12:18 Kelso Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

An extended 2m might not have been the ideal trip for ACE OF SPADES, but he got the job done at Cheltenham last month and is expected to find further progress up in distance. Small Town Kid made the perfect start to his hurdling career when on target at Newcastle recently. He looks to be the main threat, although Sea God, who didn't fire at Carlisle last time having gone well here in May, would not be out of this either.

ACE OF SPADES did well to come out on top at Cheltenham considering the drop in trip hardly looked ideal, so he's a straightforward choice to defy a penalty now upped to a more suitable distance. Small Town Kid and Far From Over can battle it out for minor honours.

Small Town Kid is respected but Cheltenham winner ACE OF SPADES, who also moves up in trip here, looks the one to beat.

Switches to hurdles today and should be competitive with tongue-tie retained.

12:53 Kelso Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 23f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

A few of these will fancy their chances including Young Jack, who had GAILLIMH A STOR (third) in behind when on target over C&D three weeks ago. The latter was returning from a lengthy absence, though, and, if coming on for that performance, he could reverse the form on revised terms. Ballytechno struggled in a Grade 2 at Sandown recently but he is of interest back in a handicap, as is Nab Wood, who looks to complete a C&D hat-trick having notched up a brace of successes at the start of the year.

NAB WOOD created a favourable impression when scoring twice over C&D earlier in the year, and although he'd ideally benefit from more juice in the ground, he is still the one who appeals most for a yard whose horses are in flying form. There are plenty of others with chances, including fellow C&D winner Young Jack, who could be dangerous if getting his own way in front, and Guernsey who ran his best race in a while when third 18 days ago. Ballytechno gets an honourable mention now upped in trip.

Nab Wood is feared but DUNNET HEAD (nap) has races in him off this mark and he's back over hurdles after failing to fire in a chase.

13:28 Kelso Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Jehol De Thaix was narrowly denied in a bumper at Uttoxeter in July and looks to hold solid claims now sent over hurdles, but this could go the way of talented Flat performer CHICHESTER. Lucinda Russell's charge achieved a peak rating of 110 when trained on the level and if transferring that ability to this new discipline, he will be tough to beat. Market support for Captain Butler would be noteworthy.

BALLYVANGO shaped well in a pretty warm maiden at Chepstow in the autumn and fancied to build on that, so he looks the way to go. Chichester is a potentially classy recruit to this sphere, with Jehol de Thaix also of interest given his previous encouraging run in a bumper.

This may go to BALLYVANGO who shaped with promise in bumpers and again on hurdling debut behind the classy The New Lion.

14:03 Kelso Handicap Chase (Class 3) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Dan Skelton has found the key to success with Beat Box and, given the eight-year-old has only lost one of his six previous starts for the yard, there are solid reasons to expect another big run. However, the gelding has gone up 31lb in the handicap as a result and looks vulnerable at this level. With that in mind, recent Wetherby winner CAITHNESS must have a big chance of turning over his likely main rival off just 6lb higher. Carcaci Castle looks the pick of the remainder.

CAITHNESS has taken to fences very well and remains one to keep on the right side of after beating a subsequent winner at Wetherby last month. Beat Box enhanced his impressive strike rate for this yard at Hereford and is the obvious threat.

Beat Box is a big danger but CAITHNESS produced a professional performance at Wetherby and he can follow up.

14:38 Kelso Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 18f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BELLBIRD has been consistent since joining Donald McCain and, although she is creeping up in the weights, a race of this nature appears well within her compass. With the step back up in trip likely to suit, the daughter of Postponed can make amends for a narrow defeat under today's rider at Windsor a fortnight ago. The class-dropping three-year-old Inspire Hope and top-weighted Komedy Kicks are suggested as the pick of the remainder, with the former feared most in receipt of 5lb from the selection.

KOMEDY KICKS is given a chance to build on a promising first run for the Dan Skelton yard at Ludlow. The in-form Bellbird and Rebecca Menzies handicap debutante Inspire Hope may provide the main opposition.

Komedy Kicks is respected but INSPIRE HOPE is interesting on her handicap debut providing a recent fall hasn't left a mark.

(8) Skyhill 10/1, Veteran who added to his tally at Catterick on New Year's Day. Has found things tougher since but is becoming well handicapped. Might need this return from 8 months off.
Ended last season in poor form and refused to line up when reappearing this month.

(3) Haute Estime 4/1, Mixed record over fences last season and yet to feature this term. Slight drop in trip is a plus and she's becoming well treated, but there's a bit to prove.
Won't fail through lack of stamina but needs to better her recent efforts.

(7) C'est Quelqu'un 33/1, Recorded back-to-back handicap chase wins for Gordon Elliott last season but form has gone the wrong way since.
Has struggled for new stable in recent weeks; needs to prove some ability remains.

(6) Hold The Note 10/1, Course winner who has a very patchy record, pulled up on 4 of last 5 starts, the latest coming at Carlisle on reappearance. Plenty to prove.
Regressive 10yo who was pulled up on four of his last five outings; too unreliable.

(2) Foxboro 18/1, Proved at least as good as ever when scoring at Exeter (30.7f, heavy) 12 months ago but laboured efforts since, leaving Robert Walford/off 9 months prior to latest outing at Plumpton. Others are more appealing.
On a good mark but was soundly beaten on recent stable debut and is hard to predict.

(5) Camp Belan 4/1, Thorough stayer who cashed in on his reduced mark at Ayr (24.1f) in February. Mostly held form since, so likely to put a rare poor effort at Wetherby behind him back up in trip.
Ran quite well on seasonal debut but well held since; seems best on soft/heavy ground.

(4) Senor Lombardy 11/4, Multiple point winner who performed with credit for new yard when second of 9 in a 24.2f Wetherby handicap chase on first run under Rules since March 2022. That form looks solid (winner has scored twice again since) and he makes plenty of appeal off the same mark here.
Bumped into a revitalised opponent when second on last month's seasonal/stable debut.

(1) Back On The Lash 7/2, Dual Cross-Country winner at Cheltenham who got back on track when third of 9 there (29f) last month. Strong claims if he can back that up.
Commendable third in cross-country race last month and effectively 18lb lower here.

15:13 Kelso Handicap Chase (Class 4) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Nicky Richards' horses have been in fine form and SENOR LOMBARDY can be the latest stable representative to make a big impact. The veteran proved he is no back number with a respectable second to an in-form rival at Wetherby on his debut for the Cumbria-based trainer last month. He can go one better off an unchanged mark. With several others struggling to find their form, C&D winner Camp Belan could emerge as the chief threat, although Skyhill is not ruled out from the foot of the handicap.

SENOR LOMBARDY hasn't won under Rules for a long time but he made a positive debut for this stable at Wetherby last time and, if in the same form, he could take the beating. Back On The Lash returns to handicap company with a live chance and Camp Belan shouldn't be ruled out.

The pick is SENOR LOMBARDY, who made a very encouraging stable debut last month and remains very well handicapped on older form.
