1st (4) (3/1 +79%) Lunar Chief |
3/1(+79%) | (4) Lunar Chief 3/1, Won his sole outing in bumpers but ran below that level both starts over hurdles last season and will probably be of more interest in handicaps after this run. Steps up in trip and retains potential for a yard that won this last year with a smart one. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (4/5 +76%) Tommys Law |
4/5(+76%) | (7) Tommys Law 4/5, Placed in points and has shown fair form over hurdles, extending his sequence of runner-up finishes at this course (16.2f) 2 weeks ago. Step back up in trip will suit and should give his running once again. Keeps finishing second but has the scope to progress; this longer trip can help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (3/1 -33%) Bel Amigo |
3/1(-33%) | (1) Bel Amigo 3/1, Fairly useful maiden hurdler in France and similar form over fences, winning claimer at Compiegne when last seen in March. Changed hands for €24,600 after and sets a clear standard on UK/stable debut. French form was in the mud but ability much respected in a race of this nature. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (125/1 -25%) One Cool Citizen |
125/1(-25%) | (5) One Cool Citizen 125/1, Unpromising in points this year and finished well held in a pair of maiden hurdles (for Eugene M. O'Sullivan) in 2023. Only 1-9 in Irish points and was tailed off in two maiden hurdles there; unlikely winner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (28/1 +15%) Canunclecani |
28/1(+15%) | (2) Canunclecani 28/1, €32,000 3-y-o, Lauro gelding. Half-brother to 2 winners on Flat, including 6f/7f winner Miss Sayif. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (winner around 2m) Chat Room. Made frame all 3 starts in Irish points, third last time (May 11). Runner-up in his first Irish point but was tailed off in the next two. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A comfortable winner of his last two starts in bumpers here, DEDICATED HERO looks just the type who could excel over hurdles this season and, as a former point-to-pointer, stepping up in trip should not inconvenience him. Runner-up on each of his last four starts, including over 2m here a couple of weeks ago, Tommys Law brings plenty of experience to the table, while French recruit Bel Amigo should be monitored for market support ahead of his debut for Nick Alexander.
BEL AMIGO sets a clear standard setting out for a new yard based on his French form, so has to be considered the one to beat on his UK debut. Dedicated Hero is an interesting rival given he's a dual bumper winner at this track and rates the main threat ahead of Tommys Law.
Sandy Thomson's DEDICATED HERO has looked a nice prospect in winning two bumpers here.

1st (3) (9/4 +10%) Gold Des Bois |
9/4(+10%) | (3) Gold Des Bois 9/4, Hasn't got his head in front since back-to-back wins here in 2022 but the handicapper has relented and he returned to form when second of 6 in C&D handicap (good to soft) on yard debut 14 days ago. Likely contender. Positive start for Sandy Thomson when second over C&D 14 days ago; can go one better now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (9/4 +36%) Fia Fuinidh |
9/4(+36%) | (5) Fia Fuinidh 9/4, Hurdles winner who made a bright start over fences during the winter and posted an encouraging return to the track when second of 7 in Carlisle handicap chase (15.9f, good to soft) last month. Can race off same mark and is not taken lightly. Good reappearance second at Carlisle 23 days ago; unlikely to be far away if in same form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (12/1 -243%) Bollingerandkrug |
12/1(-243%) | (2) Bollingerandkrug 12/1, Showed improved form switched to front-running tactics last season, landing a hat-trick over C&D between May and November. Below form since but has dropped to a tempting mark and could be dangerous if able to dominate here. Won this off 7lb higher in 2023 but struggled since, including behind Gold Des Bois latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (16/5 +20%) Chase A Fortune |
16/5(+20%) | (4) Chase A Fortune 16/5, Made a winning chase debut following a wind op at Catterick (15.7f, soft) in February and back to that sort of form when creditable second of 5 in handicap chase at Sedgefield (17f, good to soft, 5/2) 39 days ago. Enters calculations. Both wins at Catterick; creditable second of five at Sedgefield last month; thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (6/1 +70%) Take Centre Stage |
6/1(+70%) | (6) Take Centre Stage 6/1, Far from straighforward but showed improved form, with the aid of a visor, to win at Newcastle (16.3f) in February. However, ran poorly when last seen at Hexham in May and others are more convincing. Reacted well to a visor with a win and second in February but below form twice since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (28/1 -409%) Trac |
28/1(-409%) | (1) Trac 28/1, Seven-time winner under Rules who ended last term in fine heart, landing handicaps at Newcastle (16.3f) and Carlisle (15.9f). Returns on a career-high mark but is entitled to plenty of respect. On a hat-trick after two wins in the spring but no great record fresh. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CHASE A FORTUNE may have ground to make up on Trac from two runs in the spring, but he remains unexposed in this sphere and his return at Sedgefield last month was very encouraging. The six-year-old remains on a workable mark and he is preferred to Carlisle second Fia Fuinidh, as well as dual C&D winner Gold Des Bois, who was runner-up over track and trip last time out. Bollingerandkrug is 7lb lower than when landing this contest last year so must not be ruled out either.
