Bhaloo |
(3) (3/1 -33%)3/1(-33%) | (3) Bhaloo 3/1, Had a wind op before landing Market Rasen bumper in good style 7 months ago for Fergal O'Brien. Must enter calculations now going hurdling for another top yard. Clearcut bumper winner for Fergal O'Brien in April; should go well on stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Classic King |
(1) (7/2 +30%)7/2(+30%) | (1) Classic King 7/2, Promising sort who posted a career best when winning 8-runner novice hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, soft) on hurdles bow 25 days ago. More to offer so he's firmly in the picture despite shouldering a 7 lb penalty. Readily drew 10l clear to make winning hurdle debut at Wincanton last month; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Queens Gamble |
(10) (8/13 +65%)8/13(+65%) | (10) Queens Gamble 8/13, Won her first 2 starts in mares' bumpers at Cheltenham, including a listed event, and she landed the odds on her hurdling bow at Warwick (2m) in May despite making mistakes. Has plenty of potential and the one to beat. Listed bumper winner; rather workmanlike when winning on hurdle debut but can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bobby's Fortune |
(4) (20/1 -167%)20/1(-167%) | (4) Bobby's Fortune 20/1, First run since leaving Tjade Collier when winning 7-runner bumper at Ludlow (15.8f, soft) 33 days ago. Much respected on his hurdles debut. Narrow winner of run-of-the-mill Ludlow bumper on last month's stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Star Of Affinity |
(13) (28/1 +15%)28/1(+15%) | (13) Star Of Affinity 28/1, Shaped as if in need of the experience when fifth of 13 in bumper at Taunton in April, pulling hard. Will need to take a big step forward from that run as he goes hurdling after 7 months off. Just a respectable fifth on bumper debut in April but should improve over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Selwan |
(11) (33/1 -408%)33/1(-408%) | (11) Selwan 33/1, Useful on Flat in France (stays 12.5f) but he has offered little in handicaps both starts for current yard. Now goes hurdling with a bit to prove. Useful on the Flat in France last year but well beaten on both British Flat starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
City Tour |
(5) (80/1 +20%)80/1(+20%) | (5) City Tour 80/1, Fairly useful at best on Flat (stays 1½m) but off 14 months since finishing well held at Goodwood. Goes hurdling with lots to prove. Fairly useful on the Flat at his best but out of sorts when last seen last summer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Huckleberry Sting |
(8) (80/1 -900%)80/1(-900%) | (8) Huckleberry Sting 80/1, Scorpion gelding who hinted at promise when seventh of 10 in bumper at Worcester (16f, soft) on NH debut 32 days ago. Needs considering on his hurdles debut. With a top stable but made low-key bumper debut last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Global Esteem |
(6) (100/1 -300%)100/1(-300%) | (6) Global Esteem 100/1, Fairly useful 1m handicapper on Flat for John Gallagher. Only ninth on his hurdles/yard debut in 2m Stratford novice last month. Needs a big step forward. Five-time winner on the Flat but struggled on recent stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
He'llstopatthetop |
(7) (125/1 -25%)125/1(-25%) | (7) He'llstopatthetop 125/1, 100/1, seventh of 15 in novice hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, soft) on NH debut 13 days ago. This maiden pointer needs to show plenty more. Not disgraced on recent hurdling debut but probably one for further down the line. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barbarosa |
(2) (200/1 -100%)200/1(-100%) | (2) Barbarosa 200/1, Fair handicapper at best on Flat but, following a spell in Poland (won twice), finished well held in seller at Leicester when last seen back in July 2021. Makes hurdling debut on first run for yard after leaving Mrs Monika Krzyskow. Not seen since 19l defeat in a Flat seller in July 2021; stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
No No Espresso |
(9) (250/1 -279%)250/1(-279%) | (9) No No Espresso 250/1, Little show in a pair of bumpers in the spring. Lots more is needed starting out in this sphere. Safely held in two bumpers in the spring; best watched on today's hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sky Power |
(12) (250/1 -279%)250/1(-279%) | (12) Sky Power 250/1, Useful at best on Flat (stays 1½m) but currently out of sorts. This switch of codes needs to spark a big resurgence. Useful on the Flat in his prime but has regressed; makes hurdling debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Now in the care of the in-form Harry Derham stable, QUEENS GAMBLE is a talented mare to be going to war with this season, and the fact she got hurdles experience when scoring comfortably at Warwick in May is another plus. The five-year-old can follow up at the main expense of impressive Wincanton scorer Classic King, as well as Bhaloo, who has switched to Nicky Henderson since taking a Market Rasen bumper in April. Bobby's Fortune and newcomer Selwan cannot be ruled out either.
