1st (3) (10/3 +52%) Blow Your Wad |
10/3(+52%) | (3) Blow Your Wad 10/3, Dual hurdles winner last season. Resumed with a very good second of 14 in Silver Trophy at Chepstow (19.5f, heavy) and matched that switched to fences when chasing home subsequent Grade 1 winner Le Patron at Sandown (2½m) since. More to come in this sphere. Asked a big question on 2m4f chase debut at Sandown but plenty of merit in that run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (12/1 -71%) Outlaw Peter |
12/1(-71%) | (4) Outlaw Peter 12/1, Enjoyed a productive novice hurdle season, winning 3 times, including a 21f handicap here in March. Won a match race on his chase debut/reappearance at Newton Abbot in September and probably best excused subsequent Ludlow run as he was kicked at the start. Won both hurdle completions here; promising chase debut win but ran flat at Ludlow since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (6/1 -9%) Es Perfecto |
6/1(-9%) | (6) Es Perfecto 6/1, Point winner who has shown fairly useful form over hurdles. Lightly raced in recent years but he made a good start to his chase career when 10 lengths second to Ginny's Destiny (won since) over this trip at Cheltenham in November. Lightly raced since winning hurdle debut in 2020; promising 2m4f chase debut; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (16/1 -100%) Kotmask |
16/1(-100%) | (7) Kotmask 16/1, Built on encouraging course chase debut third when scoring over 17f at Plumpton in November. Looked to be in trouble when falling at Sandown (2m) since, though. Back up in trip. Promising youngster but fell on latest start, which puts a dampener on his chance today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (15/2 -50%) General Medrano |
15/2(-50%) | (1) General Medrano 15/2, Fairly useful hurdler who has done even better over fences this term, winning 2m handicaps at Uttoxeter and Huntingdon in October. Improved again when second to the promising Brave Kingdon (won since) at Plumpton 5 weeks ago. Up in trip. Big player for yard which has tasted success in this before. Has shown true colours switched to handicap chases; lost nothing in defeat latest (2m3f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (7/2 +0%) Idalko Bihoue |
7/2(+0%) | (2) Idalko Bihoue 7/2, Lost his way a little over hurdles after finishing third in the Challow last Christmas but back on track switched to chasing, winning 2½m Cheltenham handicap in October. Open to further progress over fences. Fell on chase debut but impressive at Cheltenham since (2m4f, good); future looks bright. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (7/1 +36%) Off To A Flyer |
7/1(+36%) | (8) Off To A Flyer 7/1, Back on track when signing off last term with success in a 3m Ayr maiden hurdle in April. Better effort in handicap hurdles this term when fourth of 10 at Newbury (20.5f) 24 days ago, rallying after getting outpaced. Point win at start of career provides hope he'll take to chasing. Good Irish point form in 2021; improved hurdle form when upped to 3m; tough chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (11/2 +8%) Russian Ruler |
11/2(+8%) | (5) Russian Ruler 11/2, Ended last season with 2m hurdle wins at Newbury (handicap) and this venue (novice). Showed an aptitude for chasing when fourth of 6 at Newbury (2m) at the start of this month. Up in trip. Likely improver for last year's winning yard. Ended hurdle career on the upgrade; never involved on chase debut but it was promising. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A faller at Warwick on his chase debut in October, Idalko Bihoue emphatically put the record straight with a seven-length romp over 2m4f at Cheltenham later that month and he is likely to have a lot more to give in this sphere, while Russian Ruler and Blow Your Wad also enter the equation as chasers on the upgrade. Top-weight GENERAL MEDRANO may have found one too good off a 1lb lower mark when bidding for a chase hat-trick over the extended 2m3f at Plumpton last month, but he remains on an upward curve and this extra furlong could unlock further improvement.
The form of GENERAL MEDRANO's latest Plumpton second was boosted by the winner and third at Newbury last week and Emma Lavelle's improving 6-y-o can take his chase record to 3-4. It turns out Blow Your Wad faced a near-impossible task attempting to concede 12 lb to subsequent Grade 1 winner Le Patron on his chase debut and he can build on that encouraging run and provide the chief threat ahead of Cheltenham-winner Idalko Bihoue.
All the runners have potential. Progressive hurdler RUSSIAN RULER can improve on his recent chase debut at Newbury and is preferred.