GOLD DES BOIS did enough on his first start for Sandy Thomson here a fortnight ago to suggest a race of this nature is well within his compass. Fia Fuinidh ran well on his reappearance at Carlisle last month and is feared most.
A two-year losing run hardly makes GOLD DES BOIS bet compelling but a recent C&D second suggests he may be ready to strike again.

1st (8) (11/4 +69%) Forged Well |
11/4(+69%) | (8) Forged Well 11/4, Point recruit who tasted success on hurdles debut at Carlisle (19.3f) last December. Similar form in defeat since, off 6 months prior to a good third of 11 in handicap back at that venue (17f) 16 days ago. Return to this 2½m trip could well bring about further progress this campaign. Placed at Carlisle on his return and he still has potential; dangerous back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (6/1 +8%) Harper Valley |
6/1(+8%) | (6) Harper Valley 6/1, Scored three times last season at around 20f and returned from 6 months off with a creditable third of 5 in handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (19.8f) 3 weeks ago. Needs to pull out a little more to defy this mark but that isn't out of the question with a visor now enlisted. His progress has stalled and he needs to find more in new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (7/4 +42%) Luckie Seven |
7/4(+42%) | (4) Luckie Seven 7/4, Progressive bumper winner who belied a 15-month lay-off to make a successful debut over hurdles at Perth (20.2f) in July. Followed up despite still showing signs of inexperience back there (16.2f) in September and has scope for plenty more improvement now handicapping. 2-2 over hurdles and he's open to more progress on handicap debut; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (50/1 -150%) Clear White Light |
50/1(-150%) | (1) Clear White Light 50/1, Multiple winner over hurdles/on Flat for Adrian Keatley but out of sorts in latter sphere upon joining present stable, well-beaten in handicap at Newcastle (16.2f) in September. Return to hurdling on back of a wind op needs to spark a revival. Out of sorts on the Flat in last three runs and needs a major revival back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (14/1 -250%) The Navigator |
14/1(-250%) | (9) The Navigator 14/1, Hit a real purple patch of late, displaying plenty of resolve when following up his C&D success at Sedgefield (19.8f) 20 days ago. Should go well again with his rider's claim more than off-setting his latest rise in weights. Resurgent 9yo who has won over C&D and at Sedgefield last twice; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (33/1 +18%) Velasco |
33/1(+18%) | (3) Velasco 33/1, Thrived towards the end of last season, winning three times at up to 3m. Shaped as if needing the run after 6 months off when fourth at Hexham (23.3 in October, prior to slipping up a circuit out at Newcastle (23.7f) 9 days ago. Present mark demands that little bit more. Four hurdle wins but he probably needs more progress in this sphere to defy this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (16/1 +11%) Romeo Brown |
16/1(+11%) | (5) Romeo Brown 16/1, C&D winner who last scored at Aintree in December 2022 but did shape as if better for the run after 7 months off when seventh of 11 in handicap at Carlisle (17.2f) 16 days ago. Return to further in his favour and likely to be much closer to form here. On reduced mark but last win was almost two years ago and others are more convincing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (4/1 +43%) Bois Guillbert |
4/1(+43%) | (2) Bois Guillbert 4/1, 3-time winner over hurdles who ended last season with a respectable third at Ayr (2m) in March and saw out the longer trip after 7 months off when third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Perth (20.2f, soft) 45 days ago. 3-9 over hurdles and was good third when upped to 2m4f at Perth in September; respected. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
The progressive LUCKIE SEVEN has now won both of his starts over hurdles, having defied a penalty when successful in novice company at Perth in September. The six-year-old will likely have more to offer on his handicap debut and Nicky Richards' inmate is taken to continue winning ways. The Navigator also bids for a hat-trick with solid claims and had the measure of Harper Valley (third) at Sedgefield last month. Bois Guillbert merits consideration too.
