Modest and never-dangerous fourth at Newbury, albeit with soft ground possibly not ideal.

12:45 Kempton Conditions Hurdle (Class 2) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

Nardaran was purchased for 135,000 euros following his debut effort on the Flat when third at Saint-Cloud and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if the son of Waldgeist proved to be a useful recruit to this discipline. Inappropriate made a winning start to his hurdling career at Newcastle, but the form can be questioned and the vote, therefore, goes to RISK IT ALL. The yard boasts a fine record with juveniles and this doesn't look to be the strongest of renewals on paper.

Paul Nicholls took this race in 2021 with Iceo and NARDARAN could be another good prospect for the yard having changed hands for €135,000 in July after showing promise on his sole outing on the Flat. He gets the nod ahead of Inappropriate, who created a good impression in coming from last to first in a steadily-run race at Newcastle on his hurdling debut. Midnight Rumble is in good hands and is also of interest.

Potentially useful recruit NARDARAN is taken to enhance the excellent record of hurdles/British debutants in this race.

Almost certainly needed the run at Bangor on reappearance and filled the position he was entitled to when second in listed company here a month ago. Since had a breathing op.

(5) Royale Margaux 4/1, Prolific in France but 0-13 for this yard. Last couple of runs have been more encouraging though, finishing with running left having met trouble at Cheltenham a fortnight ago. One to consider.

Won Listed mares' novice hurdle last December; may have needed last month's run here.

13:20 Kempton Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 25f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.

DELLA CASA LUNGA improved plenty from her return at Bangor with a decent second here in Listed company last time, and the step back up in trip may see the six-year-old get back to winning ways. Pawapuri shaped in need of her reappearance when a place behind the selection here and is unexposed stepping up in distance. Royale Margaux may represent some each-way value.

The presence of WEST BALBOA keeps a trio of these out of the handicap and while she hasn't been at her best this term (started out over fences) she can call upon plenty of very solid form in better races than this. She therefore receives the vote in favour of Royale Margaux and Larchmont Lass.

The in-form ROYALE MARGAUX could be favoured by the step up in trip and is the selection ahead of Della Casa Lunga.

(4) Sir Gino 8/13, Strong-travelling 4-y-o maintained his unbeaten record over hurdles with a facile success in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle (16.2f, good) last month. A chaser on looks and the sky could well be the limit for him now switched to fences.
Unbeaten; won on this card last year; Ballyburn's stiffest test yet if he takes to chasing.

(1) Ballyburn 7/4, Developed into last season's leading novice hurdler, recording hat-trick of Grade 1s at Leopardstown, Cheltenham and Punchestown. Jumped accurately when producing a near-flawless chase debut at the last-named course last month and he's a most-exciting chasing prospect.

A notch below Ballyburn and Sir Gino in that sphere, so may have his work cut out on chase bow.
Prolific winning hurdler, including here; plenty on with the big two on chasing debut.

13:55 Kempton Maiden Chase (Class 1) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Two of the brightest prospects in the division clash with Ballyburn and SIR GINO taking centre stage. Willie Mullins takes the unusual approach to send a top-notch novice prospect over before Cheltenham and Ballyburn's chasing debut at Punchestown was safe without being spectacular. The return to the minimum distance against a rival in the calibre of Sir Gino will need him to be a lot sharper in the jumping department and Nicky Henderson's four-year-old, already a comfortable winner of the Fighting Fifth this season, has reportedly schooled very well over fences. Rubaud looks booked for third.

A mouthwatering clash between perhaps the most exciting horses on either side of the Irish Sea, with narrow preference on this occasion given to BALLYBURN, who produced a near-faultless display sent chasing at Punchestown last month, though Sir Gino is almost certainly the most formidable rival he'll have faced in any sphere to date and Nicky Henderson's Fighting Fifth winner should prove top-class now making the switch to chasing. Rubaud, a horse of some talent himself, can finish third.

The chase experience BALLYBURN gained at Punchestown gives him the edge over Sir Gino in a truly heavyweight clash.