1st (3) (13/8 +7%) Il Est Francais |
13/8(+7%) | (3) Il Est Francais 13/8, Very smart hurdler in France and has taken very well to chasing this autumn, winning twice at Auteuil, latterly easily making all in a listed event over 2¾m. Fascinating contender. Grade 1 winner over hurdles in France and has looked very exciting in his two chase wins. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (11/8 +50%) Hermes Allen |
11/8(+50%) | (2) Hermes Allen 11/8, Most impressive winner of the Grade 1 Challow at Newbury last Christmas. Came up short in novice hurdles at the spring Festivals but looked a top-notch recruit to chasing when making a successful reappearance after wind surgery in a 2½m Grade 2 at Newbury 25 days ago. Hard to beat. Grade 1-winning hurdler; had wind surgery prior to faultless chase debut at Newbury. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (28/1 +65%) Kilbeg King |
28/1(+65%) | (4) Kilbeg King 28/1, Useful novice hurdler at up to 3m last season. Third in 2 chases at up to 2½m this time round. Open to improvement now stepping up to 3m but he'll need a big career best to get heavily involved at this level. Equipped with a first-time cheekpieces and tongue tie combination. Chase defeats over shorter; 3m should be more his trip but this still looks a big ask. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (12/1 +76%) Tightenourbelts |
12/1(+76%) | (6) Tightenourbelts 12/1, Maiden hurdle winner last season and made the perfect start to his chase career in a Ludlow novice handicap (2½m, soft) in November. Improved again when third in Newbury Grade 2 3 weeks later. Likely more to come but has 11½ lengths to make up on Hermes Allen from Newbury. Debut winner over fences but limitations then ruthlessly exposed behind Hermes Allen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (11/2 -83%) Giovinco |
11/2(-83%) | (1) Giovinco 11/2, 3-3 over hurdles and this point winner has quickly made up into an even better chaser, producing a smart performance to win Aintree novice handicap in November. Tanked through the race before getting outstayed in the closing stages by Stay Away Fay in a 3m Sandown Grade 2 since. Outmuscled by a stronger stayer at Sandown; this sharper test at 3m promises to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (20/1 +60%) Marble Sands |
20/1(+60%) | (5) Marble Sands 20/1, Developed into a useful hurdler last season and stepped up again when making a successful chase debut in an Ayr novice handicap in November. Finished 11¾ lengths behind Hermes Allen in Newbury Grade 2 since, though. Looks safely held by Hermes Allen and there are others to worry about. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
A Listed winner in France last month, IL EST FRANCAIS is 2-2 over fences and could be difficult to overhaul in his bid to complete the hat-trick. The gelding was notably a Grade 1 winner over hurdles at Auteuil last year and seems to have taken very well to larger obstacles. Hermes Allen comfortably landed a Grade 2 novices' chase at Newbury at the start of this month and has to be feared, while Giovinco has also shown stacks of promise and clearly rates as the the pick of the rest.
A cracking renewal. HERMES ALLEN ran to a really high level for a chase newcomer when taking a Newbury Grade 2 on his reappearance and will be a tough nut to crack if showing up in similar form. The way Giovinco travelled at Sandown last time suggests 3m around here could be ideal for him and he's second choice ahead of exciting French challenger Il Est Francais.
The 5yo French raider IL EST FRANCAIS is a Grade 1-winning hurdler who has looked a bit special in his two chases at Auteuil.