Progressive in bumpers, LUCKIE SEVEN made it 2-2 over hurdles despite still showing signs of inexperience in a Perth novice in September. Very much the type to progress further now handicapping, he looks up to playing a lead role from his opening mark. The Navigator has thrived of late and should be in the mix again. Forged Well, back at 2½m, and low-mileage I Am Max complete the shortlist.
The vote goes to the lightly raced LUCKIE SEVEN (nap), who is unbeaten in two hurdles and makes appeal on his handicap debut.

1st (9) (7/2 +53%) Breakdance Kid |
7/2(+53%) | (9) Breakdance Kid 7/2, Ran away with a Hexham handicap in June and put in a good shift when finding just one too good at Sedgefield (26.3f, good to soft) last month. While this drop back in trip may not be ideal, he is one for the shortlist all the same. Arrives in top form; edged out final strides last time; should be thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (25/1 -56%) Charlie Uberalles |
25/1(-56%) | (2) Charlie Uberalles 25/1, Fairly useful chaser who was as good as ever when scoring at Cartmel in June. It's been a struggle in 3 subsequent starts, though, and he needs to get back on track now tried in cheekpieces. Seems to be struggling for form, well-held fourth at Cartmel last month; headgear on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/1 -38%) Half Shot |
9/1(-38%) | (3) Half Shot 9/1, Perked up by application of blinkers as he capitalised on reduced mark in 10-runner C&D handicap chase in September, rallying to edge back ahead final 50 yds. Collared close home in his follow-up bid at Wetherby and this 10-y-o is not without each-way hope. Back to form (winner and runner-up) in blinkers this autumn; in the mix again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (12/1 -50%) Ned Tanner |
12/1(-50%) | (5) Ned Tanner 12/1, Dual winner here during 2022/23 campaign and creditable placed efforts both completed starts at this venue last term. However, he was left behind by the winner when second in a 4-runner event at Carlisle on latest start in March (sincer undergone a wind op) and his record when fresh isn't the best. Runner-up to Red Happy 12 months ago; interesting contender again after wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (6/1 -33%) Five Dollar Fine |
6/1(-33%) | (4) Five Dollar Fine 6/1, Winner of 3 of his last 4 starts, including on his seasonal reappearance at Carlisle (2m, good to soft). Moving back up in trip is unlikely to be an issue and 6 lb rise fair enough, so he's one to consider. Better than ever of late, winning three of last four; tougher opposition here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (2/1 +33%) Choose A Copper |
2/1(+33%) | (1) Choose A Copper 2/1, Had a wind op before signing off for last term with a very good second in a Perth handicap hurdle in April. Improved when making a winning reappearance/chase debut at Hexham (2½m, soft) and this 4 lb higher mark should be within his reach. Made perfect start to chasing career at Hexham; young, unexposed and may follow up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (20/1 -67%) Red Happy |
20/1(-67%) | (6) Red Happy 20/1, Winner of this race on debut for George Bewley 12 months ago. Followed up at Carlisle next time and while he was a shade below par on final 2 starts of last season, this 7-y-o will have a fighting chance if he puts his best foot forward. Won this race last year; more required this time around off 9lb higher mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (10/1 +38%) Chapel Green |
10/1(+38%) | (10) Chapel Green 10/1, Got right back on track under more forceful tactics when readily making all in 7-runner C&D handicap (good to soft) in May. Likely to come on for his spin at Perth (first run for 4 months) but yard saddles a more appealing candidate in Choose A Copper. Best effort when winning comfortably over C&D; might have needed latest run; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (11) (50/1 -213%) Cracking Destiny |
50/1(-213%) | (11) Cracking Destiny 50/1, More miss than hit since latest success at Musselburgh last November but, on the upside, he's now 8 lb below that winning mark. Coudn't rule out. Fine servant over the years but seems on the downgrade; tongue-strap fitted for first time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (8/1 +60%) Ganapathi |
8/1(+60%) | (8) Ganapathi 8/1, Useful hurdle/chase winner for Willie Mullins but losing run stretches back to June 2022 and he hasn't set the world alight in 4 starts for present yard. Has a regressive profile but his mark is falling fast and he might have needed last run. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
HALF SHOT has improved for the fitting of blinkers and followed a C&D victory with a fine second at Wetherby. This looks less competitive and he can resume winning ways, with his rider's 5lb allowance helping his cause. Choose A Copper made a successful debut over the larger obstacles at Hexham on his reappearance and there should be more to come from him over fences, while last month's Carlisle winner Five Dollar Fine looks worth another try over this trip.