QUEENS GAMBLE overcame some indifferent jumping to get off the mark at Warwick in May and this useful bumper scorer is fancied to build on that and go in again at the chief expense of Nicky Henderson's newcomer Bhaloo. Wincanton-scorer Classic King can also have a say along with Dan Skelton's newcomer Huckleberry Sting.
Preference is for CLASSIC KING, who created a pretty good impression on last month's hurdling debut at Wincanton.

King's Threshold |
(3) (4/1 +56%)4/1(+56%) | (3) King's Threshold 4/1, Fairly useful hurdler who shaped as if he'd returned in form when fourth in a handicap at Bangor (23f, soft) just under 6 weeks ago. Should take to chasing, so certainly not dismissed. Won on handicap hurdle debut in April and is open to more improvement over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sherborne |
(11) (6/1 +45%)6/1(+45%) | (11) Sherborne 6/1, Landed a double over hurdles in the spring and shaped like he had returned in form when fourth at Newton Abbot last month. Confirmed that promise with his first form over fences when runner-up to Stroll On By at Exeter (17.5f, soft) 20 days ago so warrants plenty of respect. No match for Stroll On By when second at Exeter last month; up in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Egbert |
(5) (8/1 -33%)8/1(-33%) | (5) Egbert 8/1, Strong at the finish when landing a maiden hurdle at Ludlow over 21.3f in January. Low-key handicap debut at Sandown and failed to meet expectations upped in trip when well held at former course (23.8f, good to soft) 6 months ago. Now heads over the larger obstacles after a wind op. Both handicap hurdle runs were underwhelming but he looked useful when winning a maiden. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Stroll On By |
(8) (9/2 -80%)9/2(-80%) | (8) Stroll On By 9/2, Made the frame on 4 of his 6 starts over hurdles last season and plenty to like about his chasing debut at Warwick in September. Duly built on that with an emphatic success at Exeter (17.5f, soft) just under 3 weeks ago and likely to have even more to offer. Looks sure to go well. Hiked up 9lb for last month's comfortable Exeter win but evidently in prime form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Touchy Feely |
(4) (9/1 -50%)9/1(-50%) | (4) Touchy Feely 9/1, Won first 2 hurdles. Not up to Grade 2 company at Sandown in February and disappointed following a breathing operation and a 12-week break at Ffos Las (21.9f, soft) back in May. In top hands so would be folly to ignore sent chasing. Dual novice hurdle winner; safely held on handicap debut but still of interest now chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Richhill |
(2) (11/2 +8%)11/2(+8%) | (2) Richhill 11/2, Irish point winner who finished third on hurdling debut. After 3 months off (had wind op), built on that effort when making all in maiden at Southwell in January and ran well on both subsequent starts in novice events. Fences should get more out of him this season so needs considering. Irish point winner who was consistent over hurdles last season; chase/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Stringtoyourbow |
(7) (14/1 +44%)14/1(+44%) | (7) Stringtoyourbow 14/1, Left his qualifying runs well behind when close second on 20.5f Newbury handicap debut in March 2022. Went one better with plenty in hand upped to 24.3f at Ayr the following month and showed some promise after 19 months off at Cheltenham (19.9f, good to soft) recently. Makes chase debut. Easy hurdle winner in April 2022; made low-key return last month; may do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Invincible Nao |
(6) (17/2 -31%)17/2(-31%) | (6) Invincible Nao 17/2, French juvenile hurdle winner last spring who produced his best effort yet on these shores when third in a Fontwell handicap (21.8f, good) in February. Creditable efforts both starts since and has the physique for chasing, so worthy of respect after 6 months off. Good fourth over hurdles here (2m5f) when last seen in May; makes chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Boom Boom |
(9) (18/1 -80%)18/1(-80%) | (9) Boom Boom 18/1, Got off the mark in 2m maiden hurdle at Wincanton in April but he was pulled up on his handicap debut at Worcester following month. Returned from 5 months off with a haphazard display that culminated with a capitulation on chasing debut and blinkers are quickly reached for. Disappointed on last month's chasing debut and now sports blinkers; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Earth King |
(1) (20/1 -100%)20/1(-100%) | (1) Earth King 20/1, Went the right way at pace over hurdles last season, readily opening his account in novice at Exeter (18.5f) in February before finishing runner-up on handicap bow at Taunton (19f, heavy) when last seen in March. Lots to like on return/chase debut. Ended last season in good form over hurdes and still has low mileage; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grey D'alco |
(10) (28/1 +15%)28/1(+15%) | (10) Grey D'alco 28/1, Winning pointer who has made the frame on a couple of occasions over hurdles but hasn't made any impact switched to handicap company and looks up against it on chasing debut after 7 months off. Disappointed in handicap hurdles in February/March; makes chasing debut after break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An impressive winner at Exeter last time out when seeing off the reopposing Sherborne (second) by nine lengths, STROLL ON BY may only improve for going back up in trip and he should be able to manage a 9lb rise. Not beaten far on his latest start over hurdles here in May, Invincible Nao is of interest on his chasing debut, while similar comments apply to Touchy Feely and Richhill for strong connections.