1st (2) (1/12 +43%) Constitution Hill |
1/12(+43%) | (2) Constitution Hill 1/12, One of the best hurdlers seen for a very long time, 7-7 in this sphere, landing the Fighting Fifth, this race, the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham and Aintree Hurdle in impressive style last season. Can't be opposed. Won this contest last year and remains unbeaten under rules; outstanding hurdler. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (15/2 -50%) Rubaud |
15/2(-50%) | (5) Rubaud 15/2, Building up a good record over hurdles, his speed again in evidence when making all in a C&D listed and Wincanton Grade 2 this autumn. The one likely to follow Constitution Hill home. Improving; 5-6 on good ground over hurdles; dual course winner; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (33/1 -32%) First Street |
33/1(-32%) | (3) First Street 33/1, Very useful winning hurdler but held by Rubaud on C&D reappearance form. Well below his hurdle form when beaten in a match on his course chase debut since. Useful hurdler on his day but has a question mark over current form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (50/1 +50%) Black Poppy |
50/1(+50%) | (1) Black Poppy 50/1, Has developed into a useful 2mn handicap hurdler (good second of 18 at Cheltenham latest) but he has a lot to find at this level. Progressive handicap hurdler; has the worst chance at the weights in this field. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (50/1 +50%) Sceau Royal |
50/1(+50%) | (6) Sceau Royal 50/1, Very smart hurdler/chaser but he resumed with below-par fourth to Rubaud on C&D reappearance and last of 5 at Ascot since. His two results this season suggest he's perhaps finally on the wane. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Six-time Grade 1-winning hurdler CONSTITUTION HILL makes his belated seasonal bow. The Blue Bresil gelding has yet to be asked any serious questions and he looks set to maintain his unbeaten record under Rules, with his rivals likely to be fighting it out for second place. The progressive Rubaud proved a ready winner of the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton last month and Paul Nicholls' inmate may provide the most resistance to the selection. The five-year-old has won four races on the bounce and he shouldn't be disgraced at this highest level, while First Street may fare best of the remainder.
This is all about the outstanding CONSTITUTION HILL, who will surely extend his unbeaten hurdle record to 8. Rubaud has listed and Grade 2 wins to his name over this C&D and is the one likely to follow him home.
Outstanding CONSTITUTION HILL continues to set a tall standard in this division. Improving Rubaud is an interesting challenger.

1st (4) (12/1 +52%) Hewick |
12/1(+52%) | (4) Hewick 12/1, Won Galway Plate, Grade 1 hurdle in the US and Grade 2 chase at Sandown last season. Not at best in this year's Galway Plate and freshened up since. Really smart chaser but biting off more than he can chew in this company. Ran well in Gold Cup when ground not ideal; needs some to underperform but that's possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/4 +10%) Bravemansgame |
9/4(+10%) | (2) Bravemansgame 9/4, Established himself as a top-class chaser when winning this last season. Also excellent second to Galopin des Champs in Cheltenham Gold Cup. Not at his best when runner-up in Charlie Hall and Betfair Chase this season but his trainer has no peers when it comes to priming one for this. Last year's winner; not at very best this term but major player if rediscovering peak form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (13/8 +7%) Allaho |
13/8(+7%) | (1) Allaho 13/8, Front-runner who posted some outstanding efforts in spring 2022, landing a second successive Ryanair at Cheltenham before proving himself at 3m when routing a strong field in the Punchestown Gold Cup. Missed last season but won easily on Clonmel return last month. Hard to beat if back to best. Returned from long absence with Grade 2 win last month; tough to beat if as good as he was. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (14/1 -40%) The Real Whacker |
14/1(-40%) | (6) The Real Whacker 14/1, Unbeaten in 3 novice chases at Cheltenham last season, culminating with a narrow defeat of Gerri Colombe in the Brown Advisory at the Festival. Had an excuse (struck into and lame on right-fore) when pulled up in the Paddy Power on his reappearance. The only horse to have beaten Gerri Colombe; worth a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (28/1 +44%) Frodon |
28/1(+44%) | (3) Frodon 28/1, Grand servant who won this in 2020. Still capable of really smart form last season and respectable third in the Badger Beer on his reappearance but his days of winning Grade 1s are surely behind him. Made all in this race in 2020 but it's highly likely that this 11yo is vulnerable today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (10/3 +49%) Shishkin |
10/3(+49%) | (5) Shishkin 10/3, Brilliant chaser on his day, landing Ascot Chase in February and proved his stamina for 3m+ when taking the Bowl at Aintree in April. Blotted his copybook when refusing to race in first-time cheekpieces (discarded) at Ascot on reappearance in November. Refused to race at Ascot but this six-time Grade 1 winner is capable of having a big say. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
ALLAHO has won seven of his last eight and hasn't actually tasted defeat since April 2021, when outpaced by Chacun Pour Soi over 2m at Punchestown. Admittedly, the dual Ryanair hero spent a good chunk of time on the sidelines, but he looked to have lost little of his sparkle when returning with a comfortable victory in the Clonmel Oil Chase and 3m around Kempton looks absolutely ideal for him. Bravemansgame defends his crown, having accounted for Royale Pagaille by 14 lengths last season, but that form was reversed in the Betfair Chase and the suspicion lingers that Paul Nicholls' star is still feeling the effects of a gallant performance for second in the Gold Cup. Big question marks surround Shishkin after he showed the darker side to his nature on his intended Ascot comeback. The Real Whacker flopped in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, but this is more his cup of tea and he could prove a nuisance to the selection at the head of affairs.