The vote goes to unexposed 6-y-o CHOOSE A COPPER, who made the perfect start to his chase career at Hexham where, save for a scare at the first fence, he put in a good round of jumping. There should be more to come from Lucinda Russell's charge in this sphere. Breakdance Kid is just about second choice ahead of Five Dollar Fine and Half Shot.
If there's a useful prospect in the field it's probably CHOOSE A COPPER and Lucinda Russell's 6yo is taken to follow up his Hexham win.

1st (7) (7/2 +7%) Starlyte |
7/2(+7%) | (7) Starlyte 7/2, Pulled up 3 times in a row but stopped the slide when finding only one too good over C&D last month, running on. Same mark so a repeat of that will see her bang there. Wouldn't be far away if repeating her 8l second over C&D a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (14/1 +0%) Santa Clarita |
14/1(+0%) | (8) Santa Clarita 14/1, Made a winning start for Dan Skelton at Worcester in September. Up in the weights and left that yard after 2 more runs but made a reasonable fist of things for new connections when fifth at Ayr. September winner for Dan Skelton and debut for this yard was fairly positive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (3/1 +33%) Maillot Blanc |
3/1(+33%) | (2) Maillot Blanc 3/1, Looked rusty after 11 months off on his first run since leaving Sophie Leech when fifth of 8 in handicap at Carlisle in March. Off further 7 months and never really looked like justifying market support back at that venue a fortnight ago. Tongue tie on and not without hope. Fair mark on form for previous yard; okay run last time on second start after a layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (14/1 +30%) Looking Splendid |
14/1(+30%) | (5) Looking Splendid 14/1, Little in the way of solid form so far, brushed aside on handicap debut over C&D a month ago. Has looked modest and failed to raise his profile on handicap debut here last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (8/1 -14%) Lucky Soldier |
8/1(-14%) | (4) Lucky Soldier 8/1, Encouraging second in a bumper at Ayr on debut and showed more than previously over hurdles when third in a C&D maiden, finishing with running left. Failed to repeat that on handicap debut a month later and could do with brushing up his jumping. Has had a breathing operation. Bumper promise; this is only his second handicap and he's undergone wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (80/1 -60%) The Roc Hopper |
80/1(-60%) | (9) The Roc Hopper 80/1, Little in the way of worthwhile form. Modest form so far, last time pulling up on handicap debut (2m6f) when 66-1. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (9/1 -50%) Gonfalonier |
9/1(-50%) | (6) Gonfalonier 9/1, Made second start for this yard a winning one at Perth in June 2022. Third at that venue a month later but off the track since so well-being taken on trust, for all he's in very capable hands. Winning handicapped; dropped 5lb during his absence and needs a market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (28/1 +30%) Luminaries |
28/1(+30%) | (11) Luminaries 28/1, Little impact in various events over hurdles, though last month's stable debut over C&D wasn't totally devoid of promise. Tongue strap on. Ten-race maiden with no obvious form claims; tries tongue-tie on second run for this yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (66/1 0%) Le Fou's Keep |
66/1(0%) | (10) Le Fou's Keep 66/1, Poor maiden hurdler who continues to make limited appeal. Third at 300-1 in a maiden hurdle last October but has offered little since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (5/2 -11%) Marty Mcfly |
5/2(-11%) | (3) Marty Mcfly 5/2, Confirmed positive start for new yard when landing 10-runner handicap at Perth (16.2f) in June. 6 lb rise fair and isn't yet exposed so major player of seeing this new trip out on the back of a breathing operation. 2m winner at Perth in June; 6lb higher but could be progressive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (50/1 -150%) Watch Law |
50/1(-150%) | (1) Watch Law 50/1, Hit the target twice between the flags in the early part of last year and showed more than previously under Rules despite a few mistakes when fourth in a hunter at Kelso (26.2f) in May. Down in trip returned to timber. Beaten 16l and 13l in two hunter chases here on either side of his third in a point. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
STARLYTE may be winless since November 2022, but she bounced back to form to occupy the runner-up berth over C&D and is fancied to end the drought. Marty Mcfly has undergone wind surgery since scoring at Perth in June, which might bring about further improvement, while Maillot Blanc has yet to click for new connections but is a capable sort on his day. Returning from a long absence, Gonfalonier could have a say in proceedings as well.