STROLL ON BY surpassed his hurdling exploits on just his second start in this sphere when scoring at Exeter recently and with even more to offer Charlie Longsdon's 6-y-o is fancied to follow up at the expense of Richhill, who ticks plenty of boxes making his chase/handicap debut for a top yard. Earth King, Touchy Feely and Invincible Nao are just a handful of others worthy of respect sent over the larger obstacles for the first time, too.
Among the group of chasing debutants with significant potential is EARTH KING, who ran a big race in defeat on his handicap debut.

El Rio |
(1) (9/4 +0%)9/4(+0%) | (1) El Rio 9/4, Winning Irish pointer and shaped well on his yard/hurdling debut in Chepstow maiden (19.4f) in February, in front and looking the winner when falling last. Gained compensation when making all at Ascot next time and he's expected to be bang there with progress to come. Made all to win by 11l at Ascot in April; big player if handling today's faster ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
East India Express |
(9) (10/11 +55%)10/11(+55%) | (9) East India Express 10/11, Brother to fairly useful hurdle/chase winner Surrey Quest and looked a good prospect when easily winning bumper at this course on debut in February. One to note as he goes over hurdles for his leading yard. Clearcut winner of course bumper on debut in February; looks a very good prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Monks Meadow |
(3) (13/2 +7%)13/2(+7%) | (3) Monks Meadow 13/2, Runner-up on his completed start in Irish points and some encouragement when second in C&D novice on his hurdling debut 22 days ago. Entitled to progress with that first experience under Rules behind him. Shaped with considerable promise when second over C&D on last month's rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Much Too Dear |
(4) (14/1 -133%)14/1(-133%) | (4) Much Too Dear 14/1, Has run to a fair level over hurdles so far, producing his best effort when runner-up in maiden at this C&D in May. After 6 months off, brought down at the first here 22 days ago, so he's worth another chance to build on his previous promise. 0-5 over hurdles but has each-way claims if judged on C&D second in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Menaggio |
(11) (16/1 -33%)16/1(-33%) | (11) Menaggio 16/1, Showed ability amidst greenness when sixth of 19 in Goffs UK Spring Sales Bumper at Newbury on debut in March. Could take a step forward from that effort as he goes up in trip over hurdles. Shaped with promise in valuable Newbury bumper in March; makes rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Defi Nonantais |
(8) (18/1 -50%)18/1(-50%) | (8) Defi Nonantais 18/1, £20,000 3-y-o, Walzertakt gelding. Dam unraced. Finished third on his sole outing in Irish points in April. Has a fairly useful level to aim at on his hurdles debut. Third in slow-ground Irish point in April; market may guide on today's rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ghost Hunter |
(10) (25/1 -108%)25/1(-108%) | (10) Ghost Hunter 25/1, €35,000 3-y-o, £80,000 4-y-o, Milan gelding. Brother to 2 winners, including fairly useful chaser Jimmil, and closely related to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Wolf Shield. Runner-up on his only start in Irish points in April. Bought for £80,000 soon after clear second on Irish point debut in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Billy Boi Blue |
(2) (50/1 -25%)50/1(-25%) | (2) Billy Boi Blue 50/1, Fairly useful bumper winner for Fergal O'Brien last season but, after 9 months off, shaped as if in need of the experience when well-beaten fourth of 7 on stable/hurdling debut at Huntingdon 2 week ago. May be one for further down the line. Won a bumper on Boxing Day but made underwhelming hurdle debut last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thunder N Lightnin |
(7) (80/1 -700%)80/1(-700%) | (7) Thunder N Lightnin 80/1, £21,000 3-y-o, £28,000 4-y-o, Alkaadhem gelding. Half-brother to 2 point winners. Dam ran twice over hurdles. Placed on both of his starts in points, runner-up on the latest occasion in April last year. Interesting on his first start under Rules (wears tongue strap). Placed in two maiden points; with good yard for rules career but faces tough task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Annie Wicks |
