(6) Ruler Of The River 7/1, Just a modest maiden on the Flat in Ireland for Jack Davison and bettered previous hurdling efforts when second in a juvenile at Doncaster in December. Out of her depth in listed company back there since.

(1) Glorious Lion 11/10, Fair maiden on the Flat for James Ferguson and while his hurdles debut was inauspicious (first-flight faller), he put in a clear round when fourth of 11 in a Ludlow juvenile next time. Improved again when third at Newbury and that puts him right in the mix with promise of more to come.

13:35 Kelso Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

THATS JET had produced a solid level of form in maidens prior to coming up short in a Listed event at Musselburgh last month. Daragh Bourke's charge sets the standard down in class, and he is fancied to open his account over timber. Ironopolis reached the frame at Sedgefield when last seen in October and he ought to have a say on that evidence, while Glorious Lion appeals most of the remainder.

GLORIOUS LION is going the right way over hurdles and a repeat of his performance when third at Newbury last week may well suffice in this slightly easier contest. Ironopolis represents a yard in excellent form and he looks the main danger.

This looks a good opportunity for the progressive GLORIOUS LION to get off the mark on the back of his very good recent Newbury third

14:10 Kelso Handicap Chase (Class 3) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

With Backbyjet and Zihuatanejo having to compete from out of the handicap, this would appear to revolve around Nells Son and GO BOY. The former finished a creditable second in a class 2 over an extended 2m5f here last month and must be respected eased 1lb in the ratings, and in class. However, Sandy Thomson's eight-year-old cruised to victory at Carlisle on his stable debut and a subsequent 6lb rise might not be enough to halt further progress.

GO BOY looks a useful prospect based on his smooth chasing debut success at Carlisle and he should prove capable of defying a 6 lb higher mark to account for the consistent Nells Son. The other pair are both racing from out of the weights, chasing-debutant Backbyjet the pick for third.

Sandy Thomson's new recruit GO BOY created a very good impression when going in at Carlisle and he can make light of a 6lb weights rise

14:45 Kelso Handicap Chase (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Limerick Leader posted his best effort in a while when occupying the runner-up spot at Musselburgh three weeks ago and he must enter calculations from 1lb higher, but a chance can be taken on CHAPEL GREEN. Lucinda Russell's gelding was on target off this mark at Hexham back in October, and the addition of first-time cheekpieces could spark a return to that sort of form. Duty Calls can chase the pair home.

LIMERICK LEADER stopped the slide off a much-reduced mark when second at Musselburgh 3 weeks ago and he's potentially well treated if building on that. Duty Calls and Going Mobile are both racing off their proper marks this time so are expected to bounce back.

Sandy Forster's DUTY CALLS looks the way to go given he can boast a C&D win and race off a 5lb lower mark than when fourth here recently

15:20 Kelso Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 26f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

NED TANNER was in the process of running a fine race when coming down two out in a warm handicap over fences here, and the decision to revert to hurdles may prove fruitful. Tiger Jet shaped encouragingly when fifth in a competitive Cheltenham handicap in December and he can make his presence felt provided he is fully tuned up after a break. The relatively lightly-raced Imperial Merlin also warrants respect on his return to timber.

A case can be made for lots of these but IMPERIAL MERLIN gets the vote given he had every chance when a late faller over fences here last time out and returns to this sphere on a handy-looking mark. Brian Hughes is also back in the saddle too. Cadell is feared most with the promise of better to come on his handicap debut, although in-form trio Velasco, Ned Tanner and Dare To Shout all command plenty of respect too.

This can go to IMPERIAL MERLIN (nap) who now reverts to this sphere on a handy-looking mark judged on his chasing exploits this term

15:55 Kelso Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

It is hard to look past MYRETOWN, who held every chance when coming down at the last in a similar event at Ayr last month and he can make amends for that mishap here. Winchmore Hill finished a neck behind Grade 2-winning novice hurdler Kamsinas in a Loughrea point-to-point in March 2022, after which he was bought by Donald McCain for 150,000 pounds, and he is a fascinating contender on his Rules debut. Kidman has shown some promise over hurdles and completes the shortlist.

MYRETOWN was on the verge of opening his account under Rules when falling late at Ayr and, if none the worse for that, he should be able to gain compensation. Winchmore Hill is an obvious threat as a six-figure recruit from points and Kidman could feature if he's ready to go after a long absence.

Lucinda Russell's winning Irish pointer MYRETOWN looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to get off the mark over hurdles here

16:30 Kelso Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 21f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

In a competitive concluding event, HARPER VALLEY can send punters home on a high. Rebecca Menzies' charge ran out a ready winner over an extended 2m3f at Catterick last month, and the suspicion is a 6lb rise may not be enough to stop him going in again. Dangers aplenty are headed by Fourofakind, who scored narrowly at Hereford, although a 5lb rise may make life tougher. Valleyview Tommy raced too keenly when fifth over 3m at Musselburgh but, provided he settles better, he cannot be dismissed.

HARPER VALLEY impressed with the way he quickly skipped clear at Catterick last time and a 6 lb rise doesn't look enough to stop him. Like the selection, Eloi du Puy has thrived this season and is second choice ahead of Dream Boy, who should be suited by this longer trip now handicapping.

Rebecca Menzies' progressive HARPER VALLEY still looks ahead of his mark despite being raised 6lb for his Catterick win so gets the vote