14:30 Kempton Handicap Chase (Class 1) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.

Boothill (second) got the better of Edwardstone (third) when the pair met in the Shloer chase at Cheltenham last month, and the former can confirm his superiority over that rival once again. That said, MARTATOR is fancied to come out on top. Venetia Williams' seven-year-old impressed when scoring comfortably over 2m1f at Ascot latest and there is no telling where his ceiling may be at this stage.

MARTATOR showed no signs of his progression coming to a halt when bringing up the 5-timer in fine style at Ascot 5 weeks ago and, despite the handicapper applying further pressure, Venetia Williams' 7-y-o could well be up the task. Edwardstone, having a rare crack in a handicap in this sphere, and Boothill head up the dangers, with Editeur du Gite another not dismissed lightly returned to this C&D from a much-reduced mark.

It is hard to see MARTATOR (nap) being far away, with Sans Bruit the danger. Look out for money for Editeur Du Gite.

15:08 Kempton Handicap Chase (Class 3) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

FRERO BANBOU stripped fitter for his reappearance sixth in the Grand Sefton at Aintree when running out a ready winner of a hot handicap chase at Newcastle most recently. That form has a strong look to it and the suspicion is that a 7lb rise may not be enough to prevent him from going in again. Dreaming Blue impressed when making all over an extended 3m1f at Ludlow earlier this month and another bold bid off 3lb higher looks assured, while C&D winner Highstakesplayer is also noteworthy.

FRERO BANBOU added another big-race success to Venetia Williams' CV in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle last month and, remaining with handicapping scope even judged on last season's form, he's likely to prove a tough nut to crack. Dreaming Blue made it 3 wins from his last 4 starts at Ludlow recently, so he's put forward as the main danger, with Highstakesplayer and Weveallbeencaught taken to fight out minor honours.

Although FRERO BANBOU has been hard to place in recent times he was well suited by the step up to nearly 3m last time and can follow up.

(3) Aucunrisque 4/1, Betfair Hurdle winner in 2023. Twice third in 2m handicaps at Plumpton and Cheltenham this autumn, before improved effort when landing a decent Ascot handicap (15.7f, good) 35 days ago, ridden positively as is often the case. Respected C&D winner but could be vulnerable to a less exposed rival.
Has resurrected his former consistency this term; still favourably treated on peak form.

(2) Valgrand 15/2, Last three runs at Cheltenham including victory in Grade 2 novice but unable to live with Potters Charm in a 21f Grade 2 last month. Back in trip (17f) on handicap debut at same venue two weeks ago, finding less than looked likely. Remains in excellent hands however, and not ruled out.
Disappointing last time (h'cap debut) but otherwise very consistent; could well rebound.

(7) Jet Powered 12/1, 350,000 gns purchase after sole success in Irish point and impressed when making winning hurdles debut but disappointing on two runs since, latest when pulled up at Newbury (too keen) a year ago. He's clearly not been straightforward to train and market should convey stable expectations on return.
Back from another absence; connections are persevering and market support should be noted.

15:38 Kempton Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Prior to his subdued effort in the Challow at Newbury last year, WILLMOUNT looked a novice hurdler potentially out of the top drawer. Nicky Henderson's charge was still going well when falling three out on his handicap debut at Cheltenham recently and, off an unchanged mark, he gets the vote to atone for that mishap and return to winning ways. Aucunrisque took advantage of a sliding mark when landing the spoils over 2m at Ascot last month and another bold showing looks likely nudged up 4lb. The unexposed Jet Powered and Valgrand are a couple of others to consider.

A strong 8-runner contest for the grade, and it will be fascinating to see how the market moves with a few talented horses returning from long absences. WILLMOUNT should have some race fitness on his side, having travelled well for a long way at Cheltenham before falling three out. Assuming he's none the worse for his tumble, he can confirm the promise he showed as a novice last year. Hansard is very much respected having gone well fresh in the past while Big Boy Bobby could outrun his odds.

Useful HANSARD, whose form last December reads well, is taken to defy top weight on his reappearance. Aucunrisque is second choice.