MARTY MCLFY has to prove his stamina for this far but made a sound start for his new yard during the middle of 2024 and is taken to pick up where he left off. Starlyte must enter the reckoning on her runner-up effort over C&D recently with her mark unchanged, while the market will help assess Gonfalonier on his return from a long time off the track.
An open handicap. MAILLOT BLANC is still finding his feet after an absence and his last run was quite encouraging.

1st (4) (13/8 +51%) Humble Jumble |
13/8(+51%) | (4) Humble Jumble 13/8, £30,000 3-y-o, Jet Away gelding. Dam (b89) placed in bumpers out of hurdler/chaser (2½m-2¾m winner) Sunami Storm. Interesting newcomer. £30,000 3yo; second foal; dam twice-raced (third in a bumper); respected newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/1 -191%) Beyond The Verge |
4/1(-191%) | (1) Beyond The Verge 4/1, Has an ordinary pedigree but belied odds of 18/1 and looked potentially above average when scoring over C&D first time out. More to come and should go well again. Recent good-ground winner here who might vulnerable under a penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (7/2 +86%) Gonnino |
7/2(+86%) | (3) Gonnino 7/2, Doyen gelding. Dam (c100/h100), bumper/17f hurdle winner (stayed 2¾m), half-sister to useful hurdler (stayed 3m) Hello George. 17,500euros foal; lots of stamina in his pedigree so may need further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (16/1 -220%) Joto |
16/1(-220%) | (8) Joto 16/1, Out of a bumper winner but only sixth at Sedgefield on debut. May have learned from that, so step up isn't out of the question. Ran in snatches when well held on good to soft at Sedgefield but she did go off favourite. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (13/2 +0%) Burning It Up |
13/2(+0%) | (2) Burning It Up 13/2, €25,000 3-y-o, £35,000 4-y-o, Milan gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to bumper winner Gaillimh A Chroi out of 2½m hurdle winner (stayed 3m) Burnt Out. Third on only outing in Irish points (Apr 28). Bought for £35,000 after finishing third in an Irish point earlier this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (15/2 +25%) Smart Bucks |
15/2(+25%) | (7) Smart Bucks 15/2, Buck's Boum gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler/smart chaser (stayed 21f) Lady Buttons. Worth monitoring in the betting for all that he'll probably come into his own further down the line. Out of an unraced half-sister to high-class jumper Lady Buttons. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (66/1 -65%) King Gold Boy |
66/1(-65%) | (6) King Gold Boy 66/1, Brave Mansonnien gelding. Dam maiden hurdler. Doesn't make much appeal on paper. Dam placed over hurdles in France, out of maiden half-sister to Oh Crick. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BEYOND THE VERGE overcame inexperience to make a successful start to his career over C&D in September and although he has to carry a 7lb winner's penalty today, he shaped like he would have learned plenty from that experience and should have more to offer now. Humble Jumble cost 30,000 pounds last year and is an interesting newcomer for Lucinda Russell, while Burning It Up showed promise when third in a point-to-point and must be respected having been subsequently purchased for 35,000 pounds.
BEYOND THE VERGE, who caused an upset when successful first time out over C&D, could be above avaerage and can follow up under a penalty. Humble Jumble is another one to be interested in first-time out.
There's not much to go on but HUMBLE JUMBLE looks an interesting newcomer, with Beyond The Verge perhaps vulnerable with his penalty
Ths is the racecard key.

This is the 16:15 Kempton race from the video above backed at 28/1 earlier in the day.
Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing.
