but no big surprise to see him hit the ground running now handicapping on debut for new yard. Makes stable/handicap debut after long absence but well worth a glance in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (2/1 +60%) Lady Balko |
2/1(+60%) | (9) Lady Balko 2/1, Has failed to trouble the judge in a trio of novice hurdles but this former point winner may well be seen in a better light now handicapping at a low level. Safely held in three novice hurdles but ought to fare better in low-grade handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (12/1 -20%) One Eye On Vegas |
12/1(-20%) | (6) One Eye On Vegas 12/1, Third on bumper debut in March 2021. Has failed to better modest form in a trio of hurdle starts after a long absence but he's the type to do better now handicapping. Ran well to a point in first two qualifying races; can improve in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (15/2 -50%) Ingennio |
15/2(-50%) | (5) Ingennio 15/2, Modest maiden who posted creditable second of 9 in handicap hurdle (4/1) at Newcastle (16.9f, soft) 27 days ago, going with enthusiasm. Every chance with a repeat. 0-10 over hurdles but was close second to a next-time-out winner on heavy going last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (17/2 -31%) Embolden |
17/2(-31%) | (7) Embolden 17/2, Largely consistent performer but didn't go about things in a straightforward manner when finishing third at Plumpton (15.9f) 23 days ago. Raced lazily in rear before staying on for third at Plumpton last month; others look safer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (14) (100/1 -52%) Milton Boy |
100/1(-52%) | (14) Milton Boy 100/1, Has made little impact in 4 starts over hurdles, including on handicap debut at Plumpton last time. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Always behind when 66-1 for handicap debut; cheekpieces now added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (150/1 -200%) Howdy Partner |
150/1(-200%) | (8) Howdy Partner 150/1, Poor maiden who failed to complete for the third time from 5 starts in this sphere when unseating rider early on in a Ffos Las handicap a year ago (had breathing op prior). Absent since and it's easy enough to look elsewhere. Unseated rider at fourth flight when 50-1 for handicap debut in late 2022; not seen since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (12/1 -200%) Letthedustsettle |
12/1(-200%) | (4) Letthedustsettle 12/1, Successful on his sole outing in points and has shaped with promise on the first 2 of his 3 starts in maiden/novice hurdles in recent months. Longer trips may suit ideally but worth noting if the market speaks in his favour on this switch to a handicap. Kept on for third in heavy-ground maiden in November; handicap debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (150/1 -355%) Invincible Wish |
150/1(-355%) | (10) Invincible Wish 150/1, Veteran who has been absent since pulling up in a handicap chase at Stratford in July 2022. Best watched on this belated return. Absent since poor chase run in July 2022 and probably wants better ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (11) (80/1 -60%) James Baie |
80/1(-60%) | (11) James Baie 80/1, No great shakes in bumpers and has offered little in a trio of hurdle outings in recent months. Needs to show much more now sent handicapping in first-time cheekpieces. Showed no significant promise when a big-priced outsider for three novice/maiden hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
INGENNIO was only narrowly beaten when second in a similarly modest handicap at Newcastle last month and, having now posted three respectable efforts on the bounce since being tried in cheekpieces, a change of fortune could be imminent for the Richard Hobson-trained six-year-old. Testing ground seems ideal for the selection and his proven liking for the forecast going earns him the nod over Embolden and Robber's Bridge, who appear to be the pick of the opposition.
HARA KIRI has a long absence to overcome but he's joined a yard whose runners rarely lack for fitness and, having shown promise in a trio of novice hurdles for Alex Hales he makes plenty of appeal from a modest opening mark. Billytherealbigred is another interesting handicap debutant, with Ingennio likely to be on the premises if reproducing his latest effort.
The pick is handicap debutant LETTHEDUSTSETTLE, who caught the eye making steady late headway in a heavy-ground maiden in November.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