If ALLAHO is still capable of the form he showed when demolishing a bunch of established Grade 1 chasers at Punchestown in April 2022 on his previous attempt at 3m he should come out on top. Last year's winner Bravemansgame can give him most to do, although Shishkin is also more than capable of having a big say if in the mood.
The big names have something to prove and it may well pay to take a chance on HEWICK (nap), who ran well in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

1st (1) (11/4 +31%) Court In The Act |
11/4(+31%) | (1) Court In The Act 11/4, Progressed with each run in bumpers, winning at Fontwell in October. Promising start to his hurdle career when second of 13 to a subsequent winner in 2m novice at Hereford (good to soft) 5 weeks ago. Big player with improvement likely. Progressive in bumpers; promising start over hurdles when second at Hereford; rock solid. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (9/2 -80%) Onethreefivenotout |
9/2(-80%) | (5) Onethreefivenotout 9/2, Made a winning bumper debut at Worcester in October 2021. Not seen again until pulled up on Chepstow hurdle debut in October but all the sharper for that when second of 15 at Wincanton 6 weeks later. Likely more to come. 7yo; much improved on second run over hurdles; still unexposed and much respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 -20%) Moon Chime |
3/1(-20%) | (4) Moon Chime 3/1, Won first 2 bumpers and good third of 12 in Cheltenham listed race last month. Good hurdle prospect. Two wins and a fine third in bumpers; very interesting candidate now switched to hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (16/1 +36%) Sea Invasion |
16/1(+36%) | (6) Sea Invasion 16/1, Bought for £110,000 after a promising point run and making steady progress under Rules, showing fair form when third in 2m Newbury maiden 25 days ago. Third in maiden hurdle at Newbury this month; moving in the right direction. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (125/1 -150%) Too Much Hammer |
125/1(-150%) | (9) Too Much Hammer 125/1, Modest fifth in a Ludlow bumper and Sandown maiden hurdle this autumn. Best to look elsewhere. Finished long way back in fifth in maiden hurdle at Sandown; plenty of improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (16/1 -33%) Wee Tony |
16/1(-33%) | (10) Wee Tony 16/1, Half-brother to smart hurdler/chaser Black Op and has shown promise in bumpers a year apart, finishing second of 15 at Hereford latterly. Should be up to making an impact in novice hurdles. In frame in two bumpers, going close at Hereford last month; should make a hurdler. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (125/1 -150%) King Of The Road |
125/1(-150%) | (3) King Of The Road 125/1, Well held in Newbury bumper and when seventh of 9 in novice at Doncaster (16.5f, good) on hurdles bow 24 days ago. Lots more is needed. Well beaten both starts; stoutly bred and looks more of a long-term prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (9/4 +0%) Gentleman's Relish |
9/4(+0%) | (2) Gentleman's Relish 9/4, Left his Newbury debut in March well behind when winning a 13-runner bumper back there 7 months later, despite still showing clear signs of inexperience. Looks to have a lot of raw ability and interesting to see how he gets on over hurdles. Stepped up on form of first run to win Newbury bumper by 6l; big player on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (50/1 -25%) Selwan |
50/1(-25%) | (8) Selwan 50/1, Useful on Flat in France (stays 12.5f) but he has offered little for current yard, including pulling up on C&D hurdle debut in November. Has had wind surgery. Useful at best on Flat; folded tamely on hurdling debut over C&D; has had wind op since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (200/1 -100%) Seattle King |
200/1(-100%) | (7) Seattle King 200/1, Modest handicapper at best on Flat (stays 1¼m) nowadays and struggling for form in that sphere of late. Big outsider now hurdling. Three times a winner on the Flat but hasn't been in much form of late; hard to recommend. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Gentleman's Relish justified strong market support when landing a bumper at Newbury last month and Nicky Henderson's charge warrants respect on his hurdles debut. However, COURT IN THE ACT found only a subsequent winner too strong on his opening bid over timber at Hereford in November and the four-year-old shades the verdict with that experience under his belt. Onethreefivenotout ran with more encouragement when second at Wincanton recently and is unlikely to be far away either.