(12) (200/1 -33%)200/1(-33%) | (12) Annie Wicks 200/1, Modest form in bumpers and failed to beat a rival on her only completed start over hurdles last season, though faced a stiff task when pulled up in listed event at Taunton in December. Still looks to be up against it. Achieved little when last of three on hurdling debut; pulled up twice since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mikhaila |
(13) (200/1 -900%)200/1(-900%) | (13) Mikhaila 200/1, Made little impact on debut when well-beaten last of 6 in bumper at Plumpton in May. Major improvement required as she makes her first start over hurdles after 6 months off (has had a wind op). Out of a well-connected mare but well beaten in Plumpton bumper on debut in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Scoresby |
(6) (200/1 +0%)200/1(+0%) | (6) Scoresby 200/1, Point winner (dead-heated) in March, but well held in a couple of bumpers (for Christian Williams) last year and he showed little when pulled up in maiden at Exeter on his hurdles bow last month. Easy enough to look elsewhere. Dead-heated in a point in March but pulled up on recent hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Rock Of The Nation |
(5) (200/1 -203%)200/1(-203%) | (5) Rock Of The Nation 200/1, Bred to be useful but, having had a wind op and fitted with a tongue strap, offered little when seventh of 9 in novice hurdle at Hereford (16.2f) on debut 20 days ago. Needs to leave his first effort well behind as he goes up in trip. From very good jumping family but well beaten in recent Hereford bumper. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An unlucky loser on his hurdles debut at Chepstow when falling at the last when in front, EL RIO made up for that with a dominant display at Ascot in April. He could be one to be excited about for the Kim Bailey yard and he is narrowly preferred to East India Express, who could not have won any easier here on his Rules debut in February. Both with C&D experience, Monks Meadow and Much Too Dear are capable of being in the shake-up also.
EL RIO built on the promise of his hurdling debut when making all at Ascot in April, possibly helped by the switch to a right-handed track, and he can score again with the step up in trip to suit. East India Express looked a useful prospect when winning his only start in bumpers and is respected, with Much Too Dear completing the shortlist.
After easily making all to beat a good yardstick at Ascot in April, EL RIO sets a useful hurdling standard.

Deyrann De Carjac |
(4) (5/2 +0%)5/2(+0%) | (4) Deyrann De Carjac 5/2, Smart type at best but is winless since 2019 and failed to justify strong support when fifth of 6 in handicap chase at Wetherby (19.4f, good) 26 days ago. Interesting to see whether market speaks favourably again with cheekpieces back on. Has often performed well in major races in recent seasons; on very good mark now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Le Ligerien |
(2) (6/1 -33%)6/1(-33%) | (2) Le Ligerien 6/1, Rejuvenated after joining this yard from Philip Hobbs last season, completing hat-trick between February & March. Ran no sort of race back hurdling at Chepstow last time but he may be sharper now. Enjoyed revival for new yard towards end of last season; pulled up over hurdles last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hatcher |
(3) (7/2 +0%)7/2(+0%) | (3) Hatcher 7/2, One-time smart chaser gave positive signs on a couple of occasions during is the summer. Potentially well handicapped on pick of even recent form and rates as an interesting runner dropped into veteran company for the first time Not as good as he was but this prolific winner is well treated on form as recent as June. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Danny Kirwan |
(1) (11/8 +54%)11/8(+54%) | (1) Danny Kirwan 11/8, Runner-up both completed starts last season but folded tamely on his return from summer break when fifth of 9 in handicap chase at Chepstow (23.6f, good to soft, 7/1) 31 days ago. Not the most resolute but he won't be inconvenienced by this drop in trip. Finished tired last month, after a break, but the forecast good ground here will suit. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
DANNY KIRWAN appeared to be showing some of his old verve before weakening in the latter stages to finish fifth at Chepstow last month. Paul Nicholls' charge is entitled to improve for that comeback run and he makes plenty of appeal racing off top-weight in this contest. A spin over hurdles at that same meeting should have put Le Ligerien spot on for this switch to chasing and the fellow veteran isn't taken lightly, with Hatcher making most appeal of the remainder.