MOON CHIME was useful in bumpers and is taken to make a successful start to his hurdle career, most likely at the expense of Court In The Act. Nicky Henderson's Gentleman's Relish is another who has shown more than enough in bumpers to think he can make his presence felt in a race like this now hurdling.
Moon Chime was promising in bumpers but COURT IN THE ACT has already shown an aptitude for jumping and he's the one to beat.

1st (7) (11/1 +21%) Mahons Glory |
11/1(+21%) | (7) Mahons Glory 11/1, Failed to win in Ireland but struck at first time of asking for Dr Richard Newland in 2½m Aintree maiden hurdle in October 2022. Not disgraced in 2 subsequent start last term and fared about as well as could be expected when pitched into a Newbury Grade 2 on his reappearance for a new yard. Debut for new yard was impossible task (Grade 2); this handicap also demands a career best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/4 +50%) Emailandy |
9/4(+50%) | (6) Emailandy 9/4, Third in a bumper in the spring and built on that to make a successful start over hurdles in novice at Plumpton in November, powering away. Improved when 2 lengths third of 12 at Newbury since and there should be more to come now making a quick switch to handicaps for top yard. 3rd in good Newbury novice; any further progress would make this look a good opening mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (11/2 -10%) Artistic Endeavour |
11/2(-10%) | (10) Artistic Endeavour 11/2, Yet to win but has shown plenty of promise, finishing runner-up for a third time when finishing strongly in 2m Lingfield handicap 15 days ago. Shapes as if he's sure to benefit from the increased stamina test he faces this afternoon. Has been crying out for a step up in trip, which he gets today; one for the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (17/2 -55%) Mark Of Gold |
17/2(-55%) | (1) Mark Of Gold 17/2, Useful over hurdles with a good strike-rate, notching 3 more wins last season, including C&D. Also scored in a 2m handicap on the Flat at Goodwood in May. Shaped as if needing first run since when fifth of 6 over 2m at Ascot last month. Won in fine style over C&D (good) in February; 9lb higher now but needs respect back here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (14/1 +44%) Kitty's Light |
14/1(+44%) | (4) Kitty's Light 14/1, Most likeable staying chaser who signed off last season by landing an exceptional hat-trick, winning the Eider Chase, Scottish National and bet365 Gold Cup. Low-key efforts in 3 outings this term (2 hurdle, 1 chase) and best to look elsewhere again. Big-race treble over fences (3m4f-4m1f) last term; this test is unlikely to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (7/1 +30%) Chance A Tune |
7/1(+30%) | (9) Chance A Tune 7/1, Solid comeback third from lengthy absence at Market Rasen in September and confirmed as much when running out an emphatic winner at Chepstow (2m, heavy) a month later. Found out in stronger races at Ascot and Aintree since, though. Chepstow win (2m, heavy) on the second of four runs back; others more solid at this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (5/2 +44%) Will Carver |
5/2(+44%) | (2) Will Carver 5/2, C&D maiden winner in May 2021. Hasn't stood much racing since but returned from another lay-off to win a 19f Taunton handicap last month. Raised 9 lb but much respected for a yard with a good recent record in this contest. Lightly raced; C&D winner who scored in cracking style at Taunton (2m3f) latest; up 9lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
WILL CARVER ran out a ready winner on his seasonal bow at Taunton in November. The gelded son of Califet won enough in hand that day to suggest that a 9lb rise in the ratings isn't insurmountable and he may be able to thwart the challenge of handicap debutant Emailandy. The five-year-old finished a respectable third in a competitive novice hurdle at Newbury earlier this month and he isn't taken lightly. Artistic Endeavour also makes some appeal, despite this rise in class.
EMAILANDY has the makings of a useful hurdler so he might be able to cope with an opening mark of 127. Artistic Endeavour has long left the impression he'll do better when stepped up in trip and is second choice ahead of Will Carver, whose yard is seeking a third win in this in the last 4 years.
He is not the only striking candidate but lightly raced 8yo WILL CARVER left a big impression with the ease of his Taunton win.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