Not a particularly deep veterans' event. HATCHER is down a very workable mark and makes most appeal on the strength of his efforts in the summer. Le Ligerien is another player back over fences, whilst Danny Kirwan is also capable of getting involved on the pick of last season's form.
Alan King's DEYRANN DE CARJAC is used to contesting much stronger races than this and might end a long losing spell.

Dargiannini |
(4) (2/1 +69%)2/1(+69%) | (4) Dargiannini 2/1, Fell on chase/yard debut in December but better than ever when winning handicap hurdles around 2½m at Uttoxeter (soft) and Newbury (good to firm) on next 2 starts. Found out in big-field handicaps at Aintree and Haydock in the spring but reappears with his stable among the winners. Not seen since two below-par runs in the spring but began year in excellent form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Irish Hill |
(6) (5/2 +9%)5/2(+9%) | (6) Irish Hill 5/2, Progressive when completing a handicap hurdle hat-trick last winter. Higher marks found him out at the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals in the spring but no surprise were he to resume his progression now reappearing after wind surgery. Not seen since tailed off at Aintree in April but generally did well last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Soaring Glory |
(2) (7/1 -27%)7/1(-27%) | (2) Soaring Glory 7/1, Smart hurdler who won the Betfair Hurdle in 2021. Not at his best last season but he did take a step back in the right direction when third at Aintree in May and is well treated if staging a full-scale revival. Didn't fire during light campaign last season but ran quite well at Aintree in May. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cobblers Dream |
(3) (9/2 +25%)9/2(+25%) | (3) Cobblers Dream 9/2, Enjoyed an excellent 2021/22 campaign, winning the Lanzarote over C&D and second in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival. Runner-up twice over fences at the end of 2022 but not seen since pulling up in last season's Lanzarote. Regular hood missing. Won 2022 Lanzarote over C&D; off since pulled up in 2023 edition of that race in January. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Langer Dan |
(1) (10/1 -150%)10/1(-150%) | (1) Langer Dan 10/1, Landed the third big handicap win of his career when seeing off 25 rivals in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham in March. A 6 lb rise for that is fair enough but his best performances in recent years have been saved for the spring. Has saved his wins for major handicaps in recent seasons; on career-high mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Copper Coin |
(7) (11/1 -175%)11/1(-175%) | (7) Copper Coin 11/1, Returned from a break to finish a good second over C&D in April. Not at the same form at Uttoxeter 4 weeks later but given another break since and fresh could be the time to catch him. Below form when last seen in May but went close over C&D in April; enters calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kitty's Light |
(5) (16/1 +0%)16/1(+0%) | (5) Kitty's Light 16/1, Most likeable staying chaser who signed off last season by landing an exceptional hat-trick, winning the Eider Chase, Scottish National and bet365 Gold Cup. Beaten 16 lengths into fourth back hurdling on his Aintree reappearance so needs to step up on that. Won three major staying chases last season; never-dangerous fourth over hurdles last month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Coral Cup winner Langer Dan arrives here off a career-high mark and the seven-year-old may be worth taking on judged on the performance of previous seasonal debuts. IRISH HILL was a progressive type during his last campaign but for losing his form in the spring. The son of Kingston Hill is only 3lb above his last winning mark and a subsequent wind procedure may be enough to see him back in the winner's enclosure. Dargiannini may have been freshened up by a break and is a viable alternative too.
A useful handicap. If IRISH HILL has derived any benefit from a wind operation during the off-season he could be the way to go. This is a bit easier than the handicaps Dargiannini was contesting in the spring and Harry Derham has his team in form so he's second choice ahead of Copper Coin, who often goes well fresh.
Michael Scudamore's COPPER COIN (nap) ran a big race in defeat over C&D in April and his good record when fresh earns him the vote.

Petticoat Lucy |
(5) (4/1 -78%)4/1(-78%) | (5) Petticoat Lucy 4/1, Fair hurdler who showed improved form under a change of tactics to make a winning start over fences at Newton Abbot in May. Made it 2-2 in this sphere with another good round of jumping on return at Exeter (19.2f, soft) and 6 lb rise fair enough. Big player with further progress likely. Won cosily at Exeter last month and is now 2-2 over fences; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mulberry Hill |
(4) (6/1 +25%)6/1(+25%) | (4) Mulberry Hill 6/1, Fair handicap hurdler who was in the process of running well when departing on chasing debut at Ludlow in May. Encouraging third back over fences following a break at Carlisle (2½m, soft) and drying ground here will be a plus. Not discounted. Came from a long way off the pace for creditable third of 15 at Carlisle last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Love Actually |
(7) (7/1 +72%)7/1(+72%) | (7) Love Actually 7/1, Winning pointer who took well to fences with wins at Taunton and this course last winter. However, she ended last season with 2 poor efforts and will probably need this reappearance run, as was the case last season. Won first two chases last winter; struggled on slow ground afterwards; back from a break. |

(1) (7/2 -17%)7/2(-17%) | (1) La Renommee 7/2, Took well to fences last season, back-to-back winner at Ludlow prior to finishing a creditable third in a Grade 2 Cheltenham handicap. Bolted up on recent reappearance back at Ludlow (2½m, soft) and while more will be needed up 9 lb here, she has to enter calculations. Won in good style at favourite track Ludlow month; 9lb rise asks a lot of her. |

Pass The Love On |
(8) (10/1 +0%)10/1(+0%) | (8) Pass The Love On 10/1, Runner-up on second outing in bumpers and promise on each of her 4 starts over hurdles earlier this year, solid third of 9 on handicap debut at Huntingdon (19.6f, good to firm) when last seen in May. Improvement needed now tackling fences, but she's lightly-raced and in good hands. Placed on handicap hurdle debut in May; moves up from Class 5 for this chasing debut. |

Notnowlinda |
(6) (10/3 +17%)10/3(+17%) | (6) Notnowlinda 10/3, Dual 2m hurdles winner last season and this former point winner has found just one too good both starts since switched to fences, latterly chasing home a potentially useful recruit in Arclight over 2¼m here (good). Remains on a competitive mark and she's a key player. Second in both chases this season, latterly here, and likely to be in the mix again. |

Voice Of Calm |
(2) (12/1 -60%)12/1(-60%) | (2) Voice Of Calm 12/1, Triple hurdle winner who also scored over fences at Leicester (match race) in February. Well adrift of La Renommee following a wind op at Cheltenham next time, but should come on for reappearance spin over hurdles at Ludlow and each-way chance if on-song here. Mixed record over fences last season; finished tired over hurdles last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lilith |
(3) (16/1 -60%)16/1(-60%) | (3) Lilith 16/1, Put in a good round of jumping when proving 2¼ lengths too strong for La Renommee at Carlisle (21f, good to soft) in February. However, not in the same form next 2 starts and a winning reappearance would seem unlikely given her record when fresh. Has undergone another wind op. Triple chase winner; placed at Punchestown festival in April; might need this run. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
LA RENOMMEE appeared revitalised by a good summer on her back when winning with ease at Ludlow last month. The handicapper has reacted with a 9lb rise in the ratings for the five-year-old, but the daughter of Doctor Dino looks capable of more and gets the vote. The hat-trick seeking Petticoat Lucy is sure to prove popular and she must enter calculations, while Notnowlinda is relatively unexposed in this sphere and completes the shortlist.
There may well be more to come from PETTICOAT LUCY, who is unbeaten in two starts in this sphere and a 6 lb rise for her smooth reappearance success at Exeter almost certainly underestimates her. Notnowlinda was ultimately flattered by her proximity to the winner here last month, but the rival she chased home that day looks pretty useful. Dan Skelton's charge rates the main danger ahead of La Renommee, who looks set for another productive campaign judged on her recent performance at Ludlow.
After making up a lot of ground from the rear to finish third in a big field last month, MULBERRY HILL might be the answer.

Bucephalus |
(5) (5/1 +0%)5/1(+0%) | (5) Bucephalus 5/1, Fairly useful 1m Flat winner for Chris Wall and made an encouraging start over hurdles when in the frame three times for Laura Young. In the mix for his new yard. Won on the Flat on stable debut in April and could have untapped potential over hurdles. |

Tapley |
(2) (5/1 +44%)5/1(+44%) | (2) Tapley 5/1, Failed to build on reappearance third when only seventh of 9 in handicap hurdle at Plumpton (15.9f, good to soft) 21 days ago. Needs to get back on track. Yet to hit top gear this season but has claims if judged on Sandown sixth in April. |

Jack The Savage |
(6) (9/2 +25%)9/2(+25%) | (6) Jack The Savage 9/2, Had wind op and hood on for 1st time in this code when landing 2m handicap hurdle at Huntingdon 14 days ago. Up 3 lb but he's not taken lightly with headgear retained. Off the mark at Huntingdon last month; only 3lb higher here and still has low mileage. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sanitiser |
(10) (11/1 -83%)11/1(-83%) | (10) Sanitiser 11/1, Useful handicapper on Flat for Paul & Oliver Cole. Below that level in juvenile hurdles so needs to take a step forward. Struggled in good-quality Flat handicap on stable debut but could be on good hurdle mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Night Bear |
(11) (12/1 +40%)12/1(+40%) | (11) Night Bear 12/1, Fair winner on the Flat but he will need to leave previous hurdles form behind if he's to get off the mark in this sphere. Ran well on recent handicap debut at Hereford and may still have a bigger effort in him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Angel's Dream |
(7) (13/2 -63%)13/2(-63%) | (7) Angel's Dream 13/2, Debut 13f Flat winner in France. Took a big step forward for current yard when cosily landing 2m novice hurdle at Plumpton in May. Has more to offer so he's a player on his handicap debut/return. Just did enough to win Plumpton maiden in May; should have more to offer in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Polyphonic |
(3) (13/2 +28%)13/2(+28%) | (3) Polyphonic 13/2, Fairly useful 11f winner on Flat for Karl Burke who got off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt in a Fontwell juvenile in December. Has proved consistent since, good third at Southwell for his new yard last time. Shortlisted. Very encouraging third on last month's stable debut and 3lb lower here; high on the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
John Betjeman |
(1) (14/1 -56%)14/1(-56%) | (1) John Betjeman 14/1, In good form until only fifth of 9 in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, soft) 25 days ago. Sort to get back on track. Not at best last month but generally consistent over hurdles and on the Flat this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ace Rothstein |
(4) (17/2 -70%)17/2(-70%) | (4) Ace Rothstein 17/2, Fairly useful performer on Flat (stays 11.5f) so he's not discounted on his yard debut in this sphere now making his handicap debut. Close second in Huntingdon novice hurdle in March but subsequent Flat form is rather mixed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Alioski |
(9) (20/1 -25%)20/1(-25%) | (9) Alioski 20/1, Fair 2m winner over hurdles but below par on Flat last time. No surprise to see him bounce back. Second off today's mark in the summer but comes here after two poor runs (hurdle/Flat). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Flamenco De Kerser |
(12) (20/1 +60%)20/1(+60%) | (12) Flamenco De Kerser 20/1, Successful once from 5 starts between the flags but he's winless under Rules and looks set for another struggle. Had very poor campaign last season but recent reappearance run not devoid of promise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mammies Boy |
(8) (28/1 -75%)28/1(-75%) | (8) Mammies Boy 28/1, Promise in maiden/novice hurdles to start 2023 but pulled up in handicap at Chepstow (19.4f, soft) 13 days ago. Something to prove now. Placed in two of his qualifying races but was pulled up on recent seasonal/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
African Sun |
(13) (66/1 -32%)66/1(-32%) | (13) African Sun 66/1, Unreliable type who beat only one in handicap hurdle at Worcester (16f, soft) 62 days ago. Easy to look elsewhere. This year's form off lowly marks is very uninspiring and he's 16lb wrong here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ANGEL'S DREAM gamely won a maiden hurdle at Plumpton in May and an opening mark of 100 looks workable for Gary Moore's gelding. His stablemate Sanitiser has yet to convince with his stamina in this sphere, but it's too soon to be writing the four-year-old off given his ability on the level. Bucephalus has been in decent form on the Flat since last seen over timber and the son of Solider Hollow is also of interest.
ANGEL'S DREAM appeals as the sort his yard does well with so he's taken to return in style on his handicap debut after a stylish success at Plumpton in May. Handily-weighted Bucephalus is next on the list starting out for Neil Mulholland, although both Jack The Savage and Ace Rothstein need factoring into this open handicap too.
The pick is BUCEPHALUS, who has not raced over hurdles since 2022 but has shown fairly useful Flat form for his new stable this year.
Ths is the racecard key.
